Dunning's Gourmet Market & Deli

I now live out of state & am no longer able to enjoy this gem like before, but recently purchased a gift card to be sent digitally to a friend. Well, there was a technical glitch and the gift card was not initially received. I notified the manager and was in direct contact with Maureen, the owner, the very next day who went out of her way to make sure the gift card was resent & received. To top it off, she even added a little extra credit to the gift card, adding in the usual generosity and sincerity that makes Dunning’s Market stand above all others. So grateful for Maureen and Dunning’s Market for consistently going out of the way to be amazing!

Cute spot with a delicious chicken salad sandwich. The staff was friendly and it was pretty bustling on a Wednesday during lunch. Most people were in for take out but there’s nice seating in and out of the shop. The prices were a bit high in my opinion, especially for the coffees. For two people to have the chicken salad sandwich and coffee with oat milk and vanilla flavoring, the bill was over $40. The vanilla didn’t particularly come through that well so it seemed like a waste of the $2 upcharge. There aren’t prices on the chalkboard menu either so it’s a bit of a surprise when the total is being calculated. I wish I would have seen the drink cooler off to the side, I would have liked to try the lemonade. I thought they only had coffee or tea for their beverage options. Overall, it was a good experience so I would enjoy returning for another visit.

We worked with Maureen to cater our event, and she was fantastic! Super accommodating, incredibly helpful, and the food was delicious, as always. They gave us a beautiful spread, handled everything with care, and made the whole process super easy. We were thrilled with their service and truly appreciated all they did. Highly recommend!

It was my first time here. I had the jerk chicken burger. You have to tell them the toppings you want on the burger. I didn’t know this so my burger consisted of a patty, sauce, on pretzel bread. The patty is tasty. I wish it came pre-made with lettuce and tomatoes. The wait was long because there were only two workers. They had free dessert samples that were really good. I have to come back and buy their desserts.

We waited for several minutes with employees milling around behind the counter ignoring me. Someone finally came up and asked me "What do you want?" I said I was looking to order a sandwich, and they said that the deli was closed and they were only doing catering. There was nothing to indicate this in the store or on the website, and the employees all acted like we were a bunch of idiots for wanting to order food.

Very nice place, maybe even nicer than the Cherry Creek location. I ordered two sandwiches today, a corn beef sandwich and an Italian Grilled vegetable sandwich. Both were deliciously excellent. The corn beef sandwich was just tasty with the sourdough bread since rye wasn’t available. The grilled vegetable was fantastic but I do remember it being a little bigger bread wise with more vegetables to the sandwich. I’m already planning my next visit with my wife accompanying me since I’m always talking about Dunnings Market. Thank you to everyone.

Top quality, well prepared food in generous portions. The Thanksgiving Dinner was excellent. The store stocks many unique, hard to find food related items. The owner always makes you feel like a valued customer. One of the highlights of downtown Flossmoor. Highly recommended!

First time and this place is so cute! My Italian sub was made with really nice ingredients and my wife crushed her jerk chicken burger! Love the grocery aspect and can’t wait to return!

While in the area, I passed by this café and paused long enough to enter. It reminds me of a small market. I ordered a jerk chicken burger for takeaway that is gonna end up being a go-to sandwich because it was so good. There are several other sandwiches available, but the jerk chicken burger was a winner right out of the gate. Service was top, which also makes food taste that more delicious. I am not one to complain about price point. It's reasonable given the quality of what I had. It was fresh, not frozen. I will probably stop in for coffee and perhaps a snack at a later date.

Stopped in tonight for mustard and a drink. Left with that AND...lemon bar for a friend, flourless chocolate cake, salami and cheese for me. Seriously, we loved this place before COVID. We'd go for soup and a sandwich or one of the fabulous house made salads. The chicken salad is amazing! Since COVID, the inside has shifted a bit. Much less seating. But additional speciality grocery items. Think small European neighborhood store. There are just too many good things to say about this spot. Browse their webpage or better yet, stop I'm and talk to any of the amazing staff. They'll be happy to guide you through the many offerings for grab and go lunch or dinner for you to make at home. (I hear the supper club is fabulous.)

In town this summer visiting family and stopped at my Favorite European Deli & Sandwich Shop. I normally buy the freshly made delicious salmon/dill salad and chicken salad; the best ever. This time they were serving the Rueben Sandwich which they only offer once a week because it's made in-house and I know it's a process. The Rueben sandwich was amazing; and the flavors and tenderness of the corn beef meat is to die for. I miss this sandwich so much as it's hard to get this type of authentic tasting deli food in Houston. I hope they always stay in busy because they make and offer different food items daily. Also, their bakery items and coffee is so good. This is such a quaint deli shop for the Flossmoor area which is nice for quick bite or coffee break and lunch with friends or day date. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you're a cook you will really appreciate the change in menu items. Every salad and sandwich I've tried had a flavor burst to to your taste buds. Run to visit this place don't walk and give this local gem a try. Best wishes to the owner and chef whom I'm met before and takes much pride in her food and care for the customers.

I have never visited Dunnings Gourmet Market & Deli at their Homewood nor Flossmoor stores until today when a friend and I had lunch in Flossmoor. We arrived early (11 a.m.) when the restaurant was transitioning from breakfast to lunch. The menu was posted on a board and is a little hard to read; I would recommend that you pull up the menu on your cell phone or device. This is certainly true if you build your own sandwich. I had a turkey sandwich and it was great. The store ran into a glitch about payments via cash; I am sure this was one-time thing but make sure that you have some kind of ATM or credit card should this re-occur. I doubt that it will. Dunnings does have gluten-free bread and it is very good. There are a couple of tables, one small by the window, and a larger one near the front of the store. Wine, gifts and cooking spices are sold here. I am sure that I will return.

Dunnings Gourmet Market and Deli is a delicious deli serving the best sandwiches, freshest salads, and the most wholesome soups you can find. I'm always so pleased with the vibe of the market and the workers who are attentive and friendly. You can come have a tasty brunch or lunch by dining-in or grab food to go for your group. Great location and always the best.

I don't frequent the actual store but I do participate in the Supper Club. If you don't know what that is, you can can sign up to get emails for meals delivered-like those meal services but better! You can adjust from 2 people and up as well as add extras like soups or salads, wine etc. Prices are comparable too. Delivery is Tues- Thurs and you get to pick the day but not the time so hopefully someone is home. Over all it is a great option if you are running out of options on what to make or want to add something new to your rotation. The portion sizes are great per person at least for us. What I don't finish my husband will! Usually there is a chicken, beef, fish and veg each week to choose from. The only chicken option seems to be breasts while my family prefers dark meat so that can be trying. I wish they had an option to change that as I lose a choice on a meal I may want to try. I only had one issue with them and they contacted me right away to fix it, so no worries if something goes array with your order.

Good quality food. The staff was very helpful and friendly. But they are a little pricey. I wish their offerings were a little more affordable.

I've enjoyed this place since they opened in HOMEWOOD before moving to Flossmoor. Good food good products and good people.

My how times have changed. I ordered a tuna sandwich. What I got was a pre made cold sandwich. Kind of like the one you get at a gas station or 7/11. Except $5.00 more. I think it's time to close shop and stay home. Just make sandwiches for the family. Hopefully, the owners would do a better job. Thank you for Years of serving the community.

Went in looking for pâté and they had it! Then was recommended the Creamy Sexy Blue cheese to go with it. It's great and would say get both and don't share!

Everything is always fresh and unique I love this place! It is also a good place to have coffee and sit and work during the day.

Call ahead for your Jerk chicken burgervfrom this dining inside a market across from the station kinda place. I usually avoid sweet on my savory foods, but the dressing flavor works well with the Jerk spicy/tangy seasoning.

All the staples of a high-quality gourmet market & deli are at Dunning's. Creative menu with fresh, generous portions. Chicken Salad was full of flavor, unlike anything I've ever had on the Southside. Everything was delicious during my two visits.

First time here & this place is really nice. The chicken salad is amazing (I'm mad I got the 1/2 lbs) but I will be back for some more. Everything looked delicious & there's do much to try. I've heard great things about the Kale Salad so that's next on my list along with some other things.

Lovely owner and great customer service. You get what you pay for here! Top quality meats and amazing prepared foods. During the Summer they frequently grill outside! Excellent for catering and great attitude!

This Specialty Shop will keep you coming back for more. Besides having delicious bakery items, they make the best chicken salad ever! One never knows what new delicious delicacies they may come up with! There are amazing sauces to choose from, adorable gift items and dish towels with an artist's sketch of Flossmoor. Bought one for my home kitchen in St. Augustine, Florida. Great shop owned by a great family! Thanks for all you do!

Wow! This was a real find! High quality, excellent taste, very ample portion, lovely owner & co/worker, & very clean. Best ever Salmon raspberry chipotle sandwich on marble, chicken salad on whole grain, kale salad, potato salad, excellent cranberry orange scone that was so delicious & delicate & an Intellegentsia iced coffee. Every bite scrumptious! I believe the owner is Maureen if I heard her correctly. She has done a fantastic job & I'll gladly drive 45 minutes to get here again. Whoever gives the nasty reviews certainly has no class nor understands quality fresh food. We were food critics & have eaten at many restaurants. This lovely little gem deserves 5 stars.

The staff are very helpful and very kind. The food is amazing my favorite two things up there that I have tried so far are the salmon sandwich on the pretzel roll and the tuna with dill. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu! The set up is super cute and the music selection features dope throwbacks that will have you singing along.

I had to adjust my review for Dunning. Last night I bought half a pound of salmon salad and chicken salad. When I got home, I had some for dinner. Immediately after eating the salads, I started to feel not very well. I didn't think much of it at the time so I shortly went to bed. I woke up this morning from intense stomach cramps and have been sick all morning. I even called off work because intense gut issues from the food. Now mind you, I've eaten here a couple times and I've been fine. And yesterday for lunch and breakfast, I eat what I normally eat and never get sick. This morning I decided to go to Dunnings to tell them what happened and get my money back from the product. As soon as I tell them what happened and how I got sick they became defensive over the product. It was a conversation of them stating that there are 100 percent sure it's not the food they made and it's from something else. And of course it consisted of me trying to defend myself. Granted, they did give my money back but I'm extremely disappointed and upset of how they handled it. It's not business minded. I should not have to defend myself or be looked as a liar because your product was in an unsanitary condition. In addition, they stated that others would be sick as well if the problem was in their product. Well everyone's stomach is not the same and I arrived at 9am to return the product--who knows, a customer might arrive later in the afternoon. Again, I didn't appreciate how they handled this at all. It was completely unprofessional and I will not return nor will I refer anyone here. P.S. Dunning...You should take a complaint and listen. Apologize and move on. And be sure this doesn't happen to someone else. This is business minded in case you didn't know.

My partner and I joined the supper club. This is beyond convenient but certainly not ordinary take-out by any means. Every meal is "curated" by whoever went to culinary school over there. The menu items are creative, fresh, and generously portioned. The flavors and textures are balanced and need only be paired with the right beverage. Since signing up with this service, I feel like a member of the upper crust every Tuesday night. Any working professional will appreciate the quality of this service. Sign up!

First "market" I have EVER been to where it takes MORE THAN 30 MINUTES to get two sandwiches that are not special orders. The people here give an entire new meaning to slow motion smdh At least I know I never need to come to this place again it probably takes 20 min to buy a pop. They should do themselves a favor and go out of business

I came for lunch and ordered their jerk chicken burger and wasn't too impressed. It's basically grounded Up chicken into a burger patty, in between a pretzel bun with raspberry chipotle jam. It unfortunate sounded better than it tasted. Although it had a tiny kick to it, still lacked a lot of the flavors that "jerk chicken" is supposed to have. They should try to infuse a raspberry jam with Jerk chicken sauce to add flavor and add a better kick to it. Overall it did taste good, just missed a lot of flavor. Probably won't be returning.

Dunniings Market is a great little specialty food store. The only problem is size. Because it is so small, the selection is necessarily limited. On the other hand, the senior staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. They have made special orders for me so that I could surprise my wife with a gourmet meal. It's one of the best places to get fresh seafood in the south suburbs. Just remember to call a few days ahead. Dunning's serves sandwiches and has fresh home made soups. On the weekend (and maybe during the week) they will sometimes grill fresh burgers and salmon. They also carry a selection of wines and frozen fresh pasta, tamales and sausages. Also, this is one of the only places nearby where I have found Boar's Head cold cuts--which are very much worth the price. They have fresh made meals for you to cook at home. We had Beef Wellingtons for Christmas last year. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If they don't know, they will find out, and then call you back. For real!

Three stars for service, there is no clear place to order or to pay. I stood randomly in the middle of the store until someone told me to order at the counter. Five minutes later that same person came up from the front of the store to take my order. Their tuna salad was excellent, though served on stale bread.

Pretty good but since when it Boar's Head gourmet? One rude employee (when we were surprised at the length of time to make sandwiches) and we almost left. Bernsteins is a better choice for atmosphere and selection. Sandwiches were pretty good and the potato salad was delicious. $1.50 for a can of pop is ridiculous.

My benchmark for a 5-star rating? Would I tell someone who is in the remote vicinity of an establishment to go out of his/her way to check a place out... Dunning's fits the bill! I found this establishment by chance on my way to Panera with my manager. SOOO happy we b-lined for this one of a kind unique place with excellent food! I had a shrimp sandwich and my manager had the roast beef. Both were excellent with bread/buns that made the meals even better! I'm in sales so I will REMEMBER this place when "duty calls" for a dependable food provider. The experience of talking to other diners while they are eating about their favorite menu selections was one of a kind. The owner was awesome complete with a great attitude and passion for her business. I can't wait to visit again!

We had Dunning's Market cater my son's open house. Maureen was a life saver! The food was fresh and made to order. Everything was made fresh and delivered to my home. She even came in and set everything up. Wow! Just wow! The compliments were endless all afternoon. I would absolutely use them again.

Love the fresh food, especially the meats! Great place for lunch, and their Supper Club is fantastic for a no-prep home cooked meal. The owner is so helpful, and is happy to share recipes and cooking tips. Excellent staple in the neighborhood!!

Oh Lordy, who would think that chicken salad could put me in a state of nirvana? If I had not tried this supreme dish, my quality of life would be sorely diminished. Served on a pretzel bun and seasoned to perfection, this sandwich is a must-try! Truly everything here is pretty damn good but it's like Groundhog Day because I can't seem to order anything else.

I've never had a bad meal there. Sandwiches fresh. The prepared meats you can take home and come ok are delicious and great salads.

This was a very good sub, it tasted home made in which it sort of was. I will be back. The service was very good to, its made to order so you'll have to wait about 15 minutes for them to make your sandwich right.

I miss this place! It's NOT closed, I just gave up meat. Lol But I think about that chicken salad often. It's the best I've ever had. The owner is always there and has the best energy, very friendly and kind. I asked about a certain type of cracker when I was eating the chicken salad on a regular basis, initially they didn't carry it but now it's a staple. Great place!

Not sure what is "gourmet" about it...They serve Boar's Head meats, which are definitely not gourmet, or even natural or local. I guess I don't really get what this is supposed to be- a restaurant or a market? There is a menu at the door, and a deli counter and some tables. It's cute, but not really healthful or upscale or gourmet. The products they carry aren't that interesting. Nothing seems to be organic, local or exciting and they don't even have fresh bread- it's all frozen. And for a meat market, there wasn't any fresh meat. I guess I don't understand why it's so hyped.

Nice staff, quality food, community gem. I often enjoy a morning coffee, weekend breakfast, and occasional salad and sandwich. The packaged food is also very good and out of the ordinary.

Love it. I feel sorry for Panera for having the incredibly bad idea of opening next door. Dunning's is what Panera pretends to be. Healthy fresh food made with love. Chicken salad is a local institution. Great sandwiches and salads. Assorted gourmet items for sale as well. Best Italian sub I've ever had. Never had a bad experience and am thanked by everyone I send here the first time.

A bit pricey, but understandably and well worth it. I have eaten here quite a few times and never eaten anything there that wasn't delicious. The ultimate rueben is definitely one of my favorites.

I had stopped in this restaurant once before but didn't order. I grabbed a menu instead and promised to be back another day. Well, I'm glad I kept my promise! I tried the salmon pasta and a half sandwich! It was delicious. I would come back just for the pasta! I ordered a half corned beef sandwich and my lettuce was crispy and crunchy. You can tell it was fresh. The staff was pleasant also. I will definitely be back to try more food and I'll be bringing my husband along too!

The Famous Chicken salad and the Kale salad is a home room. This spot is a diamond in the rough. They carry some healthy to go items and gourmet sauces, seasonings and fresh meat.

Update: been back several times: The Chicken Salad, Kale Salad, Smoked Salmon Pasta Salad....basically everything they have to offer is delightful! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and owner. Definitely one of my favorite places in the Ho-Flo!

Best place around for St Patrick's Day corned beef!

I never submit reviews but felt compelled so other Yelper's are aware. We were in the area for the Synchro IL competition so Yelped for local place to eat. Reviews helped decide to stop in for sandwiches. The sandwich was average and overpriced in my opinion. A sandwich and soda $16. WOW!!! So if price is not displayed ask before purchase, is my tip to first timers.

Absolutely love this place. Just started coming here three days ago and have been each day ever since. Will probably be back tomorrow too. The food here is soooooo good and the service is superb. I highly recommend it.
