The 23 Best Restaurants In Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Dzo Viet Kitchen is a run-of-the-mill-looking spot that crowds tables as tightly as it packs its summer rolls. There’s a care to Dzo Viet’s Vietnamese cooking that sets it apart. Shaken beef is especially tender with caramelised wedges of onion and morning glory has a vibrant crunch. The menu spans beyond the usual suspects. The Full House sticky rice dish—with peppery Vietnamese sausage, braised pork hunks, a knuckle of ham, and a fried egg—is indulgently piggy and not for the faint-hearted." - jake missing, sinead cranna

Dzo! Viet Kitchen - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Dzo Viet Kitchen is sandwiched between a tool shop and a hair salon on a crowded part of Upper Street, but we have a feeling it will stand out for regular commuters around Highbury & Islington. It’s a run-of-the-mill-looking spot that crowds tables as tightly as it packs its summer rolls, and there’s a care to Dzo Viet’s cooking that sets it apart from other Vietnamese restaurants. Here, shaken beef is especially tender with caramelised wedges of onion and morning glory has a vibrant crunch. Paired with a spoonful of sticky rice and a frosty Saigon beer, a dreary Tuesday night can become immeasurably better. The menu spans beyond the usual suspects. The Full House—with peppery Vietnamese sausage, braised pork hunks, a knuckle of ham, and a fried egg—is indulgently piggy and not for the faint-hearted. Food Rundown Grilled Prawn Summer Rolls Pleasingly filled, with crunchy frisée lettuce, these summer rolls do the trick. The prawns could be bigger and we’re always in favour of a fistful of herbs, but they’re a nice start dipped in a fish sauce dressing. photo credit: Jake Missing Shaken Beef These hunks of beef are dangerous given how difficult it is to stop shovelling them. In a shiny sauce that mixes soy, oyster, and fish to umami-ish qualities, the beef bounces with tenderness and tears away into pink strands. The chunks of pepper and onion also retain a nice crunch. photo credit: Jake Missing Full House Sticky Rice Pork on pork on pork, with a side of egg and a ball of sticky rice, this dish shouldn’t be approached alone. It’s sweet and sticky, although the braised pork is a little too fatty for our liking. Get a vegetable on the side to cut through it and you’re in business." - Jake Missing

This restaurant is easily in my top three Vietnamese kitchens in London. The dishes are creative yet still stay true to authentic Vietnamese flavours. Instead of going for pho this time, I tried their crab, fish, and duck dishes—and every single one was exceptional. The staffs were also incredibly friendly, energetic, and attentive. They took great care of my table and made the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in London!

Had a lovely seabass, it had a rich delicious semi spicy/sweet sauce and the fish batter was light and crispy. The Vietnamese drip coffee was delicious and fish cakes, were also great. Really fast service, great value and delicious.

Safe to say this will be my new go to Vietnamese restaurant in London! We had the beef pho, braised fish pot, fish sauce chicken wings and iced coffee. All taste very flavourful and good value for the portion! They have an extensive menu so can't wait to come back to try out other items.

They have the best iced coffee, especially the Vietnamese coconut coffee which I’ve ever heard of or tried before. I ordered some sides and a main dish. Their spring rolls were hot, crispy, and tasty. The fish cakes were delicious. I tried skillet banh mi for the first time, the portions were massive and flavourful. However, my sister said that the main dish was too salty for her, I guess it depends on individual tastes. Overall we had good experience there. Prices are on higher side, but the portions and the service were good.

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at DZO! last night. From the moment we called ahead to ask if we could be seated a bit earlier, the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. When we arrived, the place was buzzing… packed, lively, and full of energy. Yet within just a few minutes of introducing ourselves, we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. The atmosphere was convivial and full of life; a private party downstairs added to the hum of laughter and conversation, and tables were laden with fragrant dishes flying out of the kitchen. You could tell immediately that the team knew their food, their culture, and their craft, the heart of real Vietnamese hospitality. The menu was extensive (and thankfully included Vietnamese translations), which was both helpful and fun to explore. We started with the caramelized betel leaf rolls (beautifully aromatic and absolutely bursting with flavor) followed by fresh spring rolls, clearly made in-house. The dipping sauces were bright, fresh, and layered with complexity. For mains, my partner had the Bún Bò Huế, a rich, spicy noodle soup with tender slices of beef, cha lụa (Vietnamese pork sausage), and a wonderfully warming broth (perfect for a chilly evening)! I went for the monkfish cheeks, preceded by their signature mango salad with roasted peanuts, prawns, fish sauce, and lime — the balance of sweet, sour, and heat was just spot on. Food came out quickly, the service remained calm and attentive throughout, and despite how busy it was, we never felt rushed. We were in and out within about 70 minutes; it was efficient but still relaxed. The only small downside: the chairs are quite hard and uncomfortable and the tables a little close together, meaning privacy is limited. But given the size of the space (and, let’s face it, Highbury/Islington rent!), it’s understandable. All in all, DZO! delivered a near-perfect experience (thanks Time Out London’s top 50 restos for steering me towards excellence yet again!): authentic flavours, generous hospitality, and a lively, joyful atmosphere. We’re already planning to come back. Next time, we’ll skip lunch so we can try even more of those small plates! Highly recommend :-)

Food was fresh. Had tofu/aubergine pot. Soft shell crab and crispy seabass. There was far too much dill in the seabass and its a very strong flavour. Suggest chef tone that amount down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved this place! The staff were incredibly kind and supportive — they made me feel so welcome, just like home. 💕 The food was authentically Vietnamese — rich, flavorful, and comforting in every bite. I could truly taste the warmth and soul of Vietnam in each dish, especially the phở — it reminded me of home even though I’m thousands of miles away. 🥹🍜 Thank you for creating such a beautiful corner of Vietnam here in London. I’ll definitely be back again and again! 🇻🇳✨
