15 Restaurants Worth the Drive to Portsmouth, New Hampshire

"Head down a small alley to find this cheery brewery’s tasting room, which serves unusual beer styles with a focus on gruit, the name for brews that feature a bevy of botanicals in place of hops. The food menu is equally eclectic, with an impressive pub fare array of 17 different hot dogs and a handful of burgers and sandwiches." - Celina Colby, Kate McCarty

A Delicious Guide To the History and Science of Food

"Humans have been drinking beer for at least 8,000 years—and, for almost all that time, beer looked nothing like the industrial lager or hop-heavy craft brews popular now. Though today’s brewers consider hops a crucial ingredient in beer, it wasn’t until medieval Europe that the bitter plant became a popular addition. Gruit ales were flavored with a mix of herbs, the old-fashioned way to bitter a brew before hops surpassed it between the 11th and 16th centuries.  Until then, hops were just “one of the bazillion things you could put in a beer,” brewer Butch Heilshorn told Gastropod. Heilshorn is one of the few brewers in America experimenting with “gruits,” as hop-free beers are called.  For this episode, Gastropod visited Earth Eagle Brewings, the Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based brewery Heilshorn co-founded in 2012, to learn how the future of beer might lie in its long-forgotten past." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
Earth Eagle Brewings in Portsmouth, NH for a fun Tuesday afternoon visit. This is my second time here, my first being in May of 2022. This place is fun because they're not afraid to experiment with & merge different styles together. Definitely happy that these guys were open on a Tuesday, a lot of places aren't, but the NH seacoast seems to be all in on being open seven days a week or close to it. The last time I was here I had six different tasters to try as much as I could, but this time I grabbed a few full pours that I hadn't had. The three pints I got were the SUPER KITTY HOPPY LAGER, ROGGEN THE NIGHT Roggenbier & the BLUE BEAR BLUEBERRY PALE ALE. They all ranged in quality, but the SUPER KITTY HOPPY LAGER & the ROGGEN THE NIGHT were both the winners. The roggenbier is a style I'm happy comes around more during the fall season, I wish all these Oktoberfest beers (minus pumpkin) were available alllll year long, but then this time of year wouldn't be as fun. 🍻🤦‍♂️🍁 I sat inside at the bar this time around, but previously I had sat outside in the patio area, there is tables & hightop options as well inside. Definitely a seacoast aesthetic inside which doesn't get old for me since the whole surrounding region reminds me of staying in Rye, NH on the beach in my parents time share a few weeks every summer until I was 18 or so. My beertender Ashley was great & super friendly. I had eaten earlier, but she still almost made me get something else naming off the food options in front of me, the sign of a good server. Fun experience, glad they were open Monday's for sure! 🍻🍻🔥☘🍁 #craftbeer #NewHampshire #newengland #supportlocal #nhseacoast #untappd #newhampshireeats #BeerGoals #beerstagram

Serving up some amazing food and beer here. Shoutout to Pat for some excellent service on a busy Friday night. Beers were great, tried 6 between our table and lagers to stouts were all fantastic. Highlights on the Dirty Bird and Hermione, but extra stars to Piscataqua for easy drinking and then....Murica ESB, holy smokes. Short rib grilled cheese had incredible depth of flavor, while the Granny Smith Panini was the perfect level of savory/sweet. The Scooby-Doo was impressive, and topped with all the best things you could think of.

Google
We’re spending a night in Portsmouth on the way to Maine. We wanted to have a beer before dinner and wanted a place with some local atmosphere. We found this great brewery right in town. It’s pretty easy to get to and there’s both street parking as well as a parking garage close by. We had a hot pretzel and beer. The beer was good and had a nice flavor. We didn’t have dinner here but other people who were there did and it all looked good. They have a good selection of beer but also have wine and alcohol. The bartenders were terrific. There’s some bar seating and some tables. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor area. Definitely recommend it you want a beer.

My husband and I went here last night for the first time. The space was cozy but very inviting. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to make suggestions or clarify any of our questions. Definitely had a "local hangout" kind of vibe as many people inside did know one another. We really liked the fact that they had flights that didn't just have to be ordered as fours. The entire menu, except for some of the seacoast week flavors, was on draft. We ended up trying 9 of the 12 offerings. There was something for every kind of beer drinker but it was also very seasonally heavy with stout options. We were able to sit there and sip for a couple hours while breaking out some cards and relaxing. This will definitely be a stop on our next trip here.

Google
My favorite place in town. It took a while to get a seat cause it was so busy, but it was worth it. The bar staff were really friendly and helpful, and knew their beer knowledge. I got a flight of their non-IPAs, and they were all delicious, and very different then your standard beer. It's like drinking some of the Dogfish Head experiments. Ghost Ship and Hibitchkiss, I don't think I'll ever have anything as unique again, and they were unique in a good way. The food was delicious as well, with a bowl of hearty chili crusted in cheese to warm me up on this winter day. The What the Duck sandwich, oh man, duck pastrami is sooo tender and flavorful, it's a must try. I really enjoyed my lunch here!

Google
Nice little spot with a a great selection of beers. And they welcome dogs on their terrasse! They gladly offer a bowl of water to our 4 legged companion. We were unfortunately too late for the food, but their NE Gangsta IPA was awesome! 5 star for perfect service.

Google
Do not miss in Portsmouth! Ashley took such great care of us, bringing great energy to a chill afternoon. Beers are inventive and delicious! Hot dogs are creative and tasty. Excellent way to enjoy brews with good company. Fav spot!

Google
Such a sweet experience! Everyone was so friendly and the space was great to chill with our dogs. The hot gods were delicious and the drinks were a great size. Also… the jello shots!!!

Yelp
Beers are great and this longstanding location will unfortunately close in downtown Portsmouth. Food was great, had the burger that is like the Big Mac and was great. The city of Portsmouth needs to correct things and stop driving businesses like this out of town with high rents!!

Yelp
There is no where else I could have a fine glizzy off their expansive hot dog menu, while indulging in some spoken word. There also no where else I've seen in the area with such a glorious hot dog menu. A+ for ambience and A+ for the girth.

Yelp
Honestly confused by the high average for this brewery. Maybe I'm spoiled my local breweries in CT and MA but this place was nothing special. Not horrible but after trying 4 beers none of them stood out or made me want to bring something home. The pretzel was fine but overpriced for the size and quality. Also, when we arrived the front entrance and bar area looked deserted - all the chairs were up on the tables and bar top. We walked around the corner outside and saw a small seating area. A little confusing, we weren't sure where to go or what to do. Turns out you just seat yourself and they'll come out to you from the other bar area in back. Service was fine but the long back and forth meant longer than expected wait times just for a beer. Would I go back? Nah, but if you're walking by maybe you'll find a pint you enjoy.

Yelp
Found this little brewery walking around downtown Portsmouth on a rainy day. We had popped into several boutiques to kill time and stay dry, so it was nice to stumble upon a nice watering hole to change things up! My boyfriend and I both got a flight and between the two of us we tried most of the beer on tap. Reasonably priced (I think $12 for 4 beer samples). They had a little of everything and all had a good flavor, there wasn't one that we didn't like. My boyfriend's favorite was the New England Gangsta (IPA) and mine was a sour... I'm the worst and forgot the name but it was a very mild and enjoyable sour that didn't leave you smacking your lips. We didn't try the food, but it all looked good from what was coming out around us. They have a "dog" side of the menu and a "cow" side... I feel like I'd be team hot "dog" if I did get food as those were best looking of all the food coming out! It was a cozy little place with some bar, table and cozy couch/chair seating. Small and intimate. The lady working was super nice and friendly, and checked on us enough but not to the point of annoyance. Loved the service and atmosphere a lot. If I was a local I would definitely frequent this watering hole! So if you are local, not sure what you're doing still reading this review... get your butt off the couch and go quench your thirst here!

Yelp
Review is for beer only. We stopped in this cute place to sit in their cozy beer garden on a nice sunny day and enjoy a beer. Service was great, and the beer was tasty. I liked being able to get a flight of 4, 4 oz beers to taste. Worth a stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
Misleading signage. Went in for the 2-1 hot dogs at 1:00. Waitress says starts at 3:00. I say sign didn't say that, she says that's the way it is. A responsible business would do 2 things: honor the sign then correct it. They only did the latter so lost my beer business. Silly management.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! This was perhaps the best hot dog I've ever had, burger was also verrrry tasty! This is a really cozy spot with a lot of room for functions or for an intimate dinner or a fun night out with friends. Tucked away on the hill you'd miss it if you weren't looking. Staff was nice too!! I highly recommend the Toto hotdog. Yum!! Nice tap list too.

Yelp
Great spot for a burger and beer flight! I absolutely loved the Brethren Code (white coconut stout). It was light, unique, and not overly sweet. Burger was good and the service was friendly. Only con is trying to find parking but that seemed true for the entire area of downtown Portsmouth (it's a cute town; lots of visitors)!

David G.

Yelp
Ok, I'm going to pass on this place. My wife and I stopped by for the first time, today. Immediately was confused by the "empty" space which was made more confusing by the dim lighting. Then, saw the small sign that said come downstairs, we're open. So, we navigated that bit of confusion and went downstairs. Where, we sat ourselves down at a table across from the bar and the bartender. After getting no service, I then went up to the bartender and asked for menus. Went back and sat down and picked out our food choices. But again, no one bothered to come over. Now mind you, there were less than 3 other, small tables with customers. And, quite honestly, the bartender seemed way too frazzled and bedraggled to handle anything more than the hand-full of customers. We seemed to be a burden to her. So, we left. Sorry guys but there's way too many other good choices in Portsmouth to go to rather than take time and effort to try supporting this place.
google avatar

Matthew J.

Yelp
We sat underneath their outdoor shed and enjoyed beers and dogs. Servers were in the weeds but super friendly. Dog friendly outdoor but unfortunately also very kid friendly.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
This is an unapologetic hipster micro brewery with really well done old-style lagers and ales. They brew a couple of NE IPA's to appease the masses. The burgers and franks are on point as well. Cozy pub atmosphere inside and tables with umbrellas outside.
google avatar

Yelp
Its a small local brewery. one of only a few in Portsmouth. It hasnt changed much over the years. its a somewhat rundown garage space... but in a good way? a bit dark, a bit dirty... Unfortunately, the beer has not improved over the years. Its borderline average. its frustrating. i've tried year over year and its the same ole' product. most of the beer was fairly flat within 2 minutes of pouring . I think a good example can be had from their website.. which barely talks about beer... certainly no "on Tap" list or references of past beer. maybe they try to make too many styles instead of being great at one or 2? I mean no disrespect. its a great place to stop by for a quick $8 beer. Price are a mystery, as i dont remember seeing them posted anywhere. but if you're looking for quality.. you'll have to walk a couple blocks to the known beer bar.

Yelp
Best hotdogs in the northeast. Massive variety of specialty topped dogs, ranging from classic to funky. I had one with beets and goat cheese that literally changed my entire thoughts on hotdogs as a meal. Will be back to try more, and all said and done they are moderately priced. The beer? Meh. Decent selection and taste , just nothing to write home about. Thanks to the craft beer explosion I really need a brewery to do something special to stand out from the crowd. Don't get me wrong, the beer is good, and perfect for washing down a hot dog, but I'd be coming back for the hotdogs, not the brews.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
It you are craving a hot dog then this is your spot! They had lots of unusual but good combos to choose from. My favorite was our appetizer- Goldfish. A child hood favorite and it's still a tasty snack. We sat outside which was a nice area tucked away in the parking lot. Our server was nice and attentive. This was a nice spot. The food definitely hit the spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Great stop on a rainy afternoon. Loved the brews and the hotdogs. A must stop if you're roaming around looking for a cool place with nice people!
google avatar

VietCitron T.

Yelp
Love the hot dog, shaved steak w/ house beer cheese sandwich. Pretzel was tasty but had a bit too much salt. Cider was tasty. Pretty chill and great vibe. We'll be back next time we're in town. We inhaled the food before the photo.
google avatar

Stacy W.

Yelp
Saw the ranking and decided to give it a try. Outside was present and gear choice of tunes. Mostly hotdogs and burgers on the menu, but there are so many to choose from. Kiddo was delighted with the plain hot dog and we had the Winnie the Moo. Service was great. Overall, amazing!
google avatar

Mary B.

Yelp
Delightful whole in the wall brewery. Clean, friendly bar keeper, yummy pastrami sandwich with home made slaw. New England Gangsta is lovely!

Tim M.

Yelp
Great Rueben sandwich and friendly staff. Several drink specials although we didn't try any for lunch.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
Service and cosy vibe was great. While the menu was limited and quite expensive, the burger I had (with extra goat cheese) was fantastic. We really enjoyed their beer and would absolutely come back here for another.

Jen D.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Unique ways to jazz up burgers and hotdogs. The drinks were great. Fun and friendly staff. Amazing playlist! Definitely worth a visit.

Patrick H.

Yelp
Good beer, good pretzels, great service. Overall a fine spot for a beer, but nothing special.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
The service here was too notch! Such a cool place with the nicest people! They have every type of hotdog or burger topping combo you could ever think of! I went a little crazy and tried a hot dog with beet and goat cheese on it and let me tell you it was in the top 3 bed hot dogs I've ever eaten! They also had some really cool beers! Definitely recommend this place! They even had a nice outdoor patio area!
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
Fun spot off the beaten path a bit, but very close to the main strip. Delicious creative hot dogs and tasty beer! Absolutely recommend
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
Been here a couple times, small venue, might have to wait depending on the time. Beer definitely has some taste, the coconut stout was definitely one to try! Not your average hotdogs/hamburgers either! Just confused in the price as 6 beers were bought and 3 hot dogs and yet our bill came out to $120? Beers must've been at least $10!

Johnny O.

Yelp
I stopped by with my 6 year old daughter on 4/17/24 in the afternoon to have a quick bite. I didn't get the name of the bartender, but she was so pleasant and sweet to my daughter. My daughter loves hot dogs, so she had a plain dog with ketchup and I decided to go with the "Cujo." It's SPICY! I was warned by a fellow patron and now I'm warning you! (LOL) I had to drive back to Brooklyn, NY, so I couldn't stay long but will definitely stop by again to try different hot dogs and, of course, their beer. Love the energy......I get the impression there's a lot more pretentiousness in other establishments in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Earth Eagle is the first brewery/gastropub I've visited since arriving in this area, and they've set the bar really high for subsequent places! The staffers here were very well informed, helpful, and welcoming; they actively encouraged us to sample whatever brews caught our fancies. While I must confess that I'm not a beer expert of any kind, I was really impressed by the sheer variety and depth of choices available. Fortunately for me, my friend was driving the night of our first visit, so I got to try quite a number of different beers. To recollect a few, I very much enjoyed the Samantha-a sour, the Indian Summer was light and stimulating, the R&R Hefeweizen was very refreshing, and I ulitimately fell in love (at least for that evening) with the Engine Joe coffee porter. The only food I've tried here thus far was a jumbo-sized pretzel; it was hot, fresh, and very tasty! I saw quite a number of other's people's food orders leaving the kitchen and passing by our table; the smells and sights were such that I have no doubt about returning another night for some more beer AND some food :-) Tip: The venue is on the smallish side, but the decor is really attractive - highly recommended!!

Yelp
Earth Eagle is an awesome hole-in-the-wall brewery that serves a variety of different brews, as well as some food! I have been to Earth Eagle a few times, and it really is a cool, unique venue, especially in Portsmouth. It has garage doors, wooden interior features, and in the nicer weather, they have a beer garden to sip your beer in. It's a tiny establishment, however, it's grown a following as it typically is full and bustling all the time. Earth Eagle's beer is good. I haven't found a beer that I'm totally in love with, but there are some that I find to be good. However, what sets Earth Eagle apart is their service. Everyone on the staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the beer and is interested in hearing what you typically enjoy for beers to match you with something that you will like. On a current trip, one of my friends told the server that she likes sours. They had one sour on tap, so the server when to grab my friend a taste of their current sour on tap. When the server came back, she came back with a couple of options that follow a sour-esque flair, and we ended up tasting beer that we would have never got on our own, but that we really liked. I have never had food here, but looking through the menu, they have a variety of pub-like food, with a whole side of the menu being dedicated to various hot dogs. Overall, a really cool spot in the Portsmouth area. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Omg this place had an amazing vibe! Staff was wonderful. There was a wait to be seated but we were offered beverages while waiting. North country cider!!! Food was delicious. They were accommodating to me needing GF. They made my pulled pork sliders into a pulled pork bowl! It was delicious! My friend got a hot dog that he said the relish was out of this world! Even grabbed myself a t-shirt. Will be back!

Glenn B.

Yelp
4 stars on the Beer, as always... the food was once exceptional and now it's crap 20$ burger that was more like an 8$ burger I would never have ordered if I knew it was shit... stick to drinking beer in here... the red slaw was still ok
google avatar

Yelp
Visited this location while walking around Portsmouth last week. There was plenty of outdoor seating and we were greeted quickly. We love to try different beers so we ordered a flight to share along with a pretzel. The pours were a great size, easily shareable, and there were some great options. The pretzel was also large which was great to share. Would definitely visit again in the future.

Yelp
- the flights are full glasses - I was lit up after drinking one flight of 5 - I was more lit after I finished my wife flight of four - I like how you can choose the number of beers you want in your flight - gotta get em all - first come first serve - food looked good - friendly service - there were 8 beers and a guest cider to choose from

Nina G.

Yelp
So disappointed..... I used to love this place & recommended it to many people. I went there today with my husband, 2 kids & my niece. The waiter forgot to get my beer and put in our food order. He apologized but then ignored us for 45 more minutes. The food took a very long time even after he apologized for forgetting it. No one ever came back to say "just a couple more minutes or whatever". My kids were starving & my niece had to leave before she could eat. We almost left without the food but ended up taking it to go. Needless to say I won't go back there
google avatar

Yelp
LOVE this new favorite place! Great brews, cool, funky atmosphere and great, friendly staff. Very fun, I always stop by when I'm in town for work!

Yelp
So glad our good friend took us here. She had discovered this charming spot the night before. What a delightful teeny craft brewery in charming area of Portsmouth. It is in a transformed garage with spunky and funky atmosphere. We loved all 8 of the beers we sampled. Heck, they only had 9 on tap! Why didn't we try them all? Guess we have to go back. Most unique beer had curry flavor. A small sample was good but not sure I would want 8 ounces. IPAs and a stout were really superior beers. We had already had dinner but their food items including a Vermont raclette looked very fine indeed. Lots of cheese options. Cheese and beer: two of my favorite food groups. Down an alley and a little hard to find. Persevere and find it please. Super nice service. Made our night in Portsmouth A plus.

Kain M.

Yelp
Loved this place. Nothing fancy but great beer and burgers. We came after a hike and it was exactly what we were looking for.

Yelp
Great for beers and hanging out, okay for food. My friends and I were hungry after checking out lighthouses all morning, and this placed popped up. Google Maps brought us into a residential parking lot with a fence blocking us from getting to Earth Eagle, in case you run into that problem. The outside is cute- bright geometric patterns with burnt orange, sunny yellow, and pine green. The wooden bar was beautiful, and the space was cozy. To start, I got the Heart of Venus: strawberry kettle sour aged in pinot noir barrels. Tasted like a tart strawberry, with just a hint of wine adding some depth. I got the Winnie the Moo burger for my entree: bacon, goat cheese, jalapeños, hot honey. I wish the burger itself had more seasoning, I think a bit of salt would've highlighted the flavors more. I also think a jalapeño jam would've packed the sweet punch that they were probably aiming for- the hot honey wasn't spicy and was pretty thin, and I could barely taste the jalapeño. The bacon had a nice crunch, but couldn't used a bit more salt. I ended with the Nocturnal, an American stout that was was smooth, rich, and will sneak up on you with that 8% ABV. You've been warned! Service took a bit of time- not sure if they're understaffed, so you may need to be patient. Overall, I enjoyed the beers and the ambiance. Everything else was okay.

Lisa C.

Yelp
One of a kind beer offerings (GRUIT!), friendly service, cozy hole-in-the-wall. Worth the stop for a taste or two!
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
I had the Odie: Hotdog, goat cheese, jalapeños, caramelized onions, crushed kettle chips. This was really good and refreshing. The Toto dog was ok.
google avatar

Kara S.

Yelp
Cool Spot. It's small but don't let that deter you. My wife and I were in town for a recent October weekend. The plans were to drink beers, eat and enjoy the area. We stayed at the Ale House Inn and our Innkeeper recommended Earth Eagle highly. We only had beer (though the menu looked nummers) and it was still nice enough to sit out on in the patio. They had 12 beers on tap so we just got 2 flights of 6 beers and tried them all. Neither of us really like sour beers so those were sort of a waste but the others were very tasty. If we weren't spreading out our day drinking we likely could've parked our arses on that patio for the full afternoon. I would definitely return.
google avatar

Hal L.

Yelp
Nice spot to relax and enjoy a few brews. We sat outside and had a couple of freshly created brews. I had a New England gangster! Waitress was nice and had a great time!

Joan P.

Yelp
I left here very upset based on rude treatment from one member of the staff (I think the manager). We are very accustomed to having an early afternoon beer and food with our group of adult friends and two small children at similar breweries/gastropubs all over New England, but I've never been made to feel like I had to leave. The grumpy manager made a fuss that my kids left 2 toy trucks on the floor and a small corner of an area rug folded up and a member of our party overheard him talking negatively about my family to the bartender. We were in the upstairs area, there were no other parties present and intentionally were trying to stay out of the way because of our children, who are active but have been welcome at dozens of other similar establishments. The bartender was kind, accommodating, flexible, and right on top of everything with our large party. The food was delicious and we would have loved to stay longer to sample another beer, but took our business elsewhere. Do not recommend for families with children.

Yelp
While on the road in Portsmouth, NH - I found mention of Earth Eagle Brewings on Yelp - and was intrigued. So after dinner, I came in for an ale tasting. I sat at the bar - If I got their names correct - I met and interacted with Sheridan (bartender) and one of the brewers - Courtney. I had a couple of tasting flights - collectively I sampled the following (along with the rating I gave each Ale on Untappd): Indian Summer Gose (4.5% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Ancestral IPA (6.4% ABV) (4.25 stars on Untappd) Gangsta New England IPA (6.4% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Amarillo Dancer APA (5.6% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Wild Thing II: Sour Wild Gruit (4.3% ABV) (3.75 stars on Untappd) Britt Elkland (1.25 stars on Untappd) North Country Cider (5.0% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) I enjoyed all of the Ales, except for one (more on that in a bit). The cider is not made by them - but was still very good! The Dose was very refreshing - a great summer Ale! All three IPAs and the APA were outstanding! I'd drink a pint of any of those any time! Delicious! The Britt Elkland is a Meat Gruit. Apparently Elk is cooked down and pureed and added to the beer. Not sure who this appeals to - but at least I tried it! I also had an order of their Nachos! Huge platter and way to much food for me to eat! But very tasty! The two young ladies I interacted with were very personable and hilarious! I enjoyed my time visiting Earth Eagle Brewings the more because of their sense of humor! #EarthEagleBrewings

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon, enjoyed our flight- good selection of beers! We got the nachos with chili, very yummy but a huge pet peeve is when they don't layer the cheese! Once you got through the top layer of nachos the cheese was completely gone and you were just left with plain chips and chili! Would be willing to try again in hopes that they layer the cheese better!

Yelp
The beer is mediocre at best. The indoor space is fine. Service is slow. With many excellent breweries in the area, we will not waste our time here.

Yelp
Stopped in to try some local beers. My friend and I were very happy with our beer choices. Would definitely come back, if ever in the area again.

Yelp
The menu has hotdogs and hamburgers with interesting topping combinations. I tried the hotdog that featured potato chips and I was skeptical at first but it was actually quite tasty. Solid beer menu but the mixed drink menu was a little more limited. Mixed drinks aren't their focus so I can't hold it against them. Has a homey feeling inside with a nice location in downtown Portsmouth.

Yelp
Great branding, comfortable small bar area with fun decor and great music. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of any of the beers I tried, but I know how subjective that is. If you like a heavy malt backbone and earthy yeast flavors, you'd dig it. They had a red amber, rye, wheat, lager, ipa Dipa and schwatzbier styles on at the same time, but all had their characteristic musty, earthy malt that I don't love. Great staff and worthy stop, but wasn't for me. Give em a try and see for yourself.

Yelp
This baller indie brewery in downtown Portsmouth should be a mandatory stop on every hop-head's itinerary. While you can get great beer at almost any pub in the area, Earth Eagle is brewing with passion and seriousness of purpose without taking itself too seriously. The beers are great and even though we were boring with our IPAs, I would encourage a sampling. The food is simple but not to be missed. Duck Pastrami Reuben "Sammy" and Mac and Cheese Chili bowl FTW. Both great. Also, bonus points for being a dog-friendly joint. While the outside tables get busy on good weather days, you'll find a spot to squeeze in and maybe even make new friends. Folks here are friendly and unpretentious!
