"North Loop pop-up restaurant East Meets Wings set its final day in the North Loop neighborhood. The pan-Asian chicken wing spot’s last day will be on Sunday, May 26. It was always meant to be a temporary restaurant, found within pop-up host Playground ATX. Co-owners Kevin Truong and Rosie Mina-Truong were its first tenants starting in mid-November 2023." - Nadia Chaudhury

"East Meets West, from co-owners and co-chefs Kevin Truong and Rosie Mina-Truong, will focus on chicken wings with pan-Asian flavors. This means whole chicken wings in flavors like the Indonesian ayam goreng, the Indian butter masala, Thai tamarind Thai basil, and the Sichuan mala. It’ll also serve Fil N’ Viet’s popular Filipino sinigang chicken wings and Vietnamese VFC chicken wings. There will be a fried chicken sandwich, boneless chicken thighs, vegetarian crispy rice cakes, rice, cabbage slaw, sauces, and drinks. Desserts include Filipino halo-halo and soft serve sundaes." - Nadia Chaudhury

East Meets Wings is located at Playground ATX which is a restaurant incubator for concepts to take over the space for 6-8 months at a time. It’s time at this location will end at the end of this month. This is a great location with plenty of parking in their lot. The space is well decorated and conducive to small or larger gatherings. We tried some wings, rice cakes, and the spicy chicken sandwich. I enjoyed the spicy kick in the sandwich, the bread is Texas toast and suits the sandwich well. The Sinigang seasoning on the wings were fire and unlike any other wings you can get in Austin. The rice cakes had great texture but was too salty.

Wonderful Asian fusion place. On Fridays they do a ‘Flight of Wings’ special with one wing of every flavor, including a weekly special. Highly recommend. The Filipino flavoring was the standout for me, but they were all absolutely delicious. We also had the Vietnamese slaw, scallion pancake and some boneless wings. Absolutely loved everything we tried.

Love this South East Asian Street Food Concept featuring delicious Wings with lots of different flavors. Feels like you are on a trip to Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and more. Great fresh beverages too. - my favorite, the fresh Melon juice with slightly sweetened milk! - Great Friendly Staff!

The wings are INSANELY GOOD! My favorite is the tamarind thai basil wings on the bone! It has so much flavor and the chicken is super tender. I also always get the lychee basil lemonade which is super refreshing. And if im feeling like treating myself, Ill get the Ube soft serve. This small business reminds me of old Austin (I grew up here). The staff is so kind and the owner clearly takes pride in their food. I will definitely be going back soon.

The food is so tasty and the owners are nice and friendly. We ordered flock trays for a family event and they were great. Our family and guests love every menu that we served Would recommend them highly.

Yelp
East Meets Wings is inside Playground ATX. Playground ATX changes the food every couple of months. I heard EMW is going to be gone by the end of the month (April 2024) so I had to check it out! I got boneless bites (sinigang flavor) with sides of pickles and furikake tots. Also got the chicken sandwich. I really like the sandwich and the coleslaw inside. All of the food was very flavorful, but the wings were a bit too sour/salty. I had to drink water after each bite. Halo halo is delicious! Really love the ube flavor and the jackfruit bits. I felt like everything was a hit expensive. Chicken sandwich is what you should get to be full. EMW also offers brunch options on weekends and $5 on Thursday to-go orders. The owner was very helpful in explaining how to order and let us try banana ketchup, which is a Filipino sweet ketchup-I liked it a lot!

Yelp
A great spot for a quick bite or a sit-down event, but an even greater spot for a to-go option. This Asian spot at the food concept location Playground ATX is a fun place to stop by for wings. The service, especially since it seemed like there was only one FOH worker, was good. No long wait and she explained how everything worked and a hidden flavor of the week that changes on Friday (this time it was butter masala). I came by primarily because I was craving a pandan latte and this seemed to be the only place right now in Austin that had one. I got the ayam goreng wing combo with tots and Szechuan pickles for about $14. At first when I received my food, I thought "hmm, 3 wings and the pickle side being quite small seems a bit pricey for what you get", but I ended up taking food home and my partner finished his comfortably. The ayam goreng wings had a great texture, wonderfully crispy and a nice umami flavor. I liked that all the wings are inspired by a different Asian country ranging from east to Southeast Asia. The furikake tots were the standout star and honestly needed no dip to taste good. I wish I had a bigger side of pickles, but maybe next time I would try the goi (Vietnamese style chicken salad). The VFC (Vietnamese caramel-ish style) boneless bites were great. Definitely that signature Vietnamese flavor in a less messy boneless version. The rice was just plain jasmine rice, but if you wanted something heftier, I would choose that as a side. But otherwise, it's just regular rice. As for the drinks, the pandan latte that I came for was good. I found that the coffee overpowered the pandan so my craving for a pandan latte wasn't satisfied ever since I had an amazing one in Portland, but if you wanted a good coffee that tastes like Cafe du Monde, this is a good one. The melon juice was a refreshing cantaloupe drink that I would probably choose again over the pandan latte. It's a bit addicting, and I feel like I had to stop myself from downing the whole thing before eating food. It's a bit pricey around $5-6 each for those drinks that have a good amount of ice, but nowadays all of Austin's drinks are priced the same. There's also some specials everyday like $5 off Thursday to-go orders or trivia Tuesdays. Personally, I wouldn't find the food large enough for 2 hours of trivia, but it seems like a great option for to-go food. There's also a brunch option, but unfortunately I did not come early enough on a weekend. The wings and tots are great and the drinks that Austin is usually lacking but somehow this place offers are good enough to grant this place 5 stars and to keep coming back.

Yelp
Cool fusion concept, and interesting flavors brought to us by the creators of FilnViet! But a bit pricey FWIW ($11-12 for 3 wings). Tried the tamarind Thai basil and sinigang wings, and preferred the more unique flavors from the Thai one, though I'd love to try the VFC (Viet) ones some other time. Tots and calamansi dip were interesting, but tots were a bit salty. Slaw was normal, but MY FAVORITE was the lychee Basil Lemonade, it was SO refreshing and well-balanced YUM ($6). They're located at the Playground restaurant incubator on Airport til May and it's $5 off $20 takeout orders on Thursday!

Yelp
Come to this place every time I visit Austin! The atmosphere is super cute and the food is delicious! Chicken is always cooked to perfection and has the perfect breading on it. The employees are also very nice as well!

Yelp
Missing these wings already! I stopped by the pop-up one Friday and got the flight. Easily the best wings in town. I hope they find a permanent spot to open back up soon!

Yelp
Hidden gem! The wings are on point! The spicy chicken sandwich is to die for. The corn flake/oreo ice cream is a must! Service great!
