This is an awesome store! It’s is like Walmart and Amish store mashup. The new building has a nice cafe and expanded sports section. They have tons of foods, shoes, boots, clothes, fabric, and more! They have parking for your horse and buggy too! So cool!

We happened across this store and loved the variety of items, affordable prices, unique grocery items and friendly staff. If we lived in the area we would be frequent shoppers. If you're just passing by, this is a must stop!

The Dutchman’s Store is a modern take on an old-time general store with something for everyone. They have a little bit of everything and a lot of some things. You’ll find a large selection of shoes, sewing supplies, and groceries with an impressive variety of spices. There’s also clothing, toys, books, hunting and fishing items, a big refrigerated section, fresh and frozen meals, deli options, bakery goods, produce, bulk foods, and discounted items. It’s the kind of place where you go in for one thing and come out with a cart full. They have their ad on a website as well as a Facebook paged posted by someone in the county. On the way out grab a soft serve ice cream in a cup or cone for just $1 or a free cup of coffee.

Only go to The Dutchman if you want to stock your deep freeze at a rock bottom cost. I moved away from Iowa, but every time I drive back, I load up coolers filled with meat and other great deals. We'll worth the detour to save big!

Lots of foods, bulk foods, clothing, produce, kitchenware, etc. It is a large Mennonite business and fun to visit. They have fresh plants and flowers in the spring. Great place to visit! Used their Restaurant today and had a good panini sandwich.

Google
New store is unreal. Very large with lots of selections. And they still have good prices on a lot of stuff. Got 2 dozen brown eggs last time I was there and man were they good. $2.99/ doz. Hy vee or fareway, Aldi there over $5/doz. They have a huge warehouse on the back of the store as well.

Yelp
Wow this place has everything! Need a bolt of cloth? Shoes? Toys for the Kids? Kitchen items? You can find it here. Is this place such a magnet of commerce to an IA city of 300? That is totally a guess, but parking is difficult, especially on the weekend. Honestly, that's a relative issue. The farthest you will park is about a block away. As stated, this is a classic general store. It also has the Target issue where things will magically come into your cart that you don't need, but you are caught up in the moment. For example, I am not sure how, but I have a jar of prickly pear jelly, a jar of pickled beets, 2 pounds of Durham wheat, and a number of other goodies that I didn't need, but I am happy that they are in my possession and safely made its 7-hour journey back home. It will get crowded on the weekend, so be courteous and patient with your fellow patrons. If you are in the area, it is truly a cool place to visit during your Iowa sightseeing adventures.

Yelp
Contrary to some reviews on this store, it is not run by Amish. It is owned and operated by a wonderful Mennonite. This is a very unique store and a must see if you are traveling in SE Iowa.

Yelp
Amazing! There's a little bit of everything. Very charming store. Well maintained and clean. Friendly staff. And above all amazing prices!

Yelp
Prices are a little higher than I remember, I useto live in the area and was here multiple times a week. Love the free ice cream cone and drinks while you shop.

Yelp
well the trip was a bust... bad time to shop in there sat 1:00 pm.... best times to get in here are early am during the week. the place was packed... a few folks wearing a mask.... i found one thing out of my 200 items list... and i got the last 2 in stock! WOW! they were sold out of lots of stuff... hard to restock with that many folks in there! most cards accepted here.

Yelp
We come here every time we're in the area. The store has a huge selection of just about everything!!! From groceries to souvenirs to sewing and crafting, lots of clothes to choose from as well. We love all the special buys they have. Always top quality at low prices. It is a must stop for us when in southeast Iowa!!!

Yelp
I would typically give this place 4-5 starts due to the prices on most items including the bulk section. I was able to pick up quite a few whole grain items and dried beans for very reasonable prices. However, we went during the Covid 19 crisis and none of the Amish employees were wearing protective items nor implementing social distancing guidelines. The place was packed! No stickers on the floor indicating 6 ft spacing while waiting in line for the check out, no one at the door monitoring the number of people entering the store, no signs indicating one-two persons per cart. Heck, there were families wandering around in there. Shame on you. I can't imagine that the Amish don't know about this virus and the implications of not abiding by CDC recommendations.

Yelp
I stop here almost every trip to Iowa and load up on stuff. They always have great deals. I absolutely love them and wish they had a store near KC. Today they went above and beyond and I walked away with possibly the best service experience I have EVER had. I told grandpa that I would make him a mince meat pie. My grandma use to make and can mince meat and grandpa loves it. He seldom gets mince meat now. Dutchmans is the only place I know where I can buy it. It's not grandma's, but grandpa enjoys it. I stopped and there were no cars. I pulled up to the door and a sign said they were closed. They had been closed over an hour. My heart sunk. I saw people inside and figured it was worth a try to see if they would let me buy some. After knocking a couple of times a man came to the door. I asked if I could get some mince meat even though they were closed. He very happily let me in and told me to take my time and that I was welcome to shop and get anything else I needed. I quickly found the mince meat, paid, and thanked him over and over. He told me he couldn't lock anyone out who needed something. You don't often find this kind of service and care for customers. I can't even begin to express adequately and fully how thankful I am.

Yelp
Always enjoy shopping in this store. My wife buys presents - stuff like games and puzzles - that she claims is just as cheap as Walmart and I like getting spices and seasonings. We always buy blueberries when in season. They are shipped from Michigan and better quality than what you get at Hy-Vee or Aldi. The popcorn is much cheaper and better quality that what I get at Hy-Vee. My only disappointment with the store in our visit on 7-17-20, besides being sold out of blueberries, was the employees' total disregard for our safety during this pandemic. Not a single employee was wearing a mask and no signs reminding customers to social distance. Only 40-50% of the customers were wearing masks. The place is always crowded. One good thing, unlike similar stores in the Kalona area, this place accepts credit cards, very important in these modern times.

Yelp
We love shopping here. They have some great quality stuff, along with things in bulk. The spices are pretty plentiful and I find most of their things in better quality than aldi, walmart and hyvee. The workers are always pleasant and friendly, they have beautiful musical clocks that are well made, they are pricey because of the quality, along with the shoes. They also have like a clearance section. Great place to look around and shop at. We always enjoy it.

Yelp
Awesome store! Lots of good deals & fun gadgets for the kitchen. Has a gift like shop connected to it. Watch prices, some are a steal some are priced like any other store. Workers very friendly. Wall of candy you can bag and weigh yourself, my girls thought that was so neat. Beef tenderloin 4.99/lb!! Tons of fresh spices.

Yelp
Can not argue with any of these reviews. The store is nice with items you won't find everywhere. My complaint/warning is that the line to checkout ran the entire length of the store. We had nothing that I would stand in line for that long to purchase so we left. Just beware of how busy they are.

Yelp
Amazing store, you can find basically anything. Aisles NEED to be wider. Subs are amazing. The best collection of herbs, spices and teas.

Yelp
I love this place mainly because the variety of spices and seasonings, multi grain cereals, soup starters and fresh produce. Fun place to shop, but if you can avoid weekends unless you don't mind the wait in line. This is a long building with one part being the grocery store connected by open doorways to quilting fabrics, novelty gifts, good quality workers shoes and clothing (mostly amish/farmers style) and general store items. All reasonably priced. I shop there because I need things but it is also fun just to go and browse. This is a very small town and the Dutchman's is the heart. It's in the middle of farmland off hwy 2 - don't miss the signs.

Yelp
Excellent array of bulk items for great prices. Awesome hand made items for great prices. Workers are so friendly. Been coming here for years with my grandparents and now they are gone but still keeping the tradition going. Bought a 10 pound bag of russet potatoes for $1.29 on sale! Bought a cute apron for my 11 month old daughter to wear when she gets a little older and an adorable bonnet. And lots of bulk spices. Can get really busy but everyone's very friendly.

Yelp
Drove 3 hours, was not impressed with a good deal on clothing, shoes which you can buy at a local store for less, did buy some food items after driving home 3 hours found some of the "good" deals were past expiration dates and had to be pitched out, which I should have checked expiration myself, I did send a message suggesting they remove expired items from shelves, glad I went, but once was enough, buyer beware

Yelp
I travel here a couple times a year just for the spices and baking items, you cannot beat the prices compared to anywhere else. Friendly enviroment, lots of other groceries as well. I love going there. Lori

Yelp
This store is amazing! They have everything here from groceries, clothes, clocks, toys. There's literally something for everyone here. Not to mention most of the stuff here is made locally, and not the typical Wal-Mart foreign quality that most people are used to. The products you buy from this store will last. My wife had some blueberries from here, and said their the best she's ever had in her life. My Grandma was the one who needed to go here, and honestly we didn't expect to spend any money while we were there. So $30 later, we leave with all kinds of different food from here. I even bought a partial Colby Jack cheese wheel, that I forgot at my dads house and never had the chance to try. This is definitely an awesome store, and worth stopping at if you're in the area.

Yelp
While camping in Cantril with our motorhome, we stopped by this unique store for supplies. Besides being a baker's dream store, we found lots of meats and cheeses and breads to take along with us. The bargains abound. I would be making weekly trips to stock up if I lived nearby.

Yelp
Like Stringtown Grocery in Kalona, Dutchman's Store is a treasure trove and worth the trip if you're anywhere close. That might be within 100 miles, 200...depends on how badly you need a jar of pickled eggs. Jams and jellies, unique pickled food, quilting fabrics. Go, spend a couple of hours. You are sure to find something unique. The sausage gravy mix made the best biscuits and gravy I've tasted. I'm scraping the bottom of a jar of red raspberry jalapeño jam that is so delicious, I may have to plan a trip from California to Iowa to get another and stock up on pickled eggs, of course.

Yelp
This is a great place to purchase bulk products & other items your can't get at "normal" stores! This place is run by the Amish. And they have some wonderful products! Everything from fabric, boots, toys, cookware (cast iron & more), lamps, bulk food products, vegetables, meat, goodies... And free coffee! This is with the trip!

Chris M.

Yelp
Visited at this place as kid; it has grown and grown. You can buy bulk of anything you need. The quality is *usually* high, but you do need to examine all you purchase. Of course, if you have kids, you can't miss the bulk candy section - that's my fav because grandma always took me there to grab my sweets.

Yelp
I made my first visit to this establishment in July of 2009. I went after seeing an advertisement in my local paper for really cheap deals on brand name groceries. What I discovered when I arrived was an honest to goodness, old-fashioned country style general store packed with everything and anything you could possibly need and run by some of the friendliest Amish (or Mennonite, I don't know the difference) people I have ever met. They have a huge store! One side is groceries and bulk foods and features homemade Amish baking ingredients and mixes, a fresh meat counter, locally grown fruits and vegetables and an old-fashioned bulk candy display that will take you back in time! The other side of the store is dedicated to clothing, material, crafts and knick-knacks. I didn't have time to look over that side of the store, since I was here for my monthly grocery run. I bought what would have been over $300 worth of mostly brand name foods at retail prices, for right at $100! All the food we have eaten from there has been top quality. We didn't get anything that was freezer burnt or otherwise past it's prime. It was all tasty and delicious and I plan on returning monthly to stock up.

Yelp
This is a wonderful store. I wish we had one in Omaha so I didn't have to drive so far to stock up on things. They buy many items in builk and repackage them to smaller sizes. You can buy dark chocolate covered almond for $5/pound. Vanilla is priced right and their coarse ground pepper is a must-have. They have almost any kind of flour imagineable, their meat array is fresh and competitively priced. Produce looks wonderful and that is just the beginning. They have a fabric area in the store, sell boots, aprons, clocks, tools, canning equipment -- the list goes on and on. I try to get there 3-4 times a year. It's an experience in which my husband is even willing to partake.

Kaye T.

Yelp
This is a "must see" then wish you had one closer to you store. Luckily I have family that goes from time to time so I can send my wish list. This store has everything a baker/cook could want. Wonderful groceries, and overall great general store. Tools, clothes, fabric, shoes, food stuffs, deli meats (must try the horseradish cheddar cheese), local baked goods, spices, fillings, herbs, pots, pans...oh I miss it already! The staff are calm & knowledgeable & friendly. Oh they have plants too!! Wish they had 10 stars..they deserve it
