Great lunch spot for a hot plate. We went in back and picked out our plates. Ours were delicious. Other table partner had a salad ordered from menu, was good too

Lunch with my 3 kids. 4/4 empty plates! Even the picky kid liked the chicken strips! The grilled shrimp was good. The grilled chicken salad was perfect- decent amount of chicken and perfectly flavored.

Old school breakfast, nothing fancy, cheap, great place to eat outside downtown a Saturday morning.

Fun old style diner, with cafeteria style plate lunches and also a full menu to order from ! Service was quick and attentive. Right in the middle of Downtown Lafayette. I got the fried chicken plate lunch, chicken was hot and fresh and the potato salad was delicious! My friend ordered off the menu. I’ve heard their breakfast is really good, I want to go back to try that !

A bit off the path of interstate 10 but not too far. Old fashioned local diner feel. Lots of locals present and on a first name basis. Service was prompt and friendly. Had a basic egg breakfast all good. Nice escape from hotel breakfasts or chain restaurants.

my kind of place local real food I started off with the order of beignets and I ate all six of them. They were different than any others. I’ve had kind of like a croissant type dough very flaky next time I’ll order extra sugar. I’m waiting for the number for breakfast with a hamburger patty eggs over easy well-done hashbrowns biscuit and I added a little gravy for my biscuit

This place was great! We brought my mom there after going to the temple. Delicious food and fast service! Great comfort foods and enough variety for there to be something for everything. They also have delicious Cajun classics! Don’t miss this place!

The food was good. Waitress was nice. They did mess up our orders a bit. Not the waitress, the back, but they were busy. Just forgot a few extra we added like everyones bacon. It's a little weird that breakfast ends at 11. Then it's plate lunches for 20mins , and then they start lunch orders. Then biscuits are amazing 👏 😋 I do recommend. Taste homemade.

I ate lunch here about two days a week for four years. If you live or work downtown it's the best lunch spot in the area.

Dwyer's Cafe is one of those classic Lafayette places that everyone needs to try out! I was first introduced to it by a colleague who grew up in Lafayette. It was popular with ULL students because it offered a substantial homestyle meal at a great price. This is still true today! Dwyer's is located in the reinvigorated Downtown area of Lafayette, which is a great place to visit. Make sure to park in a place where it is legal to do so, and pay the meter or at the private parking lot. There are some free two-hour places nearby as well. Dwyer's itself is located on a corner, and has a small but nice exterior dining area. This is a good place to sit if the weather is good, and you want to watch life go by. Indoors there are comfortable seating areas, which are nicely climate controlled. I usually go for lunch, which is served cafeteria style. The serving line is in the rear of the interior dining area. Just walk right up and order, get your food, then go sit down and a waitress will serve you your drink. Typically, one gets an entree, three sides, and bread. The food is tasty, hearty, and homey. The daily options vary so one can make healthier choices if one is so inclined. On Fridays, seafood entrees will always be offered. Roasts with rice and gravy are often featured. The pricing is a good value for the quality and quantity of food served! Go try out this unique place that's popular with the locals. Afterwards, one can walk right down the street and get some coffee, or just go shopping and sightseeing in the Downtown area.

Breakfast was delish! Smaller cafe with hometown feel and great atmosphere. Locals gathered together to share stories and laughter making for an entertaining meal. Waitress was very friendly and personable. Going back tomorrow!

3 stars given because the staff here was really nice and the service was fast. We came in on Monday around 1pm- and were hoping for a late breakfast. Unfortunately, they stopped selling breakfast at 11am so we decided to order some BLT's. Do they come with a bag of chips or side of fries...? Nope! So we ordered a side of mozzarella sticks to share. The BLT was the smallest, thinnest sandwich. I think the whole thing had 2 teeny tiny pieces of bacon on it. Also, the mozzarella sticks were obviously frozen and came with pre-packaged heinz marinara sauce in single serve containers. The best thing about our meal was the 2 iced coffees we ordered. Somehow, whole thing came to $35 with tip. (2 BLT's, 1 order of Mozz Sticks and 2 Iced Coffee's) I don't think it was worth nearly this much. It was overpriced and mediocre at best. And to top it off... there was a pretty big dead bug in the bathroom! I won't be back!

My party was told to sit wherever. We sat outside because the inside tables were occupied or had dirty dishes on them. We never received any service. We left without receiving any acknowledgement after about 15 minutes waiting.

Horrible service. Don't waste your time. I'm so tired of these businesses begging people to support local but when you try them, it's obvious they don't value your business.

The first time I ever came I basked in the aftermath of the delicious flavors that enveloped my mouth but today I was very disappointed. I had seafood casserole, black eye peas, and smothered okra with cornbread. The casserole was way too mushy and everything lacked flavor. I had to put salt, pepper, and Tabasco just to enjoy my meal. The Oreo pie wasn't much to brag about either. The next time I come here I will only have breakfast.

Arguing staff, no service, no thanks. I'd leave no stars, but that's not an option. Does the A/C work?

Date of our visit was 03/30. This is a mixed review. I'll start with the food. My wife had the plate lunch. Roasted pork with brown gravy over rice, potato salad and green beans. Tender pork and tasty gravy were excellent. Potato salad and green beans were very good. Strawberry shortcake was very good. Overall rating 4.5 of 5. I had the chicken fried steak with cream gravy, mashed potatoes and rice with brown gravy. The steak is the kind that you get at Dairy Queen. Previously frozen and not real steak. Mashed potatoes tasted like instant kind. Cream gravy was good. The rice and brown gravy were the best item of my meal. Overall rating 2 of 5. I should have gotten the same plate lunch as my wife. Service was good and we would return. In the event we visit again, and they aren't serving breakfast, we'll both go for the plate lunch.

There's a place in downtown Lafayette where you can find lawyers going over their closing arguments while enjoying a cup of coffee, older Cajun gentlemen laughing and speaking loud Cajun French, members of a local garden club discussing important improvements and your typical family enjoying a meal out together. It just feels like home in here. It's warm and inviting. We came on a rainy morning and must have been spotted while we were parking because when we reached the door it was being held open for us and the hostess had bags for our umbrellas. Yeah, it's that kind of place. Lately I've been on an omelette kick so the first time I went I tried the western omelette and really enjoyed it but the shrimp omelette I had on my next visit stole the show and won my heart. It was FULL of shrimp, cheese, onions and mushrooms and was seasoned so perfectly that I didn't add a thing to it. Even the waitress had food envy. She said she watched the chef make it and it looked so good she ordered one for herself. If you haven't been, go check it out, and if you have keep showing this fabulous place your love! #900

Stopped in at Dwyer's while walking around the area. Great old diner feel and menu items. Lots of great specials and generous portions. Service is personable and food was delicious. Great prices too!!!

We stopped at Dwyers for breakfast and it did not disappoint! We had such a great experience! Our server was Alex and he was so attentive, friendly and just all around AMAZING! We will definitely keep this little spot as a favorite to come back to. Also, the crab cake Benedict was absolutely delicious!

One of the few places open day after Turkey Day! Boudin omelette was off the charts. Rich and creamy. Even using your John Deer to get here. Hehe

This place was great! Nice staff that new I was from out of town and chatted with me making me feel social! Then you go down the hall and the food is out for you to see and make a plate. I got some to Go and everything is soooo good! Candied yams and the Lima beans might be my favorite ! I'm very pleased

It's a shame that one or two disrespectful staff members can reflect so poorly, on what may have been an ok place. My husband ordered daily plate. I ordered off the menu, 20-30 min later I checked with the waiter asking if he had put my order into the kitchen, said he'd check find out the problem. Never returned to the table... which was awkward as he delivered to tables sat much later. Went to front where I asked a woman supposedly the manager if she could find out what was going on, she told me I wouldn't be charged for it and it would be taken off the bill.... Happy Mother's Day to me... No Breakfast- thanks for checking and for the free ice tea- don't worry won't bother in the future. 2 because the staff in the back that were doing the deli dish were nice, would have gotten that instead had I been given the option

My friend and I stopped in at this location a while back while road tripping through Louisiana. I literally dream about their fried chicken. DREAM. I crave it every so often and wish I could marry it with the best waffle I have ever had (which is a place on Miami Beach). If you are traveling to or through Layfayette, have a bite at Dwyers.

The best way I can say is this - these people are plate lunch masters! The food is always great, portions are huge, and everyone is always super nice. Five star all the way

If you want some good home-cooking in LA, look no further! First of all, the staff were very pleasant and were very accommodating for our kids and gave us some menu tips. Thing is, there is no other option you should pick then getting the plate meal in the back. 1 meat and 3 sides with heaping servings that you get in line cafeteria style and ask them for. I got the smothered steak with dirty rice, potato salad, navy beans and cornbread and my wife got the meatballs with corn, mashed tators, rice dressing and also the cornbread. All of it was finger-lickin good. And that smothered steak on top of the rice was just spectacular. Stop on by and if you leave hungry it's your own dang fault.

Parking Beware: Dwyer is in Lafayette business district an employee stated weekend parking on the street is Free; other wise Pay the meter. The parking lot across the street is very weird and small. The parking meters are on the outside of the parking lot. Before ordering ask about the self serve little buffet area food. We, did not know other types of food was offer until we ask the waitress; why are customers coming from the back with plates. Food: Breakfast stops before 11am I had hamburger steak dinner with sweet potatoes, whip potatoes, roll. Hamburger steak and whip potatoes was pretty good, smell delicious. Sweet potatoes need more ingredients taste very very bland. Dessert I purchased a brownie $2.50 -$3.00 Save your money use it for the tip. I don't think people want refrigerated brownies. Look at the brownies picture they looks so good. Keeping the brownies on the counter over night or make them daily the refrigerator dry them out leaving a nasty taste. Prices are reasonable $ Staff was ok.

Well racism is very much alive and well within this business. As soon as my party and I entered the building all heads turned. We were 4 African American and Hispanic professional women that weren't greeted, told to "just sit over there" , referencing a table with only three chairs. We sat ourselves, I got a chair from another table and was looked at as if I'd literally stolen something. Our waitress NEVER came to our table. We NEVER received a menu..but the tables on either side of us were spoken to and helped as we sat and watched. Seeing that we were getting no where fast, we decided our money didn't need to be spent here. It's 2021..you all need to do better.

Reediculous good! Had the boudin omelette w homemade hollandaise and French toast! Coffee was ok but the homemade food was on point! LOOOOOVE the decor! As soon as you see it from the road, you want to go in! Stepping back in time and can wait to go back!

Best breakfast and lunch around. For the price you pay for the amount of food you get, you can't go wrong or leave hungry. Food is delicious every time I eat there and that's a few times a month. Highly recommend trying this place for breakfast and lunch if you haven't.

It was a pretty good place. I had the BLT which came out quickly and was good. It wasn't much but the service was quick.

It's been a few years since I've been here. Omg! It's older, kind of like an old very large hole in the wall? I love it. We walked in and they said if we wanted plate lunches to go to the back and told us the different sizes we could get. Whole (main dish and three sides), half (main dish and one side), or kids (smaller portion and three sides). We both got kids plates which I love doing as an adult! There was so much food. If you want some down home cooking this is the place to stop! Impressed with everything. Tasted like my mom made it. Their mashed potatoes may be the best I've ever had. Sooooo satisfying. Worth the stop!

Sadly it wasn't my favorite breakfast place. The eggs and omelets were ok and the grits were quite chunky. Best part was the decaf coffee. The hospitality is quite nice though.

I visited over the weekend from New Orleans and WOW, hands down the best gumbo I have EVER had. The roux was so rich and deep & the perfect consistency, the sausage cut in large chunks & served with rice on the side. I chided myself on not committing to an entire bowl and I spent the rest of the weekend sampling gumbo in New Orleans with the cool weather but nothing compared to here. Also, I had a half catfish poboy and WOW, THAT BREAD. Far too often poboys are weighed down with super dense french bread but this was so pillowy soft, it really highlighted all of the different textures of the ingredients. It says a lot considering most of the time I imagine eating a poboy and having to tear at the bread with my incisors to rip it apart like a wildabeast. A really unassuming but incredibly delicious spot--I would drive two hours from New Orleans to eat that gumbo any day.

Service was painfully slow and the quality of the food was poor. The kitchen looks really dirty.

I've been in love with Lafayette (in passing) for years. We are at Dwyer's for lunch today...best home cooked meal I have ever had outside of my own kitchen. The staff were so awesome! We talked, ate, laughed. Wonderful place! I will be back!

I loved the food, atmosphere, and the homey feeling it gives off. I didn't know good food could be so affordable and yummy. I had the Boudin omelette: Comeaux Louisiana boudin, hollandaise sauce and pepper jack cheese. On the side, I had a sweet potato waffle. Both was yummy and I'll be back!

Always wanted to eat here, finally got the chance. This is home cooking at its best. When entering the establishment, you see many friendly customers and workers. You have to seat yourself, so choose a seat anywhere. The people are nice and helpful, and environment was cozy and chatty. The food was awesome. We had the following: - #3 Breakfast - tastes like what mom cooks at home, delicious! However, I must comment on the hash browns, I prefer the crispy hash browns, these are almost like mash potatoes in my opinion. Nevertheless, they were delicious, I just prefer crispy hash browns though - Biscuit with white gravy - awesome biscuits and gravy, tastes like its made from scratch, was debating on ordering more biscuits just so I can dip the gravy! - Waffle - big & delicious, crispy exterior and fluffy interior, yum! - French toast - the French toast was also delicious! First time at dwyers, but most definitely won't be my last. *****UPDATE***** They also have a very delicious lunch menu! And the great thing is.. they start it really early, I had their lunch for breakfast :)

My husband and I stopped in here for lunch on a Friday. It is self seating and we easily found a table to sit at. Our waitress was friendly enough and took our drink orders. Then we went to the back to get our plate lunches. I got the Roast Beef with brown Gravy over White Rice with a side of Mac 'N Cheese, Cornbread and Cheesecake since they were out of the Oreo Pie. The Rice and Gravy was tasty enough, but the Roast Beef was on the tough side. The Mac N' Cheese was delicious with the perfect amount of cheese and spice. The Cornbread was a little on the dry side and needed a touch of sweetener to perk it up. The Cheesecake was perfect! It was so good and luscious, I could've eaten at least a half of it all by myself as a meal. The crust was obviously homemade with the perfect amount of buttery goodness. I would definitely go back, but try the Pork Roast with a Biscuit instead. And as good as the Cheesecake was, I'd still like to try the Oreo one.

We recently discovered this little gem and are so happy. We just moved here from California and had been looking for a breakfast spot for our Sunday breakfast dates. I'm so glad we found Dwyer's. Every meal (except the eggs benedict) has been amazing. We have yet to try lunch but have been told it's just as good too.

I hate to use a cliche like "true local gem," but... it is! Excellent breakfast this morning. Great breakfast sandwich and nearly perfect biscuits. I've had dinner here before and it was also great. Fast, friendly, efficient service. Can't wait to go back.

Eating here I know I am in Louisiana. Super. Great plate lunch (I had beef stew, very tasty; dirty rice, just like you'd want; perfect carrots, sweet) while my date had some nice pork. One weakness--they make their sweet tea with Splenda. What the hell? Seriously, you walk into Dwyer's thinking you are supporting your New Years' diet resolution? Weak! Simple place, great food, good prices, nice folks, classic spot.

Another great place for breakfast in my home town. A lot of things are a la carte but the prices are reasonable and the portions aren't skimpy. It's always packed and the staff is always warm and friendly. If you're looking for breakfast give them a try.

I love this place for lunch when passing through Lafayette. Steam table. Fresh homecooked recipes, comfort food. My most recent was the catfish courtbouillon with green beans, corn bread. So many awesome choices. Menu varies daily. Love the outgoing kitchen staff and friendly waitresses. Big parking lot out back. Gets busy. Get off that interstate and get some awesome food!

Came here for breakfast Saturday. Normally we if we don't cook breakfast, we go get breakfast kind of early to avoid the crowds. But we got here around 9, and it was busy but not too busy... Zero wait on a table. The food was one of the best I've had and that my friend had. And cheap. We both got a ton of food, coffee and juice, £27. And the waiter the bomb. This is probably my new favorite place in Lafayette now when we're there on the weekends. And will for sure be coming back.

My favorite breakfast date spot with my husband and kids. Super yummy hash browns. Waitresses are always very sweet and restaurant is very clean. Their plate lunches are also great!!

Food was awesome! I ordered a double patty hamburger which was huge. I didn't expect it to be as big as it was. I also ordered a grilled Catfish P.O. boy, and a side of homemade Onion rings. Food was a little slow to come out, but I It was worth the wait. I highly recommend dining here.

My hashbrowns were cold had to ask 2 times to Heat them up , grits were Also cold my English muffin was burnt but my server was sweet and my bacon was very good

Love this cafe . I have eaten there many times! Good service and good food! It has been around for a long time! Working people downtown , enjoy Dwyer's , I don't work downtown but have enjoyed it. I will make a special trip to Dwyer's. Cause I know the quality of the food there. Good atmosphere!

We loved it! People super nice, great plate lunches. They have been in busy for over 60 years and owned by the same family. We eat there again when I come back through town.

We had lunch here today and the food was delicious! The plate lunches are huge. Could definitely split one with 2 ppl. The food and service were both great! Will definitely be back to try breakfast
