Google
The food was great. Just what we had hoped for. Fresh and tasty. These ladies were working hard to fill tons of orders fast. Seating area is small, so grab it to go and find a nice place to sit on campus. You won’t be sad.

Google
I have always enjoyed their Mediterranean plate - so flavorful! Their food comes quickly, too, and the place has good seating.

Google
Delicious and huge portion for the price. Good cost performance.

Google
Really like their gyro platter. This is one of the resto I went to whenever I was too lazy to prepare my lunch. The food is flavorfull

Google
Delicious food, but they kicked me out an hour before closing. First off, the food itself is great! I got the Beef Kebab Plate and the beef was juicy and flavorful. Everything was good and plenty for one person. About $15 which is average for the area. But what was disappointing was that they kicked me out of the restaurant an hour before they close because they wanted to close early. I had only been sitting for about 15 minutes when they told me they would be closing in 2 minutes at 8:55pm because it was slow. I had to pack up the little food I had left, and it was cold by the time I got home. It felt rude and awkward. I have mixed feelings now. The food was really good, but being rushed out like that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Google
I’ve been a frequent customer since freshman year and I am graduating in a week! Its been a great time. Great food, service and place. They are fast and taste/ingredients have always been consistent. Thank you for feeding me on my hangriest days!! Also one of the chefs knows that I like to put lime juice on my beef and lamb gyro plate and he remembered today.

Google
Ordered from here twice. First time I got the chicken shawarma plate, and it was good but the chicken was a bit too salty. The pita was nice and fresh and the rice was fluffy. Second time I ordered the avocado falafel wrap with hummus, but there was no avocado or hummus. I like onions, but they were particularly heavy with them with my wrap. It didn’t taste balanced.

I said 'Esselamu aleykum' as greetings and didn't get any answer. One woman stand next to Gyro and the other with Hijab on the phone. Their attitude like 'why did you come here?'. I asked 'do you speak Turkish, answer was a strong ''No!' with unfriendly face. I gave my order 'a gyro wrap' and charged $13.00without saying 'Thank you!' ir any word. I watched both Gyro stand not running. The lady took from a plate, put some oil on it and tried to warming. Didn't take a minute, then wrapped and put on the grill to warming again, but didn't take 30secs. I took it as a cold meat-wrap like a dog food with sauer face. I asked if there is souce with it, she throw it to table. You can not see this kind treatment not even from worst enemy! Never again! By the way we were 2 bus full people with 90 person. They lost, I can get food from anywhere other then this place.

Yelp
I love the food, interior of this place and the service. Very tiny spot with 6 tables and a few bar stools but worth the visit if you're in Berkeley for flavor, quality, and portions.

Ophelia F.

Yelp
Love the chicken shawarma salad. A healthy, filling, and fresh meal that I like to order when I cannot make dinner. Light and bright house dressing made with great EVOO. Friendly service at counter. Would be even better if dine-in area were cleaner, but it's an old building.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST Mediterranean food here in the Bay Area. Ive been to D'yar's for years now and sporadically in between times as well. The quality and portions never change. Its absolutely amazing how they've kept it just as delicious as the first time Ive had it. What absolutely shocked me too was the portion sizes still? Over the years restaurants cut back but man they give you such a hefty portion still today with a pile of lamb meat. This entire plate cost me $15 and its rare these days to get a good meal for under $30 in the Bay. Like everything in life, plan ahead. If you are remotely feeling hungry, order ahead or head out to the restaurant early. They will be swamped with doordash orders through the streets. We came around 11 when it first opened and got our food less than 10 mins of ordering. It was such a nice and peaceful meal.

Serina A.

Yelp
After 5 months since my last visit, this place is still on top! Their CHICKEN SHAWARMA was seasoned and roasted perfectly, the rice was fluffy, the bread was soft, their tzatziki and salad were fresh, and the price was still amazing for the portion. I recommend this spot to anyone searching for delicious Mediterranean food in the area!! I wish I could've taken a photo before I scarfed down my entire plate.

Dev R.

Yelp
Not worth the wait, but great food and value. Great wraps and rice plates for a reasonable price. Service staff was polite but a bit dismissive. Waited 40-50 mins for our to-go order at a relatively calm hour.

Angelina Z.

Yelp
Super hearty meal and great for the price too! I got the chicken plate and loved everything on it. The chicken was well seasoned, fries were crispy, and bread was warm. There was a good amount of hummus too. The salad was a tad soggy but still good.

Karen N.

Yelp
This is my go to lunch spot near campus. Good food made by friendly people at a reasonable price that doesn't make you feel bloated. The veggies are always fresh and crunchy. There's limited seating but they have a few tables. Everything is kept clean which is reassuring.

Sydney J.

Yelp
I ordered on Snackpass since there was a 20% off for first order discount. I got a falafel deluxe wrap, which was ready pretty quickly after I ordered which was on Sunday around lunchtime. Although it didn't stand out as spectacular or unique, there was a decent amount of falafel and overall with the discount, the portion was good for the price. They are a solid choice for Mediterranean food if you are near UC Berkeley campus, it's right next door to the Durant food court. They don't have outdoor seating but you can walk to nearby places like the Durant food court or campus to sit down and eat outdoors.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Great food for the price! I ordered a wrap and my friend ordered a bowl, which both came out pretty quickly. There's only a small seating area because people usually order to-go, and there's no trash cans. Order through Snackpass to find discounts!

Parisa Z.

Yelp
Pretty disappointing experience, and I hope it was just a fluke and their food is normally better! My partner and I ordered from here through DoorDash around 7:30pm and our order arrived way later than anticipated because the dasher had to wait 30 minutes for our order, which was mostly consisted of cold/pre-prepared items. We ordered the Mediterranean plate (comes with hummus, baba ghanoush, salad, tabbouleh, 2 dolmas and 2 falafel), a 6-piece order of dolmas, and an additional side of baba ghanoush. We couldn't tell whether our plate came with pita, especially because it was nowhere on the menu and there was no way to order an additional side, which we wanted to do. We looked at photos online and confirmed that pita did at least come with the Mediterranean plate, and we couldn't tell whether our side of baba ghanoush would include any pita and there was no way to order more so we just kind of hoped they would give us some. When we got our food, we had 3 tiny triangles of pita (not even amounting to 1 whole piece of pita). The majority of the Mediterranean plate and the extra baba ghanoush was overpowered by salt. All other flavors and textures were completely overpowered by the over-saltedness of the food. It was borderline inedible (especially without pita to balance it). The two pieces of falafel actually a nice crispness that held up on delivery which is not always the case with delivery and were not the same salt-bomb that the rest of the plate was The domas weee actually pretty good--definitely the best part of the meal--but unfortunately we only received 5 dolmas in our 6-piece order which was disappointing. I will say their prices are pretty reasonable and it's possible the food experience might have been a fluke--maybe one person in the kitchen accidentally poured and entire container of salt over everything. The experience definitely wasn't worth the reasonable prices and the delivery fees, but If I'm in the area and hungry for dolmas and falafel, I would probably try them again just in case this was just a bad night for them.

Mahsa F.

Yelp
The food was amazing we had the chicken shawarma plate and chicken shawarma wrap and they were both beyond our expectations Thank you

Jason H.

Yelp
I was physically blocked and threatened for attempting to use the bathroom without ordering first. I was forced to let someone behind me in line use the bathroom first so I left after a very confrontational exchange. Spoiled what was otherwise a spectator evening celebrating with friends.

JA C.

Yelp
Ordered via Caviar. Both orders of fries not on receipt (despire confirming in app) or order. Ordered sandwich without tomatoes, the bag says no tomato, loaded with tomatoes. Sandwiches are cold, meat is tough, wrap is warm but but really tough. Driver took less than 10 minutes to arrive, not enough time for hot food to get literally cold. Def better, cheaper options in Oakland/Berkeley for quality and service.

Will L.

Yelp
My favorite lunch-to-go place by campus. The beef and lamb plate is always full of delicious food.

Amelia Z.

Yelp
Good food, big portions for the price, deals on snackpass, inside is clean, etc. But what really stands out to me is that the staff are so consistently friendly and kind!

Sophie C.

Yelp
Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had! It was empty when we went in around 1pm, but it smelled delicious and the prices were reasonable so we decided to try it. I'm glad we did- the salad was very fresh, chicken was perfectly cooked, and the portion sizes were great. Came out within 5 minutes too! I wasn't that big of a fan of the rice, next time I'll go with the fries. Overall though, great flavors and great bang for your buck!

Eve C.

Yelp
We picked up food here before heading to the Greek theater. Super convenient to the Greek. Food was exceptional! We got falafel deluxe spicy which was awesome and perfect spicy. The babaganoush was the best I have had in the Bay Area. We got a side of the beef/lamb Shwarma and it was top notch. The value was also impressive very inexpensive for Bay Area. We live in SF but will have to go back just for this food!

Ashley C.

Yelp
Ordered off of Snackpass on a Tuesday lunch for the first time and felt a bit disappointed. Overall, for the other options you could get in Berkeley, this spot is pretty low on my list since I was just a bit disappointed with the plate. Not that it was bad, just pretty simple/basic. They offer indoor dining now, and whip out orders pretty quickly, but apart from that, there food wasn't as spectacular as I'd hope. Got the chicken shawarma plate and the hummus felt a bit diluted in oil. There wasn't too much chicken either and was hoping for a bit more in the salad.

Katherine G.

Yelp
Delicious falafels! I can't believe it took me almost 4 years to try this place, but I had heard that they had some of the better falafels around here. I decided to order a side of them as a snack in between classes, and they did not disappoint! It came with a side of tahini which was a great accompaniment. The falafels were perfectly crispy yet not too greasy, and the inside was really fluffy with great flavor. I also liked how they gave it on a little pile of salad. I would definitely go back to try more of their items!

Bruce H.

Yelp
Dee-lish-us!! Terrific food and quickly prepared. We had the med plate, a falafel and avocado wrap, the lamb plate and chicken shawarma. All were tasty, hot and flavorful. Nice staff too.

H S.

Yelp
Lamb kebab wrap had very little lamb. Wrap itself was dry. Beef and lamb kebab wrap had no lamb and the beef was tough inedible chunks. Money down the drain. Should have just gone to Super Duper a few doors away.

Boris F.

Yelp
Really good food. I love their shawarmas, they are very thick and have a lot of ingredients. If you're ordering on an app, just make sure you put you want everything on it. I love shawarma, and this shawarma wrap gets. 10/10. Everytime I am in berkeley I stop by and eat inside. Great restaurant, great ambiance, and service.

Jingwei K.

Yelp
I've walked by D'yar many times during undergrad but never actually stepped in since there were cheaper options around the Durant/Telegraph area. Finally got the chance to visit and I ordered a falafel wrap and chicken shawarma platter for takeout - should have checked my order more carefully since a couple things were missing. The falafel wrap didn't come with any sauce and was really dry. The platter at least had the yogurt sauce, salad, pilaf, and hummus to keep it from being too dry, but it was also missing the hot sauce we ordered. Overall, food was alright, but there's a couple other Mediterranean options in the area worth visiting first.

D C.

Yelp
Good falafel wrap. Fast service. All under fairly reasonable price. It is near Durant food court so can buy and eat in open air tables/chair setting. Only down is when I asked for "spicy" it is not really spicy.

Elle G.

Yelp
My first time here it's was around 11am so not very busy I was able to walk in and order immediately the staff were friendly although I would have appreciated them to be a bit more informative. The food came fairly quickly, the restaurant is small but is plenty of seating inside. I ordered a Chicken Kabob plate that came with rice, salad, & hummus. Quality of the food was great it was delicious my only complaint was that the chicken was a bit over cooked so some parts were hard to chew but overall this was a very satisfying meal.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Most recent visit and last visit! Service was bad, The man who works there is rude... the two women were nice but the one mama who was there was very Chauvinistic and rude. The food tastes different, definitely not the same as the food they used to have. The falafel and fries tastes like old used oil. They falafels weren't completely cooked thru. The center of the falafel was raw and doughy, The hummus was very plain tasting, just really bad now.

Molly L.

Yelp
The food here is decent. I've ordered the pita pocket and fries and the chicken sandwich and fries. However, it can be inconsistent in terms of what they have in stock. For instance, they've run out of pita pockets but have been able to serve me sandwiches with a similar texture. The sandwiches are also very oddly crafted. The shreddings of lettuce and tomatoes are all the way at the bottom but the meat is at the top. So the sandwiches are very imbalanced no matter what way you have them - no vegetables in most bites and no meat in other bites. I also don't like that many times I've ordered here they serve my food to me after others coming in behind me. It can get frustrating at the lack of consistency, order, and seating (since the place is a bit cramped), but the food is pretty good if you can be okay with the other pitfalls of this place.

Kevin B.

Yelp
This is a cheap, good eats place. Geared for the Cal students & to pick up. However, I did enjoy eating in the little space. I highly enjoyed the chicken Shawrama plate. The chicken was tender & seasoned nicely. It came with a side of Mediterranean rice, small simple salad & creamy hummus with pita bread. Everything tasted fresh & seasonal. Will defiantly go back for lunch or a quick dinner.

Mark B.

Yelp
The interior is a bit dated, but the food is very good. My family tried a variety of things and all was good. The staff was helpful and I saw people I met about a year ago pop in for food so it has customers who would know what's a good value in the area.

John B.

Yelp
the nerve they have serve people garbage food low quality. Don't eat here you'll regret it meats are dried as a rock and the salad is as a joke now. what happen to the old staff or owner it's seriously down hill

Dani P.

Yelp
So delicious! Got the Mediterranean plate, which is an awesome mix of fresh, steaming falafel, savory feta, baba ghanoush, zingy salad dressing, and really delicious dolma. I was stuffed! Worth every penny, would definitely go back!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Came here on a whim after finishing a hike near Inspiration Point and happy that we did lamb and beef gyro platter: can choose either fries or rice as a side. They're quite generous with the amount of meat served and can easily be shared if you're not too hungry. Meat was cooked well and on the crispier side. Also ordered the falafels (average) with a side of babaganoush (above average). Overall, would recommend if you are looking for a solid Mediterranean spot.

Hesper W.

Yelp
I did a delivery order and got the lamb kebab wrap and it was not as good as I hoped it would be. The lamb pieces were tough and were waaay to big to be eaten in a wrap. Other than that, everything else in the wrap was decent. I just wouldn't recommend getting the lamb kebab wrap at this place.

M Bilal H.

Yelp
The beef is burned and the portion is sooo low waw! It keeps shrinking with time.....

Audio F.

Yelp
Got the grilled chicken plate, it was cooked to order and tasted fresh, all the components were great, Grilled chicken, hummus, salad, pita bread, fries, and tzatziki. Appears to be a family run spot, with friendly and efficient service the way it should be. For the amount of food given and quality the price was pretty affordable, around $12.50. Will go back again.

Kaine P.

Yelp
The food was okay, could've been cooked better. The meat was not tender and juicy, the fries were half-cooked. We also felt judged coming in, the cook was staring hard. Ate the Chicken Kabob Shwarma Plates and the Beef Schwarma Plate they were mid.

Moe M.

Yelp
Falafal wrap i ordered was okay .. but terrible service!! Why would I end up again! No concept of customer retention..

Louise S.

Yelp
The food still tastes so good, and the boss is still arrogant. She never says thank you to each other. She still doesn't wear gloves when she cooks food. Today I saw the man who cooks the food and directly cooks the food after receiving the payment.the last time!

Jim A.

Yelp
For a super tasty lunch for reasonable prices, check out D'Yar near downtown Berkeley. I found this place as I was working several blocks away on the UC campus and it was so good and satisfying I ended up having it every day for lunch. I would come in pretty late, around 2pm, and never had much of a wait for my food. The staff were always very friendly, I learned a bit of arabic to say thanks as I overheard them using the language. My go-to was a mini gyro type deal/special they have for lunch. The pita pocket was sizable and came with fries. I had it with falafel, and theirs was the best I've had in a long, long time. They don't use much anything spicy, but a ton of herbs make them so fresh and crispy I was addicted. They have lettuce, yogurt sauce, onion and some tomatoes and cucumber all inside as well. Fries were substantial and well cooked to crispy goodness. I think it was running $8 or less! Take a break and taste the mediterranean for a great price at D'Yar.

Naz K.

Yelp
I ordered beef kabob with fries. Oh gosh it made me sick. The beef was OLD oil fried, and then put on grill (as to heat) and give customer impression that it's grilled. The taste was grouse, it was more like Perking Chinese food. The fries was also NOT FRESH. It was pre-fried heated and served. You can tell by looking at the oily ONIONS in there. IT WAS WASTE OF MONEY, made me sick. Filthy place too. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Shao-Lon Y.

Yelp
If you're looking to get a lot of good food at a low price, then you should try this place. For around $10, you can get a plate of meat, fries or rice, hummus, a small salad, and some pita. The plate is just big enough to split into two meals, and the food is pretty good also. My favorite meat is the beef and lamb gyro meat. I don't like lamb because it always has a gamy flavor, but the beef and lamb here didn't taste gamy at all. It's rich and tender and has a lot of flavor. I also like how it's shaved thinly so it fits into the pita nicely. The chicken shawarma meat is also pretty good. I thought that the chicken would be dry, but it was surprisingly juicy and tender. I especially liked the crispy bits that were cooked a bit extra because the caramelization gives it a lot of flavor.

Yelp
First issue: the cook did not wear his mask. He had it under his chin. I was the only customer in the restaurant and he didn't hear me come in. When he turned around, he got surprised and put his mask on. Also, he was touching the food without any gloves and handling the money as well. They definitely are not following COVID guidelines. 2nd issue: I am absolutely disgusted by how they treated me over the phone. I picked up my food after I called in and by the time I got back to my place, I realized that they gave me beef instead of chicken. I called them to explain that it was wrong, but the guy started saying "this is actually your mistake. Not mine. A lot of customers order wrong. I know the menu." I tried explaining that I was reading the order off a text message so I know I didn't say beef gyro instead of chicken shawarma, but he still insisted that I said beef gyro and that it was my mistake. I don't understand why he would start blaming me if he took the order incorrectly. I just told him to forget about it and have a good day. I'd rather not force him to make me a new one and have him spit in my food. I've been coming here for 4 years now, but I will never again. It's unsanitary and they are rude to their customers.

Al P.

Yelp
The quality of the food has been on a steep decline the last couple years at the same time prices have shot upward and portions have diminished. But we kept coming, because - as I mentioned in my previous post - we had adopted the place as ours, and wanted to support it during tough times. But no more. After finishing our meal, our son had to use their restroom, which had been allowed since we first visited the then-named Eat-A-Pita back in 1991 and had continued to be allowed at our visit just a month ago. As my son is disabled, I accompanied him. Then, one of the staff - an elderly cook- raced back to restroom and barged in as my son was on the toilet and screamed at the both of us in broken English. There were no indications, no signs to suggest their policy had changed. It was one of the greatest humiliations we've ever experienced in public, and there is no way we'd ever consider returning. I'm sure they won't miss the sixty bucks we drop at every visit, but if this is the way they've decided to operate, I'm sure we won't be the last customers to abandon them. There are plenty of good restaurants on Telegraph, and replacing them will be easy.

Kanika J.

Yelp
Placed my order at 4:03 and was about to walk out because the cook had a chin mask instead of covering his mouth and nose while the cashier had on her mask properly. She was not that friendly either, but a least she washed her hands after taking my cash. It seems the new protocol at quite a few places is to fill the Door Dash orders first and make face to face customers wait! So, one Door Dash person was waiting for an order while the eat in customers and myself had to wait and wait and wait. Another Door Dash person arrives, and the cook told him it would be 5 minutes. He came back 10 minutes later, and his order still wasn't ready. When I finally got my order, it was 4:26. I got a Deluxe Falafel Wrap. Not impressed at all and I used to eat here all the time. I'm not sure if they have new owners, but there is definitely a big difference. You could tell the wrap was thrown together in a rush and it was a big fat mess. The wrap bread was not fresh; it was tough and chewy. I prefer my wraps fresh with care taken in putting my order together.

Nora S.

Yelp
It would be great if the people working here would wear their masks. Not a single employee was wearing one.

Sammy T.

Yelp
When you're tired and you don't want to cook/had carbs all day, this is a tasty option. Personally I think anything with their falafel is pretty good- crunchy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. I got the falafel wrap and it was rich in flavors and not dry. I would've hoped it was hotter though, at least a warm pita bread would've been nice. The beef and lamb gyro rice bowl is $7.99, a good deal too! If you've never had it, it's kind of like a Mediterranean chipotle bowl. I remember walking by this place many times (like I.B hoagies) many times on Durant. Next time you do, change up your eating habits and try this instead of Asian Ghetto.

Jude K.

Yelp
I really like their Yalanji and their shawarma sandwich. I used to live in Jordan before moving to the Bay Area and their Shawarma sandwich is the closest thing I could imagine to Shawarma in Jordan. The servers are great and the place is very warm and joyful to be in.

Theresa V.

Yelp
Love their food for a quick healthy bite to eat or for a large catering order, they are easy to work with and everyone will be asking where is the food from. I actually think this is the best spot off Telegraph by the campus. Reasonably priced, super healthy and filling.

Ed W.

Yelp
I've been here several times before I started using this platform, so more than just the two checkins listed here :P I usually get their chicken schwarma plate or combo plate (lamb and beef gyro), and it's a fairly decent amount of food. In a single order, you get rice/fries (you get to choose), salad, pita bread, hummus, meat (whether that's chicken or lamb/beef gyro), and white sauce. The meat is always pretty flavorful, and the rice is decent, but I usually get fries. I have to commend them for their salad (even though, I'm not a big fan of it), because they do a lot more with their salad compared to other Mediterranean restaurants I've been to, and hence the salad is a lot more flavored. The pita bread is nothing really to write home about, but combined with other things (to make pita bread pockets of goodness), it gets a lot better. I've also gotten their chicken and mushroom plate recently (because I wanted to try something new), and to my surprise, I really liked it (in fact better than the usual order of chicken schwarma or combo plate). The chicken and mushroom plate comes with a half plate-full of rice, topped with loads of mushroom and chicken; then there's their salad, as well as pita bread. I think what I liked the most about this dish was the fact that the chicken and mushroom were really nicely flavored and the sauce seeped into the rice, which in turn enhanced the flavor of the rice. Definitely need to come back here for this dish again. TL;DR - Pretty decent Mediterranean food. Photo: - https://www.instagram.com/p/BihugaBh9kf/ (Chicken and mushroom plate) Addendum, I like their southside location better than their northside one
