D'une île

I was very excited about coming to this house. Lots of expectations. The house is beautiful and the surrounding are breathtaking. Also dinner was great. Our room was uncomfortable and with lack of charm. The bathroom consisted of three different closets with no design at all; our nightstands were two regular folding chairs The staff was Ok, they just did their job but didn’t make anything to make us feel at home. I’m glad I went to d’une ilê but I will never go back and I really don’t recommend it.

DONT STAY HERE. Rudest staff we’ve ever experienced! Terrible tiny portions! All they want is your money and you are treated as an inconvenience on the very young (pissed off/ underpaid staff who clearly don’t want to be there) there is also no manager on site. We come to Normandy from the UK regularly for holiday but this place is run by awful people. On arriving the staff stared at us like we were aliens, didn’t say hello. Rooms don’t come with keys, we had to specifically ask, they said “don’t worry nothing happens here,” the arrogance of youth! I have personal reasons for needing to sleep in a room that has a lockable door. One of us can’t eat wheat, the restaurants solution was… we serve a low gluten bread (okay…) they did nothing. Sans gluten, just means they remove the non gluten parts of the meal, if you don’t eat bread you will go hungry!!!! The main course for dinner was a quarter, yes you read that right, a quarter of a piece of cabbage. The lunch the next day was already gone by 1pm, a group of Parisians were eating pizzas when we got to the restaurant but apparently these aren’t for paying hotel guests! It’s really sad too as we were considering this place as a potential wedding venue. We couldn’t wait to leave this place, and at the end they had the audacity of asking why we didn’t leave a tip! After paying £2,000 euros for two nights here we are really quite sad, this is my first google review as our experience really was that bad, I had to warn people.

Restaurant review: When do you like your meals to peak? Here, as is so often the case, the meal peaks with the entree. Great egg, great sabayon, terrific jus and totally yum bread. We should have taken our win and meandered home. Entrecote is not fillet, but it need not be this tough. It was not inedible at all, but it should be better. The jus again was terrific, and more of that great bread. The cooked lettuce was....ok, with a salty sauce that worked well enough. The dessert was a decent ice cream with a few mirabelles, some plum sauce and a tuile. The culinary challenge equivalent of jumping rope. Not every one can do it, but enough can to not be special. The service was good and the setting lovely. We got to watch a lot of people chewing vigorously.

You can feel history in the buildings thrown together to form a little village. Now they are the rooms, suites, kitchens, cafe, lounge room. All decorated with old French stuff, looks like thrown together but sooo tastefully done and it oozes sustainability. The mini sauna is fantastic and has a great nature view. The pool too small to try for us but we heard children having a ball. We walked a 10 km trail through the beautiful countryside of nature park Le Perche. We really loved it here. And the staff is really very nice, they speak English well and serve de-li-cious and very original food in its ingredients and combinations. For the veggie, they made gorgeous vegetable replacements. This place is worth a detour. But let's not make it too crowded here......

We had an excellent stay! The food was unbelievable both nights in a row. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We personally enjoyed that they were not overly attentive and left us to enjoy the property and dinner. I found the dinner worthy of the price but the breakfast was overpriced in my opinion. Overall a wonderful stay and I’d certainly go back.

This is an update July 2025. I’ve gone back a second time. Last time was fall, this was summer. If it’s possible, I love the place even more. Would live there, if I could. I spent a decade writing some travel columns for a New York based luxury lifestyle website, and I only wish I was still working there so I could write a full-bodied review of D’une Ile. But maybe I don’t want THAT many people to know. ;-). This time my room was ground floor, at the end of a wing. Small but charming. With a big “French” window that opened to a view of the fields. Terrific bed and bed linens. Shower head a little cranky, but that is my only negative note. ( I bumped room stars up from last visit, and would be 5 but for the shower.) It worked, but sprayed in so many directions!! 10 pm sunsets. Leisurely meals. A great cat named Michelle. Stars filling the sky. Lounging by the pool. Sweating in the sauna. Pretending time can stop. My review from 2022 Just go. You’ll be glad. It’s the spot to serve a deep dive into rustic French countryside and old world vibes merged with a hip point of view. I’m praising it after a two night stay in a room that had no heat, which proves i can emphasize the virtues and not be brought down by problematic amenities. The virtues are the food and service and the beguiling charm of the cozy rough hewn dining room, in a setting that begs photographs. How two chefs in a tiny kitchen produce the meals they produce is worthy of you making the trip. Maybe spend the night nearby or be sure your heat is working before tucking in. Bring your fleece and an extra blanket. Get cozy. Just go.

Magical experience. Such a good spot to chill :) The pool is amazing, the staff is so sweet! The rooms are massive and cute and there are so many places on the property to read or play games. But honestly you could go here just for the food, its killer, lunch and dinner are both amazing. They only use local ingredients, some of the stuff is even from their own gardens. If you’re into farm to table food, you’ll love this spot. Wine is amazing too. Saw some people complaining about it being expensive, but in my opinion it’s not, I’ve never had better food at a chambre dhotes. This is next level.

We did not stay but visited the restaurant for dinner which is superb. If not staying you are on a wait list for reservations in case there’s an open table. We lucked out. 3 course set menu with generous portions all of Michelin quality.
