Google
Bright and spacious spot to grab coffee and sit down. The cold brew is good. There's wifi and a restroom.

Berele

Google
The positives of this coffee spot is its size. Large space, enough places to take a rest, decent seating. The problem is it's not original. Feels more like an imitation Starbucks with merchandise sales and even a similar decor. The coffee is decent, but very small selection of anything to chase it with. Better pastries or sandwiches would be a definite plus.

Google
Another little coffee place. Same area of Chelsea which I have been exploring. Coffee was ok, not great, looked nice though. Good pastries. Lots of seating available and nice busy vibe.

Google
A nice hustle and bustle spot, good seating and lots of light. I got two rose vanilla lattes and they were great and not too sweet. The staff was kind and courteous even during a rush! Update: Been living in the city for a bit now and wanted to follow up on the other times I've stopped by. Despite it's simplicity I really do enjoy their ice chai latte, I usually come in the mornings before heading to work and the staff are always killing it even during a rush. Every barista I've talked/ordered with is always so kind and patient and it is commendable. If you want a work area it gets busy sometimes and finding good seating that isn't under the sun can be difficult! But people are always coming and going so if you wait long enough you can get something. Also there is wifi available!

Google
Chill, friendly vibe. Came back here during a short NYC visit for their vanilla rosemary latte (hot) - delicious! (Later that day) Ok, adding a follow-up comment...you know you have a problem when you return to the same coffee shop twice in one day, and they recognize you (!) Sorry, Starbucks - I threw out my Reserve drink in favor of theirs.

Google
Spacious with huge windows. I came too late to try their pastries, drip coffee was good.

Google
I have had one of the best black coffees here. Fruity, great lingering aftertaste. I try to come as often as possible. So I’m lucky that’s not far from work. Additionally, they have a tasty cheddar scone and my favorite rosemary buttermilk biscuit. Cool spot to seat and write. I made some photos dim inside out because of the floor to ceiling windows. Great street views. The baristas are friendly and know what they’re doing. Great place overall.

Google
Lox on toast was delicious. Free refill on drip coffee.

Yelp
Convenient coffee shop located in Chelsea. Staff are friendly and lots of space for seating.

Alan S.

Yelp
Wouldn't give me restroom code even after I promised to buy something (as it was my intention to have coffee there) as I needed to go before my purchase and they made me buy the coffee I was already to get anyway first. Now they're closed. Karma's a...

Yelp
I desperately needed to charge my phone and have some coffee! This place was conveniently located to FIT . It was super cute inside, lovely plants, and very tidy coffee bar .

Yelp
Love the hip vibe of this coffee shop! Great location and solid latte. Super quick, too!

Bob S.

Yelp
Kind of disappointed. The location is perfect, high traffic area keeps this spot a busy. We were lucky to find a place to sit. The small tables are surprisingly comfortable, the seating is not bad. Reminds you a bit of Starbucks. The issue was mainly with their selection of food. It's scarce, to say the least. It's a shame too given that their coffee is not bad. How about some pastries, sanswiches or scones? It was two o'clock in the afternoon so if it turns out they sold out, it's even worse. They should be stocked to the gills given their foot traffic.

Judy T.

Yelp
This location on 23rd street has closed.l loved the coffee and pastries at this location.

Mai Z.

Yelp
The drip coffee is brewed perfectly. Fruity light roast that's not acidic. Spacious sitting area. Excellent service and good energy from all the guys that work at this location.

Yelp
This is a review for the vegan tofu scramble and veggie wrap. I don't tend to expect that much food-wise from cafes, but this wrap was out of this world. It was cooked to-order, delivered hot and steamy with perfectly grilled edges - a wonderful contrast of textures with the soft, flavorful interior. I'm not vegan, but I would get this wrap (more like a breakfast burrito tbh) time and time again. It's a little pricey (turned out to be almost $20), but it is quite large and will fill you up for hours. Ask them for cholula! I studied for a few hours at the cafe, and it was pretty nice - not too busy on a Friday afternoon, outlets if you need them, a bathroom for customers, wifi, a great throwback playlist. Everything you could ask for!

Seby I.

Yelp
Consistently good. I particularly like all the baked goods both savory and sweet. Yesterday I met a friend there for cappuccinos. Anne chose the Cheddar Chive Scone and I had my favorite of the Rosemary Buttermilk Biscuit. If I lived nearby I would be in trouble

Robin Z.

Yelp
Updating my review again! The service is much better now that they are delivering your food to your table. The staff is friendly and everything from the menu items to the pastries to the drinks are delicious!

Karen D.

Yelp
I have never had such good coffee! I've had coffee at many places, but this was amazing. I had to have a second cup! The staff was so nice. I will be going back for more.

Yelp
On one of the busier intersections in the city, wasn't expecting this trendy coffee shop. Saturday afternoon, stopped inside to get away from the heat. Inside there is plenty of seating available, with outlets for people who want to work. Got the Cold Brew ($4), which is one of their least expensive options. Simple coffee which needed some simple syrup and milk to counteract the dark roast. Would have preferred less ice as there wasn't much coffee overall. Service here is fine and the ambiance is less hectic than expected considering the location. Does seem like there is food here as well.

Ira K.

Yelp
Nice layout friendly staff unfortunately. Slightly bitter expresso. Would return. My companion loved the decafe

Tina W.

Yelp
This place should really think thru what their advantages are if they want to survive this fierce competition coffee war in NYC. Had their latte and americano, not that surprising. A good part of the coffee is that it is not bitter or sour. Service is lukewarm like they dont care. Okay

Sonja K.

Yelp
They have a very clean cold brew! Def recommend. The space in Chelsea is a nice vibe, lots of people working from here

Miri S.

Yelp
I like this place. It has a very sleek interior. I got the maple latte with whole milk. It was pretty good; I've had better coffee but also worse. I got a scone - I believe the basil scone - that was pretty good too. Inside is spacious; good for conversing with others, working, or just enjoying a cup of coffee.

Dipali G.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this coffee shop! Finding a coffee shop in this area with decent seating is a hard task, but this place was not crowded at all. It also stays late, so you can grab a late coffee and read/ hang out with friends. They have many different coffee options but don't do seasonal drinks

Justin R.

Yelp
Cool Brooklyn vibe with lots of greenery and natural light. Definitely a nice place to hang out and get some work done or catch up with friends. The big caveat for me is that they do call themselves a coffee roaster but do not have pour overs. The menu in general is pretty basic and in a place like manhattan with so many options, why go here? I tried the drip coffee which was ok nothing to write home about. Tldr come here for the vibe not the coffee

My Cafe Report X.

Yelp
The café sits on a corner of a busy intersection in Chelsea, right outside the 23rd street subway exit. Busy busy. Gray and grunge. It's surrounded by blocky reddish apartment buildings that, when the sun hits through their windows right, project yellow squares of light against each other. The café's walls of windows let in the sun while mysteriously insulating all those inside from the street and subway noise. The door is situated at the very corner of the corner café. Open it and you'll find yourself at the mouth of a splotched concrete path that streams through a space comprising matte black and wood. Benches split and curve across the right side like deconstructed church pews. Small tables line the left wall. The path continues along the barista's bar, passing a heavy communal table and a nook in the back with pretty palazzo granite tables and numerous coiling plants. At the [dead] end, there is a restroom. On a cloudy winter day, the first time I visited, the Chelsea environs felt particularly grimey and cold, but the space felt comfortable for working with a friend or two. On another morning, like a soft hazy morning, the café might be tranquil; the sleepy sun seeps through the glass walls and pools on the wooden tables; two workers prep the machines and wipe cups behind the counter; there is only slight movement outside. The crowd ebbs and flows throughout the day. After the sun sets, the café might become a sparse refuge, enclosing its corner in the middle of a city polluted by light and noise. And the coffeeeeee has a nice floral note. This place is a wholesale bean distributor after all. The turmeric latte is spiceous.

Carol L.

Yelp
Beautiful space, fast wifi, tiny tables but they work if you have just a laptop... Would come back for coffee but probably not to work as there were just too many people passing through in an otherwise bustling area of Chelsea.

Terri C.

Yelp
Love the location, the service/employees, the avocado smash and the interior decor. Everything inside the place was very clean and modern looking. It was so nice to be able to sit inside and hang... The only thing I would have to say for breakfast - with coffee and the avocado meal, it came out to be over 20 bucks. That is hefty but it is also given that it is Chelsea, and this coffee shop is at a higher level, which is fine. Therefore, given the price, I'd come back, but not to re-order the same stuff, maybe just tone it down a bit. I would not be so harsh to complain about the little details because it is still a business in the neighborhood. It is understandable that there are existing competitions, but would hope that those who read reviews, to have some form of compassion and flexibility. It is true that there may be some things that can be worked on, but I do give it credit for establishing in this area during this time. Given that we are going through a pandemic, I would kindly ask all patrons to be more supportive. Please support all your local businesses - it is because of coffee shops like this one, that adds to the existing vivacity of the neighborhood and nyc!

Yelp
My almond milk latte was $6, and I literally finished it in three sips. I'm happy to pay for quality coffee from all over the world (I think this was Guatemala?), but I feel duped because of how small it was. And in terms of taste, it was definitely very smooth, but it tasted like it was mainly milk and no bean. It didn't taste like coffee at all to me. Could've fooled me! WiFi was spotty, but I thought the place was quiet and relaxing to spend time in. I like how the atmosphere is open and bright, and it's very well designed. There are seats and a high-top common table. It's a good place to meet someone, but people are mainly doing solo dolo work. In terms of service, I was confused! The cashier guy was extremely unfriendly and bitter, as if I was annoying him by ordering. The barista, on the other hand, was so friendly and talkative.

Elise J.

Yelp
I've been walking past this place all the time and finally came in for a mocha latte randomly and it did not disappoint! Fast service and it was super delicious! Will be back to try more things on the menu!

Ian C.

Yelp
Fix the door, it's winter, the door takes forever to close and it's freezing whenever anyone enters or leaves. Look around, all your customers are sitting in their winter coats. Otherwise nice coffee shop.

Jackie S.

Yelp
Apparently it's not cool to offer soy as a non dairy alternative anymore. Sad. They only have oat and almond which is why I took away a star. Got an iced oat milk latte. Good coffee, friendly staff, normal prices, and a nice ambience.

Lydia M.

Yelp
Some if you may be aware that I am a coffee monster. The place I stay in NYC is right next to this coffee shop. I have been here enough times to give an honest review. This joint gets TWO thumbs down. The coffee is over-priced and the coffee itself can best be described as acidic skank. I feel bad slamming this place as the employees are lovely. I am so sorry, but this place is genuinely terrible!

Jamie S.

Yelp
East One has great coffee and the staff is so nice! The maple sage latte is awesome. Love going here!

Saniya S.

Yelp
Got the honey latte and it was mildly sweet but a tad bitter. Honestly wasn't expecting a café like this in such a busy section of the city.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Not really impressed. The coffee is bitter. Think Starbucks burnt and then add to that... It's a huge space with no ambiance . I think If not for tourists going here ,it may not make it with just the locals. And ,,they take too long to make your drink especially when it's just average. I

Wesley K.

Yelp
I got the rosemary honey biscuit ($4) and the cold brew ($4). The rosemary honey biscuit was great. The cold brew on the other hand had this strange note. Interesting because there are many cold brew coffee places within this area. I came here because I was super curious about the pastry and cold brew quality. Would come here occasionally.

Jessica K.

Yelp
Went here as a plan c when the other 2 coffee shops we wanted to go to were full and had no seating. Got a flat white and a carrot cake muffin. Coffee was just ok and luke warm when it came out. Carrot cake muffin was moist and not too sweet- a nice compliment to coffee. Not the worst place to get coffee but I'm sure there's better in the area.

Nicholas G.

Yelp
Ordered the green bowl here for lunch. It came as all of the ingredients separated which was different. I had to put the salad together on my own. The flavors really went well. They had some kind of sauce on it that tied all the ingredients together. The hazelnut chocolate dessert was average so I probably wouldn't reorder. For the price you get a good amount of food. I would definitely come back for lunch. I feel healthier after eating this stuff. That always makes me feel good!!!

Paula G.

Yelp
went on a quick coffee run expecting something good... or so I thought. Not only did I, as well as four other people behind me, had to take our own order at the front (something I realized I didn't have to do 10 mins after someone finally appeared to take orders), I had to wait over 30 minutes to get two iced coffees. I would've at least given it 2/5, but the coffee is meh. I don't taste any honey. Would've gotten better coffee if I went across the street for the $1 ones, poured some mystery water from the sidewalks, and tossed a couple iced cubes. Would've given it 0/5, but it isn't possible, plus the ambience kind of made the almost 40 minute wait not as crappy. Pic taken at home (I live a block away) because I didn't want to spend any more time inside that place.

Alice B.

Yelp
The staff are such assholes. They refused to let me use the bathroom even though the only issue was that it wouldn't lock, and the door was open. They also refuse to put an americano in a larger cup, as I guess water is too expensive to waste on me. Go to one of the hundreds of other options in the area!!

Franny A.

Yelp
Not your ordinary oat latte! Urbane interior without the stroller set in Cobble Hill. Yes latte is pricey but no mandatory tip noted though the .50 charge for oat and almond milk is an annoyance. The coffee is top notch and clever seating make this coffee spot a Chelsea destination.Look forward to delicious dinner fare soon...

Ivan D.

Yelp
Horrible service from barista wearing the beige cap. Rude and treats customers poorly.

RT G.

Yelp
I just leaving the coffee shop. I sat a couple of tables down from a guy that was either the owner or manager of the place. 6'3 baseball cap. A Beard. I assumed he was the owner because shortly after I sat down he finished a phone call and sitting in front of his computer and got up and started cleaning the tables nearby. I asked him if he was the owner or manager he replied No. So you have no Association with the business but you're cleaning their tables. I replied well it's a nice place he mumbled something and looked down at his computer. He looked disgusted that I was even speaking to him. I couldn't imagine treating anyone in a place of business. So I gave him another shot and said have a nice day on the way out. He looked like he was smelling shit no response. I don't know if it was because I was African-American. one thing I could say for sure. you will not have to worry about me coming back to that business.

Joy S.

Yelp
Great new addition to Chelsea! Transportation: Located next to the 1 train and one avenue away from the ACE and F train. Price: Decent average price for coffee. My drip coffee is $4. They offer Apple Pay as well. Interior: modern and minimalist. I like the simplicity of the decor. Customer Service: everyone here is friendly. Great area to study or meet people for work and have a quick meeting. I haven't ordered food here but it looks delicious.

Marisol P.

Yelp
$6 for a turmeric latte I finished,(as another reviewer wrote) in three sips. It was barely lukewarm! Was it tasty? Yes. And I don't mind paying for quality. But $6 for an 8oz drink? At least I saved myself some calories. As much as I prefer to frequent small chains and mom and pop shops, I'm going to have to return to Starbucks for my hot drinks. At least I get 16oz of a HOT drink for $6. Also noticed the cashier wasn't the friendliest. Maybe he doesn't get free coffee as a perk and is pissed he also has to pay $6.

John R.

Yelp
This review is for the drip coffee only. I was surprised about the depth and complexity of the flavor for a "drip brew coffee." Recently, my experiences has been during the last six months at various third wave coffee houses has been that attention to the grinding, brewing, and drink preparation has been waning. My impression of this particular coffee is that the preparation is on point, brewed to perfection - just the proper extraction that enhances the inherent flavors without the sour notes of under extraction, and the flatness with over extraction. For reference purposes, I am familiar with African, American, and South Asian typical bean profiles, so my conclusions are based upon these experiences. Please note that this review only applies to the batch drip brew, not to the other beverages at East One Coffee Roasters. As a reminder, I choose to contact small businesses directly for feedback regarding less than excellent ratings. I understand the difficulties with managing small businesses in today's challenging environment, hence the reason for the relative few negative Yelp reviews in my profile. Also, I generally, do not include review of the service - speed, friendliness unless exceptionally positive. I generally visit small coffee shops and restaurants to experience the beverages/food as the number one priority.

Colleen W.

Yelp
Lukewarm, mediocre chai latte. Modern industrial ambiance with ample seating, outlets, wifi, floor to ceiling wraparound windows and a bathroom. I could see this place being a popular remote work spot when Silicon Alley grows alive again!

Allison W.

Yelp
Came to study with a friend and we had a good experience. They have outlets, but not a ton of tables. I ordered a crossiant sandwich with avocado. It came with a side salad for $14. They close early in the summer at 4 PM, which was earlier than their normal 7PM.

Behnaz B.

Yelp
I visit this place regularly, not only because it's the closets coffee shop to me but because they consistently deliver on good coffee, service and food. I usually stop by for a quick take-away cappuccino but a lot of the time I actually bring my laptop and stay. The space is bright, large and airy and even comes with a small gallery. Prices are standard NYC. I agree with some of the other reviews that Chelsea really needed more good coffee shops but what makes East One stand out in my opinion is that they offer an all-day food menu. Not just any food, but tasty and healthy food. This means I can spend more time there without getting hangry (nobody want's that) I'm excited to see that they now serve lunch and will soon be open after hours. Pros. // Coffee is excellent. I'm quite the coffee snob and this place hits the spot every time. // Service is great. I'm always greeted nicely. // Food options are great. They have one of the better avocado toasts I've had. I can also recommend the breakfast burrito, banana bread and overnight oats // Large variety in pastries. Maybe not the best ones I've have but I still appreciate them // Wi-fi is available and works fine. // Variety in seating options (high tops, benches etc) Most of the seats also have a great view for people watching if that's what you're into. // Music is always excellent. Spans anywhere between Best of Mariah Carey to trap music. I'm here for it all. Cons. // It gets pretty busy at times so you might have to wait a few minutes. (nothing compared to Blue Bottle, however) // Although there are a lot of seating options, not many of them have outlets. Some tables are also really wonky which is annoying when you're on your laptop. // I haven't found the water tap. If there is none then I'd love to see it being added. // That's literally it Thanks for opening up and saving this neighborhood :)

jenny f.

Yelp
I don't think I've ever bought a coffee I couldn't drink until yesterday when I got an Americano from East One. I've had coffees that don't taste great, but I can choke them down for the caffeine. This coffee tasted like dirt mixed with pond water. I took 2-3 sips and was afraid I was going to get food (drink) poisoning from it that I tossed it. I truly can't figure out how a coffee could taste that bad.

Hannah L.

Yelp
This place is lovely! The coffee tastes really good and there are multiple options for non dairy drinkers! Because of COVID-19, the indoor dining is unavailable but the outdoor dining experience is good too (bit windy)! The almond croissant is amazing! It's sweet, but doesn't feel greasy or heavy. The flakiness is also divine! I would definitely stop by here again with friends!

Silver S.

Yelp
HORRIBLE !! 23rd st. and 7th ave, in my neighborhood... went in for the first time, bought a slice of banana bread @ $4.00 a slice... and a small coffee @ $3.50... asked for half and half... sat down at table and started to drink... and it was bitter and SOUR clearly from spoiled half and half... I threw it in the garbage upon telling them they did nothing... no refund.. no offer of a fresh cup... NOTHING and I had left the jerk a $1.00 tip. Total lost $9.00 ! Absolute dump never setting foot in there ever again !

Katie M.

Yelp
Busy but functional hipster coffee bar. Not a good place for a quick coffee on the go, though. Waited 13 minutes for a latte.

J R.

Yelp
Customer service at this location is not so good. Waited a while before I received my coffee and others who ordered after me received theirs first. Served their regulars first. Guess they do not want new regulars.

Peggy W.

Yelp
I was so excited for East One to open after seeing how big the space is and after reading great reviews for the Brooklyn location. The location is really central, and there's an absence of large coffee shops in this area to meet up with people or sit down. I came here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am and waited five minutes for a cold brew order when there were only two small drink orders in front of me. Maybe I've been spoiled by the service from other nearby coffee shops, but five minutes to get a cup of coffee that's ready from the tap is ridiculous. The coffee itself was good, and I appreciate that they have oat milk available for you to add yourself. I wish they offered different coffee sizes. Prices for coffee/tea are a little above other New York coffee shops, but the location and large space warrant it. I actually came back the same afternoon with a friend to sit down. We had their tea of the day (mint), and it was solid. while the experience was fine, I found the service a bit slow and will likely continue going to Variety Coffee and Seven Grams Coffee nearby.
