Google
Love this place! They're food is amazing I didn't give 5 stars only because service wasn't up to par. But overall soooooo good and they are generous with their plates and priced reasonably. Love that their cream cheese wontons only have cream cheese in them and not onions and other stuff. Their soup is complimentary with your meal when dining in and it's super delicious. Been coming here the past 14 years.

Google
I was greeted warmly when I arrived, and my drink order was taken in a timely manner. I would have to say the the customer service was somewhat lacking though. It took a while to get my drink, and for my order to be taken. There were no other people in the restaurant but the cooks appeared busy with call in orders. Food was pretty good, but again the service was lacking as I was not provided a refill in the entire hour I was there. Overall, I would probably give this place another try as the food was pretty good, but just give yourself extra time if you’re on a lunch break from work.

Google
I ordered garlic chicken but got what I think is orange chicken, whatever it is is so delicious! The chicken is piping hot and so fresh. I also ordered wor won ton soup and very pleased. So far easily my new favorite Chinese spot in the valley. The owners are so warm and friendly and seem to know their customers by name. I will definitely be returning to try other dishes.

Google
Our sweet and sour pork had hard pieces on them. Use to be crunchy but no more. The rice was ok. Appraisers very disappointing. Will not go back

Google
I rated this restaurant previously 8 years ago on another site and it was great! No more! The restaurant was dirty. Every table had dirty dishes on them. I ordered house egg foo young and instead of being Patties it was chopped up in pieces and the shrimp and meat was mixed into gravy on the side instead of being in the patty. I choose this as a low carb option but it was not since all the shrimp and meat was soaked in the gravy and the patty was not a patty but a chopped up greasy mess. I called the restaurant and they said that’s how it comes…

Google
I've always enjoyed East China Town restaurant. When I worked in the area, this was one of my go-to places. The food is good, prices reasonable, and servings are plentiful. My last visit was a quick lunch stop for the garlic chicken lunch. It was delicious, as expected, and had enough leftover for a meal another time. Too bad I don't live closer. It's a treat to be in town and enjoy a great meal at East China Town. I've been back a few times. I normally dine in. The service is great! Their service is one of the reasons I dine in.

Google
Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to the service from South standing the owner's daughter is very great and they treated my grandson like royalty even though he has autism they treated him just like everybody else great wonderful family place you have to come and try it

Google
I really enjoyed our meal here. The Sweet and sour pork/ lemon chicken were excellent, not overly sweet.

Yelp
Great food and the price for a single meal was good. Hot and fresh. Piled high. I recommend giving this restaurant a try. You wont regret it. I was super excited they had sesame balls with red bean paste. Made fresh to order. I always buy them in San Diego. I'm so happy i found this place.

Yelp
Total throw back to the 70's. Huge portions, neon red sweet and sour chicken and basically bland except for the salt. It's been awhile since Chinese takeout was on my list of things to get but here we are. These guys are working hard pushing the food out to the masses. I was watching a bit as they were finishing up my order. They moved like machines, they done this before. A fist full of this, a handful of that and a pinch of you know. All perfectly fine. Not gourmet, no special needs requests. Just OG Chinese/American food. A few stars for nostalgia. Last words...soy sauce.

Yelp
We had ordered some food from East China Town that was that up to their usual high-quality, when I went back to let them know, they remade my order brand new no questions asked that is amazing Customer Service and Quality. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for some amazing Chinese food. Eating is great too as well as takeout.!!

Yelp
They have great portions of food for the price they give you. They're really quick on turning over your order and getting it to you. I will prefer to take my food home instead of sitting in the restaurant because sometimes they get busy and they forget about you in the restaurant no music in the restaurant, but you can watch them cook your food fresh, which is a great thing

Yelp
I am truly impressed with this Chinese restaurant. I would've given this place five star rating if they had my item. (Salt and pepper pork chop). But I ordered on the phone and it was supposed to be ready in 10 minutes which is pretty impressive and when I came in to pick up my food, the girl knew which order was mine before I said a word. Price: $- $$ Service: A+ Quality: A Note: this is the reason why I keep coming back here... You really get what you pay for... Positive experience, great food, affordable, price, and good selection

Yelp
Unfortunately this was probably the worst Chinese food I've had... it was soggy and my broccoli beef was not sealed and spilled all over my car. I ordered through DoorDash so maybe they felt like it didn't have to be good. On top of that, it had no Flavor whatsoever... no salt or anything. The udon noodles I ordered had no sauce at all?? I'm really disappointed

Yelp
I ordered to go . Staff was nice . Fried rice was delicious. I ordered garlic chicken and broccoli and the chicken was not fresh at all ! It was chewy and not soft at all . The container was piping hot but chicken was stale tasting as if it was reheated . The chicken was around $15 with steamed rice but I wanted fried and to make it fried was an extra $4. I only ate the rice . It probably would have been fresh if I had ordered to dine in . Disappointing as they live nearby and would have continued to eat there if they got it right the first time around .

Yelp
Don't buy their sweet and sour prawns! There are barely prawns in them! It's all flour and it is raw undercooked flour! No good. Not consistent on their chow mein or fried rice either! What a waste of money!

Yelp
Food was GREAT! Location was very casual and service was quick and easy .. our meal Was excellent Dry Garlic Fried Beef and Orange Chicken and pork fried rice and crab wontons .

Yelp
This place has been around for many years! I used to love their food but lately it's just not that great

Yelp
THE BEST CHINESE FOOD IN MODESTO! only reason I didn't put 5 stars is because sometimes you wait to even be greeted for a long time but worth the wait. Not the best though if you don't have the time to wait. Some nights we choose a different place because of this but really, really good and people are very nice.

Yelp
Ordered food on the phone at :4:48 pm. They told me 15-20 minutes. Showed up at 5:10 pm and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. Sat there waiting for an additional 30 minutes. I went to the counter and asked how long it would be and they told me 5-10 minutes. People came after us, paid after us and left before us. I won't be back. This has happened before, but not to this level.

Christie D.

Yelp
Been coming here for years .. I usually get the garlic chicken combo. Always fresh & tasty. This batch was dry, no crunch, little garlic sauce. I ate 1/3 of it & threw the rest out. I remember it being hot, crispy & fresh. The fried dumplings were ok. Ate 2 of them, tossed the rest. Not sure if I'll go back.

Yelp
I tried this location for pick up. Inside were clean, and the kitchen area seemed well managed. The line of people was also impressive. Sadly the food seemed lack luster. Ordered parchment wrapped chicken, Mongolian beef, and pork fried rice. Our parchment wrapped chicken was over cooked and burnt insides on all of them. The Mongolian beef was okay, but it tasted just like the burnt parchment wrapped chicken? Lastly was the fried rice, this was edible yet also bland. I am glad they have people that seem to like the food. Definitely not somewhere I will try a second time.

Yelp
I reviewed this restaurant 8 years ago and it was fantastic. Totally downhill from there. I ordered the house egg foo young and it was not at all good. Chopped up in pieces with gravy on the side with ALL the beef, chicken, shrimp mixed in the gravy. I ordered the egg foo young as a healthy carb option but this isn't it! Isn't the meat supposed to be in a patty!

Patricia O.

Yelp
My husband and I love the food and they are very generous with their portions. it is a regular Friday night takeout for us!

J W.

Yelp
I did not realize it was under new ownership! The food is not as good as before, they got my order wrong the first time giving me sweet and sour chicken #5 when I ordered #7 shrimp chow mein but I tried them again and the vegetable chow mein was a miss noodles were overcooked and my to-go plate was full of liquid. I can not bring myself to try them again.

Yelp
Consider the context: East China Town is a good old fashioned American Chinese Restaurant. It has all the standard favorites. It's greasy. It's salty. The portions are generous. It tastes good. Don't expect anything new here. It's not "fusion". It's not the "authentic" Chinese food from that place in the Bay Area that doesn't even have menus in English. It's American Chinese Food. I've been there twice for takeout. They are fast. The Moo Shu is great. They use the Chinese restaurant style pancakes and not the Mexican tortillas that other places in Modesto are using for Moo Shu. The Garlic Green Beans are extremely addictive, and I made short work of the dish. But it's not the Szechuan string beans that I'm craving... The big negative is the plastic foam takeout containers. They will be in the landfill for a few hundred years. Why can't they use the traditional waxed paper or something a little more biodegradable? The ambiance and decor are old school Chinese restaurant. Looks like the floor should have been replaced 5 years ago. But it looks clean, and you can see all the way through the kitchen and watch them prepare your food if you are that brave. It looks like a family run business that would be really stressed if they ever had a full restaurant. East China Town is recommended for when you are craving what you think of as American Chinese Food. Courteous staff, family style restaurant, tastes great!

Yelp
One of the best. It's been around and family-owned for as long as I can remember and never disappoints. Friendly people, fast service.

Deborah S.

Yelp
Ordered war wonton soup. Wonton was very soggy. Will pass in this item in the future.

Yelp
I ordered to go, I really enjoyed it. My go too for Chinese food, is always sweet and sour. The regular place I go to wasn't open; so I tried this restaurant. Their sweet-and-sour was on point. It was nice and crispy, even though it was covered in sweet-and-sour sauce, didn't have that sogginess that tends to come with this dish. Noodles were good. I would definitely go back. Maybe dine in next time.

Alicia C.

Yelp
Love the food. Always fresh. Nice friendly service. Beef chow fun and pot stickers the best!
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
The decor had a lot to be desired but the food is delicious. I do wish the portions were a little larger.
google avatar

Cali P.

Yelp
I give five starts if I can finish all the food I ordered. First time visit great food! ordered fried wonton orange chicken bbq pork chow mein chicken pan fried noodles walnut shrimp. Do not expect anything but good home cooked Chinese food.

Charla K.

Yelp
This has got to be the worst Chinese food I have ever had - egg rolls were soggy- meat was nasty - never again

Yelp
Me and a friend came here for a quick dinner. There's not alot of good chinese restaurants out here. So Im glad we gave this place a try. This place is a hole in the wall I ordered the chowmien with sweet and sour chicken. The staff was friendly and she came to check on us. I'll definitely come here again.

Tamara R.

Yelp
Was very disappointed. The garlic chicken was tasteless. The prawns were not any better.

Ray S.

Yelp
I just tried to order lunch combos and they were trying to charge extra for each combo with fried rice/chow mein without meat, saying they have to cook it special. It's not like we are upgrading to meat, shrimp or anything special. Thought this place was a restaurant and everything was cooked. The Tall guy is too much, long time customer wont be going back anymore.
google avatar

Dee T.

Yelp
Food was great! They were really busy and it took a while but it was worth the wait. Hard to find good Chinese food and the price was quite reasonable. Will definitely come back.

Sheila D.

Yelp
The food I received was subpar. I've never seen honey walnut shrimp dish ruined more than I did when I received that as part of my order. I do not wish to order from this restaurant again.
google avatar

Wess F.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. The owners are friendly and the food is always fresh. In my opinion this is the best Chinese food in the area by far.

Katherine S.

Yelp
We have loved eating at East China Town for about five years. However, our dinner last night was not very good at all. The pot stickers, fried prawns and eggrolls were all way under cooked. In addition the meat in the pot stickers contained long white hair like fibers. The Wor Won Ton Soup and Sweet and Sour Chicken and fortune cookies were the only things edible. We were highly disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
A deliciously freshly cooked to order. I have bought food here for delivery and they do not cut on portions or qualify. If you like Panda Express then you don't know quality. This places food arrived hot not over cooked food but food that tastes as if they just made a whole batch just for you to the point that 2 day old take-out tastes better, just add couple droplets of water and it's like new. Go try it it's great! This will be my go to for now on bc price and quality don't compare elsewhere. Thank you! Next time I'll get pictures.

Nanie R.

Yelp
It might look a bit funny but it is delicious ! The pork chow mein is thick and juicy, unlike Panda Express' thin flavourless chow mein. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is full of flavour and super creamy. The Orange chicken is very good & the Garlic chicken as well. I only reviewed the food I ordered. I would definitely recommend this place to eat. I did not dine in, I ordered thru DoorDash.
google avatar

Donna N.

Yelp
Friendly staff! Good portion sizes. Food is tasty & not greasy. Wait time can be a little long but only because they are busy
google avatar

Mrs S.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. I loved their veggie chow mein, the vegetables were cooked (so many places the veggies are mostly raw/too crunchy) and wonderful! The fried rice was tasty. We also really enjoyed the sweet & sour chicken ( more pineapple would make it 10/10) and the orange chicken. The pot stickers were so yummy! Nice & fresh (not overcooked and dried out like so many others). We really enjoyed the food here and will definitely be return customers!

Yelp
This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Modesto!! Amazing portions with tasty food.. at great prices too :)! The people who work here are so kind. They wear masks and bring the food out in an ample amount of time. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Alexis G.

Yelp
Phenomenal food at great prices. Service is always very fast and friendly, everything made fresh to order. We've been ordering from East China Town since moving in Feb 2020 and will always come here whenever the mood for delicious Chinese food strikes.
google avatar

Tammy X.

Yelp
Was so excited for beef chow fun but this place was such a let down. Food was extremely salty, noodles didn't have the oil shine to it, and no bean sprouts to the beef chow fun. +1 star cause they were generous with the amount of food and beef but I didn't care about that, I care more about the noodles.
google avatar

Aaron S.

Yelp
Best hot and sour soup in town. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, East China Town is an easy go-to.
google avatar

Sabrina S.

Yelp
This place is a little jewel tucked away but oh so good! The price is very cheap & the portions are huge. The waiter is very friendly & the food is cooked fresh to order. I would recommend the sizzling rice soup, dumplings, egg foo young, sun set shrimp & curry chicken. The usual fried rice & chow mein are delicious.

Aimee T.

Yelp
This is the spot! If your going somewhere besides here for Chinese food, your blowing it. They make everything so fresh and have awesome customer. I highly recommend their garlic chicken and cream cheese wontons. My husband loves chicken fried rice but I never really been a fan, I'd eat it from this place any day of the week!
google avatar

Stevie W.

Yelp
So, I'm supremely picky about my Chinese food. It has to have the right umami flavor, perfect saltiness... This is the ONLY place I've found in Modesto that is doing it right. From the dim sum- pork buns, egg rolls, pot stickers and wings... To the plates- orange chicken, broccoli beef, pork chow mein... Everything I have had there is amazing! Quick take out, cheap prices. I'll keep returning!!

R D.

Yelp
Since Beijing closed, we have searched for somewhere to eat Chinese food. Several places have disappointed us, but finally we have found a good Chinese restaurant. The ambience is somewhat lacking, but the food is very good, and the people who work there are very nice. We love their chow mein, and the beef and broccoli and the sweet and sour pork are very good. Their egg flower soup is quite tasty too. We are hoping they will grow and be able to spruce the place up a little.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
This is the worst Chinese food, I've ever had. Am surprised because they get a good rating and it always busy. No exception today there where a lot of people there, maybe we just ordered the wrong food. Pot stickers where pretty bad, but not as bad as the chow mein which had no flavor and the chicken was rubbery, flavorless and pretty disgusting. I am forced to give them a star but if there was a negative rating this place deserves it.
google avatar

Td O.

Yelp
Simply the Best Little Chinese restaurant around! Great friendly owner, food is beyond super tasty and Super fresh, crunchy vegetables, no oily shine, just super in every way! I love Chinese food and have tried just about every joint around, none have come close to this secret little joint! Do yourself a favor and give this Gem a try , you will be more than satisfied!!
google avatar

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
Decent size restaurant. I am just unsatisfied w/ the food, EXCEPT the egg noodle soup; that was good. Will not come here again though.

Natasha R.

Yelp
Drove across town to eat food that was fresh the last time .. well we paid 60 to feel grossed out and the oil needs to be changed everything tasted gross.. the shrimp was soggy and nasty tasting.. the portions were small and chicken foil was rubbery.. the potstickers were so soggy falling apart and just ridiculous the lady dropped my whole order in our face .... Never ever ever again just a whole bunch of extra charges to substitute they deserve not even a star
google avatar

Melissa N.

Yelp
We absolutely love this Chinese place, so it actually kills me to give them a bad review because we enjoy the food. But their wait times are ridiculously not accurate. This is the third time in a row this summer that they told us 20 minutes for our food to be ready, so we show up to pick it up and the total wait time is over an hour. If the wait time is an hour, OK no problem because the food is good, we'll come grab it in an hour. But don't tell me 20 minutes and make me wait 40+ minutes in the parking lot 3 times in a row. That is so frustrating. Update: after over an hour waiting in the parking lot they didn't give us an item that we ordered. So frustrating and disappointing
