Power Ranking Every Two-Word SF Restaurant That Starts With "Dumpling" - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Dumpling Bites in the Sunset is a newcomer to the “Dumpling + Noun” scene, but they’ve quickly risen in the ranks. Their massive xiao long bao, which burst in your mouth like a pork-y water balloon, win our Soupiest Soup Dumplings award by a landslide. And the pan-fried Shanghai-style buns have bottoms so crispy, you’ll hear the crunch of you and your neighbors biting into them reverberating throughout the entire two-story space." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

The 9 Best Xiao Long Bao In SF, Ranked - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The xiao long bao from Dumpling Bites in the Sunset are each the size of a golf ball. If we were handing out superlatives, these would be crowned Soupiest Soup Dumpling. They also come in orders of 10, which is helpful when you’re attempting to consume your body weight in pork and savory soup. This two-story spot is also big enough to fit a dance floor in the middle, so it works for group dinners involving piles of steamers or last-minute weeknight meals." - julia chen 1

Dumpling Bites - Review - Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Dumpling Bites in the Sunset wins the Soupiest Soup Dumplings award by a landslide. Their massive xiao long bao burst in your mouth like a pork-y water balloon, and are reason enough to get here. Another: boiled pork dumplings, which are heavy on the chives and ultra-tender. And the pan-fried Shanghai-style buns have bottoms so crispy you’ll hear the crunch of you and your neighbors biting into them reverberating throughout the entire two-story space. The dining room is big enough to fit a dance floor in the middle, so it’s easy to walk in—get here for last-minute family dinners or low-effort weekend lunches." - Julia Chen

I saw some good reviews about this place and decided to give it a try. Honestly these are the best soup dumplings I’ve had in years. The skin is thin, the soup inside is super generous, and it beats a lot of other spots I’ve been to. Tip for anyone new to XLB: eat them right away. If you let them cool down they lose the magic, so always eat the soup dumplings first. I also tried a few other dishes and the string beans here are outstanding. The preserved vegetables give them a little extra kick you don’t usually find and they are stir fried perfectly. The rice cakes are chewy with great texture and the squab was juicy and flavorful. This place is a gem and I’ll definitely be back soon.

I was walking around the area with my family and saw their anniversary sign near the front door. Large variety on the menu, but one of the most memorable dishes was the Wonton in Chili Oil. Each bite was rich with flavor and just the right amount of spice. Also nice that it was 50% off from their anniversary deal. Delicious food, fast service, great place overall.

UPDATE 8/19/25: I feel the need to speak up because I can't stand it when people leave negative reviews for something that affects most, if not all, restaurant businesses out there. Yes, they were recently closed for a short time from an inspection finding but the fact that they were able to pass re-inspection and reopened so quickly means the issue was minor and addressed promptly. This is a small family-owned restaurant that puts so much love into their food. Their Xiao Long Bao is some of the best you’ll find in San Francisco — fresh, delicate, and full of flavor. I have had the pleasure of chatting with the owner and XLB masterchef there, and they both genuinely cared about my feedback and want to keep improving to better suit the wants of the diners there. If you want handmade dumplings made with care without any of that pretentious vibe (ahem dumpling supreme), this is the place. I’ll keep coming back, and I hope more people give them the chance and recognition they deserve. You're missing out on the best XLB you can find in the bay area if you don't. Original review: A traditional XLB place on Noriega! The dumplings are made freshly every single day, and you can taste that in the thin chewy wrappers when you pop one of them soupy bad boys into your mouth. We tried the original and the crab ones, and I personally liked the traditional OG ones a bit more, but both were super flavorful and super juicy! We ordered the pork potstickers per the worker's recommendation and was surprised that it was one of my favorite dishes that night. It is crispy on the bottom, filled with super juicy and flavorful filling, paired with a perfectly chewy but not too thick wrapper. We also ordered the salt & pepper fish fillet, and that was a huge hit as well - crispy batter and perfectly seasoned. We had a friend that doesn't eat pork and he was still able to enjoy vegetarian potstickers and many other dishes. Lastly, we ordered so many dishes but ended up only being around $20 per person!!! This place is very competitively priced compared to other places in SF. Come check them out before lines start wrapping outside their door!

We came today on a Sunday afternoon after we heard that they reopened after an inspection. We came as a group of 4 and we started off with the XLB's. The XLB's were hot and steamy and had a mouthful of soup. Super delicious. We then ordered the Shanghai Chow Mein, Dry-Fried Chicken Wings, and String Beans. These were the recommended dishes from our server. They were also super tasty and in our opinions, the food has flavor that not a lot of Chinese restaurants offer. The service was quick and amazing; the food came out fast. Also to mention, the ambiance of the dining floor is very aesthetic with great lighting along with a nice high ceiling. Not to mention the bathrooms are very clean. Overall, 10/10 experience, will be back with the fam next week

We stayed in a local Airbnb for a work trip, and found this place by chance. Absolutely amazing food, and calm atmosphere. If you are from the UK like us, you will be delighted to find that they have the classic Chinese takeaway boxes that you see in US sit coms! We came every day they were open for the remainder of the trip. Jason was always very welcoming to us, lovely local family business. A hidden gem. Can’t wait to return next time we are in San Francisco.

When the weather is getting cold, dumplings and soup noodles are one of the best choices to warm our stomachs. This place is one of decent places for dumplings. I was told this place always gets packed. I came here on a Sunday around 12PM, I had to wait about 45 minutes for my table which was quite reasonable. The pace could have got faster if some party grabbed a check without sitting at a table too long for conversation. I ordered a glass of hot sweet soy milk, sticky rice, five spice beef brisket noodle, pork with veggie noodle soup, and pan fried pork bun. The hot sweet soy milk and sticky rice were decent and nothing special which meant the taste was similar with every other places that sell them. The five spice beef brisket was cooked nicely but to me the whole noodle was missing some flavors. The pan fried pork buns were just okay like any other places. So overall this place, to me, was at the average range which I gave them 3.8/5 rating. The prices are also at the normal range in that neighborhood. As I was waiting for my table, I was also observing their services and pace (taking orders, table cleaning, sending checks, cleaning, and letting people sit at tables). The pace was not quite smooth which caused some traffic jam. In other word, it's quite disorganized. I saw some servers walked back and forth (like going to a table at time) multiple times where they could finish a few tasks at different tables in one run. However the services were not bad though. I would come back to try other dishes. Please don't be those people sitting at a table and talking for too long after food when there's other people waiting.

We came here for a holiday luncheon for our volunteer group. We loved our big table on the balcony. We had multiple dietary restrictions and every person enjoyed their food. Staff were super attentive and helpful in recommending great dishes. We came in a weekday lunch and it was not busy. We loved our big table on the balcony. My favorite dish was the Chinese donuts + hot sweet soy milk combo. Total comfort food. Soup dumpling: skin wonderfully delicate, broth is delicious but the meat is slightly under seasoned.

Google
Food here is on point (their XLBs are excellent), consistent, and there's always space for larger groups. Price isn't bad, especially with their ongoing promos. That said, we are aware this place did get written up for health violations, which is serious and I hope this sends a clear message to the restaurant and others in the area that there is no excuse for poor food prep environments when serving the community. But also, we realize it's difficult enough to keep lights on for businesses in SF, so we will continue to support, even if it's with a few reservations moving forward.

Yelp
Everything is lovely! Let's start with food. They have a variety of selection of Shanghai food other than dumplings. And the portion is good size so don't be swayed by the restaurant name. We had old time faves Shanghai noodle, hot & sour soup, string beans, dried fried chicken, cucumber salad and they are all delicious. We always think we ordered more than we should but the plates are all wiped out at the end of the meal! Special mention their chicken skewers and house special rolls. These 2 deserve drum roll! Service is efficient and friendly. The owner checks on your tea and talks to the customers. The place is clean and presentable. Good to take a client or visitors.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here. I love their menu and service was on point. We enjoyed pretty much everything. Sheng jian bao were good, wontons had an interesting and tasty filling but I wanted more flavor from the chili oil. House special rolls are unique and worth trying. Highlights- XLB - these are really delicious. Piping hot, full of gelatinous soup, soft and savory filling.. really good Dry fried string beans - beans are nice and crispy crunchy, good flavor and not overly salty Would not order again- Cucumber salad - marinade is too light, pieces of cucumber are too big, so not enough flavor. Will definitely be back to try more!

Yelp
Just kind of terrible? Definitely the worst dumplings I've had in almost 20 years in San Francisco. Everything tasted like the only flavors that weren't leached out were oil and salt. I mean no one got sick or anything, so that's good. But I ended up making cereal.

Yelp
Small restaurant with quick service and yummy food for reasonable prices Tried the Shanghai rice cake, clay pot fish head, string beans, and soy milk. All was delicious, a little on the oily side. My favorite was the string beans The restaurant is good for small to medium sized groups and the food is authentic. Would recommend!

Yelp
Great food in the sunset!! Must get the pea shoots because they're cooked perfectly with whole garlic cloves. They also have so many variations of soup dumplings and we decided to go with the abalone ones (never seen this before) and the flavor was good but was chewier than I would've liked. Good service. Okay ambiance, they kept the restaurant pretty cold in temp, almost all the customers kept their jackets on. Would come back to try more dumplings.

Yelp
This newly opened dumpling spot on Noriega was a delightful surprise and has officially made it into my top 3 soup dumpling spots in SF. The interior is freshly renovated, the service is spectacular, and the portion sizes are generous. Overall, a fantastic experience. We ordered the spicy wontons, Shanghai-style pan-fried pork buns, and shrimp dumplings. Every dish was packed with flavor and made with high-quality ingredients. I'm already planning my next visit!

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for the longest time, since they're one of the few restaurants in SF that sell fantuan (sticky rice roll), but the one time I tried, they were really busy, and my schedule was inflexible, so I couldn't dine in. Finally, I got around to it! I ordered a fantuan as a starter and the Mongolian beef with rice dish. The fantuan was good as expected and satisfied the craving. The Mongolian beef entrée was quite tasty with very tender beef, and the portion was generous, so it was a great value. I really liked the food and atmosphere here and look forward to coming back.

Yelp
Came here looking for a big bowl of sweet soy milk and Chinese donuts. ..... wasnt what I was expecting but everything else was spectacular! My boyfriend and I came around 2pm -- there were only a handful of guests left We got seated quickly and got the abalone and pork XLB, the spicy pig ears, wontons in chili oil, the Shanghai pan fried buns, the fried Chinese donut, and sweet soy milk. The sweet soy milk comes in a cup. When asked to put in the bowl, there were able to, but it was a bit lukewarm. Sad. The Chinese fried donut was soo good -- crispy and fluffy. I could not stop eating it. The XLB skin was so thin and the soup inside was delicious and flavorful. I think I can just get this and be satisfied. The pan fried buns were also good -- although it could be a tad more pan fried. There is not broth that comes out, like other places, but the meat is tender and juicy. The spicy pig ears were average, but ive been wanting them for awhile, so it satisfied a craving. And the wonton in chili oil was bombbb. they came hot and the sauce/broth it was sitting in was so delicious. Since I had asked for the sweet soy milk thats usually in a cup to be put in a bowl, the waiter had asked me if wanted to try the savory soy milk that comes in a bowl. I ordered it, and it was not my cup of tea. my boyfriend kind of liked it... it has a fermented mustard-green type taste, with a little bit of chili oil and bits of tofu flying around. Im sure other people liked it, but just not me. lol total was around $80 something. I would definitely come again if im in the area!

Yelp
Some of the best Chinese food in the Sunset district. We ordered: - Shanghai-Style Steamed Pork Xiao Long Bao - Shanghai-Style Stir-Fried Rice Cake - Wonton Noodle Soup - Eggplant with Garlic Sauce The food came out quickly, and the portions were generous. All of the stir-fried entrees had that wok flavor if you know what I mean. The wonton soup was comforting, and the XLBs were juicy and savory. I had no favorite entree because they were all so yummy. I'd ordered all of the dishes again. It was a scrumptious meal with great customer service. (e.g., I left my credit card on the table and one of the waiters ran two blocks to give it back to me!)

Yelp
New Shanghainese restaurant in the Sunset! They definitely give a modern feel with the newly renovated setup. I came in on Thanksgiving and got seated immediately. My group of 4 ordered: Shanghai-Style Steamed Pork Xiao Long Bao (3/5) - Potentially the thinnest skinned XLB I've ever had and there was a good amount of soup/meat but the main thing was the flavor was lacking. Shanghai-Style Pan-Fried Pork Buns (3/5) - This was alright but nothing stood out to me like could be pan-fried more & have more flavor. Shanghai-Style Chow Mein (3/5) - A lot of veggies but not many noodles & the noodles were very choppy like small pieces everywhere. The flavor was good though. Boiled Pork & Sweet Corn Dumplings (3/5) - It was ok. This place has good prices but not sure I'd come back because of the lack of flavor. You could love this place if you're looking for a clean Shanghai taste though! Overall, just ok for me.

Yelp
Our dumplings came lukewarm, which was a huge disappointment because I prefer my food on the hotter side. Some of the soup in my dumpling dropped on my plate and it immediately turned into gelatin, so it wasn't anywhere near hot. We also got wonton soup, cucumber salad, hot and sour soup and pan fried bao (I don't remember the exact name). The pan fried bao was also okay.. something was just off about it and it didn't taste that great to me. The wonton soup was pretty good though. My favorite dish was the hot and sour soup. It came out popping hot and was very flavorful. It had a good balance of spicy and sour. I don't think I would come back here again because the food wasn't good for me. The place had a nice modern feel to it, but that is the only positive thing I can say about the place. There is no parking lot, but a block or two away there is free parking.

Yelp
I've walked by this new dumpling spot for weeks and finally decided to give it a try! It's newly remodeled so everything is brand new and so modern in there! The food was great and fresh and the workers were nice and quick! We ordered XLB, black bean noodles, crab and pork XLB, the pan fried buns along with their walnut shrimp and wonton noodle (not pictured)! We also got their sweet and savory soy milk! Everything was so good and not overly sweet for the soy milk! I didn't have the wonton noodle but my friend mentioned that it was a tad bit too salty! Although it hasn't stopped them from going back as they been back at least once a week since!

Yelp
Honestly just a basic dumpling spot with typical dishes. They're selling a seasonal plate of 4 pumpkin black sesame buns for $8.99 -- these are a sweet dessert, with zero pumpkin flavor. Don't be fooled, unless you like black sesame anything. Their best dish is the salt and pepper fish fillet $16.99 and their skip is a toss up between the sichuan noodle in peanut sauce $13.99, which had absolutely no peanut taste at all and was all sesame paste or the potstickers $11.99 that are worst than the ones I have in my freezer from Costco. I was also not too impressed with the pan fried Shanghai pork buns. Mine lacked juicy soup. The XLBs were also pretty basic. There are 2 young folks working this entire restaurant that has 2 floors so the service was not very attentive. They're also trying to manage phone calls with takeout orders on top of 30 tables so it was hectic for them. Total bill was $98.78 and I was still hungry for more food. Check out my photos for prices of each dish we ordered

Yelp
My new go to neighborhood dumpling spot. Ordered the crab and pork XLB, eggplant with garlic sauce over rice and deep fried salt and pepper squid. For a party of two this was a good amount of food. I love how you can order a dish over rice so you get best of both worlds (carbs and a veggie). Deep fried salt and pepper squid was super crunchy and had just the right amount of salt and pepper. XLB juicy and soup inside the dumpling was flavorful. The skin was thin and steamed to the right temperature. I also got the soy milk and asked for no sugar. 10/10!!!

Yelp
Located along Noriega, there's usually plenty of parking, though it is mainly residential parking. Dumpling Bites offers Shanghainese food in the Sunset, and boasts a large variety. Overall, I would recommend for dinner if you're in the area but not a destination spot. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao, Sauteed String Bean, Mapo Tofu, Wonton in Chili Oil, Shanghai-Style Chow Mein, and Pan Fried Pork Bun. They were all decent, hitting all the right flavor notes but nothing unique or outstanding, but the one I was interested in the most (the sheng jian bao) was a bit of a let down. . Pan Fried Pork Bun: (3/5) Decent crispy bottom but not enough soup inside, and the breading was soggy as it was steamed a little too long. I think Dumpling Home does it better.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch with the wife. We shared the Shanghai steamed soup dumplings and the wonton noodle soup. Both were SO delicious and we were stuffed by the time we were done eating. There were a few open tables and we were able to get seated quickly. Service was fast, workers were nice, and the place was clean. Safe to say we'll be adding this restaurant to our list of go-to dumpling places! We'll definitely come back here again.

Yelp
Dumpling Bites is one of my new favorite dumpling spots in the sunset/even in SF! It's pretty affordable and the dumplings are made really well. I especially like their XLB/soup dumplings and SJB/pan fried baos. The XLBs have a super thin skin and are so satisfying to eat with the soup inside! (Just make sure to let them cool off first lol). Can't wait to come with more people so we can order more!
google avatar

Yelp
Dare I say Dumpling Home dupe? *Dumpling Home minus the outrageous wait, and in the lovely still fog of the Sunset neighborhood! We tried the shengjian bao (which reached the threshold of bouncy QQ, and bursting with soup), har gow and soup dumplings (solid), dry fried wings (wasn't expecting that to be here; perfect combo of Santung & Korean fried chicken style - sweet and sticky), cucumber salad (homey, refreshing, crisp), and five spice beef brisket noodle soup (insane pairing with the cold weather). Simply put, you'll be full and happy!

Yelp
This place!! Go here!! We have now eaten at Dumpling Bites 4 times and every time has been a wonderful experience with amazing food! Jason, the owner, is very friendly and remembers us every time we come to eat there. He and his staff work hard to make our dining experience one to remember. The restaurant itself is clean and modern. The food is always fresh and so flavorful. The dumplings are SO good! We like to try something new each time we go, but our favorites are the pan fried pork buns, the pork chive dumplings, the Shanghai chow mein, the chicken wings and the hot and sour soup. We live in Sonoma county and wish we had a Dumpling Bites near us. But we always look forward to going there when in SF.

Yelp
4.5/5 Dropped in for lunch ~1pm on Thursday. Aside from a couple tables, the place wasn't packed so we got seated quickly. What we ordered: - Spicy Thinly Sliced Pig Ear ~ Not as oily as other places have it, which was a plus! A great appetizer to start the table off. - Shanghai-style stir-fried Rice Cakes ~ Very homestyle. A little on the oily side. This dish needed chili oil which was provided at the table to help with flavor. - Abalone and pork steamed xiao long bao ~ This was the star of the show! A lot of soup dumplings are heavy and oily, but the broth of this one was lighter compared to others. Without the vinegar, the broth was refreshing and you can taste the sweetness of the abalone. I like my vinegar tart, but the vinegar provided here was on the lighter side. Dumplings weren't as heavy so it did not need the tartness of the vinegar to balance it out, therefore a lighter vinegar made sense. All in all, Pretty decent. Would return to try other items on the menu!

Yelp
Went for lunch today. Close to closing but they were so nice to serve us. We've tried many pan fried buns but the buns here are the best we've ever had. The waitstaff were nice. We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
I came here for lunch and ordered the original XLBs, a rice roll, and the wontons in chili oil. The original XLBs are amazing. There is so much soup and flavor when you bite into them. Be careful because the soup really bursts out. The rice roll was just okay. Wouldn't get it again. The wontons in chili oil were pretty good too. It's not as flavorful as the XLBs but definitely had a lot of filling to the wonton. It seems like only one person managing the customers so service is a bit slower but they're responsive when you wave them down

Yelp
We came to Dumpling Bites for a very late lunch on a Sunday afternoon and there were plenty of tables available. This restaurant is located on Noriega and 23rd in SF's Sunset District. The restaurant was clean with very high ceilings (there's a second floor). We ordered the pork xiao long bao ($13.99), crab and pork xiao long bao ($15.99), Shanghai rice cakes ($13.99), salt and pepper chicken wings ($16.99). The salt and pepper chicken wings were really tasty! The pork xiao long bao had 10 pieces and were really good. The crab and pork xlbs were pretty good too, but I couldn't taste much of the crab flavor so it might be better to just get the pork xlbs. The Shanghai rice cakes were perfect! The rice cakes had the right amount of chewiness and the cabbage and sliced pork were great. The vegetable dumplings were okay. Not the vegetarian's favorite. The waitress let us know that they were running a summer promotion - if you order over $50 worth of food, you can select a scratch card. We scratched a free drink and ordered the savory soy milk. The savory soy milk was just okay...I've definitely had much better, however, not many places sell this, so the fact that they sell it is pretty good. Our server was very nice, however, sometimes not very attentive to our table. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Dumpling Bites, especially the pork xiao long bao, salt and pepper chicken wings, and Shanghai rice cakes.

Yelp
Dumpling spot that hits the mark! Finally tried this place that got my attention. The pan fried dumplings to XLBs were well seasoned, crispy perfection on the potsticker crust, and juicy meat in the center. Noodles had the classic "wok hay" flavor, nicely salty, and chew noodles. The wings were bursting with deep brined taste. To top it off, the restaurant has great high ceilings which makes it very spacious, and the dining room feels fresh, clean, and comfortable.

Yelp
It was our first time here. There were four of us on a Friday afternoon around 12:45 pm. We had to wait (outside), but as busy as it was, I don't think we waited more than 10 minutes or so. They are pretty quick. The quickness continued even as we sat down. It was clear the staff was there with purpose - get everyone in, offer the seats, offer the menu, come right back, take the order, bring food quickly. They truly waste no time. I feel like I took longer to order than they wanted, but it was our first time and I really wanted to be thorough about what we were about to eat! lol (For the record, they weren't pushy, but I could tell they wanted to get moving along). The food overall was good. It came out fast and hot, The XLB was good. The Shanghai style noodles were a bit bland. We also got walnut prawns, hot and sour soup, salt and pepper chicken, and pan fried potstickers - all pretty good. This place is a good option in addition to Dumpling Kitchen nearby. I'm sure there's some competition being in the same neighborhood.

Yelp
Good homestyle food that came out piping hot. - XLB was nice and soupy - Chow mein noodles had a good chewy texture - Pan fried pork buns are on the doughy side and could be a little more crispy, but flavor was good - Fried green beans are always good (they ran out of pea sprouts this day) - Sweet soy milk was good, but not amazing - Salt and pepper wings were bomb! Service was a bit slow, but considering how busy it was, it's understandable. And they forgot to give us the scratch card when we paid - we won free dessert! Ordered the Beijing-Style Sweet Buns, but they gave it to us to-go and forgot to fry the buns, so we got steamed buns with condensed milk which wasn't as good. - 1 star for this, but will definitely be back!

Yelp
Very happy this area has become the dumpling heart of the city. Went to Dumpling Bites 2x in one week because I couldn't get enough. My favorite pan fried pork dumpling is still Dumpling Kitchen but this place makes a close second. The bottom of the pan fried dumplings are crispy and the inside pork is flavorful! Just with any of these dumplings - be careful because the juice will burn your mouth. I also tried the beef noodle soup (tip- you can ask for thin or thick noodle!). The first time they asked us but the second time they didn't and it defaulted to the thin noodle? Idk but I preferred the thicker one. Speaking of thick- had the onion pancakes which were thick but still pretty tasty?! I think the star at Dumpling Bites IMO was the fan tuan (Taiwanese sticky rice rolls). They were delicious and a must get. Really liked the decor of the restaurant and on a weekday lunch rush, it was filled with people but no wait. I think this place is still new and the word is still going around. I would recommend!

Yelp
If you're in the mood for canto food, this place is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're craving dumplings! I ordered a variety of dishes, including cucumber salad, beef chow mein, soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, and sweet buns. I visited during the summer, and they had a fantastic promotion where ordering over $50 or $60 allowed us to pick a card for a complimentary dessert--such a fun touch! The restaurant is spacious, with an upstairs area that I've never seen open, which adds to its charm. Overall, it's a great spot for delicious food and a lovely dining experience.

Yelp
My sister and mom tried Dumpling Bites two weeks ago and recommended their xiao loong bao (Shanghai soup dumpling). I was told the xiao loong bao was as fresh and tasty as Din Tai Fung. I came this week with my husband and toddler to try their xiao loong bao, boiled dumplings, Shanghai-style chow mein, and their Shanghai-style pan fried buns. The best thing here was really their xiao loong bao. It was very fresh and juicy like Din Tai Fung! It took about 10-15mins to make so it was definitely steaming hot when it came out! Highly recommend that since they were also larger compared to other restaurants that made the soup dumplings. My toddler and I both love dumplings, so we definitely had a bigger expectation for restaurants that served dumplings. Surprisingly, the pork and chives boiled dumplings were only ok. We tried the Dumpling Specialist on Taraval a week prior and I actually liked their dumplings more since it was flavorful. This one was a bit bland for my taste. Even my toddler did not really eat his but he ate a lot of dumplings at the other location. The Shanghai pan fried buns were juicy but needed a bit more flavor. I personally liked Dumpling Kitchen's Shanghai pan fried bun on Taraval St, but of course, none of these places could compare to Shanghai or Taiwan. However, Dumpling Kitchen was the best ones we had in the city. The Shanghai chow mein was standard. Prices were slightly cheaper than other dumpling spots in the sunset district. The restaurant was emptied the night we came but I overheard the worker talking to another customer in Cantonese that they were so busy during the day time. That same customer already came here three times and the restaurant only opened for four months. The restaurant was modern looking and clean. The lady staff was very attentive and nice. She even packed up the food for us. Very good customer services for a dumpling place that usually would not pack food for customers. She even asked if we wanted to order xiao loong bao and the Shanghai pan fried buns so she could place the order for us first since those two items took 10-15mins to make. In addition, the lady got us plastic utensils and even a plastic bowl so our son could use it as his serving plate. Would definitely come back for their xiao loong bao and great customer services!

Yelp
The restaurant was super busy on a Saturday, but we were seated quickly. We ordered xiao long bao, Shanghai style stir-fried rice cake, sticky rice rolls, and sweet and sour chicken. I loved the rice cake. It was so flavorful, chewy and not too soggy. The xiao long bao was juicy, and but some of them were broken when we got it, and the soup already leaked out. The rice rolls didn't have much flavor, so I would skip it. The sweet and sour chicken was tender. You really can't go wrong with this dish.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Wednesday night and it was a busy evening. The restaurant was well lit, clean, and had high ceilings with a second floor loft with additional space (perfect for larger parties). We walked in to a full restaurant where we waited for about 15 minutes. Our family ordered the following: 1.) Shanghai Pan Fried Buns 2.) XLBs 3.) Shanghai stir fried rice cakes 4.) Five spice beef noodle soup 5.) Rice roll 6.) Red bean pancake Everything came out piping hot and super fresh. We wanted to order the sweet soy milk but it was already sold out. Our family's favorites were the Shanghai pan fried buns, XLBs, stir fried rice cakes, and the red bean pancakes. The rice roll was decent, but could use a bit more pork floss (yuk sung) filling. My MIL was not a fan of the preserved veggies as they were too salty. All in all it's a decent rice roll with the traditional fried cruller center. The pan fried buns were the perfect combo of fluffy bao and crispy texture from the pan sear. These were generous portions and filled with a solid amount of soup. The XLBs were quite large and juicy. They were flavorful and filled with soup. The stir fried rice cakes were perfectly cooked and sauced. Our little one loved the bouncy chew. The portion size was perfect. The five spice beef noodle soup came in two options (thick/thin cut) and had a decent amount of noodles and seasoned beef, but the soup itself was a bit salty. We wrapped up dinner with something sweet and tried their red bean pancake. They were crispy, slightly chewy, and filled with a very smooth red bean paste. Everyone left satisfied. We will definitely be back for another visit.

Yelp
DATE & TIME: Mon Jan 8, 2024 @ 12:00 PM LAYOUT: two-level restaurant that's spacious, clean, and bright SERVICE: quick friendly service, surprisingly not rude! FOOD: xiao long bao XLB (10 pc); pork and preserved vegetable rice cakes; pan-fried broccoli beef; rice balls dessert PARKING: metered street parking in front, residential parking surrounding With so many dumpling restaurants in SF, I feel like they're all starting to sound the same as they all have "dumpling" in their name, ie: dumpling house, home, zone, story, park, kitchen, and now story. It's starting to get confusing and annoying. However, what I enjoyed about Dumpling Bites is their VERY juicy XLBs. There was so much flavorful broth flowing onto my spoon and a delicious pork meat encased perfectly in the thin skin that didn't tear. And for $13.99 (currently) for 10 pieces, it's a relatively good deal compared to other XLB places! The pork and preserved vegetable rice cakes dish was good, consisting of plain chewy rice cakes, mildly tart preserved greens, and good slivers of pork. Overall tasty dish, yet not greasy. The pan-fried broccoli beef dish was a little greasier, but delicious. The beef was flavorful and the vibrant green broccoli were perfectly cooked with still a crunch. As with most Asian desserts, the rice balls dessert wasn't too sweet, consisting of 3 sesame filling and 3 red bean filling encased in rice flour and rolled in desiccated coconut. A little on the dry side though. Overall, very positive dining experience at Dumpling Bites. Great food, great (clean) restaurant. I'd return!

Yelp
This place not only has the best XLB and pan-fried buns we've ever tasted but also they have a very helpful and accommodating waitstaff. We arrived shortly before their closing time for lunch. The manager, Jason, took our order and was so helpful in recommending their specialties. Everything sounded so good that we over ordered!! Not a problem as now we have leftovers! Every dish was delicious! XLB thin skin and juicy filling! Pan-fried pork buns done just right... tender but crispy on the bottom. String beans crispy and perfectly seasoned. We will be back! A shout out to Jason for being so helpful and friendly!!!

Yelp
Came here for a casual Saturday lunch. Place was full of patrons but we got seated rather quickly. Place looks newly remodeled, clean and comfortable. Servers were attentive, helpful and polite. Prices are reasonable. Quantity and quality of food is quite good. Every dish was flavorful, hot and pleasing to both the eyes and the palette. Bathrooms were clean, dry, and supplies were plentiful. Do recommend and I will be back.

Yelp
Take my review with a grain of salt. To get 5 stars from me, it's a place that has a memorable dish, does something really well, or somewhere I'd want to come back over and over again. Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 (came at 10pm) Value: 3.5/5 - is comparable to other dumpling places in the bay but some dishes were pricier than expected Ambiance: Casual, but more modern of a Chinese restaurant Dishes were good and comparable to other dumpling places in the bay, but nothing stood out to me as "wow!". I did really enjoy the soy milk though. Perfectly sweet (lighter) and a good soy taste.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this dumpling spot while visiting, and I'm so glad I did--it's truly a hidden gem! The restaurant was slightly busy when I arrived, but I was seated relatively quickly. The service was fast and attentive, which made the experience even better. There is also a second floor but was not occupied during my visit. Pan-Fried Pork Buns and Xiao Long Bao (XLBs): Probably some of the best I've had in a while--crispy, juicy, and generously filled! recall Wontons in Chili Oil: Perfectly spiced and flavorful. Dry-Fried Wings: Crispy, savory, with a slight kick Gua Bao (Chinese Tacos?): A surprising highlight! Packed with flavor, perfectly sized, and had a delightful twist I didn't expect. I'll be returning next time I'm in the area. Highly recommend this spot to any dumpling lover!

Yelp
Love coming here! This place has quickly become one of my family's go to restaurants for take out! We love their soup dumplings, peanut noodles, black bean noodles, rice cakes, and eggplant.

Yelp
The food: - XLB is good! One order of the regular Shanghai dumplings comes in 10, which is a decent amount. - Many Yelpers like the garlic pea sprouts. While flavors were good, the pea sprouts today were a bit old and too fibrous. - Roast squab was luke warm with almost no flavors. I'd skip next time. - Sizzling rice soup was decent, and rice certainly sizzled when adding to the soup! The soup had some pork and chicken slices and chopped bok choy in it. - Vegetarian goose appetizer was fine, likely store-bought and cut in thin slices to serve. Service was ok. Pricing was decent, akin to other places in the neighborhood; our total w/tip came out to ~$103 for the three of us.

Yelp
My go to soup dumpling in the city. Why is it a 4 star instead of 5, please it is not always consistent with the same items we order. Not like it's bad but sometimes consistent is better. I still love this place. I recommend the soup dumplings of course, the original pork ones. I also recommended the pan fried pot-stickers, as well the shanghai style noodles and rice cakes. Love their salt and pepper fish and tofu. My friend comes here like once a month and I wouldn't mind if we come more often. The staff is always friendly. High ceilings and the restaurant is really big.

Yelp
Amazing XLB, crab+pork XLB and other dumplings!! Friendly and prompt service. Also get the rice rolls! My only constructive criticism is bigger soup spoons (worth +1) to hold all of the XLB juice and more fresh ginger with the XLB!!

Yelp
I would say the interior is modern, so bright and airy. I do feel that their service is slow, so there is a wait time. Their cucumber salad is okay, it was room temperature and it was missing some acidity. Their ham and choy rice claypot was so good, it had the flavor from the wok and the perfect amount of saltiness. Their napa cabbage steamed dumplings were perfect skin to filling ratio. We also ordered their string beans, it was a little hard for my liking but the flavor was there. Finally, we got the five spice beef noodle soup. The meat was tender and the broth was amazing. It came with skinny noodles, which were fine but I do prefer a thick ho fun.

Yelp
Update: After revisiting this restaurant nearly a 1/2 dozen times, I have to say, they're consistent in bringing out great food and portions! Never disappointed and always satisfied after eating here. We enjoy their XLBs, pan fried dumplings and baos because they're juicy and delicious! Definitely deserves a spot on our rotation.

Yelp
Came by on a weekday night for dinner and was pleasantly surprised! Staff was nice, pretty quick. You get to marker what you want on the menu and give to the staff to place order. For a table of 3 we definitely over ordered! House Pork Special Soup Dumplings 5/5 - Really big dumplings ! Filled with a lot of soup and quite meaty. Definitely get what you pay for, would highly recommend. I definitely want to try the other flavors too! Pork and chive dumplings/ pan fried dumplings 5/5 We got the same flavor but for dumpling version and pan fried version. I personally like the regular dumpling more, lots of filling to dumpling wrapper ratio. However my mom really loved the crispy pan fried ones! Salt and pepper chicken wings 4/5 Solid salt and pepper chicken wings, not the best i've had but they're still really good! Juicy flavorful wings, i think a bit on the too saltier side Clay Pot rice 4/5 A real clay pot rice! The rice on the bottom was crispy and flavorful, had pork and bok choy within the rice. Really good, only thing that deters it away from a 5/5 would be i wish there were a bit more full slices of pork, there were only 4 pieces, but it was still great nonetheless The beef noodle soup 3/5 The soup was okay, some of the meat was tender but the noodles were definitely a bit over cooked. I enjoyed it, but my mom certainly thought it was lacking Overall i'd come back again! Really solid dumpling spot, i hope the quality stays the same or gets even better! Will be back soon

Yelp
9/10! went here for lunch in a party for 4, the service was quite attentive and nice. the dining area was unassuming spacious and although we were seated by the door, there were stairs leading up to what seemed to be extra dining space on an elevated loft area. felt very modern, which was a nice contrast from the usual small business vibe and feel of most restaurants along Noriega. it was also fairly priced per person as well (about $21 per person for everything we ordered as pictured in this review). i'd come back for dinner to try the rice dishes or noodles!

Yelp
Expectations seems to be a little high for some people, but honestly I thought this place hit alot of marks considering what you get these days for eating out. We ordered the XLB and dry beef chow fun and both were delicious. Prices were reasonable, service was good, restaurant was clean. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Dumpling Bites took over the empty space of what used to be the old Hing Lung. We ordered a little of everything to try as we had 9 people in our party. Speaking of which, they won't have the typical large tables of a Chinese restaurant and only have seating for two or fours on square tables. They connect two square tables and we just passed food around. Decor was modern, very clean as befitting a new restaurant. Definitely get the Xiao Long Bao. Paper thin skin bursting with juices. Restaurant also provided julienne ginger for everyone. Other items was are good was the five spice beef brisket noodle soup, salt and pepper chicken wings, dry braised string beans, and fried green onion pancake. Yes it's fried and not pan seared but it's really good with an airy texture and crispy exterior.

Yelp
My husband and I came in after our 5 miles walk for a quick lunch. Ordered the Shanghai pork dumpling, Shanghai pan fried dumplings, beef skewer and beef noodle soup. Everything is flavorful and served hot. Price is reasonable as well. Love it

Yelp
Pretty meh. Generally under-salted. Decent soup dumplings (small, weak flavor) and pan fried soup dumplings (too doughy). Black bean sauce noodles didn't have a single black bean, I checked. Green beans were alright. Also we got a free beverage
