We were planning a destination wedding from afar and had booked Duvall after a few good chats with a great account manager who really seemed to get our vision. Unfortunately, that manager left the company and our replacement seemed a little frazzled with the position. We had very strict dietary preferences on our profile, and when we showed up for our tasting (that we had traveled pretty far for), the meals were not as previously discussed. The chef decided to "try something new" and "go off menu" and ignored all of the notes on our profile resulting in a Bride who was barely able to "taste" anything. This pattern seemed to continue throughout the rest of the planning process; the new account manager could not keep track of her notes and just one week before the wedding was calling to confirm and re-confirm and really had nothing together. It led to some pretty unnecessary last minute stress.
As for the Event Design, I was told I'd chat with a designer for weeks, months even. I emailed, and only received a reply once with their design menu. I felt at peace knowing the décor was in the contract, but leading up to the day I was still nervous that I had never personally spoken with the event designer. In my chats with the catering account manager, she continually tried to convince me larger and more tables were necessary for my small wedding. We came to a "happy" medium, but I'm still a bit annoyed that my dessert table looked sparse because of the larger table I felt pressured to put in the space than I wanted.
Now, let's talk about the bar. During the reception the Groom asked a cousin to grab him one of the Signature Cocktails; It was pre-dinner serving and a bartender told her he was out of vermouth. Our wedding planner chatted with them and found that the bartender had lied simply because he didn't know how to make The Groom's signature cocktail.
At the end of the night, clean up time came. As the Bride, I wasn't there to oversee everything but it seems the cleanup crew kept/threw out the 75 gold chargers we had purchased and brought and somehow misplaced my bouquet (literally heartbreaking).
They did end up earning their almost 3 stars, though, because when it came down to the big day the food was delicious, the décor was beautiful. The Bartender was swapped out for one who knew how to make a drink, and people truly could not stop raving about the food.
