Best Doughnuts in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Dutch Monkey is worth the trek north to Cumming for doughnuts. These perfectly fried doughnuts come in playful flavors like Not Samoa, a take on the Girl Scout cookie with chocolate, caramel, and coconut. The eponymous Dutch Monkey is filled with dulce de leche custard and topped with bananas and chocolate. The shop also has a serious coffee program serving Counter Culture Coffee to pair with their doughnuts, and free Wi-Fi." - Lia Picard

Google
I work in the area and heard about this donut shop. I am not a big fan of donuts but this shop is so good. The donuts taste great and the sweetness is at the right level. I definitely recommend to try.

Ms. S.

Google
Good, not great. Pre-Covid, this place was 11/10. It’s still good, but never really returned to what it was. Donuts are good … unique flavors, good quality ingredients. Our favorites are the cake variety. Yeast donuts are good, but somewhat less consistent. Employees up front “moderately” friendly; prices are quite high. Variety has gone down over the past few years. No need to leave 20% of the cup empty to “top off.” Still good, but more like 7.5-8/10. Hope they can address some of the shortfalls.

Google
Visiting family in Atlanta and found this donut shop nearby. This is a great spot for quality donuts and delicious coffee, highly recommend! The baristas were very kind and sweet and helped me order with their recommendations ☺️

Google
I have been coming to this location since they opened! I genuinely love their doughnuts. Expect to pay anywhere from $2-5 for their doughnuts, depending on size and flavor. My favorites include their coffee filled, lemon meringue, and Aztec doughnut. There gluten free doughnuts also have a great texture and flavor. They are so delicious and I love how much they fill their doughnuts. Too many places are cheap about the filling these days!! Their coffee is also phenomenal and reasonably priced. The people who run this shop are also incredible to the community. Such a great place!!

Google
Donuts are okay, but the moisture just wasn’t there even on their signature Dutch Monkey. They’re also quite expensive compared to Krispy Kreme; a half dozen here (20) costs more than a dozen there (15.5).

Katlin W.

Google
Went here for the first time today with my husband. Everything was exquisite. The service was great, music was good, ambiance was nice and the food was fantastic. I can't wait to return.

Jill W.

Google
Omg. Today I finally stopped into this donut haven (admittedly, on my way home from the gym). It’s off Ronald Regan Blvd /exit 13. The donuts are perfection: light, fluffy, fresh, flavorful. I will not be getting a donut anywhere else again. GO HERE if you want donuts that are actually worth the calories!

Google
Quite possibly the best donuts I've ever had! They're simply amazing! Very fresh with top-notch presentation...and they're gluten free! Customer service is always great, they've got that down. Seating is available but limited including three outdoor picnic tables with one little one for kids. I like to support local business anyway but it's always a big plus when a product is over the top!

Yelp
I went super early, pretty close to opening time and it was so serene and quiet inside!! The earlier you go, the more options for flavors you get. I got a dozen of some assorted doughnuts and not a single one was a miss. Staff was friendly. Yes it is pricey for a doughnut, you'll spend $4-5 per donut but it's the perfect little tasty treat. They have some really unique flavors and you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. Highly recommend!! I'll have to try a coffee next time. What I got- Glazed Cinnamon sugar Strawberry sprinkle Coconut lime Chocolate sprinkle Dutch monkey Lemon meringue Boston cream Blueberry lemon & ginger Coffee buttercream Plain chocolate

Yelp
Love, love, love the gluten free options! We save it as a special treat. Easy to get in and out! Come early for the best selection!

Yelp
Dutch Monkey is a must of you're in the Cumming area. Get here early if you want the full selection of donuts. They are open until 2 pm unless they sell out before. I had the chocolate peanut butter knot and a Chai latte. I stopped by around 12:30 when it was quieter, and I'm pretty sure I got the last chocolate peanut butter knot. It was delicious! The dough was light and airy. The peanut butter icing was sweet and not overpowering. I would get this again. Even though it was quiet, there was still a steady flow of foot traffic. Many of these customers were ordering the frozen take and bake. I am not a regular and had to look it up. It's a frozen pack of 9 cinnamon rolls that you defrost overnight and bake in the morning. Clearly, this is a popular item. Maybe next time.

Yelp
Very nice, clean, well merchandised store with a great selection of bakery goods. Thought they were a little overpriced but very tasty. you do get 10% off when you buy a dozen
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
Yummy donuts and quick service! Definitely try the cinnamon roll donut!! The chocolate one was amazing toooo
google avatar

Olivia J.

Yelp
This a favorite doughnut place of my mom, sister and I!! They have some of the best handmade and also fun flavors as well!! They are always consistent and so delicious as well!! The staff and owners are amazing as well. Some of our favorite flavors are the coffee butter cream and Boston creme! Their jelly flavors are also really good as well but they change. They do sell out quick on the weekends and holidays. Stop by and try them!! They also have now their website online and you can see what they have available for that day or what is already sold out. As well you can order them to pick up before they close for the day.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm in my many years of existence I have never tasted donuts as good as this. The employees are super quick and nice, this place is also super clean! I recommend the Boston cream. It's so good and will fill you right up! If you come here you will NOT be disappointed!
google avatar

Armando F.

Yelp
Incredible donuts. They do sell out quickly so go earlier rather than later. A little pricey but worth it. Nice quaint cafe.
google avatar

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong...they are good but I think this place has been so hyped up for me that I was expecting phenomenal. The Dutch monkey is probably my favorite, followed by the Boston cream but I still have yet to try the Nutella. I grabbed a couple dozen or so for a recent all-day work meeting in the area. Service was great and the online ordering is super convenient. My husband has had DM before and did say (after sampling some leftovers) that they weren't as good as before. I mean, still really good donuts and I'd totally have them again, I just "donut" think I'd go much out of my way specifically for them.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Killer doughnuts!! Had the chance to try multiple varieties they offer! Nothing was a disappointment! While I was waiting for my doughnuts to be boxed up, I watched the Barista move like a ballerina in the espresso machine!! Id love to try their coffee next visit.

Jay W.

Yelp
Delicious. Artistic. Eclectic. Definitely worth the price! Particularly love the Star Wars donuts and so does the little ones in my family!
google avatar

Ravi C.

Yelp
Donuts we're really good. We enjoyed the whole dozen. If you get there before 9AM in a Friday, there want too many people. But made it's because school was out. I also wish the price wasn't so much. $50 for a dozen donuts
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
This is a wonderfully unique kind of doughnut shop. The doughnuts are both original like the Dutch Monkey with banana and chocolate, as well classics like the Boston cream. All are freshly made each day, and taste terrific. I can't wait to be back.
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
It's been a while since we went there. They're busy- really popular. But everything I've ever gotten there has been dry, and the doughnuts were overly sugary. The restaurant is usually extremely busy and loud. On the plus side, the selection is wide and varied.
google avatar

Anna J.

Yelp
My mom and I's favorite doughnut place close to Alpharetta!!! They have some of the best and most creative flavors, not to mention the staff is awesome!! Some our favorites include coffee buttercream and a classic Boston crème. Don't miss out on this place!! They sell out so quick on weekends and holidays.

E. J.

Yelp
Great variety. Need to get there early for the most choices. I tend to get there late, but I've loved every be I've eaten.

Yelp
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, they ask that one person per party enter the shop. They also have footprints on the ground to mark 6 feet apart. All the employees were wearing masks and were friendly. We got iced coffees (small: $2.25, large: $2.95), which were good. Reasonably priced. For donuts, we got a dozen: Nutella Twist x2, Cinnamon Roll x2, Buttermilk Cake with Blueberry Icing x2, Dutch Monkey x2, Boston Cream x2, Chocolate Cake, and "Not" Samoa. My personal ranking, in order from favorite to least favorite: 1. Buttermilk Cake with Blueberry Icing and Pecans 2. Cinnamon Roll 3. Chocolate Cake 4. Dutch Monkey 5. Boston Cream 6. "Not" Samoa 7. Nutella Twist I think we should've stuck to the more plain ones because most of the ones we got just felt like they were doing too much. We definitely liked the cake-based donuts better. As for price, we spent $38 total (including 2 iced coffees, with tax). Their prices for donuts ranged from $1.35-$3.35. They do give a dozen discount, which was $3.42. That's pretty expensive for donuts. They're good, but I'm not sure it's worth it, especially for the higher tiered donuts.
google avatar

Kaleigh S.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to check if they had gluten free options and they do! I got the cinnamon sugar donut gluten free and it was delicious. I wish I got more! Can't wait to visit again!
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
These donuts are original and delicious, but pricey. Very rich! Dream for those with a sweet tooth. Servers are friendly and indoor area very clean. Would recommend! Such a treat!
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
The donuts were fine but not amazing and the price was pretty high for a donut. I just don't think the value is there.

Yelp
I tried Dutch Monkey Doughnuts today for the first time and I would have to say I have mixed opinions about this place. The moment I walked in, I noticed the cashier was not the most joyful. A hello would have been nice, but instead she was kind of quiet and meh. I will say, I have been eyeing the daily menu for about a week now, and by the time I am able to make my way there, many of the donuts I would want to try are sold out. So, I tell myself I will go another day. Luckily, today there was a tropical storm, so they had a lot of donuts available and I decided to try it out. I got the strawberry bar, not a Samoa, crunch donut, and cinnamon roll. Given the cinnamon roll and strawberry bar are always sold out, I guess I had high expectations, but in fact, those were my least favorite. Nowhere near a delicious Cinnabon and the strawberry bar was just nothing to call home about. The "not a Samoa", however, was delicious and the crunch donut. The base of the donut was more cake-like, rather than yeasty. The chocolate frosting tasted really fresh and not artificial. I would definitely try other flavors again, but as of right now, I would say they are average for the price.

Yelp
Excellent donuts not a huge variety Quick service, and very friendly but it was pricey

Yelp
Located off exit 13 at the corner of Peachtree Pkwy and Ronald Reagan Blvd intersection, this family owned and operated coffee/ doughnut shop has been whipping up freshly made doughnuts from scratch each morning since 2009. One of the most unique features about this doughnut shop is that you can watch the process of the doughnuts being made by hand in their kitchen through several small windows; much like a Krispy Kreme experience. Little kids will love this! From the moment you walk in, your nose will be hit with the sweet scent of deliciously mouth watering sugary goodness from the doughnut's aroma and the smell of freshly brewed coffee! Doughnuts I have tried and highly recommend (price includes tax): -Boston Cream ($2.51) -Chocolate Chip Twist ($3.58) -Caramel Apple Fridder ($3.05) -Raspberry Bar with chocolate syrup drizzle ($4.12) -Chocolate Peanut Butter Knot ($4.12) -Nutella Twists ($3.58) The coffee that Dutch Monkey brews in house is Counter Culture Coffee's Hologram blend! The flavor of this coffee is chocolaty with a hint of fruit in it. If you like strong/ dark roast coffee, then this will be right up your alley! A regular cup of coffee is priced at $2.41 and a large is $3.16; both include tax. I am very excited to see how this local doughnut shop expands and grows over the next 5 years! The employees are very friendly, welcoming and patient with their customers. The first time I walked in, I had no idea what doughnuts they had or how their whole pricing process worked for their doughnuts. The employee that was working the counter helped explain everything to me and took her time walking me through the different tiers of their pricing. I ordered my donuts to go, however, I ended up eating majority of them at the shop as the atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting. Each doughnut was crazy delicious! I mean, you could literally taste the freshness in the doughnut. I went in around 8:30am on a Saturday morning which was not too busy. I'm assuming most people are still sleeping or just getting out of bed at that time which was great for me, because there was no wait time and I was able to take my time at the counter. If you are looking for a local coffee/ doughnut shop that is family-friendly and has freshly made one of a kind doughnuts, then you better get yourself over to this shop and try them out! Keep up the excellent work you guys! I'm a loyal supporter of your business now!

Yelp
Fresh and delicious every time every time we visit from Texas we always make the Dutch Monkey part of our morning
google avatar

Yelp
There is a reason why Dutch Monkey has been around a while....it is because their donuts, pastries, and coffee are simply AMAZING!!! Stopped by today for the first time since this pandemic started and OMG (!) why have I stayed away? Bought a box of donuts today including the "go to" Dutch Monkey and Dutch Crumble. The bread pudding caught my attention and was the first thing I ate when we arrived home. Wow! THE.BEST.THING.EVER! I am going to go back this weekend and start the Holidays celebrations early with another box (or two) of just the bread pudding.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Wow! Quick stop to pick up some of the most unique and delicious doughnuts and pastries that will satisfy anyone fantasy dreams. The coffee is delicious also. Just have to time your visit just right to get your favorite cause the sell out fast. You can always call ahead and be sure they have the one your looking to get your morning started with.
google avatar

Neil M.

Yelp
This was a good doughnut spot.. they have lots of interesting flavors. However, it was very expensive and the doughnuts were not very soft/fresh, for the price. One dozen doughnuts was almost $30. Next time I would probably go to either Sarah's Donuts or just go to a Krispy Kreme.

Holly S.

Yelp
Fantastic donuts made from scratch. Wonderful service. Good parking. Casual ambience.
google avatar

Rick P.

Yelp
They have to kidding three dollar doughnuts. The doughnuts were decent. I have had better. If you are ever on Arizona go to Bashas Supermarkets and buy some doughnuts. Especially on Friday buy a dozen and get a have dozen for free The doughnuts are awesome.

Jean R.

Yelp
Dutch monkey doughnut is probably my most favorite doughnut of all time. The maple bacon is second. They are consistent & always delicious. I'm so happy to have them so close to where I live because it is such a treat to have homemade doughnuts as opposed to all the processed crap around. My only tick is that I love Boston crème doughnuts but theirs doesn't hit it for me. Every single other thing I've had is literally amazing though. Thank you Dutch Monkey !

Laura S.

Yelp
1 Dutch Monkey doughnut beats a dozen Dunkin and 2 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts all day long. Each one is a little masterpiece. All fillings and toppings are scratch-made using fresh, in-season ingredients. Coffee lovers - do not sleep on the Coffee Cream Bismark.

Yelp
Whenever I am in Cumming, which isn't often anymore, I try to make a stop at Dutch Monkey. It's a cute little shop that offers a variety of creative flavors as well as coffee. I have tried most of their donut flavors as well as their cappuccinos and lattes. They serve both yeast and cake donuts. I'm partial to yeast donuts, though. My favorite donut flavors are: salted caramel, nutella, and lemon meringue. I am not a big fan of lemon flavor, but was pleasantly surprised by their lemon meringue. I thought it would be more tart, but it wasn't! I am a sucker for anything (salted) caramel and they do a great job with theirs. In fact, they offer two salted caramel donut options: one with chocolate and nuts and one without. I prefer the one without. The nutella filling is whipped, so it's light and fluffy. At my last visit, I tried the dutch monkey flavor. The staff member who was helping me explained that it's dulce de leche filled, but I didn't taste that. Instead, the filling tasted more like peanut butter. That was a bit disappointing. I like peanut butter, but I wanted to taste the dulce de leche. The chocolate and banana were a nice touch, though. The coffee is strong. The staff is always polite and helpful. The donuts start at $1.35 (tier 1) each and go up to $3.85 (tier 6). A bit pricey, but these donuts are gourmet and delicious. The kids love watching the kitchen staff make donuts throught the glass windows on the side. Parking is limited, but most customers go in and out in just a few minutes. There's more parking shared in the shopping center.
google avatar

Carmen B.

Yelp
Overpriced. I wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for a decent dounut. Taste does not exceed price. Better off at Dunkin' Donuts. 0 stars.

Travis P.

Yelp
Great doughnuts! Always good customer service and just unique and tasty flavors of food.
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
Always delicious and creative selection of doughnuts and treats. Friendly staff and place is clean.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
The service here is awesome! The people running the counter patiently explain any questions you may have, they have really unique flavors here as well. It's like classic donuts but the flavors make them gourmet! I LOVED the Samoa donut. I also really enjoyed that the donuts were not sickly sweet. That's a problem I find a lot with donuts, unfortunately. The hours are a little weird so make sure you call ahead of time or check the hours here beforehand! For those of us who want a little special indulgence in Cumming.
google avatar

Sarah I.

Yelp
These donuts were absolutely delicious but be warned - these donuts weren't meant to be consumed as breakfast. This is strictly dessert served at 10 am on a full stomach. We made the mistake of coming here in the morning (these guys should really open during the afternoon) and ate these bad boys on an empty stomach. Safe to say - we regretted it all day. The Nutella was really good, the buttercream tasted more like whipped cream to me which I wasn't a big fan of. Coffee was phenomenal, 10/10 recommend (I'm not normally a fan of coffee). The toffee bar tasted to me like a candy bar - wasn't the biggest fan. Overall would go again (albeit for dessert)
google avatar

Ruby J.

Yelp
World class donuts ! Love this place ! Service is too notch ! Never ever have I had donuts this good

Tammy P.

Yelp
Gluten free donuts and great coffee! Love having a donut shop that caters to special dietary needs.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Very very good and tasty, but they could maybe have more of a selection if you're being picky. The service was fair, they need a bar table or something to fill the space and be able to collect yourself before departing, i know they may not have tables cause covid, but still... GREAT gluten free doughnuts, they were my fav!!!
google avatar

Lorie M.

Yelp
Creative and delicious. Always a real treat, beyond ordinary, these doughnuts make me feel special.

Brandon C.

Yelp
I am not a fan of the donuts here. Too cake like for me. It's not the worst I have had, just not my favorite.
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
This place is soooo good. Hits all of your cravings. They have a flavor for everyone. I just got the sourdough donut and tasted the blueberry one. Both amazing, consistent and hit our sweet spot

Tom W.

Yelp
Best doughnuts ever. Try the maple bacon for a savory sweet treat. I'd love to see them try gluten free doughnuts. Wife is a Celiac Disease sufferer.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Love to stop by anytime to drive pass, It is near my kids school, easy get in and out The price very cheap and good Quality From what you get , we highly recommend
google avatar

Carlie M.

Yelp
I've been meaning to stop by this place for quite a while and finally got around to it! And I'm glad I did! The selection of donuts is amazing! They have new specials everyday as well as constant flavors. I ended up getting the s'mores donut and I was not disappointed! I'll be going back again soon!
google avatar

Hillary R.

Yelp
I traveled in from out of town and found Dutch Monkey on google this morning on my trek to find coffee. I walked into the shop and was immediately greeted by the two women working. One helped me select a dozen donuts to take home, and the other talked to me about coffee options. They provided me a great experience. The latte and cold brew were both delicious and the donuts are a hit at home. Well done, Dutch Monkey! We will be back!
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting Dutch Monkey. The doughnuts were excellent. I especially liked the Nutella Twist!
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
not super impressed! it was recommended by a friend so had to try it. the cinnamon roll was by far the best! the nutella twist was dry & not worth it. they're known for their cake donuts so those (the blueberry & chocolate) WERE good but also not blown away by them. the not samoa was like a samoa girl scout cookie, that one was good. the dutch monkey is like a bananas foster so if you like banana i would definitely try that one. honestly would probably only go back for the cinnamon roll!
google avatar

Rania R.

Yelp
I love this donut shop. The donuts are so freakin' good. The coffee is just as good. I could sit in the shop and eat donuts and drink coffee like it were my job. My favorite was the cinnamon apple fritter (I think that's what it was). I'm giving this shop a 4 star because of the price. Man those donuts are pricey. If you aren't looking to spend a solid 7-10$ on coffee and a donut, this may not be your place. If you don't mind, come check it out. It brings that ITP flare OTP.
