The 20 Best Restaurants & Bars In Singapore 2024 - Singapore - The Infatuation

"Most people have heard of Serangoon Gardens because of the famous Chomp Chomp hawker centre, but the quaint neighborhood has plenty else to offer, with East Bistro at the top of the list. This casual Chinese spot is headed up by the former chef of Lei Garden, a local Chinese fine dining institution, but even still, East Bistro has been thriving as a bit of a neighborhood secret. Though based on the strength of their crispy char siew buns, “fried” rice in seafood soup, and of course, their sticky and tangy sweet and sour pork that’s served “Hong Kong style” over ice, it won’t be secret for long." - anthony eu

When it comes to authentic premium Cantonese cuisine, it is hard to beat the offerings at East Bistro. And yes, we would be remised not to first mention the price as it is undeniably an expensive meal. However as you taste each dish, you do get the impression that it is not expensive just for brand’s sake, but rather a reflection of the premium ingredients that went into them. The roasted pigeon is well seasoned, has wonderfully crispy skin and the perfect ratio of fatty to lean meat. Their star dish - sweet and sour pork - is served over a bed of ice that helps retain the crispiness of the pork even after a prolonged time. Their bamboo clams are served whole, making for a substantial bite along with crunchy garlic. Lastly, where most would come for their pao fan which is also excellent in its own right, what we would instead recommend is the claypot rice. An almost lost craft in Singapore at this point, their claypot rice manages to come closest to achieving the hard-earned golden brown crust that eludes even most other famous specialty stalls. With so many great dishes, it is recommended to come in a larger group and be sure to check their online menu for dishes that require pre-order such as the roasted pigeon and sea cucumber.

Wow. Found my new favourite cantonese cuisine place. AND THEY HAVE SWEET AND SOUR PORK ON ICE 😱🧊 so crispy and such a rare find in SG The crab was soooo fresh and juicy. Their 老火汤 was boiled so well, didnt had to add any salt to taste cause the soup itself was bursting with flavours. Loved their signature sweet chili sauce too, goes really well with the 泡饭 Their mango pomelo sago was so generous with sago Restaurant staff was really warm and friendly. The place was also clean and good vibes

Menu comprises of HK style cuisine including dimsum items. Although the pricing looks alright, I felt some of the ingredients were a little short- eg the sweet and sour pork dish: the pork chunks were more batter than pork. The roasted chicken was a little overwhelming as it did not look as good as the picture in the menu nor taste as good as I have imagined.

Recommended by a friend. Definitely worth the calories and it's so authentic (main dishes, drinks, desserts, and etc.). Didn't capture all the food we had. Must try the 冬瓜盅 (not in the images I shared). Atmosphere is ambient and chill. Boss and staffs are friendly and happy to chat with them. Hope another outlet is back to business soon.

Located in quiet neighborhood, not much crowd at a weekday lunch. Standout dish for me is the salt baked chicken, the chicken remain juicy and smooth while the skin has a slight roasted coating. Four season French beans has a strong whiff of wokhei and has the right crunch. Less impressive is the carrot cake that taste like an omelette with carrot bits. Sweet sour pork on ice and fried taro puff is decent.

One of the best Cantonese restaurants in Singapore. Their signature dish, Chef Special Pao Fan, is a must-try. The stewed beef brisket, salt-baked chicken and Iced sweet & sour pork are also on point :-)

Very crowded on weekends! Make reservations before coming! The only thing that I find interesting is the crispy custard bun! Usually most places sells steamed one. It’s not too bad too. Otherwise the rest of the dim sum is not too bad! Overall I will still recommend. If you are from some of these companies in my photos (UOB,Apple,StarHub,etc), you can come during weekdays and get 15% discount

The staffs are very friendly and thoughtful. We had ice cream cake. We had a hard time to use the plastic knife provided by the cake shop . And we didn't expect the staff to notice us and came prepared with a proper knife in a small pail of hot water. And the staff even help us to cut the cake. We had a wonderful happy birthday celebration and feel so honored to see the chef boss to come over and greet us and wish my mum happy birthday in Cantonese. Thank you!
