I've never been to their OG Turlock location, but I have always been a fan of their brews, either in cans or on taps at local bars/restaurants. They just opened up a smaller taproom in Livermore across the street from the outlet stores. Now when I say smaller, I just mean smaller than the Turlock location which I heard was huuuugggee. This is much smaller than that, but it is a very nice space with indoor space with high ceilings flooded with natural light and a lively outdoor patio that could probably house at least 75 people maybe closer to 100 in communal bench style seating with some patio furniture. I am a fan of the space, very clean and modern and not divey or warehouse-y at all, which a lot of modern beer places are. Also FYI, no brewing is done at this location, that is all done in Turlock.
They basically have one glass that they use for all their beers here, you just have to pick a size and they'll fill that goblet style glass up accordingly. Love the streamlined operation. So if you want to do a flight, you just have to order their sample size which can range from $3.50 to $5.50 for like a 5 oz pour. So one does have to be mindful that if you load up your flight with high gravity brews like IPAs and Imperials, then your flight may cost you about $30. Choose wisely young Jedi.
I probably tried about 5 different brews on our 2 hour chill sesh on the patio and I liked most of them except for 1. I tried 3 lighter styles, 1 pale ale and only 1 IPA. Loved their pilsner style, think it was called Hobo and equally enjoyed their pale ale and this Mexican Lager brew. Actually the only one I didn't care for was their Dustbowl Lager, which was an amber hued light beer that just didn't have the same balance as the others. But I will have to say that Dustbowl is now in my top 3 for California craft brews.
Food is offered by a separate business from a food trailer that is full time there. It is a bbq catering company out of Danville which I will review in a separate listing. You just scan the QR code, place and pay for your food order and it will be brought out to your table by a server, which was pretty cool. Often times with food truck scenarios you have to get up and fend for yourself. Here there is a nice level of service attached to your outing. Now all drink purchases through Dustbowl is paid through a different bill, so there is that, but it didn't affect us at all.
Now parking and traffic can be hellish out here on weekends due to the proximity to the outlet stores, and extrapolated on long weekends when shoppers are in swarm mode, which we unfortunately had to experience. This strip's parking even says 'no outlet mall parking' but that didn't stop the masses from doing so. But at least once settled into the place, only good and chill times are to be had. That'll bring me back, just not on a long weekend.
