8 Best Hot Dog Spots in Durham, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"When it comes to budget-friendly dogs, it’s hard to beat Dollar Dog Night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Thursdays, during the season, Sahlen’s all-beef hot dogs go for just $1. Few things are more American than hot dogs and baseball, and here, you can indulge in both without breaking the bank. It’s also the cheapest (and boldest) way to attempt the infamous Nine Innings Challenge — that’s one hot dog and one beer per inning." - Gabi Mendick

I didn't see Kevin Costner here at the ball park but what I did see was a beautiful baseball field located in a great city. The 360 view of the ball field and surrounding area was amazing. You saw old factories and buildings converted to apartments, businesses and shops. It's easy walking this area because there is so much to see and do.

Google
This has got to be the best minor league stadium I've ever been in. Great food and drink options, not a bad seat in the place, the crowd is into the game and you get to see quality baseball. Came here for the 4th of July fireworks and was thoroughly impressed.

Google
Awesome experience. Great to watch the Durham Bulls play baseball with family. I went on firework night. Amazing!!!!

Google
A beautiful park. The Durham Bulls staff were a pleasure to meet. I was there to see the field and they were happy to help. Brady directed me to the old Durahm Athletic Park (see the Old Bull)

Google
Fantastic ballpark. The whole place was clean and well maintained. The fireworks show was great too. We hope to be back again for another great game of baseball.

Google
Absolutely beautiful ballpark. Not a bad seat here, always great food and drink options, and the fireworks at the bulls games are worth the price of admission alone! Love this place

Google
It had been several years since I had been there, and it's even better than it was. It was $1 hotdog night, and they were a great start to the evening. Despite the hot day, the temperature was quite pleasant - thanks to the ceiling fans over our seats. Our view of the action (the game and all the inning break activities) was great - we could see everything. Even the parking was acceptable. My husband needed to at least minimize stairs and walking, which the lot and elevators made possible. The stadium staff, from traffic direction to greeters to concession hosts, were fantastic - enthusiastic and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

Google
Great evening with our grouo of 30! The Bulls won and the fireworks were amazing.

Yelp
A Durham Bulls game is always great family friendly fun! This is a nice stadium with good food and beer options. There is an inflatable obstacle course for kids. The fireworks shows are spectacular.

Yelp
We felt like catching a ball game and it was a great day to visit Durham. We visited the store and got us a couple of shirts, which we wore for the occasion. And as the tradition goes, hot dogs w everything and peanuts were the best to eat. Durham bulls won that evening, so it was definitely a great day at the ballpark.

Yelp
A Must visit in Durham. Go Bulls If you like baseball come hang here So many sports in the area, what's not to love?

Yelp
Mother's Day trip to the DBAP, to see the Bulls take on the Nashville Sound. It was a great game - Bulls came from behind and won it by one run. The stadium is reasonably comfortable. There aren't any bad seats. Pro tip - opt for seats in the shade. This was an afternoon game and we sat on the 3rd base line, toward the outfield. It was scorching even though the temp was only in the 70's. Luckily sun was behind us for the last third of the game, so we got some relief. Bathrooms are clean and plentiful. Plenty of concessions serving all the baseball park standards. DBAP is a great, family friendly place to see some baseball. It's especially fun to see some MLB players rehabbing in a more casual setting. If you're a baseball fan, this is a great park to visit. #GoBulls #GoRays

Yelp
I've not been for a game so this is a mid-post. We went as a family for a company picnic. The event was ok however I'm grateful it was company sponsored as the cost for what was available wasn't what I would expect for work. We actually thought the best part was waking and seeing the lights in the Tobacco Area shops and restaurants.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to take the family when wanting to get out the house. Of course traffic is horrible in this area at certain times.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for families and/or friends to enjoy a game. Great food too! Have a beer or two and enjoy a great game!
google avatar

Dawn D.

Yelp
Great place for a baseball game. Good visibility all over the stadium. The hype man was great and there were lots of good options. We even got to run the bases after they won their game!

Yelp
Nowadays it's becoming increasingly difficult to find fun local activities that won't break the bank. A lazy afternoon and less than $20 can get you an entertaining night of baseball complete with hotdogs, beer, and cracker jacks among other sweets and treats. In between play Wool E. Bull will keep you and kids entertained with various antics. Coming to a game you will get a very local and positive Durham experience. Tips: Friday and Saturday nights are many times fireworks nights which are worth staying for. No outside food or drink and I recommend getting a 32oz drink in a souvenir cup. Park in the North Parking deck for a short walk through the tobacco district but it's less traffic after the game than the deck directly across from the stadium.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place!!! Super clean and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Lots of activities going on. Great for all ages!!!

Yelp
First time at the DBAP since I moved to the area back in 2005. My wife got invited to a client appreciation event by a local mortgage company , so we went. Parking was a bit confusing probably because we weren't familiar with anything, but the directors of traffic were helpful. Finally, we ended up at the North parking deck. We had a nice walk to the baseball park and once there, the ushers were quite helpful getting us to the party deck area. Food consisted of pulled pork, shredded chicken barbecue, hot dogs, mac n' cheese, and coke slaw; all of which were delightful. Drinks consisted of just about every soda you could think of, water, beer and wine. The Bulls won the game and all in our party had a great time. I had no idea what I had been missing! We'll be back! Had a great time!

Yelp
Love going to baseball games here! The bathroom facilities are excellent, and are always clean. They have multiple food vendors, both permanent and temporary locations. Was slightly bummed that the Locopops vendor was not present at the last game, but I am hopeful for their presence at future games. Parking is convenient in the nearby garage, and the short walk to the stadium provides much entertainment, as there are some subtle water features which intrigue many young children. The food prices are on par with other stadiums.
google avatar

Yelp
How could you not love the Durham Bulls stadium? It's such a cute place to spend a Friday night. There are some good options for snacks and drinks. There's also many great food options within walking distance for after the game. They try to keep you entertained throughout the whole game, which is fun. The smallish size of the stadium means there are no nosebleed sections! I love the Durham Bulls and I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
This is a great little baseball park. The ticket prices are pretty inexpensive and the concessions are tasty. I love that they have so many different beer options. Most Friday nights they have fireworks after the game.
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
The stadium and area is gorgeous! We chose seats in the outfield and the view of the field did not disappoint. The outfield area is great - there are bathrooms, kids area, beer tents, ice cream and a food truck. If you want more food options, the concession stands are down the stairs by the main stadium seating. Like most stadiums, you can bring in a sealed bottle of water! The food and seating prices were good- we frequent minor league stadiums all over and this is up there on my list! They did a really great job of keeping the fun, family feel with all the fan involvement. We had a rain delay but they kept everyone updated and I saw multiple employees with umbrellas walking people to covered areas or escorting them to the bathroom to help keep the fans dry. The fireworks show after the game was amazing! The "old school" scoreboard, the bull that lights up and the friendly staff only added to the fantastic experience we had during the game.
google avatar

Yelp
It was a nice partly sunny day to spend the afternoon at a DBAP Game! Great time with friends. Caleb was able to run the bases after the game which made his first time attending a baseball game that much more special! Thank you DBAP!

Yelp
Great place to watch a baseball game!! Love the wide array of options for eating and drinking. Really fun atmosphere. Fun fireworks. I'd caution anyone who is allergic to peanuts, though. There are a lot of peanuts being eaten all around and peanut shells on the ground.

Yelp
Parking has gotten slightly better since my last review, I think what it comes down to is knowing where to park. Since I've been visiting Durham more I know where to park now. I would recommend the parking next to the court house and you can enter the stadium on the back side. They have plenty of local food vendors from Durham. They have Italian ice and ice cream. And of course plenty of beer/alcohol. The food stands normally start closing down during the 7th inning so make sure you get something to eat/drink before then. It's been a while since I've been to a Durham bulls game and it's just as fun as it used to be! Definitely kid friendly and family friendly. They have this playground in the back of the stadium the kids can play at if they get bored of watching baseball. They have plenty of the characters walking around the stadium with the costumes on. They also have bark in the park twice a year it's where you can bring your dog to the park and watch a game. They have one in the spring and one around the end of summer. It's always fun bringing your dog to the park and seeing all the other dogs. Plus they have so many dog vendors set up at the park that day.

Yelp
Waited on pizza for 1 hour 20 minutes, funnel cakes had so much grease ot was dripping off the plate. Bathrooms are dirty. Staff is beyond rude. They shut down merchandise stands while people were in line. Went to see Savannah bananas but I'd never go there again.
google avatar

Yelp
There's a minor league team here in Maryland, but it's different from the vibes created by the Durham Bulls, their staff and their fans. It's very Friday Night Lights to me and I love that energy: it's like you can physically grasp the hometown pride. This was my second time visiting the park for a Bulls game - first time, we had a private space in the John Deere Bullpen (super cool to witness the game from that POV), and this time, seats near the dugout. The games are as fun as the people you come with, so luckily for me, I've had a blast each time. The location of the park is excellent and very walkable. Garage parking right next door with special rates for games and local police guiding traffic.
google avatar

Yelp
Here's the tip before the rest of the review: If you get here early enough, you can tell people that you're headed to one of the nearby restaurants instead of having to pay to park. So good luck with that. I arrived super early to get a good table at Tobacco Road but that was early enough to get into the ballpark for battle practice. This is a great park. Lots of seating, several sky boxes, comfortable seats and lots of fan engagement. Parking is super easy with lots of lots nearby. It's on the campus of several large businesses so I found it not completely easy to navigate but they have signage and that really helps. Charlotte Knights at Durham Bulls. Great to see the bull light up for home runs but the home team didn't hit enough of them because Charlotte won, 9-3. [Review 11674 overall, 1456 of 2019.]

Yelp
Lovely venue! However, a lot people are not wearing masks. It's definitely go at your own risk. The music, side entertainment, and game are the reasons to go. They also have Pie Pushers inside the stadium. However, I don't know the cost.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Went to my first game yesterday and got food poisoning from the pizza. Horrible, violent sickness that entire night. Knew something was up with the food within about 20 minutes of having it. Other than that, was a good experience hahaha
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
We came here with another couple on a Saturday night. Come early for parking ($7) as there are several restaurants in walking distance. Very clean and organized stadium with clear signage. Not too big and comfortable seats with good visibility. The firework display was outstanding and lasted several minutes! Variety of food to choose from: hot dogs, pizza, Chick fil A, Rita's Italian ice, chicken tenders and fries, cotton candy among others.
google avatar

Troy B.

Yelp
This is a great ballpark! Durham is lucky to have something like this in the area. There are several parking decks right next to the ballpark. Of course, it is pay to park, but it is reasonable... I think it was $7. There are several bars, restaurants and places to hang out right next to the ballpark that you can go to before or after. We didn't do this, but lots of people do. We attended the ACC 2019 baseball tournament. This ballpark is clean and the staff seem quite competent. A large majority of the seating is under an awning with large fans which is great on hot days!! I doubt there are many bad seats in the house. It is not a huge ballpark so even if you are not right on the field, you feel close to it. They sell beer, soda and food- prices are kind of what you would expect. 7$ for a beer.. as an example. This place is fantastic. I plan to return to other games in the future.

Yelp
We love visiting DBAP for Bulls games, especially on fireworks nights. Great family environment with lots of entertainment for the kids. This is a well laid out ball park with lots of different vendors to choose from and all are easily accessible. The only thing I would like to see is a broader variety of foods, meaning "healthier" foods. The concessions typically have "Ballpark " type food which consist of burgers, hot dogs, pizza and the like. However it would be nice to have some different vegan options, looks like they have 1 option currently which is a vegan burger, and it's not bad but not the greatest either. I would love to see something like a falafel wrap with hummus and veggies and rice or a veggie stir fry bowl or possibly a pizza with vegan cheese or no cheese option. I definitely get the ballpark culture is all about having comfort foods at the ready and DBAP covers that well but having some healthier options for those that prefer to eat healthier would be a great addition to a great venue while enjoying our hometown Durham Bulls.
google avatar

Cristina S.

Yelp
I love coming here and watching the Durham Bulls play! I always get good seats. It's very clean and well maintained. The only negative would be getting to the actual stadium. Last time we came, we had to go all the way around due to traffic, but you can't control traffic during big events! Food was also pretty good.
google avatar

Yelp
Seems kind of odd to write a review of a baseball park during a pandemic that canceled Minor League Baseball, but the Bulls organization is still top notch and helped my company (WGU North Carolina) host a group of military families for two Military Family Nights. Safety precautions were in place and families had to sign waiver forms and state that they did not have any COVID-19 symptoms. The families got to play catch, run the bases, take batting practice, play cornhole and connect four, and just enjoy being outdoors. In between each session, they sanitized the equipment. Every family received a bag of swag upon their departure.

Yelp
Great Ballpark in the heart of downtown Durham. Lots of construction happening around the stadium (new condos, apartments, etc) to make Durham more walk-able. Wasn't here for a game, but a beer festival. All the vendors were set up around the stadium so you got a feel for the place since you had to pretty much go all over the stadium. What I learned: there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The nice thing about this stadium is that it's super intimate and accessible for family/community fun. I need to make it up to see a game at some point, but since Charlotte has the Knights, it's a hard case to drive up for minor league baseball, but at least the option is there. With the construction downtown, there are good parking decks to handle the influx of vehicles. Nearby businesses in converted factory buildings share the downtown space and are really providing a nice spot for live, work and play.

Yelp
The Durham Bulls camp out. My Girl Scout troop and I enjoyed the game at the Durham Bulls stadium for their bi annual Durham Bulls camp out. This time I had my husband drop me off but the parking is great. There are some spaces in front of the stadium if you are lucky enough to get them. But there are parking garages in the area. This particular game was packed with children because of the camp out but it was a joy seeing them having fun. The stadium was well kept and shortly after the game was over the staff started to clean up. They did it quickly too. When we signed up for the event we were under the impression that the troops would get a meal with their ticket but the ticket was only worth $5 and the girls were only able to get 1 thing I felt like they should have least given them more so that they can get a hotdog + a drink or chips. This was a big downside because by the end of the night they were hungry. Sleeping in the field was really nice. We enjoyed it and not at any moment did we feel it was unsafe. Overall good night just the food thing is what kind took us back.

Yelp
Having visiting Durham for my son's baseball tournament, we decided to check out a Bulls game. Being from the Central Ohio area, we are spoiled with having one of the finest Minor League baseball facilities around in Huntington Park. But I will say this ranks pretty close to Huntington. The day we attended was Meet the Bulls Day where fans can go onto the field and play catch and get autographs from the Bulls players. My son and his friend was able to get many signatures. After the meet and greet, we explored the park and noticed many unique food/drink options. There is more variety than what we are use to with Huntington Park. Being health conscious, I especially appreciate the vendor selling fresh fruit! It was so popular, that by the sixth inning he was down to 2 servings of watermelon (that we bought ). The layout is more compact than Huntington but not having a crowded feel even though it was standing room only! Our seats were in the upper section behind home plate and was under shade the entire game with a good breeze blowing the whole time. Prices are pretty standard for ballparks so it's not cheap but not outrageous either. Parking was available at a garage 1 block away and getting in and out was painless. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Really cool park, built by the same folks that built Jacob's Field for Cleveland, and the Akron Rubber Ducks teams. Similar in appearance, but has way more places to eat, sit and to do. Very impressed with the smoking bull, the games between innings, and the food. I'll be back. Not a bad seat in the house.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
This was an awesome environment for a group. We had a blast inside and out with all the entertainment options. It was a lot of fun to see the bull light up and start smoking each time a home run was hit. Definitely a fun place for all types of groups, family or just a few friends.
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
What a joy it is to see a sort-of-serious baseball game so close to where I live! One trouble is the Bratwurst stand allegedly only operates on Thurs-Sun. That is disappointing.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Awesome place to watch a game of baseball! Visit the gift shop on the way in for some swag, grab a beer and find your seat to cheer on the Bulls. Bull Durham is now brewing up beer inside the stadium. Check out their promotional schedule to see what is going on each game. My personal favorite is Bark in the Park since you can bring your four legged friend to the game. Just a note, get there early if you are sitting in the lawn. Check them out because baseball and beer equal fun.

Yelp
We have been wanting to visit this stadium for awhile now and I am so glad finally we did!!! We brought our 2 year old and 9 month old... And plan to leave them home the next time we come! The stadium itself if pretty cool. There seems to be a lot of seating. We unfortunately didn't buy tix in advance so all they had left for the sold out game was lawn... Which worked out ok bc we brought an umbrella stroller in with us. We ended up just staying up by the Handicap seating (with the idea that if we needed to vacate, we would.) love the bull in left field that moves and smokes when HR is hit! There seemed to be a lot of different food options here! Did not take full note of all of them but got chicken tenders/fries and then a BBQ joint to get sweet potato fries. Kind of disappointed when the BBQ worker suggested me stacking my food on top of each other to carry it because on the way back to our seat, the top food slid off and fell on the ground and I lost 3/4 of it. :-( We did notice that they brew their own beer here?!?!?? We did not sample it at this visit, but again, am looking forward to returning, sans kiddos to get to explore the park (and surrounding area) some more! We LOVE coming here! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I am embarrassed to say that we have lived in this area for over 20 years and this was our first Durham Bulls Game ! The ballpark is awesome !!! If you ever get a deal on tickets it is definitely worth it. We were with a group and were fortunate to be seated in one of the covered, seated areas. We had food and drink provided. Lots of beer and wine and hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings. Delicious for a lunchtime game. Being in a covered area also made it much cooler. My only complaint is PARKING !!! They seem to always be doing construction in this area. There are a few parking decks but be prepared to WALK !!!! We stopped on the way out and got some ice cream from Two Roosters. My husband liked it. I'm not a fan of cookies and cream so I won't comment.
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
I went when they had a Groupon for terrace view seat for $6! Which was for only Thursday's but Thursday's, they have a $1 special for hot dogs, popcorns, and sodas! They do have vegetarian hot dogs but they take 20 minutes to get the buns and they'll serve them cold. My gf turned from "vegetarian" to meat lover in the time we spent waiting lol (she's not really vegetarian. She was just trying to eat healthy) There are parking decks within a few blocks ($6) but you definitely want to get there early! It gets cramped pretty fast. Street parking is also available but they are usually gone at least 30 minutes prior to the game time. DBAP is clean and family friendly! Very affordable tickets. Make sure to check out their website for special offers. Whether you're a baseball fan or not, you'll have fun! Great for families or date night out.

Yelp
My grandmother and I drove to Durham from Carolina Beach to catch a game at DBAP. We got parking easily, even on an otherwise busy day(education themed - the stadium was full of kids visiting during the school day). The communication before the game was actually very thorough, as I had even received an email the day before about parking availability and recommendations for lots. I had printed tickets, so we were scanned in quickly. I purchased some items from the team store and we made our way onto the main floor to check out concessions. After purchasing some popcorn, a hot dog, and some coffee then we were on our way to our seats. The tickets I had purchased were 4 rows behind home plate, and my grandmother was excited to be sitting so close. Although the Bulls ultimately ended up losing the game, the day at the park was most definitely a good time. Since we were crunched for time (long drive from Carolina Beach and back), I didn't get to have as much time exploring the area around the park before or after the game; however, what I did see was awesome. I'm excited to perhaps get back here for a game during my next visit down South. Had a great time. :) TL;DR Wonderful day at the ballpark. Very clean, reasonable prices for tickets and concessions, and just a great variety of things to view, see, and do. Would love to come back.

Yelp
Great Ballpark in an excellent location! Over the years I've been here at least a dozen times - mostly for ball games but also for a few beer festivals. I've always been impressed with how clean and well maintained the stadium and its grounds are kept. Considering it was built back in 1995, they've really put some effort and $$$ into remodels and renovations. The last big one was back in 2014 I believe. The tickets to a Bulls game are still pretty inexpensive for family entertainment. The concessions and beer are reasonably priced as well. There's a really cool open air bar overlooking the field and separate sections for private parties. I went to a couple of Corporate events here and always had a blast!
google avatar

Jude A.

Yelp
They have a new bag policy where they don't let you bring in a bag bigger than a post card and they have no place for you to store your bag or check it. We didn't drive to the game so had no car and their only suggestion was for me to hide my bag in the bushes. Kind of unfair to women as they typically have purses and shallow pockets. So even though we couldn't go into the game because of the whole bag situation, it's a whole ordeal to get a refund. I still haven't gotten one.
google avatar

Angie P.

Yelp
Gorgeous stadium, awesome food options, nearby parking (at $5), reasonable ticket prices ... such a win-win! Milo & I came to a recent "Bark in the Park" event & had a blast! I love all the signage on the outfield & the large video board is so clear & bright. Friendly & helpful employees.

Chuck M.

Yelp
"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is". The adage sums up the "unlimited hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, chips and soda package offered by the Bulls. They were served buffet style resulting in all three choices being served cold. As far as the sodas were concerned, while being unlimited, you could only have one for each each trip through the line which turned out not to be a problem since they were luke warm. After my one and only trip, I decided to cut my losses and use the regular concession stands for future food purchases. I have been attending Bulls games since 1998 and can honestly say this is the first time I ever felt taken advantage of by the organization. I felt like I was at an MLB game.

Yelp
This is a great little stadium. We love coming here to watch baseball and hangout with friends! We usually buy the cheapest tickets then sit at one of the bars and hangout. I love all of the food and drink options. I appreciate how many "local" food and drink options they have too.

Jamie F.

Yelp
One of my least favorite ball parks. The pulled pork sandwich was okay, but the hot dogs made us sick. I wouldn't eat here again.
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
Great seats no matter where you sit. We were is 212 and price was $10.74 each. Over 55 or a student you'll get a discount. Great family fun, just surprised you had to pay for kids to play on playground. Cold beer, lots of food choices, even healthy fruit cups of fresh produce. On Mother's Day free manicures, massages and t-shirts were available. Parked on the street for free and trying to get in some steps before sitting for 9 innings.

Yelp
Great spot for families in the summer! Great food options! Good beer. Love the Budweiser picnic area. A little pricey on food, but great atmosphere.

Yelp
I had such a fun time coming here with a few of my friends to see Durham play Charlotte before the 4th of July weekend. The fireworks show was great. Perfect for a fun family outing. There are tons of options for food and drinks here. They even have vegetarian/vegan friendly options around the park. There were several food trucks and countless stands to choose from. The staff they had answering questions around the park were nice but didn't seem to be very confident in their answers when we asked where we could find specific things. They have a seating area with umbrellas near the large bar on the top level which was a really convenient place to just chill and enjoy our food/drinks before going to our seats. My only complaint would be the prices. Cocktails start at $10 (count on needing at least 2 or 3 to feel anything). I believe beers started at $7. They have Bold Rock cider on draft for anyone avoiding gluten, I believe also priced at around $7. Yeah, I know, ballparks and sporting events are always overpriced, I just wish they weren't. Wishful thinking? Probably. The food wasn't TOO pricy, but the portions are fairly small. Fair enough. I paid $7 for a mac and cheese hotdog with a bag of Ruffles chips (the only chip option they had sadly). Overall, it was a great experience and we only paid $10 a person for lawn seats. I would just recommend eating before or after the game if you don't want to shell out ~$10 on food.

Yelp
Great stadium and very spacious ballpark. Views are great from most parts of the stadium. Only thing that could be better is food prices.
