Food was pretty good. The scallion pancakes were delicious and the beef hotpot was also very good. The portion of hotpot was huge! One person definitely cannot eat this much food. Also, even the minimally spicy option is very spicy.

Google
A few things to mention, 20% tip were mandatory but there is very little service, the whole time waitress was not showing up, only except when they bring up the food, and they charge for the go box. The young lady is not patient and giving you an attitude. The soup it’s ok, but the rice is not fully cooked hard and dry. Spend Jan 3th in DC, not the place I want to come back again. In the end, does it looks like $160.00 kinda food? Definitely overpriced.

I’ve been here for dine in and pick up, and both experiences were great! The spring rolls are SOOO good - hot and crispy. The seaweed salad is delicious (and not spicy thankfully). The shrimp wonton soup was amazing (never had that before)… but the sesame chicken was the best sesame chicken I’ve ever had in my life! This is definitely a new fav spot!

Google
The food was great! We went for a late night dinner, and the bar crowd was out, so not really a time I personally would go to dine in again. Take out or delivery at that time, yes. You order from a tablet at your table, which is fine. However, if you have questions about a specific meal, you have to press a button on the tablet and wait for the server to appear to get your answer. I'm guessing lunch and normal dinner time would be a better experience, so that is why I'm giving this 4 stars.

Google
Loved the good and experience! Authentic Shang Hai atmosphere. Definitely recommend the veggie hot pot

Google
So, I ordered the soup and a “sweet curry chicken” over rice. What came out looked absolutely nothing like the photo; it was basically a different dish with effectively no actual sweet potato, fried cutlet rather than stewed chicken, and probably the saltiest “sweet” curry I’ve ever tasted. Whatever, recipes change, but the curry is also terrible and over salted. And the waiter points to the photo in the menu right in front of me and says, no that’s fried chicken there, this is the dish you ordered. You tell me… TLDR overpriced, meh

This new pan Asian dumpling and hot pot place @dumplingshotpotbeyond is a fun place to get together. They have tables and booths, and soon they will have a different layout to include a bar. The place is a bit hard to see as the most obvious signage is “Asian street food” but the giant FDC next to the front door makes it easier to find. Up in the second floor window is a drum set and other musical instruments. They plan to make this part of the party. The food is dim sum and hot pots. You order in a tablet. Ryan, who looks like the last movie incarnation of Elvis, is the only server and he manages everything like a rockstar. The kitchen is open and the staff in there are rolling with it. The food is good but fused for the American palate. I can see this becoming a chain restaurant like Cheesecake Factory or Fridays. They have no liquor license so get juiced on milk tea or Vietnamese coffee. The best thing about this place is the potential for a good time. They may have karaoke and trivia and “beyond” in the future. It’s a fun time. And inexpensive. $30 per person for a group of eight.

Google
$75.00 what a waste of money. Dumplings was good. That’s the worth the money. Lomein had absolutely no flavor. Taste like noodles and water. Holy moly. Not even the beef of the lomein almost like everything was boiled.. portion sizes are super small for the amount of money they are charging on top of that. I thought I was gonna have some amazing food.. Fried rice, again absolutely no flavor in the rice.

Yelp
food and the service were tooooo good, 10/10 recommend if you're in the area and want some solid meal. I recommend the chicken konkatsu or the fried boa buns. They are to die for!! The vibes and ambiance were fire too

Yelp
The service and food was so amazing, as someone with celiac it's hard to find good gluten free Chinese/asian food and this was some of the best I've had. The staff was so kind and helpful with making sure everything I ordered was GF. The vibe and ambiance was incredible and created such a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely coming back from California!

Yelp
Very authentic Chinese food but minimal attention spent on interior space. Service is nonexistent, you have to go up to the counter to ask for anything. We ate lunch here on a Saturday and oddly we were the only diners in the restaurant. The booths are a little dirty and rundown along with the rest of the restaurant. Food is delicious and very authentic. Would return for takeout but wouldn't return for the dining experience .

Yelp
This review is a solid 3.5. Came here during Thanksgiving weekend to change my palate with my family. We have come here before, nearly a year ago, and had a great experience. Unfortunately so much has changed since then: the original decor has changed to something more urban and traditional. Almost all orders were take-outs. We were the only folks in the dining area. We ordered many dishes from fried dumplings, shui zhu niu rou, liang pi, Mongolian beef, and fried eggplants. The star of the dining experience was liang pi, followed by fried eggplants, and Mongolian beef. However the shui zhu niu rou lacked the depth of mala spice and texture that I'm used to. The portions also came out much smaller, and the rice grain was not as good as it used to be. The grains were very grainy - we asked the server for a fresh bowl of rice but it just seems like their rice distributor or rice quality isn't up to par. Otherwise, I would love to support this business but something has got to change with the portions and ambiance. I hope the owners take this feedback seriously, whether it is doing happy hour specials or changing the rice type... wishing them the best. Again don't sleep on the liang pi!

Yelp
I was looking for a hot pot place and when looking through yelp pictures, everything looked really good and who can resist dim sum. Service was good. You pick your food off an iPad system and place an order directly. However, the dim sum feels overpriced. A baked BBq bun was 2 for $9.99!? They're usually $6 for 3 in other Chinese restaurants. Into the main reason I was here was for the hotpot. It was good but I expected something different. It was more a casserole than a hot pot bc it did not have the fire. Also there were only 3 different broth bases to choose from and the ingredients were already in the casserole. Northern Chinese style I suppose. The scallion pancakes were good but not enough scallions and oily.

Yelp
Wow this place is absolutely amaazing! I came here tonight with my friend and we got sooo many things! What we got: - DAN DAN NOODLES: absolutely amazing if calories were not a thing would have def ate more! we literally got two orders of it! - Chicken dumplings that came with a dumpling sauce! they were also good, the dumplings were cooked just right and were just the right kind of warmness i am super particular about this for no reason! - eggplant garlic- THIS WAS REALLY GOOD however, this could have been a bit more spicier, i will ask for it spicier next time around! - Edamame - these were good too!! :) i am not a huge edamame fan in general so i did not really eat much of this! - Spicy garlic cold wide rice noodle - SOO GOOODDDD WOW!! we mixed with chili oil and DAMN the service was amazing! the guy was super accomodating I felt bad that I kept asking for more and more to go containers but he was extremely accomodating and nice about it! the place itself was really clean and it was a standard restaraunt! they will be serving more alcohol there in the future but was not there when we went (my friend was excited about that!) I WILL DEFFFFF BE BACK!!! :) i was looking for a chiense place jsut like this!!! it think i manifested it!!

Yelp
I don't know how long this place has been around, and I hope it's not long, or else I've missed it for the multiple years I've been living in the area! But either way, my friend and I decided to try it this last weekend and had a great time! When you walk in, there isn't a host stand or anything, so you can go over to the window where you can pick up food for takeout and someone will seat you. They then do ordering via tablet, which is super convenient, so you can add things to your order or ask to pay without having to flag down the server. My friend and I got the beef hot pot and each wanted to try some appetizers. I got the homemade barbecued pork buns, which were so fluffy and flavorful! I wish there were more filling in the buns, but they were very yummy. My friend got the homemade soup dumplings and they were delicious! My friend said they are the best ones she'd had in a long time and was happy that there was so much soup in each dumpling. The hot pot we got was very good, and a huge portion. We got the "slightly spicy" option (options were slightly spicy, medium spicy, or extremely spicy) and I will say it was still plenty hot, so be careful ordering if you have a low spice tolerance. The noodles were amazing and there was a good amount of beef. There were tons of veggies and tofu in the hotpot also, which was nice, but there was so much we didn't end up finishing it. Overall, really good and I'd like to come back to try more of the menu (being aware of their high spice level!)

Yelp
Walked into this place at random and found out they had GLUTEN FREE orange chicken, general Tsos chicken and sesame chicken. He said there were ways to make other meals like the dry pot gluten free too. It's very cute inside with neon lights and just very aesthetic. The service for air in was good. We also got some of the coffees as well. I would go back for the gluten free Chinese alone.

Yelp
Another 5 star review - I am still working my way through the menu and tonight I picked up dishes to try: tomato egg drop soup, rice noodles in spicy vinegar sauce, and dan dan noodles. When I place orders through their website/platform, my food is always ready early, the business is clean and well-organized. I am also consistently impressed by the careful packaging/wrapping. Even after a 30 minute walk home, my soup was hot and not a drop spilled. I recommend all the dishes, and go spicy!

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic, warm your soul food Chinese food Dumpling Hot Pot Beyond is your spot. We came for the dry hot pot but ended up leaving with so many other favorites. Recommend getting the spicy wontons to start then pairing noodles with peanut sauce with the dry hot pot to give you a refreshing pallet cleanse between the tingling sensation of the hot pot. Took my sister who has a gluten allergy and she LOVED the stir fried pepper chicken. Service is easy as you sit and order off a tablet and have rotating servers bringing food out. They have a bigger interior than some other spots on H street in case you have a larger party. The pictures of some dishes looks bigger than that is delivered (noodles with peanut sauce) so don't be afraid to order a few other items to fill up!

Yelp
Food: Scallion pancakes -Authentic and flaky! Spring rolls- Great! Shrimp and Broccoli- Great! Better than the rest! Bok Choy: Executed perfectly This new establishment didn't disappoint at all. The owner Ryan was our server and made sure the experience was top notch! Service was great and they made sure all of our dishes were served prompt and hot! They kept our water glasses full and overall I was completely satisfied. I have no complaints and would highly recommend you try for yourself!

Yelp
I was looking forward to hot pot and Chinese food. I did not realize H Street had a hot pot restaurant. My wife and I were the only patrons in the dining room. A Miley Cyrus song must have been on repeat since the same song played for 45 minutes until I notified the owner. He did find a new song but it was a song from the Police that played repeatedly for another 45 minutes. It took over 35 minutes to get our food, which was ok. A 20% service fee is automatically added to the order. Service was poor. I was never asked for a drink refill or if our food was good. I was never asked if we wanted dessert. Everyone in the kitchen was busy on their phones. I don't recommend it!

Yelp
A fun addition to the end of H Street. I'm always down for more options for Chinese food, and this hits maybe the same level as Dumplings and Beyond on the other side of the diamond. Was a bit surprised because the decor looked almost too neat and clean for me, even with the fancy iPad, but the flavors are there. Seems to have a healthy mix of options from dim sum, dumplings, Szechuan style hot pots. I believe the dumplings are made in house too which is nice. Overall what I had was decent. Only dish I wasn't really a fan of was the Mano tofu, was kind of all oil no real flavor for me. It's a bit outside my preferred price point, but everything was cooked well and came out relatively quickly and steaming hot. Definitely an option if I need of change of pace on H Street. But the search for my fave Chinese spot is still ongoing.

Yelp
Sooooo we stopped by here to grab a snack before we went to the restaurant we had a reservation for. We had no clue what to expect but everything we ordered was pretty good. We ordered the Vegetarian steamed dumplings (my friend said that the vegetarian dumplings needed mushrooms), Baked BBQ Bao and Pork Soup Dumplings. Everything was good. We were tempted to stay here because everything was so good as you can see we finished eating before I remembered to take pictures of what we ordered. I found out that it's a new place that opened a month ago but the service was ok and the ambiance was chill. Note it's self service. So basically it's a tablet and they just bring you your food. No real waiter but we didn't mind.
google avatar

Suzie Z.

Yelp
Cute Chinese interior that feels like I was transposed back to China. The dim sum is pretty average and if I would really have to pick one spot in DC, I'd still choose Han palace over this place. Portions are rather small but happy to patronize again to try out its dry hot pot.
google avatar

Yelp
We were excited to see a new hot pot place on H Street! However, this place does not have many hot pot options and is more of your typical Chinese restaurant. The dumpling options are fairly limited too. They have a good ordering system and helpful service. However most of the items we ordered were very small for the price. The place also feels a bit old for a new place. Looks like they might have a private space / banquet room.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
The plates were small even though the pictures made it look big. The only good dishes were the braised pork belly and the seafood and beef combo. The curry was lacking in flavor. Sorry but I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Linna L.

Yelp
Overpriced and does not taste good. First time came here and very disappointed. My friend order a cold rice noodle & peanut sauce. The picture showed it was on a plate and for the size of an entree. But when they actually served the food, it was in a small tiny bowl, palm size similar to the glass of water. And they charged for $10+!!!! The rice noodle didn't taste stale but not authentic either. I ordered a custard bun and curry chicken. The custard was salty but also have undissolved sugar in there. I don't know if it is because they didn't heat it well enough or it was just too much sugar in there. My friend saw them opening the package of the buns, so I don't believe they make their buns, which also is very disappointing. Why would I go to a restaurant to eat something that I could buy prepackaged at a supermarket? The curry chicken also didn't have much of the curry flavor and very salty. Last thing, when we expressed our concern about the size of the noddle dish, the server said he would notify the staff, but there was no end result or any feedback at all before we left. I don't think they cared....

Yelp
Wayyyyyy toooooo littleeeeeee food!!! The food below costs almost 33$. I wish i could give 0 star!
google avatar

Madison B.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant on H Street! If you go, you MUST try the black and gold buns (for an appetizer or dessert). I want these at my next birthday, at my wedding... any excuse to get more of these into my belly! Additionally, my partner and I had an order of beef dumplings, scallion pancake, and a dry hot pot. I hadn't tried a dry pot before, but it was a lovely array of veggies and meat with the PERFECT amount of sichuan pepper to make my tongue tingle. I definitely recommend a dry pot if you haven't tried one before. On a hot summer day, I didn't think I could do a traditional hot pot, despite how amazing the broth would taste.

Yelp
Yikes!. This is one of those places that my friend wanted to try so we did. The only thing we got here were dumplings and that was enough. This was mostly breading and very little filling. The dumpling themselves literally tasted like Wonder bread. The stuffing was okay but very very scanty not even a teaspoon worth of pork was in it. I also have a strong dislike for their service. Basically it is self-serve at your table with a tablet and minimalistic. I think the prices are pretty exorbitant given the lack of service. If I have to be doing all that work myself then I should get a discount.

Sepanta B.

Yelp
Love these guys! Authentic Sichuan, amazing dim sum and wonderful people! A family favorite.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic in every way! I am in town for a conference with my teen granddaughter and we stumbled upon this gem! We are midway through our stay in DC and we are very likely to come again before we go home. Loved everything about the place! Everything we ate was amazing and service was spot on! If I lived closer, they'd see me at least weekly! Yum!

Chase K.

Yelp
Food is stellar. I had an array of dishes and each were as good as the last. Service is quick and they are very friendly. Nice little restaurant with fun music playing.

Yelp
This new establishment on H Street is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. Their extensive menu showcases a delightful array of authentic Szechuan cuisine, tantalizing hot pot options, delectable dumplings, and a wonderful selection of Chinese classics.

Prnl 7.

Yelp
incredible variety and quality of authentic Chinese cuisine. Soup dumplings are great. Fried pork bao also great

Yelp
I am so excited. I have been whining that we have not one good Chinese restaurant in this City. No more. Dumpling hot pot is the real deal. To start, we had house made beef dumplings which were tremendous. We also had the bao, which can compete with Maketto. That's high praise from me. I ordered the eggplant, so sweet and delicious. Riche had the farmhouse pork--tiny bit hot, but perfect for me. Keep the water coming. Waiter Ryan was very kind and welcoming. No leftovers! Only question is when can we go again? You see I got take out from there last night. A very nice chicken lo mein. Can't wait.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
My friend and I should have thought to turn around when she ordered tea and instead of being presented with a pot of Chinese jasmine tea got a tea box with bags that included flavors like vanilla chai and salted caramel! (Salted caramel tea, wtf?!). Anyway, we ordered the chili crispy chicken, an eggplant stir fry and Shanghai soup buns. The buns were pictured as coming as a set of 8 in their menu...we got two. (And they were the best part of the meal!). The eggplant was mediocre at best, but relatively edible. But the "chicken"? I'm not convinced there was any chicken hidden beneath the mess of coated breading. Now, if you had told me it was battered fish, I might not have been so grossed out--as that's what the texture inside was like! We also had to pay $3.50 each for a bowl of lackluster rice. I could tell pretty quickly it would be a mistake to eat too much of it...my friend made the mistake of eating too much and got an upset stomach. I can't speak much for the Dumplings or the Hotpot, because what we only got to try their Beyond...which was beyond gross!

Grace R.

Yelp
OMG! Super good! Server is nice and very informative. Been at least 5 times and always bring guests. Hot pot in broth is the best thing on the menu although there are many close seconds. Soup dumplings also delish!

Charly S.

Yelp
We have been here a few times and we love it. Right on H street this is the perfect spot to get hot pot and dumplings. The staff is very friendly and the food is fantastic. Service is fast and it has a good ambiance. Often large groups of family and friends eat here, they have high chairs. We will be back!

Kai P.

Yelp
Service was fantastic. Food was very good. The whole family enjoyed. We stopped in after the cherry blossom festival and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere.

Lluisa G.

Yelp
What a great addition to H St! The food was excellent. The dim sum dishes (soup dumplings, steamed dumplings and veggie wontons in scallion sauce) were among the best we've had. The chicken in garlic sauce had clearly fresh ingredients and lots of mushrooms (which is hard to find) and was a very generous portion (a little too sweet for my taste). The service was quick and friendly. It was toward the end of the evening so the place was not packed but the atmosphere was very nice --hopefully the addition of a bar upstairs will not turn the vibe into that of a loud bar (enough of those on H already). My only wish would have been for more interesting teas: Rather than giving you the traditional pot of tea, you pick your own flavor of Bigelow tea bag (Earl Grey,Peppermint, Green tea, etc.), which at $7 seemed ridiculously expensive for a *single* cup of tea.
google avatar

Danette T.

Yelp
Food, and service was great! The house special dumplings with pork, shrimp and egg was spectacular.

Kitty L.

Yelp
Really great authentic tasting Chinese food Service is efficient Also amazing that there's an elderly head chef overseeing progress in the kitchen in the back

Sandy J.

Yelp
Finally!!! Schezwan pepper dishes that you can really taste the numbing/tingling pepper. So many places say they have schezwan pepper dishes, but this one actually delivers. We ordered extremely spicy and it was exactly what we wanted. You can see the peppercorns in the stir fried pepper chicken, and the chicken was juicy and delicious. Definitely some of the best I've had outside of china. Their soup dumplings (Xiao long bao) were great. Service was super friendly, attentive (especially liked the touchscreen to call them). The ambiance was very chill and modern. We definitely plan on coming again for dimsum.

Juliana D.

Yelp
Love the delivery but we finally went in person and it is WAY better. Terrific service, kid-friendly.

Carlos C.

Yelp
SO GOOD, waiter was nice, food was so good i literally ate till my stomach was full and hurt. Service was great and fast. The general scenery is pretty plain and simple. Not many very decorations but the waiter told me they're adding a bar upstairs!

Rohini B.

Yelp
Delicious addition to H street!! Went for lunch and got the soup dumplings, cumin chicken and lo mein. It was made fresh to order and was SO good that we licked our plates clean. Excited to try the hot pot once the weather gets cooler.

Molly M.

Yelp
We had a delicious dinner at Dumpling Hot Pot! The dry pot dishes are well seasoned, generously sized, and come with a nice variety of veggies. The ordering system is efficient and our food came out quickly. There are lots of other things on the menu that I'm eager to try and haven't seen in many other Chinese places in DC, so we'll definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Molly H.

Yelp
We had a great dinner here! The kiosk ordering was simple- the pictures were great and we loved the option to call a staff member with any questions. Our waiter checked in frequently and was very attentive despite having a lot of tables to watch over. Food wise, we got the fried teriyaki chicken dumplings, the scallion pancake, the signature salad and the sesame chicken. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful and the homemade side sauces were fantastic. Our taro tea was also delicious. We will definitely be back!

Samuel V.

Yelp
Our new "go to" for tasty Chinese food in DC. Dishes, especially dumplings, are well prepared. Service is courteous and kind. Capitol Hill is indeed fortunate to have this restaurant.

Mikayla C.

Yelp
We tried this place for lunch while I was visiting from out of town and I wish I was from this area! I'd definitely make this place a regular dining location. We ordered scallion pancakes, sesame balls, and chicken hot pot. The chef was so nice and was able to accommodate my friend's dietary restrictions and made us a chicken dish even though it wasn't on the menu. The wait staff was very personable and professional. The decor made the space feel very comforting and we especially liked being able to look into the kitchen while seated. Give this place a try!

Eileen L.

Yelp
Our experience here was beyond magical!! As a Chinese American raised on good Hot Pot, this did not disappoint. 10/10 service; the employees and managers are so warm and welcoming & honestly remind me of family. Stunning interior and exquisite selection. For sure a gem of this city. veryyy excited to eat here again!!!

Yelp
Happened to be visiting DC during the 4th of July and saw this restaurant just opened. Truly delicious food with an even more phenomenal staff!

Yvonne W.

Yelp
Service was terrible I was the first person there and almost last to eat they only brought out half of our meal and forgot about the rest we ended up taking the food to go and did not leave a tip

Addy Y.

Yelp
I've come here twice in the past two days and it was the best Asian food I've ever had. So many options and everything was good! Service was great and beautiful restaurant.

Fawn M.

Yelp
Food was ok but didn't realize that they charge $1 for every Togo container. Overpriced for the amount of food given

Payton A.

Yelp
They don't actually do hot pot at this restaurant. It's just an ordinary restaurant where they prepare the food in the kitchen. You don't actually get a hot pot on the table like a traditional hot pot restaurant. Very misleading name.
