Shawarma, hummus, falafel, and puffy pita baked fresh

"You could always dip carrots into some store-bought hummus at home, or you could go to Duzan in Little Egypt for our favorite hummus and pita in the area. It’s so creamy and delicious that you won’t mind decorating your keyboard with hummus in between typing and snacking. They also make great shawarma if you want a more sizable snack." - hannah albertine
"You could keep yourself entertained during this solo dinner by looking at current pictures of child stars from the ’80s, or you could watch guys shave meat off roasting spits with electric saws. If the latter option sounds appealing, check out Duzan in the Little Egypt section of Astoria. This fast-casual Middle Eastern spot serves really good falafel and kebabs, but you could also make a meal out of side salads and any of the six different varieties of hummus." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, matt tervooren
"This to-go-style Middle Eastern spot in Astoria really goes above and beyond with the quality of food they serve. On the menu, you’ll find different styles of meats (shawarma, kofta, kebabs) that are minimally spiced, but cooked perfectly. For the platters, you get to choose two sides with your meat selection, along with additional pita bread if you or anyone you’re sharing with wants to make their own sandwich. And don’t skimp on their tahini sauce, which we personally like to drizzle on the fries." - jiniya azad, sameen choudhry
"Your order: hummus and fresh pita While you could always dip carrots into some sh*tty store-bought hummus at home, you could also go to Duzan in the Little Egypt section of Astoria for our favorite hummus and pita in the area. It’s so creamy and delicious that you won’t mind covering your keyboard in hummus in between typing and snacking." - hannah albertine
"In Astoria’s Little Egypt, it’s pretty common to see someone shaving roasting spits of meat into pitas. But the quality of the shawarma and kebabs at Palestinian-owned Duzan sets it apart from the other counter-service Middle Eastern spots in the area. We recommend the chicken shawarma and some creamy hummus topped with their spicy harissa. The fluffy pitas fresh from the oven will momentarily make you black out, but don’t let the foul mudammas fly under the radar. The pureed fava beans are made to order and served hot with a magical mixture of olive oil, tahini, garlic, and lemon." - neha talreja, hannah albertine, matt tervooren
