Yelp
Absolutely positively 1000% recommend! No that's not a typo. I really did mean 1000%.
Duke's Seafood is located on the southern end of the Westfield Southcenter mall, which in and of itself is a maze! If you have a hard time remembering where Duke's Seafood is, just think *south* of the *center* of the indoor mall lol.
Anyways, I was craving some seafood during my trip to the Pacific Northwest, and Duke's Seafood was one of the very first places I actually bookmarked over the holiday break while researching restaurants to visit. It was within close proximity of my hotel, and they offered a wide variety of seafood dishes from salmon to halibut to even grass fed burgers! If what I had on this trip was indicative of how tasty the rest of their menu was, then I would recommend everything! Alas, I cannot eat the entire menu on a single trip, but I was able to try two dishes that sounded really good:
- Savory Chipotle Wild Salmon Sandwich: Wild Alaska Salmon on rosemary bread with nitrite-free bacon, fresh avocado and tomato, chipotle aioli
- BBQ Ribs & Seafood Mixed Grill: Half rack of Baby Back Pork Ribs with skewered and seared Alaska Weathervane Scallops and Wild Mexican Pacific Prawns, organic baby red potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables
However, there were soooooooooo many choices on the menu it legitimately took me 10 minutes to decide what I wanted! I was hoping one of the hostesses in front would offer some help, but considering the steady flow of customers coming in and going out the front door, I can't really fault them for that. One hostess was blonde, and the other was brunette. The blonde was out and about frequently, but the brunette stayed at the front desk for the most part. Both provided outstanding service to me, and I saw the brunette welcome each dining guest with a professional demeanor. She maintained this demeanor when I finally decided on my order. It also helped that her co-worker, whom I presume is a manager, was also there to help take my order.
As an example, he said that the sandwich comes with fries, something that I didn't see on the menu. He asked if I wanted sweet potato fries or the wedge cut fries something something. I forgot what the something something was, but I know I didn't want the sweet potato fries, so I simply said "NOT the sweet potato fries." They got my drift lol.
As another example, when the hostess asked how I wanted my seafood cooked, it took me by surprise. I've only been asked that question for steak and burgers, but never seafood. Then again, I don't eat seafood that much, but in any event, I said in the most dubious manner "Medium well??" The manager immediately knew I was doubtful about my choice, so he told me he'd recommend medium because the sandwich would still be cooking even after it is handed to the customer, so I went with medium.
The hostess estimated a 15 minute wait. It was about 17 minutes before the blonde hostess noticed me sitting at one of seven comfy chairs by the front door. She asked if I was waiting for something or someone, and I explained to her the other hostess said 15 minutes 17 minutes ago. That other hostess overheard me and said she was packaging up my order. I had forgotten to ask about utensils, but they knew to put not one, but two packs in my takeout bag.
The blonde hostess probably felt bad I waited longer than expected for my order that she offered me a cup of sparkling water with a lemon wedge inside. Now that's service! Though I did have to wait a couple more minutes after I was handed my order for her to bring me my drink on the house.
Did I mention that the Westfield Southcenter was a maze? Did I also mention the parking lot was a maze too? Even though I knew the vicinity of where I parked, it took me a good 5 minutes to find my rental car! Luckily, the food didn't lose its taste as everything tasted superb! They even threw in cups of ketchup, BBQ sauce, tartar sauce, and butter. Butter?? Well they also included some bread, which came in handy because I didn't have breakfast planned for the next day.
The sandwich was perfectly made and had the perfect amount of chipotle aioli! The fries were outstanding. The potatoes and zucchini were seasoned nicely and went well with the sauces. The scallops and prawns were great too! The only flaw was that the ribs weren't fall off the bone tender, but there's no way I can take off a star just for something that I'm sure most others wouldn't mind.
I didn't get any of the hostess' names or the manager's name, but I felt they really went above and beyond to make me a satisfied customer. I was so satisfied that I had to tell my co-workers as well as everyone on Yelp about how outstanding everything was from the food to the service to even the nice interior decor!
Yes it's pricey, so I don't recommend going so often. However, rest assured that if you want to celebrate a special occasion, Duke's Seafood will be there to help you celebrate it in the best way possible! :)
