Sonic and Dunkin’ Both Launch Popping Boba Drinks This Summer | Eater

"Introduced “Popping Bubbles,” strawberry-flavored spheres that can be added to any iced or frozen beverage and are paired with the wide straw used for boba-style drinking; the company says the bubbles are made from a simple syrup with plant-sourced color and distinguishes them from tapioca boba by their softer, burst-in-the-mouth texture rather than a chewy consistency. The rollout — tested in Massachusetts before wider release — is presented as a new add-on option, but critics note that popping boba is already well established elsewhere and that avoiding the term “boba” erases the topping’s cultural provenance." - Jaya Saxena

I was staying at a hotel that was located close to this. Dunkin’ Donuts was happy it opened up early so I was able to walk there and get my morning coffee.

This is a horrible place there staff is so rude and disrespectful the guy had a attitude because he got MY order wrong then continued to say it was me but my Dunkin order said that it was right then said they didn’t have it in stock then when u asked for my money back they told me no I will never go to this Dunkin again

Update: Since the new manager took over, the café has been providing great customer service. It has been a wonderful experience since then. A few days ago, I ordered online medium coffee, Two donuts Frosted Chocolate, and Boston Cream. I went to pick my order, but The manager said they were waiting for me because the donuts I ordered were not available. She told me to go and choose from the available donuts. So I chose one Butternut and because there are not many types there. I chose coffee roll . And when the director heard that I had chose coffee roll. She told me to just pick a donut rudely. I said to her, I will pay the difference. she really made pay the difference 0.23 cents. The staff were very nice to me. at the same time nervous from their manager.

Classic Doughn's location with the freshest coffee. Will be back.

I have been ordering from this location for 2 years with no problem. I live 10 minutes away so I place the order when I leave my apartment. Usually there is never a problem, but today I showed up and my order was stolen, no big deal. I worked in food service for years and stuff like this happens on occasion. The problem that I have is that when the manager told me that my order was stolen, she didn't apologize and made it seem like it was MY FAULT. She remade my order, but told me she wouldn't make it again if it gets stolen again. It's not my fault that a mobile order got stolen 10 minutes after I placed it, it's the store's fault. Figure something else out if orders are stolen, don't blame your customers. Maybe Dunkin should hire a new manager that can handle conflict.

I would like to preface this by saying I always try and give the benefit of the doubt to any service worker, they are underpaid and under appreciated, and the issue here was really the manger, the rest of the employees were perfectly reasonable and nice. Today I placed a mobile order for a drink and bagel like I do everyday. I live across the street and this Dunkin can get kinda busy so I normally order when I’m headed out the door and then by the time I get downstairs and across the street it’s usually ready or ready in a few mins but it sometimes takes up to 20-30 mins on busy days (which is understandable when they are swamped). I place an order as usual but due to some issues with the elevator in my building I showed up 15 mins after placing my order. Definitely late so my bad but sometimes it does take that long. I walked in and my food wasn’t there. I am generally an anxious person so I wasn’t gonna cause a fuss right away so I waited for about 10 more mins and at which no one had asked me what I needed. So I assumed someone took it, no big deal it happens. So I tell someone at the front. The manager asks me how long it was and I told her. She immediately started laying into me about how long it had been and asked me if it was “reasonable” to expect my food to still be there after that long. I tried to explain that I came in only 15 mins after it was placed and that I don’t generally try to do that but there was an issue with the elevator. I wasn’t trying to make it about me I was just trying to explain I don’t make it a habit and I was happy to wait for them to make a new one. She then continued to berate me in front of everyone in the store for several mins about how it’s not reasonable to expect my food to be there and that they don’t have security. At this point I just said I would just like my food remade as I did pay for it. She then said they would remake it but only as a courtesy and that in the future she wouldn’t. I said I am a paying customer so either I am getting my food or I am getting a refund. I don’t liked o use that card but I was out 10 bucks if she didn’t fix the situation. She also at this point basically told me I was lying about being in the story for 10 mins when I brought up that it isn’t fair to keep saying 25 mins when I was in the store 15 mins after placing my order. She loudly asked all her staff if I had been there to which no one responded (bc they were busy actually working instead of fighting with a customer) and when no one responded and she shrugged and said “I guess you weren’t here”. She then told them to remake my stuff but only after they had served everyone in line and loudly complaining about me to the workers. Ex. Instead of just telling the person in the food line to remake a bagel she said “the girl over here that waited 25 mins to get her food needs a new one but wait till the customers who are actually here get there food first because we already made her order. At this point I told her to please not speak about my like that in front of everyone and asked her to please just be professional. Ironically it took about 20 mins after me asking to get my food. The guys who actually made my bagel was nice, hope is day goes okay despite his awful boss. I understand stuff happens and I totally would have respected if she gave me just a little heads up to place my ordered closer to my arrival time in the future but see decided to go on and lecture me for several minute instead. She also didn’t have any name tag or anything so I don’t know what particular manager it was. Also the iced coffee here is bitter, no amount of sugar can save it.

Yelp
There was only one guy working when we went on a Wednesday afternoon but he was so nice. They ran out of pumpkin donuts so he gave us two chocolate sprinkled donuts instead. We thank him very much for a great Dunkin experience.

Yelp
I've been going to dunkin' several times a day for years, and I've never felt the need to post a review until now. I went to this location to get a frozen coffee. First, I was waiting over 20 mins for my coffee, and once I received it, it was very dark. I asked the employee to add a little cream, and when he brought it back, it went from very dark to WHITE! obviously, a little cream wasn't something he understood. When I asked that they fix it, the Manger Debra, came over and told me they already made it twice (it was made once and cream was added to it) and they would not make it again because it would look the same. I was polite, I explained that every other location made it fine and even provided a picture of what it SHOULD look like. She told me pictures were deceiving! So I requested the corporate number to file a complaint because of how rude she was to me in a packed store, and her response was to look it up online, and she walked away. I asked the employee closest to me what her name was for the complaint, and she yelled from across the store that I could ask her. I explained that, unlike her ghetto a** I didn't feel the need to yell across a store when I could quietly ask someone who was closer to me. This "manager" is the worst type of person. Don't take your anger out on customers because you're 60 and working at a place you clearly hate. Whoever owns this location needs to do better when it comes to hiring and promoting employees. Not only do you have a rude, disgusting looking manager but your store is full of young people who would rather talk to each other and play on their phones than serve the customers that go in. Luckily, there are so many dunkin locations I don't ever have to go into this one again. And I strongly encourage anyone who doesn't want to deal with rude nasty people like Debra to avoid this place at all costs. Trust me. Btw, I ordered a frozen coffee on doordash later the same day from this location and it was made exactly right. So obviously Debra is a liar as well. I've included a pic so Debra can see that pictures are NOT deceiving. Bad service, long wait time, and rude employees. 0 out of 5 from me. So disappointing.

Yelp
No line and still waited 20 minutes for my coffee. Watched the manager on her phone while making it, told her I needed to go back to work I needed my coffee just to receive an attitude that she just finished making it. I don't know maybe do your job and get off your phone would be more time efficient. Also you would think a twenty minute wait it would've been made correctly, I guess my hopes are too high. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

Gillian C.

Yelp
Extremely rude manager!! They had a huge backup of orders and a PILE of the pink mobile order slips, that were obviously never made. They tried to blame ME for not getting the coffee fast enough (I came 10 minutes after I ordered on the app??) And that someone "took it" Every single person had to re order their coffee since they didn't even bother to look through the mobile order slips. I doubt some person came in in those 10 minutes and took EVERYONES coffees?? How unacceptable to blame the customers for their mess ups?

Megan M.

Yelp
bad service! manager was very mean when i told them my order was made wrong.. no access to bathroom if not customer which is messed up.. and against the law

Yelp
There must have been a lot of staff turnover (and perhaps different training) since the time some of the reviews for this place were written. I dropped by on a weekday morning around 8am and the employees were very pleasant to me. It was fairly busy but not crowded-- there was a constant flux of customers in and out of the store but a line never formed. The indoor space itself is tiny so the taped partitions meant to increase social distancing in line basically took up the entire indoor area. I only got a cold brew so I can't comment on the quality of the food, but my drink was as I expected. This place seems like a good location and setup for a quick grab-and-go coffee break. Even without the pandemic situation I wouldn't hang around inside because the space is small and could feel cramped very quickly.

Michel I.

Yelp
This location has a very rude staff. I asked for the rest room key and was refused. I was told I had to buy something first. I was there to buy coffee and couldn't hold myself long enough to get through the line. I opted to go to 7/11 which had better coffee and more choices. I have been working at Berklee on and off for 40 years and was insulted by this person's attitude. If you see a senior citizen who needs to use the restroom, give them the key!! I don't need your coffee and will no longer patronize your location! Add up all the years you've been in business and multiply that by $24. a day! your loss. I recommend avoiding this location.

Yelp
I am writing this review because if the absolute abysmal experience I just had. Normally, I go to the Commowealth Ave location because of poor experiences at this one. Sadly, that Dunkin is being renovated. Today, I placed an order and when I went to pick it up, it was not there. No issue. It happens. What should NOT happen is being shamed by the manager for taking so long to pick up my order, and getting told what to do "next time". I'd have peacefully waited. Instead, I got a hostile manager lecturing me and then arguing with me when I explained I did it this way because this Dunkin regularly takes 20-30 minutes to make orders, which is why I don't go unless I have to. She argued that wasn't true, but it happened enough I stopped going there. I will never be going to this location again, and will wait until my preferred Dunkin is open. Would give a zero if I could for the rude, hostile, nasty, and argumentative staff if I could. She opened IMMEDIATELY with hostility for no reason.

Yelp
The fucking lady r so fucking rude. Yall gotta kick her ass. And my matcha latte r tasting like bland whole milk

Brady B.

Yelp
The latte that I received was not as sweet as I liked, nor was it normal. It had a sour taste to it. The service was good for 6:30 am
google avatar

Rick F.

Yelp
It sure if it's just the short staffing but the people that are here are working in 2 speeds. Slow and stop. Good luck.

Jake V.

Yelp
terrible service and the slowest order to food delivery time i've ever experienced in a dunkin. I do not recommend going to this store if you are in a rush
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Disorganized usually dirty and orders often wrong . This place is one of the worst si jobs around and that's saying something

Candra P.

Yelp
Tried to come here at 6:30 and they said no lattes or anything all machines are closed. Wtf....30 minutes prior to closing. Staff was rude and basically said they are closed. All other locations are great!

Mairtin S.

Yelp
Understaffed terribly. Approx 10 mins wait for just 1 coffee at 6.30 am on average. Avoid

Yelp
Okay... reviewing another DD... yes... what can I say... I love them! Please venture out to CA... particularly SF? Pretty please! Anyway... my fellow design geeks and I were walking around in between sessions and someone wanted coffee and since DD is known for their iced coffee... why the hell not? Came in... again... friendly and prompt staff... in and out the door and mind you, we had 15 mins to spare since that's how long the in-between sessions...

Yelp
Highly suggest the breakfast menu with the eggs in a wrap. So delicious. The service wasn't lightning speed but it's fast enough. It's just a donut! down side: they don't serve classic syrup so if you want your iced tea or iced coffee to be sweet you have to use regular sugar.
google avatar

Trish F.

Yelp
Okay yeah, it's a Dunkin Donuts.. but I think this particular DDs has some heart. And awesome accuracy. I've been heading into DDs lately to get me some breakfast when I have time. Out of the 4-5 different ones I've tried as of late.. this is the one that rocks my socks. Sadly I can't always get to it, but you know.. I deal. I think the ladies (and the one or two men at this Dunkin Donuts) are really awesome. I pretty much change up my order every day.. sometimes toasted.. sometimes untoasted.. sometimes cheese.. sometimes no cheese.. and they're totally on their game. A lot of the time I see some elderly people in here and the workers have no problem stepping away from the counter to help them out or even do special requests from them. One of the women has a lot of trouble walking or even getting up to the counter and they are so sweet to her. Yay for hospitality in chains. :)
google avatar

Trish D.

Yelp
Walk in with my husband at 6:59 on a Friday night, we walked in 2 separate entrances because it's on the corner. 3 men behind the counter screamed at us "WE CLOSE AT 7" I said okay,WELL MAYBE YOU SHOULD LOCK YOUR DOORS. Walked a few doors down to Starbucks. This place is a disgrase.
google avatar

Flannery O.

Yelp
I feel ridiculous reviewing Dunkin Donuts but these guys deserve it. They are by far the friendliest, most efficient Dunkin Donuts I have ever been to in my life. Line out the door at 8:55am? No problem! I'll be at my desk and unwrapping my veggie egg white flatbread by 9. I've been coming here about 5 days a week for over a year now and I think I have had two messed up orders. Think about the odds on that.
google avatar

E D.

Yelp
Did Dunkin Donuts originate in Boston or something? Talk about a saturated Dunkin Donuts market... I'll stop in Dunkin Donuts for a coffee from time to time, but I must say that I don't enjoy their coffee that much. I like my coffee black with just a touch of sugar, but the coffee I get from there always feels like I am drinking a dessert. Then there are the occasions where I will ask for it black and they will still put cream and sugar into it...and I won't notice until I am a few blocks away. I am a fan of Starbucks coffee...I feel like Starbucks makes coffee the way it is supposed to be made....strong, aromatic, and flavorful. In terms of Dunkin Donuts food, I rarely eat there. I guess it's tough to mess up a donut. I know the muffins aren't that spectacular. Conclusion: I will stop here if I am hard up for coffee, but that's about it. Given the choice between DD and Starbucks, I will take Starbucks anyday...plus there is no difference in price between the two.

Yelp
This Dunkin Donuts location is terrible. The worst customer service ever. It's the closest one to my house yet I will never go here again. I consistently go to Dunkin Donuts every morning before work to grab an iced coffee as soon as it hits April. The customer service hasn't bothered me as much as in the past couple of weeks. It irks me that the person behind the counter doesn't smile. Is it me or something? I'm sorry that you're annoyed to be serving coffee, but it's too early in the morning to be in such a terrible mood. Because you are in a bad mood, you're poor customer service really puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Yes, maybe it's a little dramatic...but I thought maybe I was overreacting. I came to this exact location again this morning.....same thing. No smile, no real acknowledgement that I'm a paying customer. Then I was asking for an extra Splenda...and they just point over to some part of the store and roll their eyes. Stop working with people if you don't like working with them! Its annoying!

Yelp
It's been my dream to go to Dunkin Donuts. I always watched commercials for it growing up, but we don't have any on the West Coast. I finally had some when I went to New York recently and it was awesome. I wish we had a solid donut chain where I live. I was staying in Boston recently and this Dunkin was right outside the Convention Center that I had to go to everyday. But for some reason, the donuts here taste old. They're not fluffy at all, just cold and hard like 1-2 day old donuts. However, I relied on this place a lot during the week for espresso shots to keep me awake through all the lectures I had to attend. It's location is super convenient. And the donuts were fine enough.

Ji L.

Yelp
The best coffee in this area!!! Need i say more? Rating more based on the taste of coffee. Its a bummer there isnt wifi or restroom for customers here. Staff unfriendly. & Its not the cleanest.

Anne N.

Yelp
East Coasters really take dunkin donuts for granted!! I totally miss how quick and convenient it was to get a cup of coffee at all hrs of the day. Service is always fast. They have fraps, lattes, mocha, coffee with a ton of different flavors. I always looked fwd to their seasonal flavors too! Obviously they had a DONUTS, but i've never been a big donut person. However, I do like bagels!! They have a ton of different bagles with a few different cream cheese flavors as well! The Everything Bagel w/ chives cream cheese was my usual =) I wish CA had dunkin donuts, we could really use a quality coffee shop w/ super cheap prices!
google avatar

Allie L.

Yelp
Everyone seems to like this Dunkin' Donuts a fair amount so I'm sad to give it a bad review but this is by far the dirtiest D&D I've ever been to. I was shocked to see that there was a lot of dust and fluff in the sugar bin. The table I sat at was filthy and covered with dirt and leaves. Would definitely not go back. Customer service was alright but definitely not enough to make up for the uncleanliness.
google avatar

Yelp
This is MY dunks. Every morning the crew greets me with a smile and asks all sorts of questions haha they usually know my order unless I switch it up.. they even give me FREE hot-cups with my Iced coffee! (always a plus!) Every now and then when I decide on splurging and get a bagel..I'm always amazed that they still have my blueberry bagel! So yummy!

Ami L.

Yelp
Okay, let's face it. Dunkin Donuts is pretty mediocre. But I feel compelled to review this particular location, because it was the first Dunkin Donuts I had ever been to in my life. Aww, soft spot! *tear runs down cheek* Anyway. I grew up in a crappy, not-so-magical land called the south. There's no Dunkin Donuts in the sticks, people. If you wanted donuts, you went to Wal-Mart's bakery aisle (hence why I rarely had donuts... I don't much care for giving my gag reflex a workout, kthx). About six years ago (has it really been that long?) I came to Boston for the first time to attend a Berklee summer session thing. & as I looked down from the window in my room, I saw McDonald's & Dunkin Donuts. Oh boy, did I crave a donut. I went with a group of newly-made friends to grab donuts & Coolattas. While I probably can't judge correctly because I haven't exactly had donuts from many different places, I thought my donut was pretty good. The Coolatta was way better, though. We went back here at least once a day for the remainder of our session (something like three more days). I'm not a coffee person, but I did try an iced coffee from this location once, & it was actually drinkable. Lucky me! I don't go often (maybe twice a month), but recently I have enjoyed a nice sugar rush delivered from a Milky Way hot chocolate. They're also the only place near my apartment that has smoothies, & though they aren't as good as the Smoothie King I used to frequent, it takes care of my cravings. One thing you'll find is that just like every other food place, the quality can vary between locations. Sometimes the hot chocolate is watered down (WTF?), sometimes the donut is a little hard, sometimes everything is absolutely perfect & delicious. But Dunkin Donuts as a whole is still pretty average to me. They ARE pretty convenient though... one practically follows you everywhere you go. They're the Bank of America of donutteries! Hooray for that, I guess.
google avatar

Cameron R.

Yelp
This place is ok for quick food and coffee, but the staff is highly unfriendly and give off a general vibe of misery. They act angry that you would come in and order something. Overall, the food and coffee is pretty good though.
google avatar

Cassidy P.

Yelp
I just love Dunkin' Donuts. Being a Mass native now living in San Francisco, I run to the first one I see everytime I'm in town. When I was in Boston this summer, I had an iced coffee every morning and I'm not even a coffee drinker! Yes, they give you sugar (crunchy stuff at the bottom of the cup) instead of Starbucks' sugar syrup stuff. But you know what? I like it that way!
google avatar

Brenda H.

Yelp
"Nice. I love Dunkin Donuts. I'm a huge fan of their hot chocolate. Luckily for me, DD is located every block around town. We were just walking down Massachusetts and upon walking in, i was greeted with the typical greeting...nothing spectacular or below standard....but i didn't care. I was a west coast girl just trying to get my hot chocolate!!"

Yelp
Thanks for saving my life again with a medium ice coffee and a bagel egg and cheese. I don't know what people did with about hang overs before you?

Sabrina P.

Yelp
I've had to go to them frequently because of there location to my school but try not to because they are super sloppy if you want anything spread for example. They focus much more on getting orders done as fast as possible vs accurately

Renee W.

Yelp
Mmm. Love this Dunkin'. Small coffee, cream and sugar, perfect every time. And cheap! This specific location provided me with my first ever actual cup of coffee, and thereby fueled my addition for the next three years in college. Their coffee goes perfectly with one of those giant coffee roll donuts. So yummy. And don't get me started on the breakfast egg and cheese croissant. After a late-night recording session across the street at Berklee I'd stumble out at the crack of dawn and pick up a croissant and coffee in time for my first class. Or a late night hot chocolate and Boston Kreme donut (soo good!) for a chilly evening stroll around the Christian Science reflection pool. Many thanks to the Big D for getting me through my college years!

Abigail H.

Yelp
The ladies at the registers are super sweet and you can tell that there is a good employee environment. The manager, I'm assuming he's the manager, is a tall, very serious man but he is very respectful when taking orders and he knows his stuff. I'm very impressed with this Dunkin!
google avatar

Alison S.

Yelp
I've slowly become addicted to iced coffee, and I really do love their iced coffee with coconut. That is all I ever get. Now I've been to countless Dunkin Donuts throughout my lifetime, but I felt the need to review this place in particular because the people that are working there (at least when I go in) are some the the NICEST people, ever. If I had to pick one to go to when I'm living in Boston for 9 of the 12 months of the year, this is it.
