"Name-dropped by the rapper Aminé and once called the “best Korean teriyaki in the known universe,” a plate of char-blistered, juicy chicken drenched in sweet teriyaki, served with a scoop of rice and a poppyseed-dressed salad, is a rite of passage for those who grew up in Portland. The menu has a few other options — yakisoba, a tofu bowl — but when you’re at Du’s, you’re in it for the chicken." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

"This Sandy Korean teriyaki shop has been a Portland tradition for decades, celebrated by national food media and rappers alike. The teriyaki plates — which come with a choice of protein, a hearty serving of rice, and a simple iceberg salad in a poppyseed dressing — are simple, tasty, and super filling, with the most clocking in around $14. The chicken here is the standout, the char of the grill balanced by the sweetness of the marinade." - Katrina Yentch, Eater Staff

"The gently charred aroma of grilled chicken wafts from this beloved teriyaki shop even before customers set foot inside. Du’s is an undisputed neighborhood institution, though its reputation extends beyond Rose City Park: Taste called the restaurant’s teriyaki “America’s best,” and the rapper Aminé has named-dropped the restaurant in songs and music videos. The shop keeps it simple: proteins of choice — chicken (available spicy), pork, beef, or combinations thereof — piled next to scoops of steaming hot rice and crisp iceberg salad. Dishes like a tofu bowl and yakisoba round out the menu." - Janey Wong

Well this if for sure my all time favorite teriyaki place in Portland! The Korean Japanese fusion is absolute perfection. The meat is charred perfectly and gives an amazing fusion of sweet savory teriyaki and natural smoky char that I did not expect to be so satisfying. I also LOVE their salad with the poppy seed salad dressing. It’s not overly sweet and is perfectly creamy without being too much. I we had the chicken & the chicken and pork and I really am not a pork fan at all, but I have to say the pork absolutely blew my mind. Next time I will be trying the pork and beef! I love that this place keeps it simple!

Google
I came because of the Portland rap, legend Aminé reference this place in a song called turf. I’m a die hard teriyaki lover and this place top five. The dressing beyond belief it was so good. I could drink it. the pork so soft and flavorful that complemented the chicken very well and the rice cooked to perfection

Google
I just came out of the restaurant, is pretty ok specially for the quality of food you get around this area. I asked just for the chicken as a test subject dish and it was pretty ok, chicken is coming straight out the grilled, getting chopped right in front of you, portions are on pair with what you pay, generous more than though for an adult male, enough salad, enough rice. If you're in the area and need some teriyaki this is a good option. Is not a mind blower but it's not a let down

Google
I’ve been a DU’s customer since 2013. Over the years their food quality has stayed relatively the same but their customer service has slipped and their food prep process has become questionable. Today I went in and ordered two dishes and one of them had a fly in it. I believe this could of been avoided had they not been trying to plate so many different orders at the same time, each having the lid open, which in my opinion is unsanitary. Although this may be a one off incident it is enough for me to not want to go back until they prioritize customer satisfaction and cleanliness over their bottom line.

Google
First time trying out Du’s Grill. I ordered the spicy chicken teriyaki and it was delicious! I find it hard to find a place that makes good chicken teriyaki

Ali M

Google
This place always been great but the last 3times that have been back somehow the taste has changed. In my experience it seems like the meat is always burnt and the teriyaki sauce is too watery. Who knows maybe an off today or maybe since prices are going up I get more pickier.

Josh Andler

Google
Some of the better teriyaki I've had in Portland but they're a bit stingy with the sauce and then charge for extra. The pork was great flavor-wise but on the fattier side. The other let down was being out of spicy chicken. They clearly had chicken so all I can assume is they either don't make stuff from scratch in the evening or were out of ingredients to make it spicy (or it may be a bottled sauce they ran out of, who knows). Clearly I was let down by the lack of spicy availability. 😉

Google
I accept dentally tipped them at 30% on my card and the cashier hid behind her lack of English to cancel the order. The manager refused to cancel the transaction, too. The cafe was hot, and the chicken tasty, though dry. I won’t be visiting them again.

Yelp
DU's is always good. They get very busy, so call ahead and pick up. Good portions, fresh chicken and steak. Love Du's!

Tim A.

Yelp
used to be really good like 10 years ago. the salad was crisp. now the leaves are wilted. the chicken used to be moist, now it's all dried out. the rice used to be fresh, now it's all mushy. i remember getting excited about when the poppyseed salad dressing spills over onto the rice because it tasted really good. now i'm just looking through the plate trying to find a piece of chicken that isn't dried out. only reason for 2 stars is because they give you a lot of food for cheap, but it's not worth it imo.

Aisha W.

Yelp
Disappointed. Du's Grill was one of my favorite restaurants for teriyaki. The quality of the food has changed tremendously. The chicken was dry and had no sauce, the salad was wilted and rice was mushy. They give you a small cup of teriyaki sauce and salad dressing on the side and dare you ask for more.

Joe P.

Yelp
My last review of Du's was in 2016, but I've been going since at least 2007. Still--one of if not the best tasting anything in Portland. That's what she said. Honors: They were about to close for about an hour to service the grill (in the early afternoon), but after learning I was visiting from DC, fired up and made me two chickens extra sauce to go.

Expletive D.

Yelp
(Updated January 17, 2023) I have been a customer since 2016. Du's Grill used to be my favorite restaurant for teriyaki chicken. I ordered two chicken teriyaki combos. The portion sizes have gone down and prices have gone up. I understand having to raise prices due to inflation, but you cut the portion sizes in half, this is just greedy. I won't be returning and I can no longer recommend your restaurant to friends and family.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Pretty good food. Love the sauces at the table. Simple menu ,not hard to choose what to eat which is nice. Had a one track mind on what I wanted heading there anyways. Chopped spicy chicken with rice. Same as everywhere else nowadays , overpriced ( 1 star off) and they apparently charged $2.00 for using my card after checking my checking acct. So took off a star for that. Maybe there was a note by card reader that stated that ,if so I missed it. Still, a pet peeve of mine.

Keizzel C.

Yelp
I would rate this closer to a 3.5 stars but upgrading due to the price point & quickness from when we ordered. I had Du's bookmarked after reading an article of Amine's favorite local spots to check out and who doesn't enjoy some teriyaki!? It was pretty late in the night so glad they stay open later and even when we arrived there were a couple groups enjoying their meal and ordering for pickup which is a good sign for me. On the menu it's pretty simple where you can get one meat or do combinations with two. This time I ended up getting the chicken teriyaki and the beef yakisoba to try something else out. They run you ~$11+ for entree which really isn't that bad! We got both our entrees within 10 mins but as we were waiting we could smell the grilled chicken and it smelled so good! The teriyaki comes with rice and a side salad as well with that you order. Salad was nothing special and rice wasn't bad but could have been cooked a little longer. As for the chicken I'm a little torn since I loved the char and flavor buuut would have preferred more sauce. There was hardly any leftover sauce after the rice absorbed it so was a little try for leftovers. The entree did last two meals so worth the price point. The yakisoba was actually the opposite where there was more sauce than the noodles that were in the entree. It wasn't bad since it added the sweetness to the meat and veggies but would have enjoyed it more if there were more noodles to soak up the excess sauce. If all else fails be sure to pour it over the rice from another entree you get.

Yelp
Heard from a few friends that this was worth checking out and it's only a few blocks away so worth a shot What We Had: - 1 Chicken Teriyaki - 1 Beef Teriyaki Pros: - Good portion size for the cost - Side salad served is actually better than expected for a side salad Cons: - A little too salty for my taste but maybe can ask for less salt (?) next time Overall: Came in for a pickup and the staff was helpful and efficient. Food was ordered and ready in less than 5 minutes.

Megan P.

Yelp
So freaking good! We go here all the time and it's one of our favorites I love that I can just call in my order and it will be ready in ten min for me to pick up. Always the perfect amount of food and done right!

Amber H.

Yelp
BEWARE THERE ARE RODENTS AT THIS LOCATION! The health department has been notified of this issue. Just last night my family went here and ordered two meals. While waiting, a large rodent crawled out from under the front counter and scurried into the kitchen. I ran out as fast as I could and my husband was alarmed so he came out after me. I was in absolute disbelief. I told him there was rodents and we have to get a refund! The man running the front seemed aware of the rodent issue and gladly refunded us.

Greg B.

Yelp
Stopped in to order. The place was filthy. Service was 20-30 wait. Piles of cooked food just sitting on the grill getting cold. Original owner was great. This new one. Not so much.

Merrilee A.

Yelp
Unfortunately this Du's location has gone downhill and I've been going there since it's opening so many yrs ago. It's evident that the emphasis is on the Beaverton location & the who's who in the sports, music world ordering & getting their picture taken as being a customer & fan. I get a smile from one of the cooks as he knows me as a long time customer but as far as the cashier? Customer service isn't her specialty. It's too bad the owner has put this location on the back burner....no pun intended. He doesn't seem to care. I know the west side is close to his home but why ignore your flagship location? I will never understand. I will try again in hopes attention will get paid to the not so great reviews. My original review was over nine yrs ago and at that time it was the bomb!

Alejandro I.

Yelp
Horrible customer service from the the young lady with pink hair. Completely ignores customers picking up orders. Also, the place is not clean. There used to be a young male working the front who made sure everyone felt welcoming. Management should improve the customer service being served at the cash register.

Jen M.

Yelp
The BEST teriyaki in all of Portland. Full stop. Wait... get the chicken salad and the pork/beef plate and steal half of your husband's order

Chris W.

Yelp
I named my cat Du! This should be the only recommendation you need to come to here! My typical order is spicy chicken/pork. I can't tell if it's just a straight up poppy seed dressing in the salad or not but, it's sooooooo fricking fire!!!!!!!!!

Hern D.

Yelp
RIP Du's Grill.. I've been coming here for 20+ years and it's sad what it's become. They used to be known for cheap prices and generous portions and now it's 1/3 of the food for about 3x of what the price used to be. I'm happy to pay more for the Du's I remember but it's obvious their standards left when Ricky did. Time to find a new teriyaki spot.

Athena G.

Yelp
I always get the Chicken Teriyaki whenever I come to Du's. It's my favorite teriyaki place in Portland! While I've heard Du's has gone down in quality with COVID, I've only had it post-pandemic and it's absolutely delicious! I can't imagine how it could be better, but I guess I'll just have to wonder. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food you're getting. I am OBSESSED with the poppyseed dressing!! I wish I could buy a bottle for myself. If I could change one thing it would be more side salad so I could have more dressing :P The staff is always wonderful and the food comes out fast and hot. 5 stars!!

Angie T.

Yelp
I'm writing this out of love and a cry out for the owners to please take into consideration. I've been going yo du's since early 2000's When the dad and the son ran it...and then mostly the son...and then the son left this Location to focus on new location in Beaverton I believe...anyways, Long Enough for me to notice the change. Dear OG DU's....please Come back. Please make your salad Dressing how it used to be. Please bring back the quality of your chicken. Please please Please. I come home from Texas a few times a year since 2003 and it's declined a little bit more ever since the sad and son have left it in be hands of others. Pdx wants that old thang back.

rhiannon r.

Yelp
I paid $20 for some extremely dried outs over salted food. I understand the food is more expensive but 20$ for not satisfying food is depressing. The kitchen is extremely dirty. The vibe is gritty don't get me wrong. I've had the teriyaki chicken before with rice and it's been decent. Maybe it was just a bad day but unfortunately I don't have the funds to keep making the same mistake over and over, I'm sure people will still go there as they've been here for a while, but I'm not quite sure how they keep passing health inspection. Eat at your own risk!

Al T.

Yelp
I returned again on a visit to Portland. It was great as always! I only wish I could eat there as much as I did years ago when I lived here. The prices are really pretty reasonable for what they serve you. It comes with what is basically a full side salad order in addition to the teriyaki. I only wish I could've gotten like 5 boxes' worth to bring back to Los Angeles with me! I am sooo glad Du's is still open after all these years!

John M.

Yelp
Provender: while I was here I noticed people from all walks of life come in and place various orders, which leads to one inescapable conclusion: good food is good for the soul. That's what you'll get when you order from Du's Grill! I ordered the chicken/beef combo, which comes served on a bed of rice. It also includes salad. It was simply delicious. The meat, rice, salad and teriyaki and salad sauces were all on point. Prices: reasonable for the amount of yumminess you receive. Parking: they have a few dedicated spots, so whether you're heading northeast or southwest on Sandy Blvd., you'll want to turn onto NE 54th Ave. to access the parking lot. They also have street parking. People: fun for all, young and old. Perks: they also have another location out in Hillsboro, if you happen to be in that area. Very friendly and personable staff. They also sell merchandise. This is hands down the best teriyaki joint in Oregon, so when in Portland do the Du! Oh yeah, if you get a chance, ask the owner to name a dope hip hop tune . . . that way you'll get food for your belly and your ears.

Al T.

Yelp
My wife and I were undecided what to have for lunch today 2/22/22 and thought we would try something new. I came across Du Grill and was hungry for teriyaki chicken and beef. I read the reviews and said it's our turn to try this place. We had our food delivered because we're from out of state and don't know the surroundings that well...yet...my wife had the teriyaki chicken and I had the teriyaki chicken and beef both came with rice and salad. Servings were "WOW" food tasted great right temperature and very, very delicious. We will eat here again, hopefully we can actually go and visit this restaurant before we leave to go back home.

Mandi R.

Yelp
There are only three tables currently available for dine-in (due to COVID I'm guessing). We got 3 meals; two were chicken and beef and the other was just teriyaki chicken. We were pleasantly surprised with the HUGE portions; for $38 we got 9 meals out of it! My only knock on this place was the fat pieces I found with the teriyaki beef, often more than I'd like. However, for the price and thd portions, we'll definitely be back

Sean R.

Yelp
Exactly what you want from a teriyaki joint - big heaping portions and a very reasonable price. Pork and beef were nice and juicy. It is primarily a to go joint. There's a couple tables inside if you wanted to sit and eat but I doubt they would pack it any different. When we went in at midday on a weekday they were prepping a mountain of chicken the size of a small child. They move some serious meat.

Lara H.

Yelp
So Good!!! I crave this teriyaki quite often! You can smell the goodness before you even go inside. Delicious grilled chicken with a well balanced teriyaki sauce. Large portions and price is reasonable (about $11.00 for chicken teriyaki). Literally little to no wait, if you call it in to pick up.

Phil T.

Yelp
This little spot is delicious. I called in my order and by the time I got there, they were out of chicken for the night. For real, this place serves up some dankness. I enjoyed both the beef and the chicken teriyaki. It's Bout an 8,5 or 9 out of ten on my T-scale. My only complaint was that serving the salad In The same container as the meat and rice made the salad wilt.

Kelsey G.

Yelp
Wow. After years of creeping on DU's grill, desperately yearning to try their food, I finally got my fill. And I have to say, it was better than expected! My friend recommended I get the half chicken/ half beef and both were SO GOOD. The way the sauces from the chicken/beef mix with the rice and also the salad/salad dressing is just *chef's kiss*. As much as I loved the beef, I think next time, I'll go with just chicken and extra salad because that dressing is just too good. Anyways, thanks du's. I cannot wait for my next visit!!!

Hyun C.

Yelp
A true portland find. In the world of teriyaki chicken, it's almost impossible to differentiate oneself. However, Du's does that and more. This is a true "hole in the wall" that provides an original teriyaki sauce and salad dressing, while givin off that grilled flavor. The distinct sauce is good enough for people to ask for a handful of additional sauce packs (which I'm guessing people may use on their own food at home). It's now a big thing in Portland, but still worth sharing the Good News of Du's Grill!

Maddie B.

Yelp
Chicken was good and well done. All the sauce went to the bottom of the rice though and left the chicken dry so I'm glad I asked for the extra sauces. Salad was very limp and uneatable cause the package its in the same Togo box. Will be asking for this separate next time and for extra extra sauce.

Wizard Z.

Yelp
I have never had worse teriyaki before. The chicken was so dry it was inedible. There was legitimately zero sauce on it. None. Zip. No teriyaki sauce on teriyaki chicken? That's new. The terrible salad also had ZERO dressing! I'll eat fucking iceberg lettuce if there's at least some dressing but wtf man? This place sucks. DU's? More like Du NOT eat at this shit hole.

Dominique M.

Yelp
Im giving them a 3 because I was on hold for 10 minutes before getting hung up on. I heard them taking order after order. Instead of micro managing like ive seen other places do and tell the customers inside to hold on while they take the phone call they did not. Which by the way can make them lose money. When I called back and explained how its unfair I was on hold for 10 minutes before I was hung up on the lady on the phone told me(sorry we are busy) which is not a valid excuse. Besides that unprofessionalism the foods fantastic. I recommend you going here. Just needed to share this information so the owner can train staff on how to shuffle phone calls & instore customers so they can make more profit. Then she messes up my order...

Mike R.

Yelp
Coming from Seattle where good chicken teriyaki can be found all over town, I was looking forward to trying DU's because so many people recommended it. While I really liked the large portions, I was actually let down with the burnt flavor of all of the meats. Perhaps they burnt something on the grill and didn't clean it very well? But all of the meat had a hint of burnt flavor which took away from the overall taste of their food. I definitely want to go back and give it another try based on all of the people who have recommended this place. Might have given three stars but I added an extra star because the employees were very kind even though they were swamped with customers.

Aimee W.

Yelp
You know food is really good when you think about it all week, you can't wait to go and nothing else will "Du". I wish I lived closer. The bonus is that Du's Grill sells their signature garlicky poppyseed dressing and teriyaki sauce so you can attempt to replicate the goodness at home (I'm still coming back though).

Ace E.

Yelp
Some of the best teriyaki you can get in Portland, if not thee best! They do a few things and they do them well. I enjoy that they serve their meals with a creamy poppy seed dressing. It compliments the teriyaki and rice very nicely. The service is quick when you go in, or you can order ahead through the Yelp app and grab your food quicker!

Jeremy G.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Du's grill in years and forgot how good it is. Their portions are huge and they have the best side salad as far as teriyaki places are concerned. They're chicken teriyaki #1 is a bit expensive at $10.75 but again, they give you a big portion. You could almost split this with someone, especially if you get extra meat.

Vivian M.

Yelp
I have been going to this place since I was elementary school. You can smell the barbecue from a black away. It is what you expect: hot grilled meat, heaping rice portion, and a salad. Love their poppyseed salad dressing! I usually ask for the teriyaki sauce on the side instead of on the meat and dip as a I go to prevent it from being too salty, and the staff is very accommodating! My family usually gets pork and chicken, and it never disappoints. The meat is so flavorful and they give you a huge portion, you never leave hungry!

Armand M.

Yelp
It's not the fanciest place, but the food portions and quality are the reason everybody has been coming back for years. I also buy their nine dollar salad dressing, it's worth it, and I use it at home often. I've only had the teriyaki beef and chicken combo. Why change a good thing?

Thuan H.

Yelp
I've been here before many times, but maybe 2 years ago. I remember this was my favorite teriyaki spot because of the portions, flavor, and pricing. I stopped coming here because the location was a little far for me. I recently was in the area and decided I'd want something filling and tasty. Even with COVID this place delivers fast customer service and gets you in and out comfortably for that I'll give customer service 5/5. The food itself was mediocre. I got the spicy chicken teriyaki which was $1 more than the regular chicken. I don't think it was worth it because I was hoping to taste the actual spicy marinade, but in fact it was just sriracha on top of the teriyaki chicken. The chicken was really dry, and the rice was soggy. I feel like the quality of food has gone down since I've been here. For this quality of food it opens many other teriyaki places with competitive prices.

Jordan B.

Yelp
I got the half chicken half beef combo and I'm sad to say it was the worst teriyaki I've ever had. It was so dry, the meat quality of the beef was mediocre, and the salad was warm and wilted from sitting next to the rice and meat. They make you pay extra for additional sauce which I would recommend since they don't apply any to your serving. I used to love Du's I would defend them from anyone who tried to say they weren't the best but unfortunately they are the worst now. I won't be going back ever and I'll stick to the places I know are good.

Vinnie B.

Yelp
The GOAT, at least in Portland it is. To me this is the easiest review to write, because it writes itself. When I think of teriyaki, NO place comes close to Du's, It has it all, and much much more. Quality, Legacy, Grill Temp, Cooking Process, Perfect Rice, Fresh Salad, Nice Owner, Great Cooks, Diverse Work Force that reflects the community and finally, a Work Life Balance in terms of a 40hr work week. Not too many restaurants have the courage or means to close on the weekends. The only negative, I live way too damn close and the temptation to eat here everyday is strong and makes it hard not to put on the pounds. If you're in Wilsonville and thinking to yourself, is it worth the drive..I say YES it is. Fuel up, pick up Bae, load in the tax deductions and enjoy the Greatest Of All Time Teriyaki. I'm out !

Lena T.

Yelp
I ordered the teriyaki chicken plate, it was worth the price for a good full plate. I enjoyed it and will be looking forward to coming here for lunch!

Cindy M.

Yelp
I've been here quite a bit in the last 5 years and I become less impressed each time. I love the owner of this place and he takes a lot of pride in his business; though, I am beginning to feel that his workers do not. Service is subpar, sometimes they come off a tad bit rude (especially over the phone when ordering take out). Parking is very unorganized and scattered given the lot is very small. Cars are parked where the entry/exit is & it is hard to maneuver around. The teriyaki is excellent, except the rice was a tad bit soggy which is not a preference of mine. I'll definitely keep coming here to support, but it would be nice to see some improvements.

Misty R.

Yelp
This is an amazing place for food and the owner who use to run it in person was super kind and pleasant. However, the employee taking orders was very disrespectful on the phone and in person. His name is Gabriel is what I am assuming as he refuse to repeat his name over the phone. The owner should replace him with a more friendly employee otherwise Dus Grill will lose a lot of loyal customers do to this person working.

Samantha F.

Yelp
This place is hands down the best teriyaki in town. Not only that but the service is impeccable and so genuine and sincere. They really care about their customers happiness. They threw in a free root beer for me the other day even though I'd ordered via grub hub and couldn't tip them directly! So nice!!! All menus items are bomb- but the key is to let the salad mix a little with the teriyaki rice and meat. I don't know what kind of black magic it is- but when these flavors combine its cosmic. Highly recommend buying a bottle Of teriyaki sauce and the salad dressing while you're there. You won't regret it!

Kristina B.

Yelp
This place used to be the absolute best! But, the last few times I have been, it has slowly been getting worse. We order the teriyaki chicken with rice and it has become more and more dry with less and less sauce. Tonight we got it with no sauce in it at all. The sauce that they sell we bought, but it's not the same. The taste is wrong and it has a granular feel on your tongue. They got these fancy glass bottles now but frankly I kiss the plastic squeeze bottles with the better tasting sauce. I won't be going back unless it changes, and that sucks!

Trenette A.

Yelp
You get good and fresh food that meat is grilled served with steam rice with a salad with the best tasting salad dressing . They open Monday through Friday Only .

A H.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite teriyaki in town. Large portions, reasonable prices, great food.

Cristina G.

Yelp
We were blessed to receive a home delivery as a gift of food from here and I was shocked at the portion size and the flavor. It was so good. Their teriyaki sauce is flavorful without being too sweet and their vegetables are nice and crisp. Their yakisoba is amazing! I was shocked how good it was even reheated.

Paul M.

Yelp
This place is wonderful, I rushed over here today during my hour lunch break and was glad I did. This is the best chicken teriyaki I have ever had. The portions were massive and the service was great. I will be coming back for sure.

Glen A.

Yelp
Bummed. Heard this place had some of the "best teriyaki" in town, but it does not. The meat was under-sauced and the rice was mushy and inedible. For some reason, the pack the hot meat and rice in with the salad, so the salad immediately wilts.
