Today we went to Earls Kitchen for Easter Brunch. Our reservation was for 2:30 PM and we were on time. Just for reference we had just been there two Sundays ago and it was perfect. Today, not so much. Our water, who never gave us his name came by about 15 minutes after we were seated and took our drink order and brunch order. We were then told that we would not get the brunch pricing because it was after 3PM and he pretty much disappeared for the next 45 minutes. When we got our order of eggs, Benedict and eggs over medium they were cold, The hollandaise sauce was cold, the potatoes were cold. What was an excellent brunch two weeks ago was a very bad brunch today. Tables came, tables went, and we had no food. Luckily, we have eaten at Earls Kitchen quite a few times before so we knew this was not the standard food for the restaurant and finally when a manager came by, we told her about the situation, and our brunch, which was totally inedible was comped for us, but it was a significant Easter disappointment. This young waiter just didn't care, and in fact, blamed the quality of our food on the kitchen, which I know was not the case having worked in college had several fine dining restaurants and also making quite a bit of money and tips for providing good service.
I'm sure we will be back to Earl's for lunch or dinner but I don't know if I'll ever come back for brunch again. There is quite frankly, nothing worse than cold eggs, cold hollandaise sauce and cold fried potatoes. They are a much better restaurant than this, but a waiter like this can destroy a good restaurants reputation. This was not the kitchen's fault as our waiter claimed, this was the fault of the wait staff.
