Once again, the Ojai Pub suffers from its absentee owner and lack of management. As I wait 30 minutes for my salad to arrive, I am told that the kitchen is slow because there is only one cook...well, that's on you guys for being understaffed. I see them putting together a huge "to-go" order while customers actually in the bar are not being served. More, though, just twenty feet to my left on the customer side of the bar sit one of the bartenders and the other cook/chef. Clearly, the kitchen could have used some extra hands; so, why are two employees doing nothing to help any customer??? Cause they can, cause no one is actually there to manage the place. Further, at one point, when a friend arrives, one bartender goes outside to smoke a cigarette. But, they are too close to the restaurant, and so suddenly the whole place smells like cigarettes/tobacco. And, did this worker wash hands upon re-entry to the restaurant? You guessed it...heck no! Don't keep explaining to me there is only one cook and then lecture me that 15-20 minutes is a perfectly appropriate wait time for food (though, as said, it was close to 30 minutes)...how about you have two cooks, serve people fast, and give attentive service and skip the lecturing of the customers!!! Went to the old reliable in Ojai Beverage Company, where my salad came out in seven minutes, no one lectured me on anything, and there were three cooks in the kitchen.
Tony Yanow may be rich and have successful bars in Los Angeles, but the Pub has once again slipped into mediocrity....sad!
