"GRANDMA KNOWS" - and it's ALL GOOOOOD -
Saturday was our "141st Month-i-versary" and my Wife and I went out for Dinner to Celebrate - and where else to Celebrate such an occasion is one of the Best Grandma places to eat in San Angelo - Yep, you guessed it, "Dun Bar Motel & Restaurant". Now, if you didn't guess this, that's okay, because you don't live in the San Angelo area. Dun Bar Motel & Restaurant has been family owned and ran for 50 years and still going strong. They are open for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and I have seen some of their Breakfasts servings and they are Huge & Awesome.
The Goodfellow Air Force Base is close by the Dun Bar Motel & Restaurant and the Quicksand Golf Course is right down the street - this is West Texas Baby - just thought I would toss that in - Now you Know. We arrived for our Dinner and there are a good number of people here. Walked in and the sign says for you to take a seat - and we did - we found a booth. Michelle is our Server and provided us with Menus and since it's our first time here, she explained some of the Specials they have. We noticed they serve Mixed Drinks - so naturally we ordered a couple of "Jack-N-Cokes" ($5ea) - and then looked over the rest of the Menu.
Each day they list their Specials - and here they are for Saturday, June 3, 2023.
MENU: SATURDAY 6-3-2023 GRILLED BONELESS PORKCHOPS, SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN W CREAM GRAVY, CATFISH FILLET W TARTAR SAUCE, VEGETABLE PLATE W HARD BOILED EGG & CHEESE. VEGETABLES: TATER TOTS, NAVY BEANS, SLICED TOMATOES, BUTTERED CARROTS. DESSERT: CAKE.
They are Open every day of the week from 6am to 9pm.
They also Bost; "Traditional Turkey & Dressing Dinner with All the Fixins All Day Sunday" - now, you don't get any "Grandma'er" than that.
When Michelle returned with our drinks, we placed our order - after we chatted for a while. My Wife is having their "Chef's Salad" ($8) with Italian Dressing. What it consists of is not listed on the Menu, but you know what's in it. We are also ordering some Onion Rings (Large, $6). I am having one of their Daily Specials; "Southern Fried Chicken" with Cream Gravy, Tater Tots, Navy Beans, Sliced Tomatoes & Cake. Also comes with Fresh Homemade Rolls, Butter, etc. ($13).
While we waited for our food we enjoyed those Jack-N-Cokes - and let me tell you, they are loaded with JACK - at least a shot and a half. This is Mighty Fine Tasting with Jack clinging to the sides of your throat all the way down - this is some good stuff - Grandma knows how to pour. Soon our 'Onion Rings' arrived, and they are served on a Platter stacked up High - nicely coated and Golden Brown. There are so many Onion Rings on that Platter that I told everyone in the Restaurant "Onion Rings for Everyone". The only place to start is from the Top and work your way Down - and that's what we did. They have a Nice Crunch to them and the taste of Fresh Onion. Also found an Onion Ring in the shape of a 'Heart' - perfect for our Celebration. Love You Baby - and the Onion Ring knows -
Just as we started in on those Awesome Onion Rings, our Food arrived. My Wife's "Chef's Salad" has several Huge Slices of Tomatoes atop along with many Chunks of Ham. You now know 'Grandma is in the Kitchen'. They also provided my Wife with a bottle of Italian Dressing to use as she wants. My "Southern Fried Chicken" plate consists of Two Fried 'Golden Brown' Breast & Leg Chicken pieces that only Grandma can fry - they look Perfect. There is also Two Thickly Sliced BIG Tomatoes. The Cream Gravy they serve is more like 'Cream Gravy Soup' because it's a Bowl - Filled. There is enough Gravy there for Six People to enjoy with Mashed Potatoes plus the Chicken. There is also a Basket of Fresh Baked Rolls that I plan to enjoy with that Gravy. The Fried Chicken is Amazing - it's like when you were a Kid and bit into Grandma's Fried Chicken and the Crispy Skin slides off the Chicken and the Flavor explodes in your mouth, along with the Heat from being fried - that's Grandma's Fried Chicken. That's how this is - love that Breading. The Navy Beans are Perfectly Prepared with lots of Flavor. - and I will be saluting later. My Wife and I Love those Rolls, me especially with the Gravy. We ate the Whole Basket of Rolls. My Wife said that her Chef's Salad was GOOOOOD, and it was a lot to eat. We did the best we could on those Onion Rings and took the rest home.
Now, I also get Cake for Dessert and Michelle said that I can have my choice of Cake or Pie and she stated what they have. When I heard 'Chocolate Cream Pie' with Meringue. I then knew that's what I wanted. She brought it over and it looks Scrumptious - and it was. Very Rich on the Chocolate and that Meringue looks Heavenly. Grandma knows how to make Chocolate Cream Meringue Pie and she knocked this one out of the ballpark.
Check'em out when you can - Ya Gonna Luv It All = Grandma ROCKS.
