The 38 Best Restaurants in Markham, Ontario | Eater

"This is not your average high-end restaurant specializing in traditional Mughlai/northern Indian dishes. Yes, it offers a variety of tandoori meats that are impeccably fired, as well as curries and Hakka fare, but the portion of its menu dedicated to the namesake dum pukht cooking is what’s generating buzz among Markham’s food cognoscente. Chicken, mutton, biryani, or vegetables are slow-cooked over low heat in clay or copper vessels sealed with dough, resulting in a flavor and fragrance bomb. The lush restaurant also has an inviting bar, where nondrinkers can try the house-made nimbu pani, a refreshing lemon-infused soda with black salt and Indian spices. [$$]" - Faiyaz Kara

This was our first time with my family at this restaurant. We ordered paneer Tikka masala , khoya kaju curry , daal panchratna and dum pukht biryani. Food was delicious and the surprise was khoya kaju curry. We didn't expect it to be so good. None of us drink so we didn't order any cocktails or alcohol. Our server Ms Vishal was courteous and very attentive to our needs. The whole ambience of the restaurant was good. Music was at the correct decibels . I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area who wants a good Indian restaurant. It's bang for the buck and you won't be disappointed.

I recently visited this Indian restaurant for the second time with my friends, and it was just as amazing as the first visit! The food was fantastic; I enjoyed the chicken curry and the lamb Rogan Josh, both dishes bursting with flavor. Our waitress, Jasleen, was incredibly kind and went above and beyond by bringing us a complimentary saffron dessert to celebrate my birthday. Without us even asking, they also played “Happy Birthday” and brought multiple desserts for us, which was such a lovely surprise. The service was top-notch, and the staff always had a warm smile. I’ll definitely be coming back often!

Our family had an amazing experience. The service and atmosphere was great. The attention to detail and accommodation for hosting birthday party was truly amazing. Our Server Vishali and the team was very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was really delicious. I really enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and bhindi masala. The garlic naan was fresh and mango lassi was excellent. The DJ/live music was very lively and entertaining.

Great new addition to the neighborhood. We had the biryani and Rogan Josh which were both delicious. Jasleen (our server) was very friendly and gave good recommendations. The manager was also very welcoming and friendly! The only feedback is that our drink came quite slowly to the table. But other than that we really enjoyed and will likely be back :)

We enjoyed an excellent meal at Dum Pukht. The veg biryani was fragrant and well-spiced, the paneer makhani was rich and creamy with tender paneer cubes, and the butter naan came out hot, soft, and perfect for scooping up the curry. Vishali was very welcoming, and we received great service from her throughout our meal. Portion sizes were generous, prices fair for the area, and the flavors felt authentic. Highly recommend for anyone craving quality Indian vegetarian food in Dum Pukht

Food was tasty, the server was polite, and the bartender was awesome. But a few things really put me off. Ambience is pretty average, with seating way too close together, making it feel crowded. Drinks are overpriced—cocktails are $36 plus tax for just 1.5–2 oz of alcohol, which is ridiculous. Ordered pint of Stella which was basically the size of a 330 ml bottle (less than 12 Oz) and that costs $12 switched to Corona bottle itself lol. The Sheppard & Yonge area is full of bars and lounges offering better drinks at much more reasonable prices. On top of that, they sneak in charges—like $7 for water. The bottles on the table aren’t bottle water, and no one asked if I even wanted bottled water, yet I was charged. Definitely feels like an easy way to make extra bucks off customers. Food itself is tasty, quantity is generous but pricey comparatively. I prefer takeout but I won’t be coming back here to dine in. Not worth it overall.

Good service, our waitress Jasleel was super nice. The food is good as well. We ordered chicken and lamb. Both were delicious. Also very large amount of food. Could only finish 1/2 of each curry. Will come back to try some other dishes as well.

The Yonge location was excellent. Our server (Hardi) was super professional and welcoming, the decor was classy, and their lamb vindaloo is the perfect level of spice. Will visit again!

Yelp
We tried delivery with this place and were very excited because there is a dearth of good Indian food in this neighbourhood. We ordered the Khoya Kaju Curry and the Aloo Gobi Masala along with a cheese naan. The curry was creamy and rich, while the aloo gobi was well-spiced. The cheese naan was a bit floppy, but we threw it under the broiler and it made a world of difference. Overall, I'm really happy that there's a new option in this area, and I'd want to try their signature dish when I dine in.
