The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Walnut Creek | Eater SF

"Dumpling Hours is slowly expanding throughout the East Bay, with locations in Oakland and Brentwood, but that doesn’t make this restaurant’s xiao long bao any less exciting. Order XLBs for the table, but also tack on the restaurant’s crispy-bottomed, pan-fried pork buns and ginger-scallion noodles. The spicy beef brisket noodle soup is a hearty addition to the meal, amidst all the dumplings." - Dianne de Guzman

The Best Chinese Restaurants in the East Bay | Eater SF

"Dumpling Hours is the sister restaurant of San Francisco’s Dumpling Home, which earned a place in Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list back in September 2021. The pork xiao long bao is a popular item, as are the pan-fried pork buns, but it’s worth branching out to the shop’s non-dumpling dishes, such as the beef brisket soup noodles or the dry fried chicken wings. There’s a second location in Oakland." - Dianne de Guzman

My son recommended this place, and I’m sorry I waited so long! We ordered so much food they had to move us from a 2-top to a 4-top just to accommodate! We took a lot of leftovers, but there’s not one dish I would have removed from our order. Everything was felt, you could taste the various flavors of dumplings, the noodles were amazing and not “too saucy”, you could really taste the noodle. I HIGHLY recommend- and, the prices are incredible.

Best Xiao Long Bao in the Bay Area and beyond. Juicy and flavorful. The skin held up well with the chopsticks “wiggle” test. Pan-fried pork buns were equally amazing with very hot soup inside. Great wok fire for the string beans, slightly crispy outside and tender inside. The boiled shrimp chive pork dumplings were also very tasty and chewy wrapping texture outside. The spicy sesame wontons were mouth watering. I loved the sauce so much I told the server to let me savor the sauce in the empty dish. I have visited multiple Ding Tai Fung locations and supreme dumplings for their XLB but I kept coming back to Dumpling Hour Walnut Creek for more. This place has the most consistent quality for XLB. There were few staff serving a full house and delivered excellent customer service. They kept up with clearing the table with empty bamboo steamers and dishes while refilling water in our glasses. Ordering was a breeze using the qr code on the table. Food came out fast enough for a very busy evening. Every table was filled around 6 pm Thursday night, including outdoor seatings. I was so sad that the jelly fish appetizer sold out today. Not the first time and won’t be the last. Best to go early before the lunch crowd if I can help it.

After a neighbor served up delicious food from Dumpling Hours earlier this week we had to try it for ourselves! The food did not disappoint! The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was pretty mild...The Beef was very tender. The String Beans sauteed in Garlic Sauce was fantastic!

Google
This was our first time in Martinez and Dumpling Hours caught my eye. I’m so glad it did because the food was absolutely amazing!!! Omg I can’t talk highly enough about the ginger scallion noodles and the string beans sautéed with garlic. It was seriously the best thing we’ve ever had! Definitely recommend and will come back !!

Google
The food was excellent, the Juicy Pan-fried Pork Buns were great and very hot (temp). The garlic noodles were also delicious. We were there for the food not the atmosphere.

At first glance, the dumpling house may seem small in size, but it packs a powerful punch when it comes to flavor. Nestled in its cozy confines, you'll find yourself transported to a culinary paradise where every bite is a delight. Served in traditional containers, the dumplings are a true work of art, each one bursting with savory goodness that leaves you craving more. What sets this dumpling house apart is its unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity. From the perfectly steamed wrappers to the mouthwatering fillings, every aspect of the dumplings is crafted with care and precision. And once you start eating, you simply can't stop – they're that delicious. While the space may be small, the flavors are anything but. Whether you're a dumpling connoisseur or simply craving a tasty snack, this humble dumpling house is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Google
Handmade dumplings and quick service. What more could you want? It's easy to order from your phone. The fried juicy pork dumpling was my favorite. The cucumber salad was delicious and a sharable portion without being too much food. On a hot day, you can sit in the back of the restaurant away from the windows. On a cool day or evening, it would be very nice to sit outside on the big patio. Overall the portions were a good size to share among 3 people.

Recently tried this Dumpling place on Main Street. We had two servers attending our table of 4 - a man and woman. The woman was extremely nice and a bit confused but the man was exceptionally rude. He dropped our first order on my husband ( this was a mistake most certainly) and then we ordered a few extra items after the initial order which he chastised us about. He claimed the kitchen was getting confused and to order everything at once. This is not our first time at a dumpling place, so if you don't want people to continue adding dishes throughout their meal to fit onto small tables then you should not provide the option to continuously add to an order. Take orders the traditional way instead allowing customers to scan a barcode which allows us to keep adding to our table. He definitely ruined the experience and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Also the prices are higher than Union City or Fremont. I get the prices are higher because of the location but the portion size should accommodate the price. Definitely won't be returning to this place because of the rudeness we experienced. There is a great place on Locust Street that we tried a couple of months ago - that place is busier but definitely worth the wait and the staff is extremely courteous.

Yelp
OMG, these are my favorite dumplings in all of california. Everything is hand-made and delicious. Our first time there, my son and I ate 48 various dumplings. Try everything on the menu. You won't be disappointed. The seating is a little small, and keep that in mind when ordering a lot at one time because the tables can fill up quickly. The service is pretty good and we can't wait to go back. Even with it being a 5 hour drive for us. We've made the trip a few times, even driving over an hour and a half out of our way. Side quest: don't skip out without getting Boba next door.

Yelp
I first tried Dumpling Hours with low expectations because honestly we were in the suburbs and as someone with high expectations for Asian food, I was arrogantly doubting how authentic the food would be. However I was wrong and each time I came back I was really impressed with the food and even found myself craving it!! Out of the different dishes I've ordered I recommend the jellyfish salad, truffle xlb (or spicy xlb if on a budget!), dan dan noodles, and peanut spicy wontons. So in short, basically everything. The truffle xlb stood out to me because of how umami it is. It was so decadent and a very unique flavor that you have to try. And I know jelly fish salad seems weird but the light sesamey sauce is paired really with it. The jellyfish is not at all "too fishy" and is very crunchy and light. It's honestly the perfect summer salad!!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this restaurant ever since they opened in Walnut Creek. It's nice to finally have a Shanghainese spot in this part of Contra Costa county. I visited with my mom on a Monday afternoon and there was no wait. They don't have a designated parking lot so you can opt for street parking which may be difficult in this part of Walnut Creek or you can park at a city parking garage (1st hour, every additional hour is $1.25). The restaurant is medium size with a dining room in the front, and dining room in the back connected by a long hallway with some high tables that can seat 2 people. You can the QR code on the table to place your order. We weren't too hungry so ordered the 8 piece pork xiao long bao and the zha Jiang soybean paste noodle. The kitchen is open and separated by glass so you can watch all your food getting prepared. Order to food arrival time was short. The pork xiao long bao were huge and full of juice. The meat was fresh but the skin was a bit thin so it easily breaks if you are not careful with picking it up with your chopsticks. The noodles were only ok, a bit too salty. I would recommend sticking with their xiao long bao or maybe the steamed dumplings for first timers. You pay at the front with the receipt they taped to your table. Overall, a good solid spot for lunch and dinner, to hang out with friends and coworkers.

Yelp
I will not take dumpling hours slander!!! I would literally just come back for the ginger scallion noodles. Perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. Cucumber salad, pork XLB, and the veggie dumplings are all super solid. Dare I say better than Din Tai Fung? Make sure you have an rsvp because it's always poppin'.

Yelp
So delicious! The pork 小籠包 are amazing and my partner, who is vegetarian, loves the vegetable dumplings. We also always like to get a bowl of hot and sour soup to share, as it's the perfect size for 2-3 people. The wait time for a table isn't bad usually, they have a kiosk for you to sign in and then they'll text you when your table is ready. The overall service is pretty good -- the staff are attentive and last time we ordered noodles, they even mixed it for us after setting it down on the table. We usually go on Fridays/Saturdays for dinner, so it can get a bit loud in there but overall it's a really fun experience! Would highly recommend trying Dumpling Hours, especially their dumplings, of course.

Yelp
I messaged a friend that I'll be in town a few hours and wanted to see if she had time to meet up. Fortunately, she was able to fit me into her busy schedule. We decided on lunch in Walnut Creek and she recommended Dumpling Hours. She's a foodie so I said that's perfect and we met up there. It was a weekday so finding parking was a breeze. Originally we decided to meet between 11-11:30am but we were both running a little late. Both of us must have been on Hawaiian time lol. When you enter, a host/hostess greets you and seats you. We got there a good time because the restaurant completely filled up shortly after we ordered. You'll enter into the front dining area and will see the kitchen in the middle. Along the hallway are tables for smaller parties and the back houses a back dining area and the restrooms. They have physical menus and you can order on your mobile. Keep in mind that you can't order alcoholic beverages online. You'll need to order directly with the server. We ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao and Hot & Spicy Pork Xiao Long Bao. They held up well and only a couple broke when peeling off the sheet. Both styles were good! I did add their chili oil to them for that extra kick. They do provide a sauce for the XLB though. Btw, the red looking sauce container is actually the spoon used to hold your XLB lol. Everything was washed down with some hot tea and glasses of red wine. Excellent recommendation by my friend and I will have to come back next visit.

Yelp
Staff was on top of their service. Was seated right away. Ordered on the app but paid with card at the end. Got the vegetable dumpling, veggie steamed bun ( meh ) and the garlic string beans I will try more next time and also get the string beans and veggie dumpling again not the steamed bun ( no flavor ) texture was amazing just wish it had some spices or some seasoning or even garlic inside of the mixture it was just soooo bland. Presentation to every plate was lovely and I will def be back :) Good lighting, lots of seating, family vibe, very busy always

Yelp
Woooooow I can't believe it took me this long to try Dumpling Hours... It's like a local legend on Yelp (IMHO...). Definitely lives up to the hype. My bf and I stopped by on a Saturday evening and put our name on their waitlist kiosk. Even with 7 parties in front of us, we received a text within 20 mins that our table was ready. We had: - WOOD & SILVER EAR MUSHROOMS (cronchy & refreshing... my bf's fav) - GINGER & SCALLION NOODLES (perfectly QQ and flavorful) - SHRIMP EGG CHIVES WOOD EAR DUMPLINGS (total comfort food) - SHRIMP & LOOFAH XLB (wish there was more soup... but otherwise delicious) - EGG FLOWER SOUP (this is more on the watery side w/LOTS of seaweed and the egg is clumped in the middle... i prefer the thicker hearty type with egg all throughout tbh) FYI: Upon seating, the environment is........ So frantic....... Not sure if they do zones, but it seemed like everyone was rushing everywhere, doing everything. We had to ask for a menu after sitting for 15 mins with no service. AND, staff kept dropping off glasses of water thinking we just got seated. At some point, we had 6 full glasses on our table from 3 separate employees bc nobody was keeping track LOL. Once we did order though, everything was smooth. Dishes took less than 20 mins to come out.

Yelp
Really tasty dumplings with a wide variety to choose from and the most delicious cucumber salad too! I would keep ordering if I could! Everything is made fresh to order. Staff is quick to take, prepare and serve your order. Reasonably priced as well- no complaints!

Yelp
This is my Wife and I's new favorite restaurant! We first noticed this place when eating across the street - we were making fun of the name but noticed a line to get in and took note that it must be good. We came here for snacks one day and left so full, but we enjoyed how easy it was to order on your phone for the entire table. Sure, it's not the same service with a smile most of us are used to, but it's efficient and fast! The fried dumplings are amazing, the shrimp and pork shumai are my second favorite. We've been here twice now and have loved it each time - I have begun recommending it to other people! Check them out, the food is fantastic and will burn your face off it is brought to your table fresh and hot from the kitchen!

Yelp
4.5 stars We had recently tried Dumpling Home in SF and we loved it, so we were pretty stoked to find this spot on our weekend trip to Walnut Creek. We got there like 5 minutes before they opened at 11am on a Sunday and there were 3 groups already waiting. It was Father's Day too, but still much better than the line in SF. They have some outdoor tables shaded with umbrellas. The restaurant is long and narrow. In the front they have a few tables that have a view of the dumplings being made and more tables towards the back. This location definitely felt more cramped and dated. To order, we have to scan a QR code on the table, once it's submitted, a server came out with a receipt of our order. It took about 20 minutes to get our order and everything came out back to back almost all at once. We ordered.. HOT & SPICY PORK XIAO LONG BAO (4) $7.95 -left my lips a little numb. It was juicyyy, meat was soft and the dumpling skin was nice and thin. Just a bit sweet though. 4.5/5* BLACK TRUFFLE & PORK XIAO LONG BAO (4) $12.95 -very truffle-y! They don't skimp either, you can see the black truffle pieces inside the meat. Just didn't care for the slice of truffle inside because of the texture. Juicy and the truffle flavor went well with the pork. 4.5/5* CRAB & PORK XIAO LONG BAO (4) $12.95 -pork meat is softer because of the crab meat. On the sweeter side and crab didn't taste so fresh. 3/5* JUICY PAN-FRIED PORK BUNS (6) $13.95 -came out juicy, piping hot with crispy bottoms. I like how the top of the dumpling was thin and the crispy bottom wasn't oily. But again, meat was kinda too sweet for our taste. It came with black vinegar sauce which helped cut through the sweetness. 4.5/5* SHRIMP & PORK VEGETABLE POTSTICKERS (5) $10.95 -crispy, not oily and juicy! It came with a sweet soy garlic sauce. 5/5* I love how we can pick 4 or 8 XLB's. Still pricey for only 4 pieces but at least it leaves us room to try other items. Service is was okay, not as friendly as SF but they got us what we needed and refilled our waters. I just hate the spot we got placed at in the back of the restaurant. Way too much foot traffic between people using the restroom and employees coming in and out directly across from us. -_-" By the time we left around 11:50am, there were sooo many people waiting outside for a table.

Yelp
In my opinion this is the best place in the East Bay for Dim Sum when I want to take it home. Next time I will take photos but we always seem to eat the Dim Sum so quickly it is gone before I even think of photos. My favorites are the pork dumplings and my daughter loves the pork steamed buns. But the best part for our family is that they also do the vegetarian dishes amazingly well. My wife is a vegetarian and she loves their veggie dumplings, steamed veggie buns, and the vegetarian spring rolls. When Mom is happy the whole family is happy!! I swear you can anything off the menu and you'll be happy! In fairness, I haven't tried the bean curd salad or the jellyfish dish?! I promise to add more details next time I order but they are so good I didn't want to wait to say so!

Yelp
I rarely give 5 stars to a place that isn't like Michelin star worthy! The dumplings here are just uber amazing and unique. I love the red soup dumpling bowl-spoon they have. You must order these dishes: - Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Ginger & Scallion Noodles - Pork Xiao Long Bao - Crab & Pork Xiao Long Bao There will likely be a wait during peak hours so plan accordingly. They'll have a tablet out front where you can put your name down on a virtual queue and you will be contacted to come back when your table is ready. Service was on point and there were no frills, just awesome dumplings to comfort your stomach!

Yelp
I have been eyeing this spot since they opened but only just got here! I am so mad that I waited! The food here was amazing! This spot is best if you come with others and can share dishes! We ordered the ginger and scallion noodles, green onion pancakes, and pan-fried pork buns. Every single bite was absolutely delicious! The star of the show was definitely the pan-fried pork buns though! The dumpling dough was thick soft and a little sweet. Almost like a bao dumpling dough. The inside was very flavorful and full of a delicious broth! I also really enjoyed the ginger scallion noodles! I do not know how to explain the flavor but they were so good!

Yelp
I liked! Not the best, but it was a very nice experience with good dumpling grub. Inside was nicer than I thought (from the street), and there is an ever-so-cute outdoor streetside patio to eat at. My bud and I shared the following: ============================= 1. XLB [4.0 stars, $15.95, 8 pieces] -- it's really what brought me in here. They were good, steamed, of course, but they are not in the little tins. What that means is when you pick them up, most of the delicious soup comes out of it. 2. Shrimp, Pork, & Veg Potstickers [4.0 stars, $11.95, 6 pieces] -- A little small, so a little prices per. Really good. Loved the corn starch crispy on the outside. 3. Dan Dan Noodles [3.5 stars, $15.95] -- while fresh housemade noodles, the overall flavor profile was ehhh. In other words, yawn. 4. Shrimp & Pork Sia Mar [3.0 stars, $10.95, 6 pieces] -- again, no flavor. 5. Sauteed String beans with garlic [4.5 stars, $13.95] -- delicious and perfect, except for being at least $3 too much. Returnability? I'd go back!

Yelp
Get this: juicy pan fried dumpling, Dan Dan noodle (if you like peanut butter flavor), green beans We've been here several times. Food is overall pretty good here. A couple of go-tos and a couple of passes. Get! Pan fried pork buns: good juicy pork bun. The skin is good texture, not too thick. Good flavor. Dan Dan sesame paste noodle: if you like peanut butter flavor, this is a must. I love their take on Dan Dan noodle. Noodles have good texture and thickness. Green beans: cooked to perfection. This was beautifully executed. Others: Beef noodle soup: this was just ok. Not very wow. It taste how it looks. Pork dumpling: meat was pretty good. Basic dumpling Onion pancake: didn't order it this time. A little pricey for pancake. But good. A HUGE minus was they squeezed our party of 5 in a 4 tight seater table. 3 on one side, 2 on the other. Absolutely no elbow room to move or eat. Was very uncomfortable. Usually these things don't bother me, but we were packed like sardines.

Yelp
My new fave spot in Walnut Creek! All of the tables were filled on a busy Saturday night. We added our name to the waitlist and got sat within 15 minutes. Convenient scan to order menu so no time was wasted. The servers were super attentive and confirmed your order once it was sent in. My favorite dish had to have been the Beef Xiao Long Bao (not pictured). So savory! The restaurant itself is rather small but bustling with happy customers!

Yelp
My friend lives in East Bay so we were thinking of somewhere to meet up for lunch. She and I love our dumplings, so an early Sunday lunch at Dumpling Hours just made sense, especially since they're under the same management as Dumpling Home. Full disclosure, I have never been to Dumpling Home though. Our party of four was graciously let in before their 11am opening. It was a warm day but we chose to sit inside. Ordering is easy via QR code. We ordered 1 order of shen jian bao (6 pcs) 2 large orders of xiao long bao (8 pcs), one order of spicy sesame wontons, 1 order of crushed cucumbers, and 1 order of ginger and scallion noodles. Service for the most part is pretty friendly. The restaurant started getting packed about half way through our meal. I will say the top picks were the juicy flavorful pan fried buns. They had perfectly browned bottoms and were filled with lots of delicious soup. The second fave was the crushed cucumbers. Lots of garlic with vinegar and cool crunchy cucumber pieces were so refreshing on that hot morning. The xiao long bao were filled with plenty of soup but the meat and broth weren't super flavorful. The scallion noodles were bland, and the spicy sesame wontons weren't our jam, we think it would've been better with a vinegar-soy based spicy sauce instead. The prices here are on par with their SF locations. Basic decor but a clean restaurant. Narrow walkway to the bathroom opens up to some more inside seating, and there are several tables outside with some shade. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if I were craving SJB and needing to meet up in East Bay, it may be suggested for a casual lunch. Get there early or be prepared to wait! Parking seems like it could be a bit difficult in the area, but we got lucky with a spot a block up. Note that the meters are active on Sundays here! 3.5 rounded up because the SJB and cucumbers were so so good!

Yelp
Love this place so much! Been here about 3 times and it always hits the spot. This restaurant doesn't have a lot of seating so make sure to come when they open. Even if you have to wait a bit, it is still worth it in my opinion. In addition, the location is also on a busy street in downtown Walnut Creek so parking can be hard to come by on the street. There are a few parking structures near by so not the biggest deal. As we sat down, there is a QR code on the table where you can see the menu and submit your order via phone. I am sure if you asked for a physical menu they will provide one if needed. When we come we always order: - Dan Dan Sesame Paste Dry Noodles: 10/10! SO yummy and creamy! I love the texture of the noodles - Pan Fried Pork Buns: 10/10! Love that the bottom has a crispy bottom, soft chewy top, and the inside is filled with flavorful pork and so juicy! Love getting an order of these! - Pork Xiao Long Baos: Delicious! Flavorful and tasty. I like that the skin isn't too thick or too thin so it keeps all the soup intact when you bite into it - Pork Wonton with Sesame Sauce Chili Oil: Love the ratio of the wrap to meat, but personally what makes this dish is the sesame chili oil!! So delicious if you love that nutty, creamy, spice kinda thing. - CHicken Wings: 9/10! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Has a sweet chili flavor. - Green Onion Pancake: 6/10: Not horrible by any means but not the tastiest I ever had. If you like Green Onion Pancakes, this is a good try. I love this place and will be coming back again and again. I know there is a location in Oakland as well so looking forward to checking that one out.

Yelp
Third time coming here and literally always order the same thing. Ordered: green beans, pan fried pork buns, pork XLB, and ginger and scallion noodles Everything was so good! Literally ordered, got our food and ate in 25 min total! They were so fast today! So good and consistent too! Def worth coming back!!

Yelp
This is a monthly lunch/dinner date place around this household! That pork soup dumpling is CRAZY! I've never had it better ANYWHERE. First come first serve on the seating, but if u get indoors they have the glass where u can see them making the dumplings, literally Gods work... we supplement the goodness with garlic noodles and the chicken wings which also have always lived up to the hype. Look at the time, it's dumpling hours!

Yelp
In was very skeptical abut this place when I checked it out online. No Har Gow, No fried Taro Cake, No Sui Mai?? What kind of treasonous, new-age, fusion crap are these people peddling? But my wife insisted that we try it,as there was a long line on a Sunday afternoon. I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. This place is awesome!! Fresh, fusion of original dumplings done to perfection. We had the pork chili dumplings to start. Excellent. Juicy Pan-fried Pork Buns! Yeah!! Followed by the Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup dumplings. Very good!! This place is fast, excellent service. A bit pricey, but worth it!!

Yelp
We finally tried this place! We ordered a bunch of items to try and overall it was good. I don't think anything blew me away. We ordered the green beans (nice and crispy), scallion noodles (okay), pan fried pork dumplings (good), pork dumplings (good), chicken soup dumplings (Did not care for this), and the spicy wontons (did not like this). Definitely would not order the wontons again. The sauce was weird and did not go well with the wontons. The chicken soup dumplings tasted off as well. Would not recommend this. The pork soup dumplings and green beans were good. I don't think I would come back but worth a try if craving soup dumplings.

Yelp
We stopped by Dumpling Hours, because we were getting Boba next door. We ended up ordering their 8 piece Shanghai Dumplings to-go. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and sweet. The dumplings were delicious! Very authentic and tasty. I regret not buying more. This place is usually very busy and I can see why. The inside looks very cozy and it's a nice aesthetic lunch spot!

Yelp
I go to Walnut Creek a lot and keep seeing this place packed with a line waiting. Always said next time since I'm so impatient and there are many other options in the area. Finally came here and of course, there is a wait list. I put my name down and went to another place thinking it might not happen if it took too long. I got a text in 5 mins, so went back to the restaurant (keep in mind reservation was for 2). Got down to it and ordered some small dishes to start. The food was incredible! It was very tasty and confirms why this place is so busy. Definitely coming back and try some other dishes!

Yelp
Parking in Walnut Creek can be hard especially on Main St. so if you don't find parking on the street you should be able to find some in the parking garages nearby. Once you have arrived, put your name in the list that is usually outside on the iPad. Larger groups will take longer to get in. If you are a party of two you should get in quite quick like my partner and I did! There is indoor and outdoor seating. Back area of the restaurant is a bit quieter if you are looking for that type of atmosphere whereas outside is louder and a lot of people are waiting to be seated often. Check the hours! This place resets before dinner so they usually close at 2:30pm and then open back up at 5:00pm. Check before you go. The ordering system is great as they have a QR code at your table. You can place your order and add items as you go until you are ready to checkout. If you are looking for alcoholic beverages, ask the staff for their list of drinks and they will add it to your tab. The pan-fried dumplings are my favorite next to the pork XLB! I'm also a sucker for boiled dumplings and the chicken and mushroom ones were so tasty. You've got to get the garlic green beans as well. So much flavor! Noodles are fantastic and flavorful with that springy texture that keeps you slurping up more. Great food, fast service! Try this place soon!

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended this place! It was overall a decent experience, but keep in mind - they get VERY busy during dinner hours on the weekends. Everyone seemed to be ordering the Ginger & Scallion Noodles and XLB here! Of the various items we ordered, the Pork Xiao Long Bao (5/5) were the best in my opinion! Very juicy and the texture of the dumplings were pleasant. Durable and not too thick! The broth was a shocking mix of chicken and pork flavors. I had never tasted chicken broth in a soup dumpling, so it was an interesting change of pace. The Sheng Jian Bao (3/5) were a bummer to me. The wrapper was too thick and the filling was overcooked. The bottoms weren't as crispy as I had hoped too. This also had the same broth as the XLB.

Yelp
Ordered to go and food was still delicious. The juicy pan fried pork bun lived up to its name and was super juicy. We also got the pork xiao long dumpling was good. Great beans and Brussels sprouts are great veg orders. Shumai yum. The dan dan noodles were a bit too peanut buttery for me but glad I tried it. The pork won ton with chili oil also a highly recommend item.

Yelp
Always a great meal at Dumpling Hours! Great food, reasonable prices with fast & efficient services keeps is coming back! Must try dishes: - Classic xiao long bao; forget the fancy stuff with truffles or crab... simply the classic pork xlb is the best :) - Scallion and ginger noodles: very good, one of the best you can find in the try-valley. Simple yet full of flavors . YUM - Vegetable Dumplings (the green ones): one of my favorite. This is your veggies after chowing down 6-8 pork XLB's. Lol - All other dishes are always on point and very good. This restaurant is always consistent and food is consistently good.

Yelp
This place is delicious! If you're in the mood for some dumplings in the Walnut Creek area, this is the place for you. It's within walking distance of the shopping plaza which is perfect cause if you over eat- you can chill with a nice walk. Love the food, I come with a close friend of mine frequently! 10/10 just wish they had fried rice on the menu hehe

Yelp
My sister and son brought back orders of delicious dumplings, pan friend soup dumplings by a, hot and sour pork dumplings. Everything was incredibly delicious. I've never heard of this delicious place but now that I do, I'm telling anyone who will listen.

Yelp
I didn't feel that the dumplings matched the high ratings found here on Yelp. I appreciated the authentic presentation, however flavor was missing for me. The only shrimp dumplings are actually chopped shrimp with luffa gourd, which was a disappointing pairing. I wouldn't come again, but I'm glad I checked it off my east bay foodie bucket list.

Yelp
Outstanding soup dumplings, worth the 30 minute drive from our home. They have a variety of gyozas (pork, chicken, shrimp, vegetarian), soup dumplings, green onion pancakes and noodles. The first time we ordered over the phone for to-go. Very generous portions and the soup dumplings are fresh and filling. The lines are out the door for good reason. The second time we came here for my daughter's birthday lunch since she loves soup dumplings. We had a group of 6 and had plenty to share and take some home as well. It's quite loud inside since it's not really that big of a space, but luckily after 30 minutes or so we found a table in the back.

Yelp
My review should just be: I drove from SF to Walnut Creek for this place. Lives up to the hype, but that's just my opinion! The pan fried soup dumplings were something I've never had before?? Like???? These are so good?!?! But they should 100% come with a splash zone warning. Like, tie your hair back, don't wear nice clothes. I accidentally bit into one and it legit sprayed two feet in front of me. Whoops. Maybe sit across from your least favourite person while you eat these. Jk. Service was great! Super friendly, super helpful. It can get a little noisy on the street but it's a really nice spot!

Yelp
The dumplings were delicious. The service was fast and easy process. The dry fried chicken wings were to die for (at first I was not expecting a sauce but we were pleasantly surprised). The dumplings with the peanut sauce were good too but, also was described a bit weird on the menu. We were not expecting the peanut butter but, we're both peanut butter lovers. It wasn't a problem at all for us but, just a heads up to anyone who may have an allergy. It was a bit busy when we were there but, it was a Saturday evening. All in all, great place to try!

Yelp
First time here for my wife and I. Fairly large and clean restaurant. Lots of inside and outside dining. We ordered the Juicy Pan-fried pork dumplings and Pork Wontons. Both dishes were delicious

Yelp
The food here is absolutely incredible. Everything was so tender and full of flavor. The wings on the potsticker show that they know how to make crispy potstickers. You order food through a QR code and the servers bring out the food and really quick and attentive. They don't leave any empty plates on your table for long allowing you more space to eat. You have the option of indoor and outdoor seating. We did outdoor seating and it was a bit cramped to the person next to us (bumping chairs) but the table space is nice and big. Highly highly highly recommend

Yelp
Managed to get in just under the wire on a Sunday night, and we appreciated the kind service and hospitality by the staff, along with their efficiency in ordering at the table using the provided QR code. Their indoor seating was clean and bright, and the outdoor tables were also a good option, especially on a warm summer night. We started with the cucumber salad with crushed garlic, which included cool, crispy cucumber chunks marinated in vinegar and seasonings, along with plenty of raw garlic which provided a good culinary punch. The green onion pancakes were properly cooked, filled with lots of green onion, and not too salty. We next enjoyed the shrimp, pork and chives boiled dumplings which were plump and fresh tasting, accompanied by a vinegar soy-based dipping sauce. The pan-fried pork bun is one of their signature dishes, and has textural contrasts along with a rich broth inside that you can slurp out before digging into the tender seasoned pork and dough. Finally, we ended with their steamed pork xiao long bao, and we enjoyed the texture of the dough along with the piping hot soup and pork filling with each one. The staff also kept our water glasses full and checked in to see how we were enjoying the food too. Will definitely be back to try more of their different dumplings and dishes!

Yelp
This is a modern/fusion with an American twist. There are very limited Chinese restaurants that serve dumplings and noodles in Contra Costa. Typically would need to go to the South Bay or San Francisco for quality. Gave this place a try for the first time. Ordered the standard dishes to give a proper judgment: Pork Xiao long bao and spicy braised beef noodle soup. Both were disappointing. The Xiao long bao soup tasted sweet. The black vinegar sauce hardly had any ginger slices and the spicy beef noodle soup was mild in spice at best and the beef wad full of fat. Luckily it wasn't chewy. The tomatoes were served raw whereas traditionally they are cooked in the stock.

Yelp
Wow - this place more than exceeded my expectations!! Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service was super quick. Definitely a no frills kind of place, where it's all about the quality of the food rather than the service. The cucumbers were perfectly seasoned and very crisp, and the dumplings were juicy and flavorful. Will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Cute dumpling restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek. They seem to be a bit understaffed since there were open tables, but it took a little while before we were seated. This wasn't a big deal but just a reminder to be patient with restaurants as many are understaffed. Ordering was easy as you just place your order via a QR code. Food came out pretty quickly after our order was placed. We tried the following: - Ginger & scallion noodles: this was okay, nothing particularly memorable - Pork wonton with sesame sauce and chili oil: good but I would've preferred more chili oil and less sesame sauce - String beans sautéed with garlic: this was my favorite. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly The portions were not very large given the price, so I will say I'd probably order more food next time though my partner and I weren't super hungry this time so the quantity of food was okay. This seems to be a pretty popular restaurant, so I'd love to come back again and try some of their other dumplings!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! I always think about coming back here because everything is so delicious. I understand why there's also a bit of a wait since the place is a bit small and it's so popular. - Juicy pan fried pork buns (11/10): soooo good, you 100% have to get them. Eating them out of the "spoon" provided is so helpful, it's the perfect size. The meat inside was perfectly seasoned and juicy, was not dry at all, which I feel like is common in soup dumplings - Pork Xiao Long Bao (10/10): these are always so good, they come out at the perfect temperature so you can eat it right away. I prefer when the soup dumplings aren't huge so it's easier to eat and these I can just pop in and eat in one go!! - Ginger & Scallion Noodles (8/10): my favorite part of these noodles are the texture, it's so good. the sauce is a bit on the sweeter side, which I didn't mind! I added some chili oil to make it spicier and a bit saltier to cut the sweetness. (I also appreciate how their chili oil is actually spicy!) - Pork Wontons in Sesame Sauce & Chili Oil (7/10): I enjoy how much sesame flavor is in these, but I would have like more chili oil! It wasn't a huge problem since I just added more chili oil haha this is 100% my favorite soup dumpling place ever, looking forward to trying the Oakland location since it's closer by!

Yelp
Really? Dumpling! Hour? You telling me that with DoughZone right around the corner, you are gonna go to this fast food Dumpling house? Nope, not for me. The dumplings seemed like they were right out of the box and steamed on a hot plate. I'll be spending my time at DoughZone and getting a nice plate of their amazing Pork&Shrimp Potsticker with my Xiao Long Bao. And better customer service..... .

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place so I was really excited to go when my friend mentioned it, especially since it's hard to come by a dumpling spot around here. We had the cucumber salad first and it honestly lacked in flavor but it was refreshing and soft. I usually expect them to be absorbed by the flavor mentioned. The hot & sour soup is amazing! I love soup and I always order this so I was pleased when I tried it, the perfect combination of ingredients. The chicken dumplings were delicious and I love the sauce they provided it with. I thought the vegetable bun was decent, I wouldn't order it again. The soup dumplings were my favorite!! I highly recommend them and I want to try all the flavors of it. I'll definitely come back and try new things! Just a bit pricey but it's expected for the location.

Yelp
This dumpling spot is so good and will definitely be a new go-to for me since it's closer to north bay! The absolute best dumplings that you have to try are the hot and spicy pork xiao long bao, and this may be my new favorite place to get them. They're delicious and juicy and perfect to me. Every dish was tasty and something I'd get again, although I do like the pan fried pork buns at my favorite dumpling spot in SF, Dumpling Home, better. The service was fast but it's not super spacious inside and it's quite popular, so be prepared to wait for a bit. I promise it's so worth it!

Yelp
Damn this place is ridiculous. We came on a work day spontaneously and it was busy but food came out SO quick and was so tasty. We had the xiao long bao's and the ginger scallion noodles and the spicy beef noodle soup. You can't go wrong with ANY of them. The green beans are also a bit on the oily side but super tasty. Would suggest dining here - the food loses much of it's flavor and goodness when you do take-out (I've done it multiple times now) and it's not the fault of the restaurant but due to the type of hot fresh food - especially the Xiao Long Bao's - the soup dumplings - you don't want those to-go, they totally get misshapen, stuck to each other and the soupy goodness on the inside evaporates. Super busy but they turn over their tables quick - so don't be deterred. Highly recommend this tiny super popular spot. Interior is cozy on a cold day and steamy too!

Yelp
Omg- run, don't walk here!!! Literally THEE best XLB I've had in California!!! I'm a SGV (San Gabriel Valley) baby, so I've grown up being in an area that literally has the best Asian food outside of Asia. I thought I'd had some amazing XLB, but Dumpling Hours now has the crown! We went to the location in Walnut Creek- parking was easy to find and it's in the adorable downtown area of the city. Service was fast and efficient. We ordered the pork and crab XLB, juicy pan fried pork buns, cucumber salad, ginger and scallion noodles, and pork wontons with chili sauce. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!! For our family, the star was definitely the XLB- the quality and flavors were just on a different level here! But Nothing here disappointed!!! Will most definitely be back again when we're up in the Bay Area- Dumpling Hours is a MUST for anyone looking for an amazing, delicious meal in the Walnut Creek vicinity!!!

Yelp
Cannot say enough good things about Dumpling Hours. My favorite items would be the Juicy Pan-Fried Dumplings, the Spicy Xiao Long Baos, and the Cucumber Salad. As others have mentioned, this may be the reigning King of dumplings within the Bay Area. Haven't found another establishment that does it better. Further, I don't think there is anything I've tried that I didn't like. I noticed that they attracted a large amount of take out orders, which means they're tasty, efficient, and have a good value for either the quality/quantity of items. Further, I also noticed that folks tend to order a lot of various dishes on their extensive menu. This notes to me that they are well balanced and don't solely rely on one signature dish. Servers are attentive while still efficient. They are quick to turn dishes over, remove emptied dishes, and provide water when needed. Looking forward to trying some of the other things on the menu - beef noodle soup, chive pancake, and dumplings. Everything else that we have tried, including the spicy wontons, scallion noodles, dry cooked string beans, and egg drop seaweed soup were great.

Yelp
Walking into the restaurant at exactly 5pm when they opened was one of the best feelings ever, my friend recommended the place to me, I am a huge dim sum lover. The food was really good, I'd say better than din tai fung, that's what you can compare it to, and they're kinda overrated. The food serving was nice because you can share it with whoever you're with and have a nice conversation while doing so. The staff was workin workin, they were quick and very accommodating. The ambiance was nice, but 30 min in it got loud, crowded, and you can barely hear your own party. The place was small, but I can see why so many people came to enjoy the food. It is worth it.
