"Salt & Pepper Shrimp Some days, all we need is a big bowl of head-on shrimp that have been salt-and-peppered and fried to a nice crisp. There were a lot of those days in 2020, which is why we ordered them from so many different Chinese restaurants this year. Some were too soft, while others were under-seasoned, but the ones from East Ocean Seafood in Quincy were in the Goldilocks zone. Now that we think about it, we should order a side of porridge next time too." - joel ang

Very authentic traditional Cantonese Chinese cuisine. Food is delicious and this place is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. I'm not talking about spring rolls or crab rangoons, but real Chinese food. They also have Chinese BBQ inside, like crackling pork, roast pork, roast duck, soy sauce chicken. You can also order these for takeout. Service is usually good but can get busy if restaurant is full sometimes. Atmosphere is good, but can get crowded if restaurant is full. Great for lunch when it's less busy, and great place for a family dinner. Price is fair. $10-20 for individual, and of course family style would be more. Free street parking around the area.

Had a Great experience! The Server was amazing. Great attention to detail. The food was delicious. Soft-shell crab, Crispy half chicken, rice and noodles were very tasty.

Small place that cooks authentic dishes from my childhood restaurant memories. We went at a slow time - 2p on a Monday - and were the only ones eating. The waiter was efficient and helpful and understood my Americanized Toisanese. We got everything exactly the way I asked for them to be cooked. Food is old school nostalgic and very reasonably priced for the generous serving size. It’s a small space so it is usually packed when we walk by but we went in today because it was post mid day lunchtime so we sat and ordered right away. Would definitely return to try more menu items. It’s a large menu.

This was our first visit to East Chinatown Restaurant, based on a Google Maps search. It seems we arrived close to closing time (within 2 hours), as many of the tempting Chinese BBQ options were already sold out or past their prime. Additionally, the staff appeared to be winding down for the day, resulting in minimal service and a wait for our food to be cooked. While the food was affordable, it lacked flavor and presentation. On the bright side, there's a small parking lot behind the restaurant (in addition to street parking), which is helpful to know. We plan to return at an earlier time to experience the full menu and hopefully, enjoy a more attentive service and tastier dishes.

Google
Large portions at good prices. The food is really tasty. Best to eat family style and share everything. We ordered fried tofu, salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper pork chops, clams in black bean sauce and watercress with garlic and it was more than enough food for 5 of us.

Just Me

Google
My opinion is that this was the best quality food and price in Quincy.

Google
Man, I really didn’t want to write this review but at this point I can’t let it slide anymore. I frequent this restaurant quite often. Sometimes it’s just for lunch or dinner. Other times it’s whole trays of food. The food itself is good. But, The biggest issue I have is inconsistencies with pricing. Over the phone I would be told 46 and change but in person it would cost 51. Unfortunately for me, this had happened several occasions now. One might think that it’s just tax they add on after. No other restaurant does it this way. That’s also nearly 10%. I don’t know why I would have to barter for my takeout just to pay the right amount. This type of greed is really pointless. I don’t get why they do this. Please be wary and don’t get up-charged.

Google
It's not delicious, it's not delicious at all, and the service attitude is not good. When you order food, you come in and ignore the customers. You sit down and don't bring tea and menus. I have to tell you that there are no menus before you get them. The waiters are very loose and have a bad attitude. These dishes are not delicious.

Yelp
Parking is not too hard too find! Service/servers are nice nothing too out of the norm. Food was amazing! I tried their crab Rangoon It was amazing! I also tried something unique and what I typically wouldn't order and it was JellyFish. You eat their tentacles in a pickles sauce. If you like dill pickles imagine it in a string like form; I was afraid since it was my first try and couldn't imagine myself eating a jelly fish but when I tell you it was phenomenal it truly was in every sense of the word. I didn't jump all too deep into the main dishes but I plan on returning. The restaurant is cute in design so you'll enjoy the scenery while you enjoy your food.

Howie H.

Yelp
parking is street. ambiance is what you find at any chinese restaurant. service was great as we were one of four tables at the time. came here for a large family lunch and they are good for that as the dishes are on the large size. we ordered meats, vegetables, seafood. i ordered two large oysters and they were my favorite.

Rudy M.

Yelp
I returned here because I'm craving a good Cantonese food. I came during lunch hours and surprisingly more people are ordering take outs. Service was good considering I'm their only customer. I ordered their Hawaiian fried rice, chicken with scallion and garlic, and jelly fish. The food are great and most of the portions are for 1-2 people servings.

Michelle T.

Yelp
The SPOT for family style Chinese food. This spot is always filled with old asian uncles and aunties that's how you know it's authentic. My go to order is always: -beef brisket with turnip (but I sub turnip for bean curd) the beef is always sooo tender and I love the tendon. -fried chicken with garlic. Highly recommend eating this at the restaurant versus at home. Tastes amazing fresh. -salted fish and chicken fried rice. They don't skimp on the salted fish, flavor is very prominent and just delicious -any of their soups! Delicious Love bringing my family here, you'll never be disappointed!

Dana W.

Yelp
Took our daughter and her hubby out for her birthday dinner. She chose East Chinatown and I'm glad we called to make reservations as they were turning people away at the door. Food was hot and fresh. Service was great and we will definitely be back.

Lizzie Y.

Yelp
Updating my review because I forgot to say, MUST GET the king crab course ! This is great for a special occasion and of course if the party enjoys crab. They make the crab in multiple different ways and it's absolutely delicious. Must try if you haven't... it's one of my favorite things to get from Chinese restaurants!

Jose B.

Yelp
Excellent Cantonese restaurant we liked everything we tried and we shall return to try some more stuff. Worth going out to North Quincy for for sure.

Yelp
I ordered take out, there was quite a few items. One of the dish i ordered is 1/2 fried crispy chicken, somehow it's missing pieces. 1/2 of a chicken and there was only 2 piece of white meat. Another dish I ordered was sizzling black pepper beef, but i got pork chop. The food was only subpar, I'm disappointed.

Cheryl T.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from this spot and it was delicious. The portions were pretty big and we had leftovers. We ordered: - roasted duck: the meat was very flavorful and tender. - sweet and sour spare ribs: the sauce was really good and the ribs came with a mixture of pineapple, bell peppers, onions. The spare ribs were cooked well and the meat fell off the bone easily - sesame chicken: served with broccoli. The sauce was a little sweeter than other restaurants but it was very good. I liked that the chicken wasn't too heavily battered Definitely plan on ordering from here again!

VietCitron T.

Yelp
Roast duck was crispy and flavorful but my favorite dish was the fish filet and vegetable w/ XO sauce. That just had a big WOW in flavors and refreshing textures. Great authentic Cantonese Chinese foods, highly recommend!

John T.

Yelp
Sunday 09/15/24 12:00 pm. The place was packed. Need to hire more waiters, only 2 not enough. Waiting time for beers, hot sauce, ice, waters were way too long. Sometimes forget. Ordered 8 dishes. 3 combinations squid, shrimps and pork chops came out last. Pork chops meat were dark. Unbeatable. Dark oil?

Lina H.

Yelp
3.7. Went for family dinner on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. The food came out quickly and was p good. Food was seasoned well and everything just had the right texture aka crispy stuff was crispy. The portions are big. It's a small place but the main thing that threw me off was the smell of bleach mixed with aquarium and ngl it was distracting while I ate but if you're looking for a Chinese restaurant to eat family style, it's not bad place for food.

Dan L.

Yelp
Pretty good Cantonese food in Quincy. We came in for dinner. We tried ordering the Peking duck but the restaurant said it was too busy that night. So instead we ordered beef flat noodles which were very good. The snow pea leaves were excellent. The salt and pepper pork chops were ok but could have used more flavor. Prices are a little high but it is conveniently located and quick. It seems to be a popular place locally.

Ellie R.

Yelp
The WORST! I made a reservation through Google, received a confirmation, drove 45 minutes to go there... Walked in and said sorry we can't give you a table we are booked! They didn't care that we had a reservation. Do not book through Google, but don't go there with that attitude! Bad place, not nice people!

Les Z.

Yelp
Oh yeah if you don't mind the mice droppings extra flavor in your food. Good for it if you are brave enough.

Virginia T.

Yelp
Everything we had was delicious. Service was quick and prices were very reasonable. We lucked out with parking in back. We had a table of only 7 but ordered enough for 10! Forgot to take pictures of some of the food. Will definitely go back!!

Jingzhou M.

Yelp
This was the second time we dined in. Funny that the first time dined in this place was purely an accident. I wanted to go to the dim sum place around the corner but accidentally put this place in my GPS, haha! Well, the GPS actually helped us find this treasure! My favorite is the beef chow fun. It cooked perfectly and not as greasy or salty as I had in many other places. This time I also ordered the herbal steamed chicken in lotus wrap, and it had such a nice presentation! Everyone passed by our table asked what it was. The taste is a bit hard to judge as it has the unique Chinese herbal flavor plus the sweat flavor from dates/goji berry. Will definitely come back again to try their famous roasted duck. It was sold out when we got there today.

Yelp
Higy recomemdent its so goood. We already order so many food. I really like the way thay service! Very friendly

Yelp
Haven't been here in years but a recent re-visit to this place brought back so many memories. This was definitely one of the original, authentic Chinese restaurants in North Quincy before it became so popular. This place has always had high-quality food and was the perfect place to have a family dinner; we were not disappointed. Char Siu: delicious pork with a sweetness that goes so well with its meaty flavor. It had the perfect balance of fattiness and was not tough at all. It just melted in your mouth and went perfectly with some white rice. A go-to Chinese classic that is always a must-try. Sizzling Tofu and Clams: although I do not remember the exact name of the order, this was as accurate as the dish was; tofu and clams (and some veggies) in a sizzling plate/pot. Every bite was so flavorful and as with any Chinese dish, went well with some white rice. Probably one of my favorites and is a little bit more on the healthier side. Wok Tossed Beef Chow Foon: another amazing classic that is a must-try here. Noodles were perfectly chewy and the beef just melted in your mouth. It all came together in a savory, smoky, aromatic dish. Roasted Duck: always a delicacy and when done right, tastes better than any poultry you've ever had; this place definitely did it right. The skin was perfectly crsipy. The meat was flavorful, tender and moist and had the perfect balance of fattiness and meat. So amazing and delicious! Stir-fry watercress: got to get some veggies in your dinner and these were delightful. Its a great break between all the savory, meaty flavors from the other dishes and is a great dish in and of itself. Overall, an amazing experience. I'm making sure to take my friends here someday to really get the best authentic Chinese cuisine you can in Quincy. It's wonderfully tasty in an all around pleasurable atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Yelp
After years of not going, we went back to this place for a family dinner. The family-owned business did not disappoint. The service was great. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Fresh steamed large oysters on the shell were delicious. Steam eel was tasty. The fried smelts were perfectly fried with good seasoning. All the of the dishes were flavorful and had good portions. The unique black rice, taro soup dessert was a surprise, as not many places offer it. Not too sweet and piping hot. Decent prices also, compared to other restaurants in Quincy.

Nero Y.

Yelp
Hey there, i wish us a great day. Um I've wish that they clean the dishes & drinks a lot cleaner. When I got served with water there's like food in the drink & I was surprised. I didn't want 2 say anything 2 them it might hurt there feelings. I hope things will b better on my next visit

Kelvin L.

Yelp
There is a bug in the jellyfish!!! disgusting! I wonder how they get their cleanliness license. Don't order uncooked item from the menu.

Kelly Z.

Yelp
Food is yummy but service and price is not good. They were busy tonight but definitely not as organized as they should be. They kept walking behind my chair and hitting my chair, I tried to move in as much as possible but they should be more careful even if they are busy. We ordered all our dishes and 20 minutes later they came and told us they couldn't make one of our dishes, shouldn't they have knew that sooner If they ran out of something? Squab had perfectly thin and crispy skin it was definitely the star of the night. The clams were good, some of the clams didn't have meat in them and no did not fall off on the plate. The soft shell crab was nicely fried. The abalone scallop vermicelli is everyone's favorite and it was super tender and juicy. Sweet and sour pork is nicely crisp and evenly coated w sauce. The grass and chicken organ was a least favorite, not a fan because it was very chewy and hard to swallow. Overall, this came to nearly $300 with tip for 5 adults. Definitely pricey but food is not that great to come back.

S. C.

Yelp
My aunt who lives in Quincy took us here with a 4:30 Sat reservation. Every dish was excellent - better than Chinatown. We had: ginger/scallion lobster, salt/pepper calamari, steak with Chinese broccoli, seafood stuffed tofu, mayo shrimp with walnuts, longevity noodles, salted fish/chicken fried rice. Just wish Quincy isn't such a distance from Newton!

Kristen K.

Yelp
We heard great things about the place and ended up stopping by for a light meal. The service was great, food was good and we even got complimentary red bean soup at the end despite not ordering too much. We had someone ordering/talking in Cantonese which may have helped. Can't wait to come back and try more of the food next time we're back in Quincy!

Diana N.

Yelp
I saw pictures of the food here and saw new management and went with my husband on a Sunday night after 8. Glad I came right after a big crowd. Got seated right away and started ordering. Crab rangoon - over cooked (how is that possible?!) Half a Garlic fried chicken a little bit cold but tasty and crispy Salted scallop fried with egg whites nice and big portion! And garlic pea pod stems! I would love to come back to try their bbq pork and Peking duck!

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
The food is delicious here. We always get the chicken w fried garlic and many other options it's usually always packed which means it is excellent.

Hieu V.

Yelp
I can't believe this place only has 3 stars! It deserves a 5/5. This is hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants in Quincy and Boston (outside of Chinatown). Obviously, you know its good food when it's a "hole in the wall." Expect good food over customer service. It's a small tiny restaurant packing with flavor and authenticity.

Deja V.

Yelp
Noticed the reviews about this place mixed. Been going here a few times but never had a chance to leave a reviews . I thought this place is underrated . Since the pandemic it's been surviving off take out orders and it's pretty quiet when we were there. Food was pretty good and no complaints from us. Staffs was nice enough and good spot for a good lunch or dinner .

Edward W.

Yelp
I went here for a family dinner recently. It was pretty packed around 7pm and we waited for over half an hour. Once we sat down, we ordered: * Stir-fried pea pod stems with garlic * Cubed flounder with crispy fin * ginger and scallion beef tendons * stir fried clams in black bean sauce * fried chicken with garlic * fried pork riblets with taro * fried soft shell crab Most of the dishes came out pretty quick but our flounder dish took over 40 minutes before it came out. By that time, we were pretty much full. Out of all the dishes, my favorites were the stir-fried clams and fried pork riblets with taro. I would be happy with just those dishes. The other dishes were average. The most disappointing dish was the fried chicken for it was not very crispy.

Danny H.

Yelp
Amazing food. I have ordered for the past 2 weeks here lol. Beef Chowfoon with gravy is very very good. Light tasty gravy, meat has a nice flavor, and the rice noodles are perfectly moist with a hint of wok taste. Spicy salted pork chops and Hong Kong style steak is amazing... The prices here are very good too. Very affordable. I recommend going here. My new favorite authentic Chinese restaurant .

Sylvia W.

Yelp
Terrible food take out quality and service! We ordered some roast pork last weekend and the roast pork was all fat. None of it was edible! I have never seen something like that! We came back this weekend to complain and requested our money back, but the owner's attitude was not nice and unapologetic. We only got a few bucks back (of course, money was not a big deal) but the service was very unprofessional!

Judy W.

Yelp
Food is good. But service was horrible. Parents have special diets that they don't eat onions. Told the waitstaff. He was rude and impatient. Just keep saying yea yea and brush my mom away. Later plate came fill with onions. Waitstaff basically ignored us the entire time. So my parents removed all the onions off their plate.

Gavin Y.

Yelp
This place really takes me back to the traditional chinese restaurants: very laid back atmosphere (like mom n pop shop), staff are friendly, food taste great and the portions are good with its price (imo). Great place all round, i frequent often for their bbq lunch.

HeyYou W.

Yelp
This review is strictly for their roasted meats, more specifically their chicken and roasted pork. The chicken was clearly not fresh as it was over salted and the tell tale dark bone marrow. We ordered half of a chicken *and* it was obviously missing several pieces (for example, the chicken wing drummie). So not only is it not fresh but they don't give you the amount you ordered. Now onto the pork (the siu-joo for Cantonese-speaking ppl). The pork was mostly fat and hardly any meat. The pork rind was chewy rather than crispy. You can't eat this. We will not finish this. What a waste of $36. This is the last time we buy their pork and chicken from East Chinatown.

Mama P.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Cantonese food that we crave so very happy they have such a big menu and capable chefs. They have big tables for hosting family dinners. I could eat here again and again.

Christine H.

Yelp
For dim sum in Quincy, this place is my go to. The dim sum dishes here generally have bigger portions and a better flavor. It's around $3.50 per plate which is average for dim sum restaurants. At any given time there's only about three carts roaming the small space but the cart ladies are great at remembering that you want har gow or any item that just sold out and they'll bring it your table when the next batch is out. The baked char siu bao, har gow, and egg tart are a few of my faves here. The wait here gets to be pretty long on Saturday and Sunday mornings but if you share a table it could cut down on wait time.

Zhijun L.

Yelp
All of the seafood is raw which made my family member stomachache and threw up. Also the boss attitude was so rude. The worst experience i have ever had.

Le T.

Yelp
Service = what service?

Catie C.

Yelp
I realized that it's tough to find quality Chinese food nowadays. This place, however, reminds me how Chinese food is suppose to be for the best of memories in this state. Or was it that I just had suckie Chinese food in various place in recent months? It's decent portion and the food is fresh. The service was attentive. This isn't a place about varietal; but it suits my needs. It has the stir fry taste that I miss so dearly! It's not easy these days to have good wok cooked foods. This is what I look for in Chinese cooking thus this is my new home for Chinese food till I find another joint that can top this.

Mai P.

Yelp
My bf and I went there for lunch today. Service was okay, not much people in the restaurant. We ordered a fish maw/crab soup-okay, 2 claims vermicelli with seafood (very good), a seafood in bird nests-expensive but I think it's stale and not worth it, a baby bak choy-nothing special. And I think $70 for lunch is a little bit too much.

Freddie S.

Yelp
Went in where there was one large party that was getting to leave so me and my friend were the only ones there. Ordered a veggie dish and a steamed fish with soup. Love the typical trickery they do with the "inexperienced" crowd. Didn't bother bringing the live fish to our table to show us the freshness. (Because it was probably was on deaths door.). For the only people there waiting to order food they wanted to clean and set every other table before doing so. Once ordered the food came out so slow you can almost guarantee they were doing anything but cooking our order. The kicker is that they brought us our check before we even got our steamed fish that they forgot in the steamer and you can guess how dry and mushy that was. Complete and utter disappointment.

Virginia W.

Yelp
I've been here many times and the service is always abysmal. This time, I came here with my family (group of 6) and we ordered a pretty standard meal of rice and about 5-6 dishes. The food came out at all different times. We were first served 2 dishes with no rice. The rice came about 5min later. We began to eat and about 20min after the first 2 dishes, the second round of food came out. The waitress hardly refilled our tea and came up to us about 20min after the second round came out. She told us our last dish was almost ready- at this point, my aunt made a joke about being too full to eat anymore and the hostess said, "well, you should have told me earlier and I would have cancelled the order." Rude. When I went to pay the check, the waitress never came to pick it up. No problem, the counter was right behind me. I didn't believe we had very good service and decided to tip her 10%- normally I'm at least a 20% tipper. When I sat back down, she came over to our table and said that I had to tip her 15%. Excuse me? I thought tipping was based on the service you had provided? Not a set gratuity. Just because we had 6 people, an automatic 15% shouldn't be included if the waitress did a poor job- if anything, it gives her no reason to do a good job, but I digress. In the end, I tipped her 15% for her poor services and now I refuse to go back because of this or I will only get take-out in the future. Oh yeah, food. It's pretty good. I like their calamari.

Julie C.

Yelp
Been here a few times with my family. Seriously, you need someone who can read Chinese- so you can get the specials...sad to say i can't read.. :-( on this particular evening, the dishes we wanted were not in stock!! WTF! no clams for the clams in black bean sauce. no beef udon noodles! This put my dad in a tizzy since he knows what his kids like to eat. We settle for seafood udon, what looked like fried sardines but some other tiny fish whose eyes pocked thru the batter ( i had to clsoe my eyes eating these- fear factor), chicken, some veggies and beef with green peppers. overall, a satisfying meal but wish the menu options werent so limited. Service here is always all over the place. Only 1 person take orders while the others are runners. its odd. place has only 8 tables, so come during dinner rush hour, expect a wait esp. when families come in rolled deep in 10.

Kevin N.

Yelp
Great place for Chinese food. Fast service and friendly staff. Big portions compared to other Chinese restaurants and cost less too. One of my go to places for Chinese food in Quincy.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
For Quincy, I give this 5 stars for best Chinese restaurant we've found...but compared to other Chinese restaurants in the surrounding Boston area, this would be more of a 4. This is one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in the area, which is great to take your traditional parents/grandparents who are looking for genuine Chinese food, i.e., not General Gaos chicken or take-out menu type items. As others have mentioned, the menu titles are in Chinese and English - but some of the English descriptions arent very helpful. I've gotten by fine with the things I've ordered...but going with someone who is more experienced with authentic chinese food options will help you find some of their best dishes. Also true to Chinese restaurants, the waitstaff wont come in and check on you, you need to flag them down whenever you need them - only exception is when you take off your tea lid, they will know to come refill it without flagging anyone. but asking for more food, the check, etc. you will need to flag someone - and it can be any waitstaff, not whoever took your order. The ambiance is also bright (in a weird neon glow) with large round tables and can get very loud - so def not a place to bring a date, but great place to bring the family for lots of food.

Yelp S.

Yelp
Extreme fussy when it comes to food. Must be from my Italian and Irish upraising. East Chinatown Restaurant has the best of both worlds: Simple American style Chinese food and the real deal for Chinese food. Both styles are tasty and prepared carefully. So everybody goes home full and happy. I feel lucky to have such great food so close by.

Aja P.

Yelp
Decided to try a new place. Called and placed a somewhat large order with East Chinatown ($145 worth of food). They told me it would be a half hour. Took them far longer. They forgot my crab rangoons, messed up on my fried shrimp, no hot mustard, and were pretty skimpy with the duck sauce... Rather small portions...wasn't very good. Won't be going back.

Tom G.

Yelp
You must first be aware that this is not your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. It caters heavily to North Quincy's Asian population. When you first walk in, you see the glass warming cabinet with whole roast ducks, roast chickens, roast pork, and other kinds of meat. When seated, you will be given tea. They don't ask, they just bring it to you. It's loose-leaf and very good. The food I've had here has almost always been superb, but the star has always been the soup. Both the egg drop and the hot and sour soup are very good. I also recommend getting something involving the aforementioned duck.
