Okay, let's face it. Dunkin Donuts is pretty mediocre. But I feel compelled to review this particular location, because it was the first Dunkin Donuts I had ever been to in my life. Aww, soft spot! *tear runs down cheek*
Anyway. I grew up in a crappy, not-so-magical land called the south. There's no Dunkin Donuts in the sticks, people. If you wanted donuts, you went to Wal-Mart's bakery aisle (hence why I rarely had donuts... I don't much care for giving my gag reflex a workout, kthx).
About six years ago (has it really been that long?) I came to Boston for the first time to attend a Berklee summer session thing. & as I looked down from the window in my room, I saw McDonald's & Dunkin Donuts. Oh boy, did I crave a donut.
I went with a group of newly-made friends to grab donuts & Coolattas. While I probably can't judge correctly because I haven't exactly had donuts from many different places, I thought my donut was pretty good. The Coolatta was way better, though. We went back here at least once a day for the remainder of our session (something like three more days). I'm not a coffee person, but I did try an iced coffee from this location once, & it was actually drinkable. Lucky me!
I don't go often (maybe twice a month), but recently I have enjoyed a nice sugar rush delivered from a Milky Way hot chocolate. They're also the only place near my apartment that has smoothies, & though they aren't as good as the Smoothie King I used to frequent, it takes care of my cravings.
One thing you'll find is that just like every other food place, the quality can vary between locations. Sometimes the hot chocolate is watered down (WTF?), sometimes the donut is a little hard, sometimes everything is absolutely perfect & delicious. But Dunkin Donuts as a whole is still pretty average to me. They ARE pretty convenient though... one practically follows you everywhere you go. They're the Bank of America of donutteries! Hooray for that, I guess.
