"E. Pellicci is an old-school British-Italian caff that’s become the proverbial poster boy for fry-ups and a cosplay cockney experience in London. Here in Bethnal Green, fried bread, banter, and baked beans come as standard. The Pelliccis have owned the cafe for more than 100 years, and there are still unassuming regulars settling down with a cuppa and a paper at 8am. Come later in the morning and you’ll have to join a queue of visitors ready to wager a one-person eating context with themselves." - jake missing
"You can't find a place with more character and authenticity than E.Pellicci! This legendary Italian café is in the hands of the same family since 1900. Awesome lasagna and cannelloni are prepared by Mama Maria since 1961. You don't go there only for the food, but also for the unique convivial atmosphere full of liveliness. Even if the place is busy, you will always be served with a smile and the staff always take time to talk to their customer. To me, it feels like a shot of happiness every time! Little anecdote: the famous gangsters, the Kray brothers used to go every day. Some scenes from the movie "Legend" with Tom Hardy have been shot in the restaurant." - Mélanie Hubert-Crozet
"A daytime Italian cafe in Bethnal Green that’s been open since 1900, E. Pellicci runs on strong cuppas, winking innuendos, and various formats of fried bread. It’s a high-energy caff where you can indulge in the biggest (and possibly best) fry-up of your life circa 8am or a truly monstrous pool of lasagne come afternoon. It’s big portions with a side of personality, and one of our favourite spots for a good old-fashioned escalope sandwich." - jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"An Italian-British caff masquerading as a Cockney Carry On film set, E. Pellicci is most famous for being the Kray twins’ local hangout. These days though, it’s a mix of tourists and loyal regulars ordering fry-ups at this iconic Bethnal Green spot. If you like your fry-up on the generous side, with bacon that’s crisp, blistered sausages, and beans that require a hash brown dam otherwise they’ll drown the plate, you’ll love this." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, sinead cranna
"Old-school is an adjective. A descriptor of something that tends to be more an attitude than anything. But E. Pellicci isn’t just old-school in the Ray Winstone way. It’s also just plain old. The Italian caff in Bethnal Green—first run by the Pelliccis, and then Nevio Snr, and now Nevio’s son—is that rare and happy mix between tourist attraction and local artefact. Fry-ups are essential but the Italian favourites—a puddle of marinara and béchamel-covered lasagne, a shovel of tiramisu, escalope-filled ciabatta sandwiches—are also great." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
