Everyone just needs to come here ASAP and support this awesome place! They deserve a crap load of credits and a whole lot more business for their delicious, cheap, vegan food!!!
I've had this place bookmarked for probably about 2 years now, never thought about coming here cuz every time that I'm in the area, I'd either go to Bistro B or La Me which are all located in the same strip mall. Plus, y would I want vegan vietnamese food, when I can have real Vietnamese food? And the whole time I thought D'Vegan was one of those prepared/fast food place, not sure y, but a full on service/sit down restaurant never crossed my mind when it came to this place. Until my SO started doing his "research" and found this place after me complaining for a lil while that I was craving noodles soup. (that's y he's a keeper ;) )
At first glance, the restaurant is not appealing whatsoever from the outside. Located in the back of Hongkong market shopping center. It looks somewhat deserted, the inside is not any better, dark, too big with too many tables and not a lot of customers. If you can get over all that, trust me, you'll be in for a surprise.
The ladies who work here are very nice and sweet. They got much nicer and were surprised after hearing me speak Vietnamese to them lol. For starter, we got the vegetable "egg rolls", and the shredded tofu spring rolls. Both were great. The vegetables in the egg rolls were not mushy like most places. The shredded tofu spring rolls taste a lot similar to the non-vegan version.
My SO had the lemongrass "beef" vermicelli and enjoyed it a lot. Their sauce tastes like fish sauce but without the fishy smell. My vietnamese udon noodle soup (banh canh "tom") had a lot of flavor and was a lot like the regular banh canh which was very surprising.
This place by far is the cheapest vegan/healthy food restaurant I have been to. I just wish it was closer to me so I could come here more often, but for now, I'll just suck it up and pay more at Spiral and cook more at home.
