Yelp
More breakfasts, more pastries, more excellence. Somehow most of my photos from my first review got deleted, so I'm reposting here with an updated review. Everything I said last time I still think, only more, with one improvement and a couple of additions. Great place.
Chocolate Croissant: Just tried theirs again after liking it last year but not thinking of it as elite. This time it was elite: warm, crisp, light, flaky, buttery, and melty of chocolate. This time on the same level as the place to the east that specializes in them.
Danish: The Danish that wowed me and continues to do so is a regular thing but with a rotating filling: strawberry, grape, and melon have all impressed, but I'm hoping they do the pineapple again. But the star is the buttery, flaky dough with plenty of crunch and plenty of give.
Funky Bun: Basically monkey bread, firmer and denser than the other pastries, with a light cinnamon glaze. Fun to pull apart. I prefer the muffins and danish, but your mileage may vary.
Bagel: They only offer two kinds, plain and everything, choosing to keep it simple and execute. Solid, especially the everything bagel. Not the best in a town with good bagels, but right there with them. Their veggie deluxe bagel sandwich is a thing of beauty.
Blueberry Muffin: Like a mini pie with compote and richly luxurious dough. Still among the best few I've ever had anywhere, if not the absolute best. The dough is another winner: fluffy, often warm, rich, moist, and just the right amount of heaviness.
Avocado Toast: Thick, crusty bread that's crisp outside but still has delightful fluffiness within. A jolt in that avocado, plus the crunch and nuttiness of the seeds and spices. So good. I like this more than the bagel and I can't imagine a better avocado toast. Add the house made hot sauce to really bring out the flavor.
Pancakes: Thick, yet still fluffy and light, with browned flavor too. Real maple syrup.
Service: Friendly and quick.
Only downside is the order-at-the-counter service model, which means you might have to wait in line again for a coffee refill.
Bottom line, Dutch's is the most versatile breakfast joint I know. Some things they're the very best at, and the rest they're very close.
