Miami’s 15 Best Spicy Dishes | Eater Miami

"Newcomer to the thriving Mexican scene in Miami, Pez shines a light on the seafood-centric food of Baja California. Spicy lovers will want to order the aguachile tradicional de camarón, a piquant chilled broth (aguachile literally translates to spicy water) made with shrimp, lime juice, cucumber and onions as well as chiltepin, a mad hot chili from Sonora." - Alona Martinez

Amazing food, great service, and a fantastic vibe! The tacos were super fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The sauces took the whole experience to another level. Staff was friendly and quick, and the place feels really authentic and cozy. Definitely one of the best Mexican spots I’ve visited in Florida. Highly recommend!

Craving real Mexican flavor in Miami? Dulce Vida in South Beach serves up bold, authentic dishes made with love and the freshest ingredients. Their Birria Pizza, tacos, empanadas, and queso were unreal—and honestly, it was the best Birria I’ve ever had. No wonder it’s a go-to for locals and tourists. This spot truly brings a taste of Mexico to Miami!

Alejandra

Google
I had a great experience at this Mexican restaurant! The nachos were absolutely delicious — crispy, cheesy, and full of flavor. What really made the visit special was the amazing service from Nicole. She was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Highly recommend this spot if you’re craving good food and great service!

Every time we come to Miami we visit. The birria tacos (brisket, chicken, shrimp) are to die for and are all equally delicious so it's always a challenge to choose. The birria juices are good enough to just drink up on their own! We recommend this spot to everyone visiting the city and have had friends and family join us on a few occasions and it has never disappointed. Nicole served us today and was kind and friendly. The chef definitely puts his joy and love for food into the amazing tacos that get served out. Thank you, we'll be back!

I recently visited Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant in South Beach, and it completely lived up to the hype! From the moment I walked in, the energy was vibrant and welcoming the space is colorful, casual, and full of personality, just like the food. Let’s talk about the star of the show: the birria. I tried the birria empanadas, birria ramen, and birria pizza each one packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly satisfying. You can tell everything is made with love and authenticity. I also had the elotes and horchata, which were the perfect pairing. Every dish came out fresh, hot, and beautifully presented. The staff was super friendly and attentive always smiling, offering recommendations, and making sure the vibe stayed upbeat. Whether you're going for a casual lunch or a weekend food run with friends, the team makes you feel right at home. Now that they’ve just opened a location in Dallas, I can’t recommend it enough. If you’re into bold Mexican flavors and fun ambiance, Dulce Vida is your next go-to. See you there!

Google
This is a standing only restaurant with sit down restaurant prices. They are most famous for their birria everything. They have birria quesadilla, nachos burritos queso and even pizza. Basically any Mexican food you can think of they put birria inside. If you’re looking for a traditional Mexican restaurant, this is not the place for you. It is good, but not extraordinary and with the price of the food I don’t think I will be coming back. The restaurant was very clean. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. The bar where you can eat standing up is clean and spacious, but the restaurant is very warm so I would recommend taking the food to go if you wanna try it.

Google
Really good food and horchata, but honestly not worth $50. My tacos were pretty empty and my food looked like it had been carelessly thrown into the box. The birria nachos were missing the consome/birria broth and parts of the avocado were brown.

📍 Location & Atmosphere Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant is a small spot in Miami Beach with a grab-and-go setup. There’s no seating, so you’ll have to stand by the countertop to eat. While the space is limited, it adds to the street-food charm. If you’re visiting during peak hours, expect a bit of a wait since there are only two staff members handling orders. 🍽️ Food & Drinks The birria tacos are the highlight—tender, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The accompanying salsa enhances every bite, making them a must-try. However, the chips and salsa were underwhelming. The portion of chips was small, and the salsa had an unusual orange hue, unlike the typical tomato-based version. The green sauce was quite spicy with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The tortillas were decent but not particularly memorable. 👨‍🍳 Service & Hospitality With a two-person team running the kitchen and counter, service can be slow during busy times. That said, they are efficient and put effort into preparing quality food. 💡 Unique Selling Point Dulce Vida excels in birria tacos, delivering consistently delicious and tender meat. If you’re looking for a quick bite packed with flavor, this is a great spot—just be prepared for limited space and potential wait times.

Yelp
Small authenticate mexican restaurant on 6th st in Miami Beach. Very easy to walk by & not notice; but oh boy would you be missing out. Literally the BEST Birria Tacos I've ever had. Your food is made 10 ft from the stand-up counter you will be eating at. The employees are friendly, helpful with quick service. GO!!! You won't be sorry

Yelp
Honestly, didn't like this place. $20 burrito and it didn't look great plus fell apart to pieces before I was even able to put it in my mouth. Their guac is a pretty tiny portion and is overpriced for that matter.

Yelp
A hole in the wall spot but an absolute gem! Found this spot by accident after a day at the beach and ordered the birria burrito and it was amazing, delicious!

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst chicken burrito I've ever had was from here . Super wet , salty and the ingredients didn't mesh well at all . Individually , the ingredients weren't very good either . I ended up forcing myself to eat half , as I planned to do a long walk and needed the calories . Fortunately , I was able to try their Birria tacos and those were an infinitely better experience . Those are definitely worthy of being ordered again . This restaurant has 0 seating , so you have to stand and eat at the counter which didn't add to the experience . Not sure I'd return as there are so many solid restaurants around that offer similar meals with seating .

Yelp
AVOID THIS RESTAURANT at all costs. We ordered Uber Eats for delivery this evening after craving Mexican food. Dulce Vida Mexican Restaurant came up in the search engine. Our choices included Al Pastor Tacos and Elote en Vaso. Please trust me when I tell you the pork in the tacos was the worst quality we have ever experienced locally or internationally. More than 50% of the meat was either fat, gristle, or bone fragment and completely inedible. We have a photo to substantiate. Dulce Vida is an extreme disappointment in a vibrant culinary landscape. The owners/staff clearly have no pride in their product and quality control is completely lacking. Hungry in SOBE!

Yelp
This place is great to visit before or after the beach. I got the nachos with chicken and they were super flavorful and really fresh. They have standing seating only and are pretty fast with making your food. Nicole was very nice and very welcoming. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for some good Mexican food.
google avatar

Trevona J.

Yelp
I got the Birria brisket tacos for $18.50 and they were so flavor and delicious. A bit spicy. The service was quick and polite. There's no where to sit but we stood at the counter and ate without a problem. Spent $42 on two people so can get pricey depending on what you order. Would definitely come back here again!

Yelp
The upsides of this place was that the service was good and the food itself looked very tasty. The downsides were the flavor, the prices, and no seating area. The flavors for the chicken tacos, birria burrito, and birria rice bowl were nothing special. It was all very underwhelming and average. To pay $14.75 for chicken tacos, $18.50 for the birria burrito, and $18.50 for the birria rice bowl for average tasting food (all plus tax) was disappointing. There were also no chairs inside to eat. Pretty much a takeout-only spot unless you want to eat standing up.

Yelp
Tiny little spot in miami beach. anyone who is a foodie knows these are the places with the best food; the small tucked away restaurants. i walked here late the other night and tried their birria pizza and that the golden choice. didnt get the name of the guy working at the register but he was the OG, gave me a bunch of extra salsa verde for my meal. will be going back whenever i visit again. long live the tiny places

Yelp
Walking along a side street in south beach and end up in front of this place. This was a quick bite to eat .. and it was delicious. Love when the food comes fast and the service is great. The deco had that Mexican spicy to it.

Yelp
Nicole took our order and she was great and friendly! We stumbled upon this hole in the wall Mexican place and it didn't disappoint. We ordered birria burrito which my son devoured, my husband and I each got the birria shrimp tacos and normally I never finish my food and kid you not 1 order came with 4 tacos and I ate it all up! It was so good! The consome had a lot of flavor! Only thing is don't expect to get seated since they only had counters and you'd have to stand while eating your food! But food was so good you wouldn't need to stand long anyway!

Yelp
10 out of 10 on anything Birria Tacos. They are known for their birria and there is a reason for it. Living down the street makes it easy to walk to this little mom and pop shop. I think I crave their tacos at least once a week. Nicole who is usually at the register is always a nice face to be welcomed with.

Yelp
Probably the best taco joint in South Beach. This place is a the size of a closet. Just an order counter with a kitchen and no seating except for bar stools. Still, locals and tourists flock to this tiny taco shop. And it's not even on the main road. Why? Because the tacos are that good. Established in 2018, this husband and wife team has been serving the beach tasty tacos and anything birria. The Birria Pizza is a must. So cheesy and flavorful. And don't forget the Brisket Nachos. Both items are perfect for sharing. For those who like seafood, I suggest the Shrimp Birria Tacos. Love this place, or I guess its a hole in the wall serving authentic street food. Its super small but the food is big on flavor!
google avatar

Yelp
Best tacos in Miami! This place is a must try! Hole in the wall, eat while standing up type of place but the tacos and their dip OMGn so good!
google avatar

Reh L.

Yelp
Birria tacos here were great - the consomme was delicious and not too oily / heavy. Cheese and meat were solid, but I do wish the tortillas were crispier. It's really all about the consomme and their salsa verde.
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
Found this gem while in Miami Beach! Cute little hole in the wall... Authentic Mexican cuisine. I had the Brisket Birria tacos. Excellent! The guacamole was incredible! Fresh ingredients! Stopped in for a late lunch. Service was fantastic! Mexican is my favorite and we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little spot off of Washington, and away from all the madness of South Beach. Very good and affordable tacos, not like all the places that charge at least $20+ for 3 tacos.
google avatar

Yelp
It's not the best Mexican food but by Miami standards it's also not the worst. It filled me up and tasted decent. It is overpriced, however, for a place that's carryout only and a burrito that was mostly rice. I had a bean burrito and the beans were pretty good. The chips they serve on the side were delicious and crunchy and a highlight of the meal. Burrito was poorly folded and hard to eat though, and went very heavy on the rice while skimping on the beans and leaving out the sour cream altogether. For a $15 burrito, I was pretty not stoked. Storefront is small. QR menu and order at the counter. There's one small counter where you could eat but it otherwise seems like the kinda place to grab and go. It'll do if you're really in a pinch, but there's better Mexican in Miami and on Miami Beach.

Yelp
I was craving authentic tacos and most places were charging $14-18 for TWO tacos. Also, a lot of them seemed touristy. I thought NY was expensive but south beach takes the cake. After scouring Yelp and Google for an hour. I landed on Dulce. One of the few places serving THREE tacos to an order. Plus the most reasonably priced. It's a small pace with a standup counter for those who want to dine in. Colorful, they have a bathroom and it was very clean. The cashier was nice though she didn't speak English very well. The cooks were moving fast and the wait wasn't that long to order or receive our food considering they were packed. I got the carnitas tacos, my mom got chicken tacos and we got chips with guacamole. The carnitas were okay. They needed to fry them on the flattop so they can get that crispy crust. Also wasn't as flavorful as the ones I've had in other states or Mexico. The chicken tacos were cool. Standard and hit the spot. The sad excuse they gave us for guac and chips is comical. We got our food to go because we didn't want to be cramped up in that small space. Had I checked I would've demanded more chips or choose to skip that. The salsa verde was weak. Overall if in Miami. I'd might try them again if I'm in the mood for tacos. Though there were mistakes based on reviews, pictures I've seen, and pricing. I don't believe I would've received better from the surrounding places. Probably have to leave south beach to get some banging Mexican food.

Yelp
Amazing tacos - highly recommend the brisket tacos & the horchata. Food comes out fairly quickly & the staff is very welcoming

Yelp
The food was freshly made and authentic; great find if you are looking for street style tacos; great decoration, Nicole was very helpful

Yelp
Let me say I've tried a few birria tacos at some staple spots in Miami and they were my favorite, even though it's a little more pricey. Hey they're in South Beach what do you expect??? I'm just saying. They offered 4 tacos while most places only provide 3, which is nice. The portion size was generous. The consome sauce was perfect. I just wish it had a few chucks of meat in it. The tacos had a good combined portion of meat and cheese. Most places either don't have enough meat or too much cheese and etc. Their tacos interior was well balanced. I also purchased the carne asada burrito. It wasn't dry. It had a good portion of cheese and meat. The burrito was not soggy. They provide green salsa for both dishes and they weren't too spicy but had a well balanced kick. Just wished they gave a small cup of pico de gallo with the meal. I will be ordering from them.

Yelp
We was so excited to try this taco spot . They are known for their birria pizza and I can tell you it was flavorful and so cheesy. The cheese they use is so gooey. We also tried they shrimp taco it's also good , the sauce they put on it made it even better. We love horchata so we definitely got that with some lemonade they wasnt too sweet it was perfect. The staff? So chill and friendly. No doubt we're coming back for more. So if you ever hit up Miami Beach, make this spot a must-visit!
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
Honestly, I've been to many taco spots but never truly enjoyed a place like this. My gf and I ordered the birria brisket tacos. I've never had birria before so I didn't know what to expect. We ordered our food with Nicole and she was very sweet. The birria tacos come 4 in a container with the consommé. The service was great and the ambiance was fun if you're looking for a fast quick best bite of your life in south beach! Let me tell you, I was blown away by all the fresh flavors and the juiciness of these tacos. I swear I woke up this morning thinking about them and I have to go back before my flight . We will be back Nicole!!!!

Yelp
All counters, no barstools. Chips were stale and cost thru the roof. $5 for horchata "concentrate" x 2= $12 birra quesadilla & (3) chicken tacos and a side of quac was like $20+ served the guacamole with chips so there was not enough guacamole. Had to order "a side of cheese" for $5 that was about the size of Wendy's ketchup. Service was good but communication gap (obviously). Ambiance is a huge kitchen and a dining area for hunchback mice . If I win the lottery I will buy this place to close it down. In NOLA they would be out of business in a month - minus a few days. Stay in Miami, please! Sorry to escribe, pero es verdad.
google avatar

Yelp
Dulce vida is a hole in the wall birria restaurant. It doesn't have indoor seating so prepare for take out. They have so many different birria options. I got birria tacos and birria queso and it was $40. Very pricey but it is worth it. The tacos were amazing. The queso only came with a few chips but the queso itself was enough for multiple people. Very good
google avatar

Paulet D.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem in Miami beach. I think we found this by accident and let me just say it did not disappoint. It's not the type of place you go to sit and eat. It has standing table you can eat there or take it to go. Honestly the tacos are so good you wouldn't mind standing to eat because they'll be gone in 5 minutes. The Elote was delicious, the quesadilla was very much cheesy and the star of the show - the Birria tacos were one of the best I've had in Miami. The price is very reasonable for fresh authentic Mexican food. If you're ever in the area, must try!
google avatar

Ailun H.

Yelp
Convenient location for a quick meal or snack from our hotel so we stopped by! The interior was bright and colorful - staff was friendly and got our orders pretty quickly. BIRRIA TACOS - 15 Comes with four beef brisket birria tacos! The taco shell was pretty crispy but also very greasy (the oil dripped everywhere). The meat to shell ratio was pretty sad and I felt like I had to sanction the meat so I could have a bit per bite. Without the salsa verde or birria dipping sauce, it was pretty bland. Overall, pretty OK with the sauce and lime juice but not worth the price given the small amount of meat we got per taco. Would recommend Dulce Vida for the convenience factor, but I'm sure you can find tacos for a better price elsewhere.
google avatar

Bridget B.

Yelp
Oh my gosh their Birria is off the hook. Birria 101 per Wikipedia is " a meat stew or soup traditionally made from goat meat, but occasionally made from beef, lamb, mutton or chicken. The meat is marinated in an adobo made of vinegar, dried chiles, garlic, and herbs and spices (including cumin, bay leaves, and thyme) before being cooked in a broth" We opted for the brisket tacos, and they were beyond flavorful. Love the homemade tortilla and that the tacos had crispy edges. The guacamole and chips were perfect. And because we were shopping hungry, we also got the Birria pizza and it was cheesy, meaty deliciousness. I'd give an edge to the tacos though. No real dine in options other than counters but perfect to go.
google avatar

Sonia K.

Yelp
Delicious! Parking is a nightmare over there so I suggest calling your order in if possible. It's to go only. No place to dine besides a small counter at the window without any seating if you just plan on eating something quick. We ordered the barria pizza, shrimp barria tacos, steak tacos, guacamole, shrimp and steak loaded fries. The pizza was our favorite then the shrimp barria tacos. The barria shrimp tacos came with 4 for $15 or $16. The pizza was at least $24 maybe a couple of dollars more. The fries came with a cheese sauce..think velveeta...which is NOT my thing. We would have preferred if it was shredded cheese so we didn't eat those. Overall, we would definitely come back and stick with the barria pizza and shrimp tacos only which were seasoned well. You can get tacos with or without barria My husband doesn't like corn shells so he got the steak tacos with flour shells. Flour shells burn, so barria is only made with corn shells we were told. The barria pizza would have been more than enough for us but we like to try a little bit of everything when trying a spot for the first time. They do sell pop or soda...depending on where you're from will determine what you call these cold, non-alcoholic, fizzy beverages LOL. Enjoy!

Yelp
I know about this place through somebody on Instagram, then decided to check it out. Ordered some birria tacos, very good looking, the tacos was crunchy, cheese pulled was good, but dipping sauce was tasteless which made it kinda off. Staff was extremely gentle & friendly. Price is reasonable.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
Was so excited to try this place. I am a vegetarian so usually Mexican is very friendly. I opted for no protein and my burrito came with steak. Also it was the smallest burrito I had ever seen. The "quesso" was like fake processed movie theater cheese. My mom said her chicken tacos were pathetic. We also got guacamole which was brown and sides of rice and beans. I had to order from another place since I could not est the burrito. Really upsetting.
google avatar

Vicky P.

Yelp
Wow this spot makes such flavorful and cheesy birria! We got both the shrimp and beef birria. We definitely preferred the beef version. The cheese they used was so gooey and amazing. Loved this and we basically inhaled it all. The Jarritos was the perfect accompaniment for the tacos
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
My sister and I needed to use up some time while we waited to get into the Artechouse close by and since we had not eaten, we stopped into Dulce Vida. We figured they would have vegetarian options and honestly all you have to do is ask and they'll find a way to make it vegetarian. I ended up getting the three tacos for $10. My sister got veggie taco salad and rice. Lemme just say...those tacos REALLY hit the spot especially with the spicy sauce that they give you on the side. Mmm they were soooo good! I'm kind of salivating thinking about it. I will also say that I've never had corn in my tacos before so that was different. Everything seemed to be seasoned really well except for the corn. The corn did have a slight grilled taste though so at least it wasn't raw corn. Nonetheless, dip those tacos in the sauces and nothing else really even matters. My mind was blown and my stomach was beyond full. The food was prepared really fast too. It was also nice that it wasn't directly on the main strip so you can just casually stand and eat while watching people pass by the window. It is standing room only and your can't sit. That's not because of covid restrictions. That's because the shop is kind of small and they probably don't have enough room for people to linger. Will definitely eat here again if I'm in Miami.

Krystal L.

Yelp
Great places to visit with family! Thanks to TikTok we found this. Florencia is awesome. She recommended us the birra pizza to try and the birra ramen Just wow it was so delicious . Great places and vibes are amazing places to visit. Super clean and put together!! % would come again
google avatar

Itzel C.

Yelp
Great service and birria tacos were amazing!! Vanessa helped us out at the front and the cooks were quick with the food!!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Birria tacos and brisket tacos were to die for. Hole in the wall kind of place but the food was absolutely amazing. No place to really sit and eat we had to stand at the counter near the window but it's totally worth it if you're looking for an amazing casual dinner this is the place to go.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
This place is amazing the pizza is highly recommended. I had the ramen but Nicole is sweet!

Brad H.

Yelp
Ordered the chips and queso. I do NOT recommend. The "queso" was a thimble sized gas station level cheese-like-substance. So disappointing. The Birria tacos were just okay. They lacked adequate flavor.
google avatar

Reilly Z.

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at. Nichole was super nice and helpful.

Gabriela B.

Yelp
the place doesn't have any seats but the food is SO GOOD so worth it. they also only take zelle or cash. and the food came out quick
google avatar

Raegan L.

Yelp
I was so excited to come and try a hole-in-the-wall type Mexican joint hidden on a side street in South Miami Beach. However, I think my expectations may have gotten the best of me in this case. First, we waited in line behind only 2 other orders, and we ended up waiting 30+ minutes to get our food after we paid. I guess that means it was fresh, but it seriously took so long to get our food that I almost was past the point of hunger when we finally did. I got a shrimp burrito and it was pretty decent, but nothing crazy good. It was very simple, no frills food. I ate the entire thing because my stomach was so empty from waiting so long. The queso and chips tasted like they could've been from a store down the street, they weren't homemade or anything at all so that was disappointing. I thought the store was really nice and decorated cutely, and the worker who helped us was friendly, but overall I was not super impressed with my visit.
google avatar

Juan L.

Yelp
Found this hole in the wall and it didn't disappoint. The food We ordered were 4 orders of Birra tacos and some jarritos to go. Wish we ordered more. Service was good but no seating. We so we had to take it to go, definitely plan on ordering to go. Great spot to grub!!
google avatar

Edwin G.

Yelp
I saw this restaurant trending in social media and it looked very appetizing. So my girlfriend and I made the drive. We were lucky enough to find parking outside. Parking is very limited so be on the lookout for it. This place is really small and there are no chairs to seat but I didn't mind standing inside. As for the food, my girlfriend and I shared the Brisket nachos. The brisket was juicy. You can tell it was prepared properly and the actual chips were crunching. The only thing that didn't catch my attention was the cheese. The cheese reminded me of the nachos and cheese I get when I go to the movies. Unfortunately, I came here with a full stomach so that's all we ordered but I will definitely come back for some tacos.

Diana C.

Yelp
No seating inside but very good birria tacos. Cashier really nice! I loved their shrimp burritos too.
google avatar

Stacy A.

Yelp
Usually Yelp comes through for me, but in this case it did not. We ordered chicken flautas, 3 steaks tacos and a chicken burrito. The taco wraps used are packaged, not fresh. My burrito came out of the kitchen cold, the cheese wasn't even melted. IMO there isn't a way to "fix" that, really. It was not good, I picked through the contents, threw out the burrito wrap.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
I was surprised by this little hole in the wall gem! At first you think you're off a tourist trap strip so it's gonna be.....bleh but wow I was wrong! So happily wrong! The place is standing room only or take out, which honestly is fine because the only right way to eat a juicy dripping birria taco is standing up. The Birria tacos are absolutely delicious, not overly greasy and still a crunchy bite! The spicy salsa is delish! Can't go wrong slathering that's on anything! I was so happy to eat these, truly. Better than a lot of birria tacos I've had in Miami for sure! Another plus, the service, excellent. Super friendly and nice, it's a family owned small business and we have to support businesses like this who are putting out a great product with a smile! Muchas gracias Nelly! You can tell the food is served with love, truly. The asada fries, well who doesn't love fries loaded with delicious things!?!?! You'd be crazy not to! The elote, ugh so good, they make their own salsa that goes on it and it's so good! I will absolutely be going back!
google avatar

Amelia A.

Yelp
Great taste, but not worth the price. We nought five items and paid $70, and got much less food than we expected. Also, the nachos are made with nacho cheese 5like ballpark nachos) not queso, so make sure to specify if you want differently.

Yelp
OMG!!!!!! Food was amazing everything I was looking for!!! The owner is such a beautiful soul. She was telling us how she started her business 3 years ago.I'm so happy I had a chance to eat here the street tacos were on point the salsa was everything and the rice beans and street corn to die for. From one business owner to another you are doing everything right I Love it here and hope to return soon.
