The Best Restaurants in the Berkshires | Eater Boston

"Housed in the inn that was renovated last year, Dulu Cafe and Lounge in Dr. Sax House offers starters like shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, and a roasted mushroom board; along with entrees like eggplant caponata, chicken confit, and hanger steak. There’s a fireplace for chilly evenings." - Emma Van Slyck

A lovely place for dinner after an afternoon at Tanglewood! The decor is elegant modern (although the silver napkins were a bit impractical and slippery) and the service attentive (although the main dishes took a bit of time to come out). The salmon and pasta were outstanding (the steak was just a bit tough), and the drinks were elegant and fun. This review is a summary from our adult party of 4 (some of whom are more critical than others)- I was slightly worried this was more of a bar than a restaurant, but happy that it was an excellent dinner experience - overall thumbs up; we hope to return!

We were on a short driving trip around the Berkshires. We stayed in a hotel near Lenox and drove out from there daily for sightseeing and dining. One night we booked a table at Dulu, a highly rated restaurant in a grand old house called Doctor Sax House. We were greeted nicely and got a nice table in the front room. Only a few people were dining on our night. We ordered the charcuterie board, pilled high with cheese and meats, and baked salmon. More than enough food for two of us to share and all delicious. A beautiful old house with 8-9 rooms for rent upstairs. The bar room was beautiful and their was a singer. A very nice dining experience.

A group of us stopped at dulu on a bachelorette trip! We immediately loved the vibe and the service and drinks were unmatched. They treated my friend (the bride) so well and were so accommodating. They provided snacks before our drinks and the olives were the best I’ve ever had. The cocktail menu had something for everyone and the drinks were not only beautiful, but tasted amazing, too. Would definitely go back if we are ever in the area again!

I see five star reviews and I must have come on the wrong night. My family are very seasoned diners and thought we would give delu a go. I gave the food one star because I couldn’t give a zero because we never even had a chance to eat anything. With almost an hour under our belts with only water, the two waiters and a bartender on the floor with 10% of the tables sat it was quite surprising how neglectful the service was. Perhaps not intentionally but clearly lacking the mechanics. On top of that, the attempt to order wine three times resulted in serious failure with the last wine to be a rosé ordered off of the bottle wine list that came to the table in a ice bucket warm as we were told that was a cellar list wine and “we don’t have those wines chilled”. Two roses on the bottle list, one extremely high priced and yet these wines are not chilled? The one I ordered was almost $80 I must say in 50 years of dining I have never come across such a nonsensical statement when ordering a bottle of rose. I realize that this place is new but they need to seriously get it together as the prices that they are charging should command that. Obviously there is a lot of money spent on decor but apparently not on staff and training. Not even an attempt to correct this matter. Bistro Zinc down the street was packed; we get that as we usually go there.

Wow, Dulu in the Berkshires is the place to be! In the morning, the smell of fresh bacon and coffee will drive you wild. Excellent service and delicious menu. But at night, it’s a site to be seen. The bar tending staff is just lovely. The cocktails are unique and epic. The ambiance and decor is just absolutely gorgeous. That fireplace in the bar, wow! You can not compare to anything else. Straight up elegant and classic. By not visiting this restaurant, you’re truly missing out on quite the experience. I felt like I was in a movie! Such a romantic night but also perfect for a girls night. Shoutout to the owners we’ve met them and they are super cool!!

We hosted our holiday party (during a snowstorm!!) and were treated like celebrities! Kelly the owner personally greeted us with a welcome charcuterie and drink menus printed with our logo! Such elegance and thoughtfulness! The cocktails are incredible, service so friendly and the food is delicious! Terrific place! Thank you!!

I have just one word: WOW! I got married in Lenox this past weekend and had my after party at Doctor Sax and it wildly exceeded all my expectations. Kelly (the owner) and Myra were so attentive and really took the time to understand what we wanted. And they planned EVERYTHING. From a cocktail list, to snacks, lighting, music (INCLUDING AN AMAZING DJ-DJ Soren)—the vibes were out of this world. It takes a special place run by incredible people to create an event that appealed to a group of 50+ people ranging in ages from 21-60+. And everyone had the best time drinking their incredible espresso martinis and aperitas (I mean honestly, those drinks were my favorite drinks of my entire wedding weekend), eating the amazing snacks including gluten free chicken tenders that I’m still dreaming about (seriously, they are so good), and dancing the night away. The best part was that there was something for everyone. Dancing in the huge side area, tables for chatting, even a room with a cozy fireplace with chess and comfy couches. The staff was friendly, helpful and so quick to help all of our guests. Even at the end of our entire wedding weekend, our guests were still raving about the night at Doctor Sax House. This place is perfect for an afternoon drink, late night hangout, large event, brunch… they do it all. Don’t think, just go and experience it! You won’t be disappointed!

This was one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time. Ren enthusiastically greeted us and showed us around this gorgeous space and gave us a perfect table outside. Abby, our server, was friendly, attentive and the two of them went so above and beyond with not just our meal but helping us to navigate our post meal plans. The food was wonderful, the ambiance fantastic but would come back again and again just for this kind of service.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Pricey, but worth it. I had the pasta dish and my husband had the beef dish. The salad we had was excellent too. Be prepared for $18 and $19 cocktails- more than Boston prices! But very well made and delicious.

Yelp
I really want to recommend this place more. It is in a lovely house on a pretty corner in Lenox. The surface was fantastic and attentive, so, from an ambience and service point of view, you'll have an excellent night. The food, however, was a bit disappointing. My wife and I ordered the Chicken Confit and the Persian Crispy Rice. When chicken confit is done well, it should be tender, flavorful, and the meat should fall off the bone. Sadly, I found this chicken rather boring. It would be something that I could get at almost any restaurant for chicken. The Persian rice was supposed to be filled with eggplant. But it had just a narrow, thin layer. It tasted more like rice than with any sense of eggplant. I'm still going to give this place four stars. Because the service was elegant and the environment is pleasant. If you're going somewhere for a date or to meet some people and want to have a nice time, then you've found a really lovely spot. The food isn't terrible. It just isn't what it should be.

Yelp
Bistro food at a fine dining price. This place is trying, but we're not sure it even knows what exactly it is trying to imitate. This may be the most expensive restaurant in the Berkshires. And I really hate to give them only 3 stars, but at these prices, you would expect a Michelin star experience. But we're not even sure if they know what such an experience is. They are certainly trying to act as if they are a very high-class restaurant (or at least their fantasy about it). Instead, they offer food that was over-elaborated and put together in a clumsy fashion. Service was formal, but cold, and soul-less - even annoying at times. Now I hate giving only 3 stars to a place that does make a great lobster bisque (the rest of the meal was just OK.). But at the prices they charge, our meal was otherwise underwhelming and sadly disappointing. I would suggest sending the staff to a real Michelin-starred restaurant so they can at least have a better idea of what they should be trying to imitate.

Yelp
Somewhat dim but table lights helped Music a little loud but heard and could be heard Comfy seats and classy marble tables Service sluggish Bread was crispy and butter pleasantly unusual Shrimp was but 3 but was chilled and the cocktail sauce was very good The mezze plate was mehhhhhze at best. Hummus was not very toothsome and veggies were ok--I guess... Caesar salad was smallish and lots of yummy sour dough croutons but the dressing was bland--needed more anchovy pasta, garlic and Worcester sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly and sliced and seasoned just right--was a little rubbery. :-( The portion was also a tad stingy They are losing a star because nobody came by after food was dropped off to check in on us. That's my new pet peeve...don't scamper off hoping for the best.

Yelp
What a gem! We found dulu online while looking for dinner spots near Tanglewood. The restaurant is inside of a hotel and has the cutest decor. The reserved a table for 3 in the bar. The service team is still working out some kinks, but the food and hospitality make up for it. We had the charcuterie board for an appetizer. Our drinks were soooo good, they have an extensive bar menu. My table mates ordered the salmon, I ordered the steaks. Everything was delicious. When back in the area I will definitely dine here again.

Yelp
So unfortunate to see this adorable place fall victim to lack of staffing. Having come from being a resident in East Hampton, LI, where staffing challenges take down so many establishments, I fear the Berkshires may suffer from the same problem. At Dulu there was no management presence on the floor of the restaurant/bar. The staff were so overwhelmed, even though very nice. Seemed as if Everyone was running in every direction. We were Customers with no water, no follow up once food was dropped off, no refills on beverages, etc. We were sorry to see how badly the staff needed Support. I'm rooting for this little gem. Perhaps owners/management should be more hands on.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, but the food was disappointing. I ordered the chicken skewers expecting kebabs and found the presentation unappealing.

Yelp
My significant other and I dined at dulu Restaurant on July 3 2025. A very romantic place, excellent service. We ordered Roasted Mushroom Plate for our HORS D'OEUVRES and Chicken Confit For 2 ENTRÉE. Our food choices were absolutely phenomenal! There are no sufficiently superlative words or poetic metaphors to describe these culinary masterpieces. Extraordinary! Undoubtedly, I will dine at dulu every time I am in the Lenox area.

Yelp
Food was excellent just right for girls night with drinks. My dirty martini was delicious and just right! The ambiance was upscale and cozy , trendy and elegant. Everything was perfect and matched well. Will be back!

Yelp
Third visit from NY and it keeps getting better. The cocktails are incredible, thoughtfully crafted and balanced. Cool vibe, welcoming, and was full of energy all weekend. The team is absolutely amazing and very attentive. Owner is wonderful! If you're in Lenox or anywhere near the Berkshires make a stop at dulu, highly recommended.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant & cafe. Dulu is tucked inside the gorgeous Doctor Sax House boutique hotel on the square in Lenox. The cocktails are expertly crafted, the food is top notch and the service is great and always with a smile. If you're looking for an experience in the Berkshires this is a must.

Yelp
Food was on point. Delicious!!!! Truly. Food was really fresh and from local farms and we love that! Drinks at the bar were just straight up amazing. We came in from the city and the ambiance reminded me of the Carlyle. Chic and classic. Let's not forget the service... really kind and fun staff providing an elevated experience. It's the kind of place you visit and you don't forget. Already honestly planning my next trip here.

Yelp
So, we're 4 New Yorkers who visited the Berkshires for a first time. Red Lion Inn was recommended by various well-wishers. Upon arriving, we immediately realized that we need to be elsewhere. Yelp search suggested dulu. As other places around Lenox were closing. What can you say? Obviously, it's work in progress. The menu (which we were told is being changed) is very simple, too simple. The mixologist was out of this world! Put some smoke in my Manhattan. The food was hit and miss. Bruschetta bread needs to be toasted, no? And not to be soggy. We felt that with a new menu and more order to their operation, they could be the king of the Berkshires!!

Yelp
Great drinks! Only thing is they should get Tito's and chambord so I can have my French martini next time :) that being said, fever tree club soda from drinks is always appreciated. owner is exceptionally nice, too! Ambiance is chill and relaxed. Great spot for an afternoon cocktail.

Yelp
Dinner at dulu last night was an amazing experience. The owners are very hands on and welcoming. We sat in the bar room which has a special ambience and decor. The food was fresh and delicious. The menu is small but offered a chicken, steak, fish and pasta option. The beet salad was so good! They serve bar snacks with your drink which is a nice touch. I can't wait to go back and bring my friends!

Yelp
We dined at Dulu for the first time last week - it was a treat! Great food, fantastic service and a lovely setting. They have a beautiful bar, which is open late

Kate L.

Yelp
Service was so attentive and kind, food and drinks all delicious. Atmosphere is both refined and relaxed.
