It is the end of December. Over the past week, I have traveled extensively in the Yucatán peninsula--Tulum, Merida, and Valladolid. I've had sorbets in all of these places. Looking back, this was the worst experience we had.
If you want a feel for how sorbets were made here 100 years ago---some water, a lot of sugar and some flavor--this is the place to go. Nothing here (other than the updated prices perhaps) seems have changed from its original setting--other than the staff glued to their phones. Even the chairs looked original to the store!
We tried the tamarind, the chocolate, the toronja and vanilla. Other than the tamarind, all the others tasted like flavor "suggestions"--there was nothing that tasted like vanilla or grapefruit.
The person taking our order was yawning looking at us and couldn't wait to get to his video. Taking our order seemed to be an unpleasant distraction. We were swayed by the amazing reviews on the web and persisted.
There should be nicer sorbeterias in Mérida--save yourselves the trouble of going here. By the way, if you choose to order this rather expensive poorly made dessert for its expensive price, they only take cash or American Express...
