Riverside Bouncers Subdue Armed Gunman, Possible Mass Shooting Attempt | Eater LA

"Two bouncers at a packed, roughly 200-person bar fought off a man who attempted to enter armed with two fully loaded Glock subcompact pistols and a four-inch knife; both bouncers were stabbed multiple times but are in stable condition. Police arrested the suspect, identified as Hugo Garciao, recovered the firearms, and booked him on attempted murder with bail set at $1 million, while the bar’s manager said the suspect appeared intent on hurting someone that night." - Farley Elliott

Google
Visited my brother from Florida and he suggested we should try this place. It was a absolute hit!! I loved it. Pumpkin Spice martini was awesome, wings were great! My wife's loaded Philly potato was great, and my brother loved his fajitas. We will visit again next time we are in town. Thank you for the great experience.

The best part about my visit to Duke's was my bartender, Riley. They were very helpful, friendly, and prompt. The beer was a close second, very cold and tasty. I ordered the Steak Frites and it looked incredible. There were several issues. The steak was very tough, which feels like an achievement given how thin the slices are. No issue with the thin slices, just bewildered how it was so tough. In addition to the toughness, the sliced steak was devoid of any seasoning and the sandwich was a little more than room temperature. Outside of the service, which was exemplary, Duke's Bar & Grille gets a very solid meh.

I adore this establishment. The food was amazing, so many options, and spectacular proportions. The waitress was amazing never left a dry cup. My only disappointment is I didn’t have room to crack into that peanut butter pie, so let me know how it tastes. I recommend to you all if you want to have the time of your life.

Went to Duke's after work on Friday to try out their happy hour! Needless to say, it rocked my world for literally $50 between my husband and I! We ordered a $9 white pizza, $7 wings, and $6 chicken tenders and fries, and left no crumbs. My husband also had two draft beers and dessert. The waitresses were excellent and attentive, and all the staff worked well together and kept the restaurant in nice shape! It was a fun environment, very family friendly or date night friendly! Highly recommend! Quality: 4.5/5 Customer service: 5/5 Cost: 5/5

Loved the food and the service is excellent. The food quantity is satisfactory. Loved the desert. The waiter was very accommodating. Overall I will visit again and will recommend to others also.

Finally got a chance to try this. Not busy at 6pm on a Saturday, but steady. Seated quickly. Rear dining area was down right cold; entire place had music about 3 notches you high for conversation. Wait staff was okay, not overly attentive. Food arrived quickly, with ample portions and great flavor. Extensive menu will bring us back to try other fare.

Google
An amazing experience from the decadent mozzarella breadsticks slight crisp and wonderful seasoned through to the hot cheese inside. The Ribs were incredibly on point, and the barbecue sauce was amazing as well. Also not to forget the wonderful staff. The only thing I had negative to say, was my margarita had way too much ice in it ( for which, I've deducted a star on my review.

Rox E

Google
The waitress was courteous and prompt. The atmosphere was noisy and we couldn’t carry on a conversation across the table. The salad was great and at a reasonable portion. The crab topped pretzel was great, just too large. The main dish was too large it could have fed 3 people with one plate. The fish was great. The fry’s were dry and no flavor, didn’t eat them. The open steak sandwich was overlayed with greasy onion rings and the steak was littered with grissle with very little low grade meat. I do not plan to return or recommend this restaurant to any friends or family.

Yelp
Always enjoy coming to Dukes. This location on the Carlisle Pike has been consistently good every time we've visited. If you're coming for dinner, I would make a reservation or expect to wait. The inside is nice. It can be loud at times. Service can be hit or miss from my experiences here. However, the food is typically spot on! Portions are generous here. Great tasting dishes and drinks. Have had many of the pizzas as well as their sandwiches and would recommend many of those options. A good option for a group get together or date night! Very good vibes, TVs with the game on, and fun music. Definitely give Dukes a try!

Yelp
Return to Duke's on the Carlisle Pike. I must say this is definitely better set up as far as comfort and styling. We arrived around 6;30 PM hungry. We were pleasantly welcomed & seated immediately. My wife ordered the Peach Mule which she said was delicious, I on the other hand ordered a Yuengling Lager, (it actually stayed cold throughout the meal. I gotta get that secret.) My better half ordered her mainstay of Orange Orange Chicken. I order the Italian Stax Their fresh hand breaded chicken with homemade meat sauce and provoke & mozzarella on French Fries. (there options available are sweet potato waffle fries and chefs vegetables) Our meals came out Hot, Plentiful and delicious. DUKE'S does have a large menu full bar and a very good ass't of beers on tap along with bottled, as well as a wine list. Great service, nice looking bar & many televisions so you don't miss your important scores. Shout out to Brendan B. for the excellent service.

Yelp
Always great food and service and the vibe is a mix of old and young. If there's something wrong they will address it. Plus ice cold beer and great fresh lemonade!

Yelp
I been here many times and each visit as good as the last one. Today I came here with a group of 8 I started out with a drink from the bar while waiting I ordered the PaiN KilleR Captain Morgan Coconut Rum ,Fresh Cream Of Coconut ,Pineapple Juice ,Toasted Coconut Rim absolutely delicious. After everyone arrived we were seated with no problems. I ordered the Tuesday special the triple decker quesadilla with tortillas layered with melted cheese, fresh marinated chicken breast, fresh tomatoes, our home made black bean corn salsa, sautéed onions and peppers, and fresh jalapenos. Served with sour cream and salsa man was this delicious I was so full I took some home for the next day yummy!

Yelp
The lasagna was delicious! It was a lot so we took some home - service was amazing and the place had really chill music and was clean inside.

Yelp
We were greeted and seated quickly after being given a choice of where we'd rather sit. Then greeted nicely by our waiter, Collin (in training.) He did an excellent job, professional, friendly, and refilled my husband's drink without being asked. The whole place was decorated with Autumn and looked welcoming. I ordered the NY Strip and Crab Cake with the Chefs Vegetables & a salad. Delicious!! My husband ordered the special for the night, the Porterhouse steak with the Chefs Vegetables. He said he didn't realize a porterhouse was a t-bone. Still enjoyed it. Both steaks were cooked as ordered - perfectly! We look forward to our next visit as this was such a pleasant time.

Yelp
The Carlisle Pike is not light on dining options. Duke's was a welcome stop in the nightmare mile of Christmas Eve errands. We enjoy the riverside location for both the food and the view but the crowded line of cars creeping by on the Pike was a few steps down from watching the icy river roll from the enclosed deck. But that was the only thing lacking. While the dining room was crowded and the kitchen filled with staff carrying large platters always inches from disaster, we were seated quickly and handled with focused attention by a staff that kept things moving and never looked out of control as many restaurants do over the holidays. The front of the house communicated well with the back and they seemed to work in concert despite the swell of activity. Our drinks were never empty, the food took just as long to prepare as any other visit, and it was delicious. Lady Matilda and I had simple sandwiches which were hearty and tasty. Our son, home on leave for a short time, tried his own pizza which he said was far bayond what he expects from his usual street pizza options back home.

Yelp
Stopped by for a bite to eat. So, this is a very cute, clean and friendly place. It has a pubby/western/margaritaville vibe with plenty of parking. The menu is extensive. We ordered the Cheese Breadsticks, Loaded Vegetable Potato, Fish and Chips and the Santa Fe Chicken salad. The portions here are huge. I mean really huge. The plates are bursting with food. The Bread was more like a crispy mozzarella stick, the sauce a bit sweet. The Vegetable Potato was very filling, but probably could be loaded with a bit more with veggies and cheese. The Fish and Chips were stunning to look at! It was a bit greasy but delicious just the same. The fish was flaky and tasted perfect. We couldn't finish the fries there were so many. The Santa Fe Salad was awesome. Best thing at our table. Just delicious and I will be craving it again tomorrow. Overall such a nice place to come and eat. I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

Yelp
Always good food...not my favorite, personally, but always serves a decent meal. Our server, Selena, was excellent this time. Always packed but got seated quickly. Not too loud, but definitely not quiet.

Yelp
The girls and I went for dinner and drinks on a Wednesday evening. Service was very prompt, both at the bar while we waited for everyone to arrive, and at the table for dinner. We sat out in the sunroom area because it was substantially cooler than the interior. In fact, the closer you get to the bathroom area, the hotter it got, likely because of the pizza oven. So if you run warm like I do, ask to sit as far away from that section as you can. It wasn't too crowded on a Wednesday evening but we usually go for an early dinner around 5. We all enjoyed our dinners and the food servings were surprisingly large. I ordered the Ahi tuna burger prepared medium rare and fries. I got a ton of fries and they were fine. The Ahi burger was prepared well and it was good but it didn't come with any kind of aioli as ahi burgers usually do. It was dry. When I asked the server if it was supposed to come with any aioli, she didn't know what I was talking about (like she had never heard the word). She offered me tartar sauce, which seems a shame to put on an ahi steak; but it was dry, so I didn't have much choice. Other than that, everything else was good.

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant! PLEASE BUILD ONE IN TAMPA FL! Lol The menu is extensive and the service was great! They are so kind here from the moment you walk through the door. Their drink menu is also great! The food dishes are huge!!!! Beware!!! Shareable plates here!!! Everything was very clean. I couldn't finish my meal but it was so delicious. Would love to visit again.

Yelp
Duke's food is always great and consistently the best servers. We have pulled into the restaurant after "the game " and have also ordered online for a late dinner pickup to eat at home. Love the dinner portions so we have some leftovers for the next day.

Yelp
This place was disgusting and not good. The chicken pot pie soup only had chicken (with bones in it) and some vegetables. I was expecting Dutch style pot pie , and I'm a BIG soup fan but this soup was honestly horrible. I almost broke my tooth cause I bit into the chicken. Soup tasted old and grainy. The zucchini sticks were soaking wet inside and the breading was extremely salty. My coworker got some salad and said no Bleu cheese. It was brought out with the cheese on it, melted, so she sent it back. The workers picked off the cheese and sent it back out. But the cheese was already melted so it didn't make much of a difference, and she ended up only eating the chicken on it. Not worth the money or time to come here.

Yelp
Dukes never disappoints! What a great atmosphere and a huge menu! You can't go wrong. Their wings are delicious and massive, my favorite is the hot garlic flavor. Will continue coming back and trying new menu items!

Yelp
Yum!! Very very good food, wait was fast. service was awesome very nice. Good looking business/building and nice ambiance/inside

Yelp
Discovered this place on my way home from dinner - my husband insisted on one last drink, and as soon as we arrived, I wished we ate there instead. They had a late Saturday happy hour that was amazing, including $3 jumbo draft Miller Lite. The place was packed and there was a lively scene at the bar. They also had a really lovely setup for their oysters and white claws, but since I was our driver, I just treated myself to peanut butter pie.

Diane S.

Yelp
Food is ok but I have stomach issues and cannot eat much at one sitting. I asked for a children's portion of chicken tenders and fries and the waitress said they weren't allowed to give anyone over 10 anything in the kids menu. They also don't have lunch size portions except for salad. I think it's crazy that they don't allow you to order smaller size portions.

Rachel P.

Yelp
The food was delicious! The menu was very large. A little overwhelming to be honest! But everything looked tasty. I got a "Stax" which had BBQ pulled pork and Cole slaw over waffle fries, my husband got a burger with ham, bacon and Swiss cheese, with a side of Cole slaw, and our son got a burger with crab and ham. For appetizer we got a pretzel with crab cheese dip on top. The portions were very large, and everything was tasty. The service was excellent. Quick and efficient, checked on us often, and our server was confident and friendly, and relaxed. We are from out of town, and Dukes did not disappoint! Lots of families inside. I highly suggest it, for pub style food.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
Had about 10 minutes wait before being seated, didn't take long at all to get food and drinks. Drink was very strong but there's nothing wrong with that!! Awesome experience! The chicken sandwich with crab dip is phenomenal!!

Matt R.

Yelp
Called ahead to confirm we could bring our kids and sit at a high top to get the "Bar Bites". This was confirmed, twice with the hostess. It was 9pm on a Wednesday and our kids had not eaten yet and were really hungry. Drove 20 minutes to get there, sit down at the high stop, and are told by a less than friendly waitress that we can not get the Bar Bites menu at a high top. Waitress gets a female manager, who I believe is related to the owner. She tells us we can not get the HH menu at the high tops. I again told her I confirmed it by calling in. She asks who I spoke to, I said she did not give her name, but it was like 40 minutes prior. She said we can not accommodate you and your kids. We left and will not return. I highly recommend Flinchy's or Brewhouse; five minutes down the road, much better food, service, and atmosphere.

Yelp
Eh! My crab pretzel is good as always. The caramel apple cider mimosa is good, but the spiced apple sangria is gross. I think the spice in the Captain Morgan's is to much for my palette. I didn't finish it. Service is with a smile, but a little slow. Maybe Sunday lunch rush? Anyway, always a favorite place & I'll be back. One Eh experience doesn't make the whole story.

Barbara S.

Yelp
I was so disappointed in Dukes on the Carlisle pike. My family and I were shown to our table. There was chocolate milk spilled on the table and a puddle on the floor. Are the tables wiped and sanitized after each customer??? I won't be eating there again
google avatar

Kathy E.

Yelp
Service: bartender smiled and checked on me regularly Food: delicious. Ordered the southwest chicken backed potato. That is one big arse baked potato.

BB T.

Yelp
The Best Food . I ordered the Santa Fa Chicken Salad. wow! It was huge and so delicious . Worth every penny! Everything on the menu that I have tried is . Never a bad anything here! Waitress was excellent . Super efficient. Nothing wrong about Dukes!!!!

Thien C.

Yelp
Food was bland and the service was plain bad, felt uncomfortable the minute I walked in, would not recommend.. I would actually go out of my way to tell you not to go.
google avatar

Yelp
Been visiting Duke's since it's opened and rarely have a not-good meal. The good-looking but usually limp, soggy fries are frequently a let down but our server suggested I try the waffle fries instead and I'm happy I did as they were hot, had good flavor and good texture. My dining partner had the gigantic stuffed potato and she couldn't finish it. It looked great and she said tasted great. Service was friendly and good. The biggest problem at Duke's is sometimes it gets noisy. Tonight was fine and we had a nice meal.
google avatar

Donald W.

Yelp
Very friendly food was okay and the atmosphere was good. not my favorite spot but it's cool for a guys night out.
google avatar

Corey K.

Yelp
Best place for lunch or early dinner. We usually stop by here every Sunday on our way back from the campground. Either see Allison or Taylor, we call her Tay Tay! Best service is at the bar! The food is pretty much always on par and the drinks are excellent!
google avatar

Eileen H.

Yelp
The menu is huge and has a lot to choose from. Was bummed that I didn't see any salads adding steak as an option. I opted for the prime rib Au jus. The bread was grilled perfectly but the "prime rib" was kind of tough. The strawberry sundae for dessert was pretty good and had real strawberries and whipped cream. Service was great. The drink menu is enormous and definitely has some great options. I was traveling on business, otherwise I would have had 1 or 2...!!
google avatar

Kenny D.

Yelp
Duke's was pretty good. I had the NY strip steak and crab cake dinner, both which were good. The steak in particular was quite tender. The garlic mashed potatoes was also good. However, the rice pilaf was less than desirable, and the garlic toast was rather tough. I also sampled my wife's brother's chicken pasta dish, which was not bad albeit devoid of ample seasoning. All things considered, I would ordinarily rate it 4 stars. However, I am a bit dismayed at their blatant disregard of COVID regulations requiring no dining inside restaurants (I ordered my food to go). The place was quite crowded inside with mask-less diners all about. Disappointing is an understatement.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
My husband always wants to come here. So we do when he picks. I had the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls and the sliders. We also shared a pizza with chicken spinach and bacon. All solid my service was impeccable. Please be sure to check out the seasonal cocktails they one I had was really nice!
google avatar

Jason N.

Yelp
We happened to find Duke's after a late night at Hershey park. What a delightful find! The food was delicious, fresh and surprisingly fast. The customer service was fantastic! We had the French onion soup, buffalo chicken sliders, jammin' jalapeño burger, the ultimate burger and a kids franks and fries. Everything was delicious! My advice would be to upgrade to the hand cut fries; they were AMAZING!!!
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants ever. My go-to is the Korean steak tacos, it is my favorite. It is rich in flavor and also very filling. I also love the location; it is very cute. Also, the service never fails to disappoint. The food is also very affordable and worth every dollar. Expect to be very full when you leave! The location on the water is so cute especially during the summer, it gives the restaurant a cute little beach vibe!

Amina A.

Yelp
Food is horrendous and the service was worse! I expected the same food and service that I got a the Dukes on Front St in Wormleysburg but I was sorely mistaken. I don't know who runs this place but it's completely trash. I'd rather starve
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
Food is good, environment is busy and a bit noisy. The staff is usually friendly. I've only had one bad experience. They have nice indoor/outdoor seating.

Ronald S.

Yelp
Don't waste your money eating here. Eric Carter the manager, is unprofessional and isn't customer friendly. Food is ok. You get a better meal at Texas Roadhouse than you would here. Or try Longhorn Steak house for good food and good service. Food was under cooked. Fries weren't done and wait was long

Madison M.

Yelp
Had Mike as our server. Very attentive and friendly, great food and atmosphere even before Cinco de Mayo. Old Bay fries were phenomenal!
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
We went to Duke's for a late lunch. The food was pretty basic. We shared boneless Buffalo wings and both got the Chesapeake wrap. Both weren't bad, but also weren't something we'd rave about. There are a lot of items on the menu, so there is a lot to choose from. Our drinks were good. We sat outside which is a tent and tables set up in the parking lot. The hostess tried to sit us in the one table that has no shade and it was 87 degrees out. Odd choice. Our waitress was quiet but fine. We would go back, but overall Duke's is your typical chain restaurant.

Matthew S.

Yelp
We got charged for items that we did not order and the staff refused to remedy the situation. Be careful of this business.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
Stopped in for some drinks before we went to dinner at another place. I had a large glass of Apothic Red. My wife loved her two drinks she had. One was a coconut island like sangria. Anyway. The bartender was attentive. Restaurant was very packed. Loved that the bar wrapped around and we had a spot to sit. Bathroom was a little messy. That's a pet peeve of mine. You will lose two stars for that. I worked in many restaurants for a long time. I was a cook, busser, and server for many years. The bathroom tells all. If it's messy, the kitchen is worse. I only ate here once. But I'd rather review on items and meals I am just having. Restaurants and owners change. 3/5 - Please clean the bathroom at all times. Even dinner rush.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
Was a little hesitant to go here after seeing some reviews but was traveling and it was the only place that could seat us immediately. The server was very pleasant and attentive. I had the Philly Chicken Cheesesteak. The cheese sauce was delicious. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because the chicken was diced chicken rather than shredded chicken like in a true Philly Chicken Cheesesteak. The fries were great! My husband got the Jalepeno Barbecue Sliders. Husband said they were just ok. He said they didn't have much jalepeno flavor and the sauce was much too sweet. I'd give the food 3.5 star, the server 5 stars and the atmosphere a 4.5, it was a very cool looking building where we sat near the bar. It looked like we were in a remodeled large garage. I'd go again if ever in the area.
google avatar

Jodie T.

Yelp
Very nice casual restaurant. Love the outdoor seating area. I felt like I was on the bay. Food was great, a tad pricey but would definitely go back!
google avatar

Tony P.

Yelp
One of the worse experiences at any restaurant. The waiter only came a couple times and our food was at the table for 10 min before we even saw him to request silverware to eat. I take a bite of my cheesesteak and out came a long melted plastic wrap. Waited 10 more min for someone to come by our table to inform the manager what was in my food while the rest of the party ate. The manager never apologized and he made up an excuse that that is what is used to cook the cheesesteak. What kind of manager says that? Horrible experience with no remorse from a company that we used to enjoy going to.
google avatar

Camille N.

Yelp
Our server, Marissa was absolutely the best. Her professionalism, attentiveness, and beautiful smile meant a lot. I had my usual margarita which was so good I ordered another. The French Onion soup and loaded baked potato (minus the bacon) was delicious and my husband had a bacon cheeseburger which he liked, but said it could be better. I'm sure we will visit again when we are in the area.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
This place was phenomenal. First time here and I got the jalapeno burger. It had a real good sauce with onion straws and was cooked just right. The waitress was super friendly and quick getting refills of drinks. Highly recommend this place.

Richard S.

Yelp
HEADS UP!!! HEADS UP!!! HEADS UP!!! When you place your order, BE SURE to TAKE A PHOTO of the menu for the items you are ordering!!! Geez, it's no wonder why many restaurants take all the menus back immediately after ordering. They don't want you to be able to compare the CHECK itemizations with the menu!!! They charged $3.00 MORE for the French Onion Soup Bowl than what was stated in the menu!!! They charged $0.55 MORE for the Spaghetti & Meatballs than what was stated in the menu!!! They charged $7.00 MORE for the Half Rack of Ribs than what was stated in the menu!!! Unacceptable!!! Again, when placing your order, be sure to first grab a photo of the menu/price so that you can challenge this when you get your INFLATED check!!! "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me!!!"
google avatar

Bobby M.

Yelp
This place is a dump. The owners clearly don't take care of it and the food is obviously heated up frozen food. Just a terrible run business.
google avatar

Hilary J.

Yelp
When we come in it was good social distance and cleaning as they go including the tables that are social distance tables they marked off which makes me feel better about coming there. The waitress was nice. The slides were really big for sliders they come with a side but I would have just had that at night. We tried the ultimate meat pizza it was pretty good but don't know if it was too grease or sauce but I don't see myself having that again or other pizza that is why it is a four oh and the waitress running off when we would be talking. But I would go back and try other things because the other food and drink was good. So I would recommend.
