Where To Eat and Drink in the Mountains This Ski Season - Eater Denver

"This classic 1950s-style greasy spoon is a Vail Valley favorite, with menu items like a breakfast burrito smothered in green chili, biscuits and sausage gravy, and BLTs. Filled with memorabilia like vintage advertising, formica tables, and checkerboard flooring, this classic American joint has been around for almost 20 years." - Rebecca Treon

Eagle Diner – A Perfect Step Back into the ’50s, with One of the Best Burgers in America During a trip through Colorado, a group of nine of us stopped at Eagle Diner — and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we’ve had. The atmosphere is pure retro charm: classic black-and-white checkered floors, colorful leather seating, pink tables, cozy booths, and walls adorned with vintage artwork. Every detail feels authentic and incredibly well-maintained. The place was spotless — from the dining area to the restrooms, which were impeccably clean right from opening time. The staff was outstanding. Our server was genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming, with a smile throughout. Service was fast, smooth, and without a single flaw. And then there’s the food. I ordered the “Monster Burger”: double patty, double cheese — a true flavor bomb, perfectly cooked and satisfying. I paired it with a fresh, delicious lemonade that was constantly refilled before I even noticed it was getting low. In short, Eagle Diner isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a time machine, a haven for classic comfort food, and home to one of the best burgers I’ve had anywhere in the U.S.

Stopped in for a quick bite on the way to Nevada. The service was not only exceptional but, also hilarious. The food was so delicious. The interior was classic diner. Maddie was our waitress and she was phenomenal

A diner open for 25 years. Not much in the area to choose from but they have a larger menu of options. Breakfast done by noon so be prepared to order something else. The service took a while to come to my table when she did it was lackluster with her options and is it was all good. This is a 50s diner feel.

Google
Excellent service from Maddie every time we have eaten here. She is funny, attentive, and great at what she does. We come from Leadville to get groceries and I can’t speak highly enough about how wonderful the staff is. The food is delicious and we LOVE the curly fries. We’ve tried the burgers and sandwiches and love everything we have had. One day we will make it early enough for breakfast. It’s really nice to have wonderful service, delicious food, and a clean environment all in the same place. We will be back again and again! Thanks Eagle Diner staff!

Google
I ordered a salad and it was fresh and delicious. The customer service is very good. I was greeted soon as I walked in. Food was quick. Highly recommended, I will definitely be back.

Great place for breakfast or lunch. Good service and good portions. The local firemen eat here if that tells you anything.

Yelp
Great diner! Super busy, so don't be surprised if you have a wait a few minutes. The staff work their tails off! Consistently on their feet and working hard. Wish I went sweet and not savory.

Yelp
We love this place in the cool town of eagle. Killer vibes. Great service. The food is awesome. And comes out quickly also. The grilled chicken Caesar salad and the ham and cheese add turkey jalapeños and tomatoes on sourdough js soooo yummy. Our fave stop when going through the pass!!

Tom H.

Yelp
Yum yum the corned beef hash may be the best I've ever had! So tender and seasoned just right. Can't go wrong. The cinnamon roll was gooey and tasty!

Andrea R.

Yelp
Love a classic little diner. The breakfast burrito was amazing! Maddy was our waitress and is a sweetheart. Everyone was very friendly

Yelp
While on a Family road trip we stopped at the Eagle Dinner after reading such good reviews and we weren't disappointed. Excellent service we were quickly seated and the waitress was very friendly. If you're in the area stop in

Yelp
Just an average breastfast. Waitress was awesome. Not worth 22.00 for one person. Toaster must be broken only one side was toasted.
google avatar

Yelp
Good diner food. Cool retro diner atmosphere. Can be a bit noisy when busy since it's a relatively small space. Recommend.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Good food, great service friendly staff Old cafe feel. Within walking distance from hotel

Jeff E.

Yelp
Double check your takeout orders. Too many mistakes too often. Simple things are overlooked or wrong. It's frustrating because it's just not that difficult to get things right.

Yelp
April is a pro. Greeted us with silverware and taking our drink order. Immediately brings us drinks and takes our order. In 5 minutes, order salads arrive, fresh, crisp, and cold. 8 minutes later, a monster burger and a grilled turkey on marble rye. It's the best chow ever!
google avatar

Dominik S.

Yelp
Me and my family love the breakfast here! The staff is friendly and the bacon is crispy. I highly recommend the omelettes!

Yelp
Came here during the spring as a pit stop coming back to Denver. They have lots and lots of food to choose from, and I regret not getting the Reuben that my fiance got (even our waitress kept telling us how delicious it is!) I ended up getting a quesadilla. It wasn't horrible, but it was a little bland, that I felt like I was eating a very healthy version of a quesadilla. I was sour about it back then, but looking back it was probably a good thing for my own health lol The service was great. Our waitress was so sweet and funny, I definitely felt welcomed here.

Yelp
So The good part of this place is its really good food i love coming to eagle diner all the time, but today, We came in and we were refused service right off of the bat walking in the door, got 86'd because apparently we had called a couple weeks ago and placed an order and forgot to pick it up, we get busy with work and our lifes, we order here all the time but the one time we forgot to pick up the food, we got treated very very poorly by the staff and management and publicly humiliated by the manager on duty, this happened last Sunday, and we spend a-lot of money here, i even tip 20$ every time and the scenery is beautiful, its quiet. And its also quite sad to be publicly humiliated. This place has lost a very valuable customer and my family wont be coming here any more thanks to the manager on duty and the staff treating us with poor customer service, isnt this sueable?

Justin L.

Yelp
Food is good but when you place an order they never complete your order plus is expensive for paying extra in 2 services and not getting my food complete, not buying anymore here, not recommended for placing orders

Yelp
Great place to stop and have some breakfast or lunch when you're on a long drive. It's so unique a classic 50's style diner from the building itself to the odd decor and bright colors it's like going back in time. We had just drove from San Diego and we were headed down to Denver stuck in traffic and hungry when we stopped. The omelette was cooked perfect and the burrito as well. Everything was so good we ate it all. The service was great and we were back on our road trip in no time.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Came in when they were slammed on Memorial Day. Was by myself so I took a bar seat. Ordered the Classic with sweets and opted for blueberry pancakes of which you could taste the freshness in the blueberries. Will definitely be returning this is one of my favorites in the whole state now. Prices are decent to.

Yelp
Friendly service ice, fun vibe and good food! We went here twice on a visit to Eagle with some family. The food was good and very reasonably priced. The vegetarian omelette was flavorful and I appreciated the wide variety of veggies, including broccoli. We got the bloody Mary's and they are huge for $7!
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
The place was cute inside and the waitstaff was nice. It took a really long time to get our meal. However, I get that restaurants are understaffed so I let it slide! Now on to why I gave this 2 stars: When the waitress brought over our food I saw that she was touching the lettuce from the burger which wasn't a good start. The burger we ordered was extremely overcooked and dry. Also, the fries were old and greasy. My caesar salad was also really disappointing. It didn't have much dressing, cheese, or flavor and they also kept the root section of the romaine in it (the end part that you should throw out.) Lastly, I found an avocado chunk in my salad that must've fallen in. Not a surprise I was looking forward to! Sadly, I just can't find many positive things to say about the food.

Yelp
The friendliest staff and the yummiest breakfast in town! I'm a regular here so I know the food well! Today I went with the classic with sweets! French toast, bacon, eggs, biscuit, bacon again cause BACON!!! Also got a side of jalapeño white sauce to take home cause you can literally put it on anything and it's so good!

Susan T.

Yelp
Great place for a local-friendly bite! Very retro diner, reminded us of the tabletops of our childhoods. Good prices, generous portions, tasty diner food. Shout out to April, our server.

Margaret T.

Yelp
Fun and funky place for brunch. Such a breath of fresh air: home cooked meal with reasonable prices and simple atmosphere.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Great food and service! Thank you Maddie for exceptional service you provided us this morning! Your smile is contagious!

Yelp
we've been talking about making it to the eagle diner for literally months and let me tell you; it did not disappoint! milkshakes? 10/10. onion rings? 10/10. bouncy balls? 9/10. vibes? off the chart. don't mistake this little diner for a side attraction! she's the main event!!

Janna S.

Yelp
Waitress wasn't very friendly when I asked for a menu. Really sad that in November of 2022, that this otherwise OK diner can't bother to offer an actual menu. Is a piece paper too expensive? Do they want us to think that holding their menu would be dangerous, but eating their food would be safe. Kind of ruins the atmosphere when I have to scroll through my phone rather than glance at an actual menu. Is a menu really too much to ask for in a diner? Other restaurants in this town don't seem to think so.

Yelp
SO GOOD! We stopped by on our way from Denver to Moab and this was exactly what we wanted. It really has that old time classic American diner feel and the food is AMAZING. I ordered the classic breakfast- best biscuits I've had since moving to CO a year ago. Staff is kind and quick service highly recommend
google avatar

Kurt D.

Yelp
Fifties casual diner atmosphere. Made us some hot off the griddle veggie hash browns with just a touch of oil. Fast and friendly service. Definitely return here.
google avatar

Ivy L.

Yelp
Very cute little diner that serves standard breakfast fares. My bf absolutely loves breakfast and wants it every meal of the day. Since we were staying in Eagle, it was a quick place to stop before having to drive back to Denver to catch our flight. The interior was all 70s diner and I loved the ambiance - the staff was super friendly as well. We ordered the breakfast platter and the food was as you would expect - nothing amazing but nothing horrible either. Standard American breakfast fare with no gimmicks! Eggs cooked right, bacon was crispy and hash browns crisp and cooked in butter! The French toast was ok and so was the biscuit. Alright place to stop if you want a quick breakfast!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Quick place to grab a bite if you're looking for traditional diner food. Cute retro vibe inside and the women are fast and friendly. Give this place a shot if you're looking for grab some breakfast or a burger and shake!

Jenn S.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way to Denver from SLC. I had the spinach omelette with hash browns and biscuit and my friend has the southwestern omelette. I was ecstatic over my omelette. The right amount of spinach with sautéed onions and diced tomatoes with bacon in the omelette. The combination was a perfect savory blend of you like your eggs to have that mix of savory and bright (acid from tomatoes) and enough Swiss cheese to have to use your knife. Just a perfect diner omelette! My friend liked his omelette but didn't rave. Maybe I just haven't had a good omelette in a while. The shredded hash browns had a wonderful crispy brown crunch on them that, again, a lot of diners miss the mark on. Not here. My only complaint would be the biscuit which was not quite what this southern gal was expecting. More like a biscuit roll than a flaky or crumbly delicacy. Highly recommend if you want to check out some ferric fifties decor and have a great diner experience.

Andy W.

Yelp
Cruising along I-70 and hoping to find a place for a good breakfast, boy did we hit it right. Great diner atmosphere, super clean, friendly, helpful staff, and as good a breakfast as I have had anywhere with reasonable prices. Hearty portions to boot. I'd bet anything on their menu would be a winner.
google avatar

Yelp
I can't believe I slept on this place for so long because it's basically perfect. If I could give it ten stars I would. The staff is so kind and helpful, the food is delicious and the vibe is everything you would want in a diner. I've never had a bad meal here and will be coming back for years to come! They also have the best ice in their drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
This place for me is a roller coaster of emotions. It's a diner. I get it. But man, I have been to some awesome diners. Maybe one out of 9 times that you go here do you feel happy about not staying home and cooking breakfast. The servers are grumpy and disconnected. On Auto Pilot...the coffee is good and strong---never order a soft scramble on an egg because only one temperature is ever produced. The Huevos Rancheros never disappoints. The mountains are challenged with food trucks and their deliveries so you honestly never know what kind of potato you will get. I don't know. It's a place for locals. It will always be there. Just lower your standards a bit.
google avatar

Loreal W.

Yelp
Best breakfast in town! The huevos rancheros is the way to go. Fun atmosphere and the waitresses are always really nice... singing and happy. We like this place so much, we often bring company here for a delicious outing.

Gerry L.

Yelp
Went to this diner because it was across the street from our hotel and it had good reviews. We made a great decision, our breakfast was great. I'm a simple man and I usually order a classic 2 or 3 egg breakfast. But today I ordered the Huevos Rancheros, with beans and hash browns. The best Huevos Rancheros I ever had. The pork green chile sauce is homemade and tasted like it. This was no ordinary Huevos Rancheros, it was really good. The hash browns were the way I like, big shreds of potatoes. My wife (Mexican heritage) ordered the Chile Relleno breakfast. When the waitress says "good choice" and it's her favorite, it better be good. It was Great! The BEST Chile Relleno she ever had. I love Chile Relleno and I've had my share in my life time, and that was the best Chile Relleno I've ever had. She got the homemade pork green Chile on top. The refried beans were excellent and homemade. Who would of thought we would get the best Mexican breakfast at a little diner in Eagle Colorado.

Yelp
This was a busy place! There were a lot of locals having breakfast. Food was good and service was excellent!

Jay S.

Yelp
Great comfort food, great service, great value. Portions are huge so you have been warned. Our group had the creeps, pancakes, club sandwich, and an omelette. Everything was great except the salsa which I would avoid but maybe I am biased by being from Texas. I would highly recommend the Eagle Diner.

N. Celeste L.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast. Fast service, easy location off the interstate. Would definitely visit again.
google avatar

This is an excellent diner. Whenever I'm passing thru the area I ALWAYS STOP IN to eat. EVERYTHING here on the menu is excellent . Ive yet to have bad service or food. Here ALL of the servers are friendly & helpful. Even my server today Misty. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
My family loves breakfast. This place was spot on. When you order the hash browns and bacon extra crispy....they deliver. Fabulous! The meat lover's omelette was full of bacon and cheese. Full size portions...definitely worth stopping by for a meal.

Boz B.

Yelp
Classic diner, east coast style. Fast service, friendly place, easy to get to. Really clean and extensive menu. servers are like the staff at Trader Joes, fun helpful and attentive.

Yelp
We are on the road traveling for the past 10 days stopped an eagle state at a hotel across the street from the Eagle Diner if you're ever in this area you must have either lunch or dinner here we had dinner the service was impeccable the food was fantastic too much as normal but the best thing we had at the end of the meal was the banana split it's a 50 Style Diner decorated in the 1950s Style and the soda fountain is done the correct way since I am from the 50s have a great one
google avatar

Samantha P.

Yelp
PERFECT DINER BREAKFAST! It's like taking a step back in time to the days of our grandparents when diners were diners... in ALL the right ways. GREAT LOCATION off the Interstate with beautiful grassy area outside too. The breakfast food was actually perfect, with one small exception. Staff is friendly and attentive especially in the early morning which is when we visited. First as soon as we walked in the door, my husband said "it smells like breakfast" Exactly! Eggs were all perfectly cooked, our little twins and my hubby got scrambled and the girls loved them so much they asked for seconds.. I got mine over easy and again, perfectly done. Sausage links, bacon and English muffin all perfectly done... cooked through with a touch of crispy edge. Minor exception to what I would call "diner perfection" was the pancakes. Our girls didn't like them and they always love pancakes. At home we use an organic brand of mix that doesn't bleach the flour. For some reason as I cut their pancakes, it's like I could smell the bleach but I didn't say anything because I wanted the girls to eat them. Unfortunately they were excited and took their first bite quickly and then refused to eat the rest. I then tasted them and could taste the bleachy taste, so my only suggestion would be to maybe get a different pancake mix or flour brand if they make them from scratch. Everything else was SO great here I can't even take a star from them for the pancakes.. next time we're passing through we look forward to stopping again :)
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Great spot to stop at if passing through eagle. Great breakfast and diner food! Also the people that work there are great and give great service!

Karen U.

Yelp
Stopped here in March and enjoyed a delicious scrambled egg breakfast with veggie sausage. Great service! Stopped again in June and enjoyed a veggie burger with grilled onions for lunch. Good food and great service again. We planned our route to be here for meal time and weren't disappointed.

Yelp
One of the best restaurant in the world , i love their Quesadilla and i highly recommend it The staff are very friendly and the restaurant is very clean and lovely

Michael S.

Yelp
Great waitresses, Horrible chef, cant even leave the hash browns long enough on the griddle to crisp them up, Bacon was cold, etc, I think the chef deeds to go back to cooking school.
