"Prepare for a little bit of a line at these popular Santa Barbara coffee spots (there are two very close to each other, to accommodate overflow): Besides great almond milk lattes and macchiatos, they serve some pretty mean (and gigantic) Rice Krispies Treats."

Google
Strolling through Downtown Santa Barbara with my wife, we stumbled upon Dune Coffee Roasters—and it was the perfect find. As a coffee enthusiast, I was impressed by its bright, balanced espresso and the welcoming, sunlit space that invites you to slow down and savor. Easily one of the highlights of our visit.

Google
This place is not to be missed, their coffee is well sought out and brewed to perfection literally. There’s somebody who specializes in pour overs and I’ve never had one created with as much care and abstracting the flavour from the beans as the person purveying mine. The location has an amazing vibe, the people are phenomenal!

Google
A beautiful coffee shop right in the middle of State Street. They make great latte and pour overs. There is a lovely sunny terrace at the back to enjoy your coffee in the sun.

Google
Local cafe with crafted drinks and pastries. A common hangout for regulars. 3rd wave coffee style is the standard. Servuce is prompt and speedy. The layout is simple with outdoor and indoor tables. As usual an ideal place to work or meet up for a cup of coffee.

Our Americano and latte were top notch. Nice staff. Beautiful part of downtown!

Google
I’ve been trying espressos all across the Santa Barbara and Montecito area, this is the best one I’ve found and the first one I’ve found that comes with sparkling water. The shop is very cute, my son loved the bean muffin and my wife enjoyed her unsweetened matcha. Will come back. Could easily be a regular here.

Google
This was my 1st time visiting Dune, I was visiting from another state, staff was extremely friendly, nice, and very helping. I could not decide what I wanted so they recommended the Almond Croissant and a cappuccino. Both were phenomenal. The croissant was so good I had to order another. Def will be returning when I head back to Santa Barbara.

Google
Great place for studying/working, and a popular spot to go to. Staff was very friendly, didn’t personally talk to them but I did see a some baristas making conversations with locals, very nice to see. Music was good for vibing with personally, lots of Taylor Swift. There are bathrooms, water cups, plenty of seating and wifi available for customers. I got a large Vanilla Latte and I recommend: I will probably come back some time!

Yelp
Having lived in SB for 6+ years now, I've made my way around the local coffee scene. I've been to both Dart's, both Handlebar's, four different Caje's, "Dean: A Coffee Shop", Old Town, Santa Barbara Roasting, both Daily Grind's, Allesia, Hook&Press, two Lighthouse's, the coffee shop adjacent to the Von's in Montecito, Lucky Llama in Carp... all multiple times each. And after drinking coffee from Dune many many many times, I can say with complete confidence: this is my single favorite coffee shop. Period. The coffee is absolutely top-tier, the cleanest of the clean, the tastiest of the tasty, the freshest of the fresh. Don't buy it? Pick up a bag of whole bean Zip Zinger (or anything you can find) and make yourself a cup at home. It's ethereal. Simply put, Dune checks off all the boxes I look for in coffee: top-notch quality, clean-but-unpretentious branding and atmosphere, a focus on the best beans, and a company that truly cares about the quality of their product. I love Dune. Fingers crossed they never sell out and keep providing us with amazing coffee.

Yelp
A nice little coffee shop in the downtown Santa Barbara shopping area. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The espresso tonic was good. The ones I've had before usually had tajin in it but this one did not. I was hoping for some tajin but it didn't need any. The latte was your standard latte. The cinnamon sugar toasted is good for what it is. lol Service was friendly and efficient. Would come back if in the area. But I would also maybe try other coffee shops as well since there's a lot in the area.

Yelp
Little coffee shop tucked into a corner on state street! back opened up to reveal more seating and a view of the adjacent street outside. great for studying or meeting up with friends. i got the trees leches iced latte and the gingerbread hot latte. both were so yummy and worth trying! staff was sweet and pleasant. would come back!

Yelp
This coffeeshop was near my hotel and I ended up going here every day while I was in Santa Barbara. The coffee was brewed perfectly and every drink we had was great. From the iced mocha, pumpkin spice latte, vanilla latte, and the daily brewed coffee, each drink was delicious. There is space for seating inside and outside, we tried both and it was fun to relax and to people watch. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall I highly recommend!

Yelp
I ordered the Matcha Latte with Oat milk. So so good. The servers were friendly and efficient. The place is clean. Not too crowded when we got there. I would love to come back and try their coffee.

Yelp
Came back after years and years and still just as great as the first time. Friendly staff and tasty craft beverages.

Yelp
We popped into Dune coffee on State Street for a quick pick me up as we needed to kill some time before an event. Our friend Jess noted this spot was good and she's our SB Queen so we trusted her judgment. Wandered inside and while it's a little narrow and small upfront, If you go towards the back there is more seating and restrooms. The decor in here is cute and inviting. Nice pops of color making it an inviting space and seemed hip which is perfect in this area with competing businesses. I love their logo, stickers, and coffee bags - definitely their merch and coffee bags would make for a good gift. I wanted something refreshing and light to drink so I went with their strawberry lemonade. No frills but I knew it would hit the spot. Sure enough, it was a great cup of lemonade. Happy to see the barista made it fresh with real Strawberry purée and visually it was pretty, nice coloring. The staff here were nice and I appreciated that they got us in and out pretty quick. My lemonade was definitely on the sweet side, but that's how I like it. A nice little shop worth checking out.

Yelp
Wow!! This place really hooked me ... We were driving down the street. I saw the line of people coming out of the door. . I just had to go give it a try. It's the real deal folks. Delicious smooth coffees . We also enjoyed their double shot dirty chai latte. They also sell a lot of fantastic pastries. We ended up buying a pound of their ground coffee to enjoy later. Extremely dog, friendly property kid, friendly people, friendly lots of smiles coming from the people that work there.. Super tasty cuppa Joe !

Yelp
I don't know why everyone online is saying dune is a must visit. The hot chocolate tasted like water and with a small touch of chocolate and the burrito tasted like nothing :(. Ordered the burrito with bacon but it just tasted like beans and rice. Had high hopes for dune but ultimately disappointed
google avatar

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood visiting for the day and definitely needed coffee. Looked up on yelp and found them. Friendly customer service. Very good cup of joe in the large, extra shot vanilla latte I ordered. I'd return for sure and definitely recommend.

Yelp
Amazing coffee shop!! The latte was amazing. The service was super friendly and the ambiance was also relaxed. Great coffee shop. Matcha latte was solid!

Yelp
Service: 5 stars Cappuccino: taste 5 stars, serving 2 stars. This is the tiniest cappuccino I have ever had in Santa Barbara. It was $4.25. Muffin: 1 star but not their doing. They buy their muffins from a wholesale bakery in LA.. very dry and over sweet. Ambiance: 4 stars. Typical coffee house vibe. I like Dune coffee so coffee was good.
google avatar

Daniela A.

Yelp
The staff and coffee are great! I prefer their Americano decently priced relative to neighboring coffee joints. They have wifi and 2 cute patios, a great place to catch up with friends or take a work meeting. Not to mention conveniently located downtown!

Yelp
Yelp
I just had the best cappuccino I've had in over 10 years. Absolutely fantastic. If this were closer, I would go every day.

Yelp
Discovered this cool coffee spot on state and it quickly became a favorite. Their vanilla latte is something else! There's just nothing quite like syrups made in-house, and this place was no exception. It's got a distinctly smooth and slightly nutty flavor that just hit the spot. Surprisingly found out they have multiple locations in the area (Goleta and SB), so you bet I'm excited to explore and try new things on their menu. Can't wait to go back for another round and see what else Dune has up its sleeve.

Yelp
A friend recommended this coffee shop to me and the rec was on point! It's on State St which you cannot drive down anymore (annoying) so parking is not the easiest. I went at around 8 am and it was very empty. Lots of seating, mostly indoors but a couple tables outside. Cute/chill vibe inside. Staff were friendly and even gave me free cookies! I got a vanilla latte and it was delicious. I am an SF coffee snob and I can attest to the quality of their lattes lol. Definitely recommend this spot during your SB vacay.

Patrick M.

Yelp
This is my ride or die coffee shop, till the wheels come off. This shop serves great coffee and fun treats, it's not generic and going multiple times is ideal. The staff shifts and the clientele come and go, but it's the kind of place that rewards being a regular.
google avatar

Olivia T.

Yelp
Pretty good coffee! I got an iced latte with vanilla. It took a few minutes to come out so it was really quick and the baristas were kind. Everyone has somewhere to sit and it was clean. They played great music too!
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
This place has a cute vibe and cool space, the coffee we tried (a latte) was really good and the espresso was flavorful and smooth. The service was hit or miss, the first barista was pretty unengaged and seemed pretty unhappy to be there, but the person making our coffee was considerably nicer. I'd go back if in the area to give it another go just given how good the coffee was.

Yelp
What a disappointment. . Went with my daughter after we visited the Santa Barbara Museum. Thought we'd stop in for a coffee afterwards to relax and went to Dune. They were about to close within the hour but we still had plenty of time. I ordered a decaf iced Americano and she had extreme difficulty with the machine. Never told us even though we were just sitting outside on the small right in front of her. She put out my daughter's drink first and then we had a mixup, which was tres leches latte a little sweet, but OK however, my drink came about half an hour after hers. What a shame that I already tipped on poor service and poor product. Then they were closing up and really a rush to get out of there. I understand things happen, however, the communication would have been nice to have.
google avatar

Govind O.

Yelp
The coffee and chocolate croissant were really good in fact better than handlebar! Guys, go to Dune it has a good ambience and the service was really good. The Tres leches latte iced and cappuccino are really good give them a try!
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
Place is super cute to come and hang, service is chill helpful for sure, the coffee 3/10 I didn't quite enjoyed it. I feel like it needs a little something I didn't try the limited food options so not sure how those are. Overall I think this is more of a come study while enjoying some okay coffee. The store is nice though and customer service was outstanding.

Udi Z.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in here I was blessed with the amazing aroma of freshly ground coffee beans. Their oat mocha tastes like heaven and looks like a catwalk model, which is why I had to snap a few pictures. :-)

Kaili K.

Yelp
For matcha lovers: I decided to try a matcha because they sell Mizuba Matcha and wanted to try since the online reviews seem good. At first, I wanted to order the Mizuba Matcha with simple syrup and oatmilk, which then the barista tells me it comes with no milk, but steeped traditionally with water. She told me that it would be better to opt for the Matcha Latte, which is your typical matcha latte and still uses the Mizuba brand matcha. Upon waiting for my order, I was shocked to see that they were whisking the matcha with the oatmilk, and not steeping with hot water...The matcha was flavor was super milky and completely overpowered by the amount of milk to matcha ratio. If you're looking for a strong matcha, I think next time I'd get the mizuba matcha add simple syrup and leave room for milk. The customer service was great 10/10 and the shop was very cute. I was only disappointed by the way they treated the Matcha :(

Anita M.

Yelp
Very small coffee shop without much standing room to shop the whole bean coffees. The staff was kind but did not give thorough responses to my questions about coffee notes specific to come of their roasts. I respect when baristas really know their offerings inside and out. Nice selection of whole bean coffees all the same.

Yelp
There's no shortage of fantastic coffee in downtown Santa Barbara. I must share with the world that Dune pulls off fantastic espresso drinks. My macciachho was woody with notes of cheery and apricot. For those who prefer something on the sweeter end, the vanilla latte was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness.
google avatar

Richelle A.

Yelp
This is my second time coming to Dune Coffee Roasters. The staff are friendly. I appreciated their patience as my niece decided which pastry she wanted. I ordered the iced tres leches latte and enjoyed every sip. The perfect mix of coffee and sweet especially if you like your coffee more on the sweeter side.
google avatar

Pau A.

Yelp
Delicous lattes. Iced oat milk vanilla latte was superb. Love their plenty of outdoor and indoor seating with wifi available. Dune whole roasted coffee beans are the best for our homemade lattes as well. Staff are happy to welcome us and quick to take and bring out our order. Thank you to Dune for your calm and inviting ambiance. Sweet place to get work done or catch up with fam/friends at the heart of downtown Santa Barbara.
google avatar

Jamie Y.

Yelp
Stopped by this popular coffee shop to get something to pick me up. I thoroughly enjoyed their iced tres leches! it's a latte with your choice of milk and their sweeten condensed milk, it's not overly sweet and it's delicious The service is super friendly and it's located on the beautiful state street. They have lots of seating outside and many trees for shade
google avatar

Seol L.

Yelp
The iced mocha was consistently good (went twice during my visit to Santa Barbara), there was a clean restroom (code needed), and my husband and I were able to sit with our dog in the patio, which is always nice. Service was great, and the drink came out fast!
google avatar

Meagan E.

Yelp
Consistently my favorite coffee shop in SB. Actually they have the best coffee in general Ive probably ever had. Though I wish theyd start offering caramel as a flavor add in, the vanilla is really really in point. Nice pronounced flavor. And a rare gift is that they have heavy cream as a creamer option. It's a happy day all around whenever I come.
google avatar

Kathrine W.

Yelp
Great service and vibe! The baristas were totally slammed, the line was super long and it seemed like they had a ton of to go ordered too. Even so we still got our drink super fast and the people working were super friendly! Not a ton of seats so more of a grab and go vibe but you can sit outside!!
google avatar

Ali K.

Yelp
Yummmm we hit dune coffee roasters the morning after a big night out. Everyone was super happy with their drinks choices. I personally got an iced cold brew with oat milk and a splash of honey. The coffee was super delicious and had a unique taste (in the best way possible). The atmosphere was also really great, upbeat and dog friendly, which Was fantastic. Also very covid cautious with only outdoor seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped here twice while in Santa Barbara and had an amazing experience. I went with one of their pour overs the first time and a standard drip the second time. Myself and friends all really enjoyed their coffee and just the general vibes of the place. Lots of cool merch, stickers, and a full bake case that we didnt get to enjoy due to having brunch plans. We did take advantage of the small outdoor back patio with our dogs and it was a great place to kick back and enjoy our drinks. If you're in the area and crazing some coffee or pastries I'd definitely stop by Dune.

Mr. W.

Yelp
Best coffee in Santa Barbara from my experience. Good tasting notes -- the Americano tastes like coffee, not like a watered-down dark beverage you see at some places (and it's not scalding hot). People here seem to know what they're doing with coffee. Service is friendly and the staff doesn't hesitate to give you a mug if you're staying. There's an outdoor patio that is quite busy with foot and car traffic but it's enclosed and is a nice space.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
Like all of the Dunes, here you get consistently well made barista drinks which you can sip and enjoy in a chill and hip atmosphere. I will continue to shout Dune's praises: the coffee is just as good as Handlebar without the insanity of the crowds. Thus, they're all (Dunes) great spots to grab a coffee and camp out, working, or for a quick to go pick me up.
google avatar

Tara P.

Yelp
ATMOSPHERE Modern, hipster, some outdoor seating at the front and more at the back entrance. SERVICE Cheery and happy to answer questions about milk alternatives and sugar content in beverages. FOOD/BEVERAGES I find most places sweeten their matcha mix, and if you're used to that you might find Dune's matcha rather bitter. However, a stevia packet solved that issue for me. And all the pastries looked excellent. Overall: Solid spot to get caffeinated, read, meet up, etc. but there are cheaper coffee shops off State St.

Lilah A.

Yelp
Super cute inside but.... we got a plain black coffee and a vanilla latte. Vanilla latte was super sweet and didn't have a good coffee taste. Black coffee was incredibly bitter and watered down. Ended up taking a couple sips and throwing it in the trash.
google avatar

Bri F.

Yelp
Everything about our visit was great! Staff was so friendly and welcomed us as soon as we walked in; and they were helpful with finding us great drinks to try! Went with an iced tres leche latte with whole milk, and an iced vanilla latte with whole milk. We could taste all of the respective flavors, and the drinks hit the spot! We will be visiting again soon!
google avatar

Garett S.

Yelp
I must admit when I go to Santa Barbara, Handle Bar Coffee Roasters has been my default coffee option. When I heard this place may be in conversation for best latte I had into give it a try. While I normally go with a vanilla latte, which I hear is very good here, I decided to go with a tres leches. I got my with a little extra syrup. This was a great alternative to a vanilla latte. Great coffee taste and a great level of sweetness. After trying Dune I, think it's a toss up between here and HBCR for best coffee in Santa Barbara.
google avatar

Cara A.

Yelp
They used to have the most terrible, harassing neighbors, (Vine Vera), where men would rush you on the sidewalk to try to hard sell to vulnerable and scared women...face creams. This is why I've never come here before because men would try to grab me on this corner. LUCKILY, Vine Vera has shut down so if you are a woman, you will be able to actually enjoy strolling near this corner spot again and grab some coffee or tea. The pandemic provided more seating out on the street, but honestly, without the pandemic, this place would be narrow and tight, and not the most charming place to meet with friends or relax. It's more of a "order and grab," kinda place. They do have a little back patio around the corner, which was empty, and will be my little secret. The matcha latte with oat milk was great. The croissants are average, not exceptional, but for a quick pick-me-up, Dune got the job done. The young and energetic staff are very adorable. I do appreciate their location, but it's not a destination place, just a stopping point while you stroll along State Street.
google avatar

Tammie W.

Yelp
Delicious coffee roaster with multiple locations in Santa Barbara. The one on Anacapa is by far my favorite just because it's off the beaten path, open and less busy compared to the one on State St. We visited both and enjoyed the matcha latte which was very matcha forward with a subtle sweetness, an iced vanilla latte, a cortado and drop coffee. All were delicious and carefully made. We loved it so much that we picked up a couple of bags of beans to take home, grind and brew when we get back to San Diego.
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Friendly, prompt and service was excellent. Simply can't ask for anything more from a small biz. Matcha was whisked and made on the spot which is also pleasant to see.

Dawn S.

Yelp
This coffee shop may have great coffee, however, with zero sugar-free options, I was not able to give it a try. I was very disappointed in my visit.
google avatar

Pam H.

Yelp
Dune Coffee State ST has had a much needed staff upgrade. Much more genuine service. New Fresh faces, beautiful people with genuine smiles; better than coffee. The Vibe is much better!

Connor C.

Yelp
Staff was nice but matcha was horrible could only taste the milk and was horrible. Nice inside.
google avatar

Nina L.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop on state street. Friendly service. I had an iced matcha latte with oat milk and a splash of vanilla for a little sweetnesss. A tasty afternoon pick me up.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
Sadly, this isn't my favorite coffee in town. This location is ideal because its right off of State Street and can get a pick-me-up in a pinch. I have had the drip coffee and the cold brew and both seem watered down and no flavor. The staff is great and they are open later than other coffee shops but maybe their espresso drinks are a better option? They have a table with chairs outside and then more seating out in the street which is lovely, now that they closed off State Street to cars. I will have to just try again!
