The most exciting new MICHELIN Guide hotels for September 2022

"Singapore’s Chinatown is one of the world’s most unique neighborhoods, and it’s here, in a row of five well-preserved 19th-century shophouses, that you’ll find Duxton Reserve." - Le Guide MICHELIN

Duxton Reserve Singapore

"Give us an establishing shot. Why did this hotel catch your attention? The hotel is nestled in a row of heritage shophouses and its ornate facade immediately gives it character and Asian flavor. That influence is carried through with straw blinds and rattan furniture along the outside corridor—casual touches that make this feel a bit like a resort in the middle of a city. The reception area is a striking combination of black lacquered surfaces and tiles set against yellow and wood accents. Whether you hate it or love it, you get the sense that this is a place that's not afraid to make a bold statement. Tell us about your room. Did you it make you feel at home? My room (no room is the same) was seductively dark and cozy, with a giant four-poster opium bed in its centre. No imagination needed to picture what opium dens looked like in the past, they really did design these after actual opium dens. The bathroom was much more modern—all sleek black tile and chic bathroom amenities by The Organic Pharmacy.  Is there a charge for Wi-fi – and is the quality good? Wi-fi is free and fast. What about the food and drink? Any places you would go even if you weren't staying here? The hotel's restaurant has earned a reputation for delicious, refined Chinese food made from sustainably sourced ingredients. It's one of the rare hotel restaurants that regularly draws non-guests. For a drink, there's the Yellow Pot Bar, which shakes up cocktails infused with Oriental influences, like chrysanthemum-laced gin. Anything stand out about the service? The staff seem genuinely sincere and concerned about whether you have a good stay - a real highlight! Check in and check out was very efficient. For a local experience, the hotel can arrange an in-room visit by a traditional Chinese medicine expert, or tea appreciation workshops. Who are your fellow hotel guests? The crowd: A combination of roving rebels who want something different from the usual city hotel, and sophisticated treehuggers, who care about the impact they have on the environment and want to do something about it (though not enough to give up all their creature comforts). What's in the neighborhood? Is this a place you'd want to hang out? The hotel is smack in the middle of food heaven—it's walking distance to Tanjong Pagar Road a.k.a. Koreatown, a couple of popular hawker centers (try Tanjong Pagar Food Centre for local flavor), and some of the most awarded restaurants in Singapore (grab a table at Burnt Ends if you can get one). Is there anything you'd change? Would be nice if the rooms were less dimly lit. Anything we missed? The deliciously delicate, complimentary tea in every room was created for the hotel by Yixing Xuan Teahouse, a local tea shop a short walk away if you want to take some home. Bottom line: Worth it? A unique option for culture vultures and those looking for something different, though the tiny rooms may seem a little steep for the price." - Audrey Phoon

24 Best Hotels in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"The hotel is nestled in a row of heritage shophouses and was the last heritage building to be approved by Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority for conversion into a boutique hotel. Behind its Chinese, Malay and European design tapestry is award-winning British interior designer Anouska Hempel, sometimes credited with coming up with the whole boutique hotel concept. It's also smack in the middle of food heaven—walking distance to Tanjong Pagar Road a.k.a. Koreatown, a couple of popular hawker centers, and some of the most awarded restaurants in Singapore." - Audrey Phoon

This was a genuinely nice stay! In particular the complimentary breakfast far exceeded expectations as did the cocktails. The rooms are beautifully designed, we stayed in the opium room and it was a bit on the cozy side for two people with luggage, but the bed was super comfortable and it was really a neat place. Location couldn’t be better, smack in the middle of the Chinatown fun. We stayed here for the start of our honeymoon and they did a great job making it special :)

The Duxton Reserve is without question one of the most special, beautiful and luxurious hotels in Singapore. The staff is super friendly, helpful and make you feel very welcome. The breakfast is served à la carte and very high quality. And the room… simply amazing - unique atmosphere, comfortable bed, very spacious and comfortable.|A true gem of the Autograph Collection - well deserved 5 stars!

Location is fantastic, a stone throw away from various delicious restaurants and drinking holes. Hotel feels nostalgic. The air con was just right not too hot or too cold. Lounge access was a little disappointing in terms of exclusivity. The bites and drinks were delightful but cocktail variety was lacking. Room was large but TV was a little small. Recommend to get pearl suite instead of the duplex!

We had the most wonderful 2-night stay at The Duxton in Singapore as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel incredibly special. Our Marriott Gold status was warmly acknowledged, and the team went out of their way to make our stay feel like a celebration rather than just a booking. The hotel is gorgeous, intimate, and full of old-fashioned character. A special thank you to Daniel, Thivana, the whole team, who were exceptionally kind, thoughtful, and accommodating. They treated us to lovely surprises like wine in our room, helped us take beautiful photos around the hotel, and made every interaction feel warm and genuine. They truly made our honeymoon feel personal and memorable, and we’ll always be grateful for how special they made our time at The Duxton.

My partner and I recently stayed at Duxton Reserve for two nights for our honeymoon and everything about our stay was perfect. From the moment we arrived Daniel and Thivana were incredibly welcoming. They made the experience extra special by preparing us some cake, wines and decorations in the room. Thank you for making our stay at Singapore very special :) The architecture and design of the hotel was also exceptional. It feels like you are stepping back into time just by walking around the hotel. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and can’t wait to return again!

Very unique hotel design. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Got upgraded to the loft room and the bathroom is a bit dark but really appreciated the additional space. Front desk kept trying to get me last minute reservations at the few restaurants I wanted to go to and they managed to get one for me. Also always made sure my cup was full of iced americano.

I love staying at the Duxton reserve. It is the epitome of quiet luxury. The rooms are wonderful, the whole hotel has such a cool old world, five star vibe. The location is great. Close to Chinatown, little India, the famous hawker centers, and the train station but tucked away enough it's always quiet. The staff are also incredible. So helpful and they give them best recommendations. Grab a cocktail in the lounge. Ali will make you something amazing and chat about what to do and see in town. If I'm ever in Singapore, I do everything I can to stay here. 10/10 recommend

Stayed here for a few days on a trip back to Singapore with a friend, we both previously lived in SG for two years. Firstly the location is amazing. Very close to Maxwell MRT on the brown line which is accessible to several great areas. Proximity to bars, restaurants, and coffee shops in lively Tanjong Pagar and walking distance to Chinatown. Can’t beat it. The decor is very chic and unique to other hotels. The bar area inside the hotel is especially stunning and we enjoyed taking some photos there. We also had a delicious breakfast in the restaurant. We were upgraded to a suite and while the room was beautiful with a spiral staircase and lofted bedroom, it was a little bit dark. The best part of our stay though was the service from the staff. Friendly, warm, and always ensuring we had everything we needed. We felt incredibly well taken care of, especially by Jamil the Bellman and Sophia at reception, as well as the breakfast staff and bartender. We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to eat at the award winning restaurant Yellow Pot during our short stay but have heard it’s also amazing. Would stay again!

Yelp
Lets be honest, if you're in your late twenties and traveling with your partner and zero kids, a hotel that offers peace and quiet and luxury at an affordable rate is PERFECT. That's exactly what my partner and I experienced with the Six Senses Duxton Hotel. We were picked up at the airport by the hotel driver, we upgraded to a suite at minimal cost and boy was our suite STUNNING. The bed was cozy, the decor chic and beautiful and service was impeccable -- love that they're eco-friendly! I recommend getting breakfast included to your stay -- it's delicious and was the perfect way to start our day adventuring in Singapore. Staff was super helpful and friendly and helped us out whenever we needed directions to certain places nearby. It's not your typical resort -- it's in the beautiful Chinatown area and very close to a wonderful hawker center and public transport. This was THE ideal hotel for us who wanted to stay away from the traditional and really immerse ourselves into the local areas. Loved our stay and would 10/10 stay again!
