"Art lovers and garden enthusiasts visiting the Cape Winelands should set aside an hour or two to tour the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden in Stellenbosch. Here, more than 60 of Lewis’s renowned works—from his human forms and shamanic figures to his monumental abstracted fragments and iconic great cats—dot 2.5 miles of walking paths, blending seamlessly with the landscape. If you can, tour the gardens in July and August, when the fynbos trees are in full bloom. Then stop by Lewis’s old studio, which now functions as an art gallery, before having coffee or tea in the small café. Visits to the sculpture garden are by appointment only and can be arranged via email. Guided tours are also available."

"This six-acre sculpture garden at the base of the Stellenbosch mountains showcases more than 60 pieces by Dylan Lewis, an iconic South African sculptor. It's not on the Stellenbosch wine trail, so it's tricky to locate, but once you get there it's well worth it. The carefully curated garden is blanketed with fynbos—a stark contrast to Lewis' bronze sculptures. Although the grounds feature some of his most iconic pieces, there's no one piece de resistance; rather, each sculpture stands on its own against a thoughtful, visually arresting backdrop." - Mary Holland

Absolutely breathtaking way to spend a morning or afternoon! We had popped into an art gallery in Stellenbosch with one of Dylan Lewis' sculptures, and the gallery steward mentioned his garden. What a wonderful, unexpectedly spectacular surprise. The gardens are stunning - Kirstenbosch equivalent in diversity and variety, gorgeous fynbos everywhere and pathways through the gardens, surrounded by the Paradyskloof mountains. And then, popping through the greenery, or standing tall on a grassy hill - the wonderful masterpieces of Dylan Lewis. Worth every cent. Small coffee shop with great coffee and a few little delectable treats. (no picnics allowed) The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly. They have wellington boots, sun and rain umbrellas also available in needed. I can't wait to be back Booking on the website is advised (we were lucky as it was a cold day, midweek) Probably a 2 hour outing. Parking at the entrance and then a golf buggy takes you to the gardens.

Absolutely astonishing. I was not ready to be this impressed, but the gardens are magnificent and the conversation between the sculptures and their environment is incredible. I can honestly say I have not understood Dylan Lewis’ sculpture until seeing them placed and considered and contrasted and blended with the landscape time this - truly amazing. Book ahead. You won’t be disappointed

Best to pre book, but if not busy they're happy to accommodate. From the car park you'll be transported in golf buggies to the exhibition centre. Entrance fee is R480 for 2 adults. Allow at least 2 hours to meander around and take it all in. The walk is mostly flat on well maintained pathways. There are toilets and sun brollies for guests. This place is heaven if you're into gardens and sculptures. A definite must visit when in the area.

This has been on our to-do list for a while. What can I say... it was incredible. We took our time and followed the path as we did not want to miss anything. Dylan Lewis is an exceptional sculptor. Displaying his work in a most beautiful garden brings out the best in each masterpiece. Not to be missed.

Wow, wow, wow. What an experience. We spent about an hour and a half walking and admiring the sculptures and the park in general. Unfortunately the park closed at that stage; we probably could have spent another half hour, excluding a visit to the coffee shop. I guess this will remain on our bucket list for a next time.

It was the most incredible experience ! It was the most breathtaking garden I have ever visited, not even mentioning the amazing sculptures placed strategically all over. At arrival we were told that the self-walk (without a tour guide) would take approximately 45min but as we really enjoyed taking in everything we saw, we took 2hours. Give yourself enough time to really enjoy the artist's journey as you walk around. It is a MUST to visit!

This is one of the most magnificent sculpture gardens you can possibly visit. Everything about this place just oozes talent and creative ability. It becomes very clear why Dylan Lewis is held in such high regard internationally. This is confirmed by the large number of international visitors in the garden on the day we visited. I heard that it was beautiful but I just didn't realise how beautiful till we visited.

To me it is not the artworks that are the main attraction, they are skillful crafts. But the garden is wonderful; with winding paths and ponds, like an English garden but with more beautiful plants. And the artworks do fit into the garden and add an additional dimension. Worth a visit.
