"East Pearl is one of the very few Cantonese restaurants in Sichuan-saturated Rockville. Select from individual or combinations of soy sauce chicken, white-cut chicken, roast duck, and roast pork." - Jamie Liu

My family has gone to this place for years (over 18 years). Food quality and tastes have always remained the same. Great quality. The owner is very pleasant and so are the staff. Updated to 5 stars because tonight, the waiting staff was exceptional. We have guests from California passing through before heading south tomorrow. We decided to meet at East Pearl. We had a 630pm reservation for 10 people, but a few of us were behind schedule and did not get to the restaurant until almost 7 pm. The staff were very accommodating and patiently waiting for the rest of our party to arrive.. Furthermore, after we finished the meal, we lingered and chit chatting for an extended time. It was almost a 2.5 hour dinner, and the waiting staff kept coming around with tea and without any complaints.

Authentic Chinese Cantonese cuisine. Enjoyed their Peking duck, soup and a variety of their veggie, tofu, and seafood dishes. Loved their beef and broccoli… someone in the family orders off the menu because I don’t even know where to begin. Love love being treated to Chinese cuisine once in a while. Worth a visit 🥳🥳🥳

This was my second time visiting this restaurant, and it is becoming my go-to spot for amazing food. The authentic food, atmosphere, and fast and friendly service make me feel I have traveled across the waters to dine here. Everything is fresh and delicious. The food is reasonably priced, and you get an amazing cultural experience when you dine in. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area!

Dec 2023 We decided to order some takout from here for dinner, which we ordered over the phone. We came to pickup the food around 6:30pm. The inside was brightly lit and the tables were about three quarters full. There were 2 or 3 groups of people waiting by the door to be seated. It was very obvious at first glance that the service was pretty slow. I think they need more staff because they only had 3 people covering all the tables: one was taking orders, one was delivering food from the kitchen, and the other was running around doing everything else (seating, dishes, water, check, etc). I mean, the one taking orders was doing a little other stuff, but it was all really inefficient. And then there was only one person handling takeout orders. So we had to wait several minutes in line behind people ordering takeout in person. Actually, I think that was the only pay register in the place, so it was handling the takeout orders plus the dining in orders. Restaurants of this size usually have 2 registers, so you can tell I am unimpressed with this service already. They had placed our order into a reusable cloth bag instead of the usual paper bag. It was impressive at first, until you realize they charge $0.25 for it. It makes me wonder: if you order again and bring the previous reusable bag, will they still charge you? Not to mention that they also used a plastic bag around one of the food items in case of leakage, so there was an additional charge for that too. And just so you know, there was a significant amount of leakage. It would have been more secure if they had used a soup container instead of the flat black container that they didn't even close properly. You can sense my annoyance with their service at this point, right? The only good thing, was that the food was decently yummy. The pan fried noodles had a good crunch, light flavor, and a decent amount of meat. The roasted pork was less fatty than what you get at a supermarket. The roasted duck was also tasty, but a bit too oily. Overall, very unlikely we would go back.

The food and servers/service were great! Our server took their time to tell us about menu and answered our questions! I didn’t feel rushed or anything even though they were busy. We got 4 dishes and all of them were really good. The beef with noodle( flat noodle) was flavorful and delicious! The green beans surprisingly was super flavorful and tasted so good. The fried rice with chicken did not disappoint but def not the best fried rice I’ve ever had. My favorite was the crispy jumbo shrimp! Soo good and def worth the money! Give it a try! Update: the crispy beef is phenomenal and it satisfy my cravings if you’re in the mood for beef. Crispy garlic pepper chicken is also really good instead of the shrimp.

Google
The food was delicious, loved the orange chicken. The pan-fried noodles took a while to get served(around 20 minutes). The chicken from the “soy chicken yee mein noodles” was so juicy and tender. The tea that they served was pretty plain but it was free so can’t expect much.

Visited this Chinese restaurant after a long time, and the experience was quite disappointing. The food lacked freshness, and the razor clams were almost entirely empty. Not the satisfying dining experience I had hoped for..

Google
Very bad service the entire time ignored I had to walk up to the waitress and ask for water after asking 3 times. The food is subpar honestly just take out food served family style. I ordered the shrimp walnut and it taste like fried shrimp and kewpie mayo, just not good. Wontons were probably some of the below average, I was excited to try this place when I passed it visiting the neighboring store. Also parking is a nightmare

Yelp
My wife and I have continued to enjoy food at East Pearl since my review. I have since tried several other gluten free dishes including the AWESOME fish filet with Yu Choy (more about this veggie below) and Hamon Style Rice Noodles. BOTH immediately became favorites making a choice difficult for me! While I know that American groceries have carried Bok Choy for many, many years and some also sell Snow or Napa Cabbage, I have yet to come across an American grocery that sells any of the MANY wonderful Asian veggies of the Brassica (cabbage to non-science wonks) family (including Yu Choy, mild and with a wonderful consistency, GAI Choy - a sharper tasting relative of Bok Choy), as well as Snow Pea greens (Dòu miáo - I pronounce it Do Meow - probably incorrectly) - the vining plant that grows snow peas. BTW, it is thought that Brassica veggies help FIGHT cancer. PLEASE give them a try!

Yelp
I wouldn't reccommend coming here to get your Chinese food fix in the Rockville area. There's plenty of other places nearby (Bob's Shanghai, etc.) that are better in my opinion. I don't have many good things to say other than the food came out quickly. Food: 1. We ordered: - half soy chicken. It was bland and the soy sauce did not help. - squid with sour cabbage. The entree itself was tasty but they cut the pieces of squid so big that it can become a choking hazard. - pan fry noodles with seafood. The sauce was too salty and lacked any flavors. They are cheap with the seafood too. 2. Service: Even though we were seated promptly; it took a good 15 minutes before anyone came around to take our order. I had to flag down the wait staff several times for help. Once our entrees came out; we were missing rice for our dishes. I had to flag a waitress and ask her for the rice. She was quite rude because her response was to tell yell ok!!!!! in my face. FYI-- if you don't finish your food and request for the leftovers to go; they will charge you $0.50 per box plus the $0.05 bag fee.

Yelp
My visit there with my wife started off pretty good with getting seated immediately, despite being busy. The place was very crowded and loud, with a lot of decorations around. Service started off pretty good, but then was horrible soon afterwards. They provided tea quickly, but asked us if we knew what we wanted to order right after that (only about a minute or two to look at the menu). Unfortunately, it took quite a long time for someone to approach us afterwards to take our order for food, which was quite frustrating, being that others who came long after us got served first. We ordered crab wontons, wonton soup, two rice, and the roasted pork & duck. The wontons were not delicious, quite soggy, and just all cream cheese, which I understand is a main ingredient, but I could've just ordered a bagel if I wanted that. The wonton soup came out extremely late, where my wife and I had to remind the servers multiple times that we had ordered it. The only redeeming factor was that the roasted pork was delicious and flavorful. The duck was delicious as well, but so much more bone than there was meat, maybe that's just how it normally is. After eating, it took the servers a long time to provide the check, and even after they provided the check, no one came to pick it up. I walked up to the counter to pay for it, but I was ignored for a couple of minutes, despite standing right in front of them. I will not be coming back here.

Yelp
When it comes to Chinese food, this spot is among the best I've been to in the DMV. My parents who are Chinese immigrants love the authenticity of the dishes on the menu. On this particular visit, I feasted on some roast chicken, pork, and duck along with a salted fish and tofu casserole. Would recommend the casseroles in general as well as the meats. The service was nice and very quick. They were able to converse well with both my parents who speak mandarin as well as me with english. Took a little bit to flag someone down for a second serving of rice, but all in all, the experience was pleasant and I will definitely visit again when I'm back in the area.

Yelp
Went here with my husband for dinner on a Friday night. It wasn't too packed, so we were able to get seated right away. We ordered the crab meat wonton (A03), wonton soup (E03), roasted pork and duck (R05), and two bowls of rice (the roasted pork and duck does not come with rice). We were also served tea. You will have to ask for water if you want it, otherwise they will not serve it. Let me start with the pros. The roast pork was very good. The roast duck was good too but it was too bony, and the skin wasn't as crispy as I would've liked. This combo was good for two people, and the price wasn't bad. The wonton soup was also delicious and came with 3 wontons packed with a shrimp filling. Now, the cons. The crab meat wonton did not taste of crab meat whatsoever. It is pretty much a crab rangoon but was only filled with plain cream cheese. The service is also bad. I ordered the wonton soup as an appetizer but it did not come until the end of our meal. Our server did not tell us what the hold-up was. It took a while before we could call another server over and ask about it. It is very hard to make eye contact with any of the servers or wave them down. This happened again when we finished our meal and were ready to pay. No one came to get our card so we weren't sure if we had to go up and pay or if they were supposed to come to our table. The servers don't really pay attention; they're just kind of doing their own thing. Others said the service was good for them, so maybe my experience was a rare occurrence. Not sure if I'll come back again though, maybe if I'm desperate for some roast pork.

Yelp
There are a lot of great Chinese restaurants along Rockville Pike, such as China Bistro, Bob's Shanghai, and the Dumpling House...so I would skip this experience. East Pearl has a huge menu, but it's not always clear what the dishes are based on the description. When I last went, our waitress forgot to put in our order and we ended up waiting an hour for 2 dishes. Usually, the food comes out pretty quick, but when we asked our waitress about the food the first time, she said it was coming soon (without actually checking and before realizing they didn't put in our ticket). The service was mediocre and disappointing honestly, and with all of the other amazing options, I won't be rushing to come here again.

Yelp
East Pearl Restaurant has a charm of its own, though the interior might not scream "designer chic." What truly shines, though, is the Peking duck - it's so irresistibly good that I'd probably turn a blind eye to any décor critiques. The staff at East Pearl are genuinely nice, adding a welcoming touch to the dining experience. However, during my visit, I felt the service could have been a bit more attentive. It's not that they weren't friendly; it just seemed like they could step up their game a bit in terms of attention to detail. Despite this minor hiccup, the warmth of the staff and the culinary prowess displayed in that Peking duck will absolutely draw me back for another visit. Just get the duck and thank me later!

Yelp
I came to East Pearl Saturday night, and I must say, the experience was fantastic! The food was absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to go back. The highlight of this place is that their dishes are meant to be shared, so it's perfect for a big group of hungry diners. They place the food in the middle of the table which rotates, that way everyone can get try all the dishes that was ordered. It's a great way to explore a variety of authentic Chinese flavors. From the first bite to the last, every dish was packed with flavor and made with care. It's clear that the chefs here know their craft. My personal favorite was the drunken noodles with beef and the roasted pork. Also it was my first time having duck and it was delicious. The peking duck bao is the way to go If you've ever wondered what authentic Chinese food looks and tastes like, this is the place to go. It's a culinary journey that I highly recommend to everyone who is super hungry.

Yelp
Reliable, consistently good mostly Cantonese-style Chinese food! Our go-to for a Chinese food in Rockville

Eunice K.

Yelp
Had this fish the other time I was here so got it again. It was good but too heavy feeling. I prob wouldn't get it again. I want to try the fish that's not deep fried. Def needed more veggies Service is okay Parking isn't the best but not bad

James W.

Yelp
The extensive menu here at East Pearl stands out and can satisfy any persons cravings easily. Located at a busy shopping strip with top notch foodie choices next door, it has plenty of reasons to compete. The parking is always full but luckily plentiful and always a spot available with surrounding shops and restaurants on both sides. The roasted meats are really a highlight and are displayed by the kitchen area in an enclosed window that always deserves a peek! The roast duck is especially recommended, it has a very savory flavor that reminds me of some of the best I've tasted so far, in the area. East Pearl Restaurant deserves a visit!

Yelp
I ordered Kung Pau Shrimp lunch special - just the dish and rice. Does not come with soup or spring roll. That is extra. It was nice. Just be careful of the potholes in their parking spaces or you might damage your car.

Yelp
3.5 stars...We were in an adventurous mood, so we decided to try a new Chinese restaurant. We decided to give East Pearl a visit. It is an attractive restaurant space, located on Rockville Pike, right across from Wintergreen Plaza. Our favorite dish was the sweet and sour pork. The pork was tender and it wasn't overly fried. It had a delicious sauce with pineapple, green peppers, and onion. The portion size was extra large. Next, we ordered the brisket and rice. The description made me think it was a fried rice, but it turned out to be a curry sauce. My son and daughter in law enjoyed it. The meat was tender and it was served over a bed of rice. We also ordered the combination low mein. The serving size was very large. I would have appreciated more meat, chicken, and shrimp in the lo mein. You can see in the picture, that it needed more protein, but it was tasty. Lastly, we ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce. It was enjoyable. There were an ample amount of shrimp and the sauce tasted fine. I always take a few pictures of the inside of the restaurant and this seemed to garner a less than pleasant attitude from our waiter. Also, when I asked about duck sauce and mustard, I was told that it was not included in our order, because we didn't order appetizers. So, I am in agreement with other reviewers that the attitude of the servers was less than pleasant. And, the prices were higher than what I was used to paying. So, if the service is not great and the prices are higher, I will be going back to my old favorite. But, I am glad we tried something new.

Yelp
Thank goodness I live nearby, so the commute is short - because I would definitely be prepared to make a long drive to eat at East Pearl Restaurant. I've been a regular at the resturant for well over a year now, and the food is consistently great!! Having grown up in London where there are many many Cantonese restaurants and visited Hong Kong several times - I can genuinely say that this is the most authentic Cantonese restaurant that I have eaten at in the DMV! Everything from the wonton soup, to the roasted pork, roasted duck, crispy seafood noodles, calamari and shredded beef is amazing!! A word of caution I usually get take-away when I visit, because the restaurant is usually extremely busy!! Of course I prefer dining in, but there is usually a 15min wait (minimum). From the other reviews it seems as if they accept reservations. I usually dine alone when I visit, but if I were ever to go with friends/family in the evening - I would take advantage of making a reservation beforehand.

Yelp
I came here with family after hearing good things about their dim sum, and peking duck. I love peking duck. It's my ultimate comfort food when it's made right. The restaurant is packed on the weekend. I say, it's pretty generic looking aesthetic. Service is meh. They'll do there short little fills of your water but won't ask how your food is. We ordered general tsos, and duck. Both dishes fell short. It wasn't completely bad, but I had better at other restaurants. Usually, both dishes are supposed to crispy and piping hot. It wasn't here. It just seems that a lot of the food here is probably prepared ahead of time and are placed in warmers. It's a little loud, but it's the weekend. I might come back to try the dim sum, but they failed miserably on peking duck. ;(

Annie C.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place for both Chinese takeout food and then also more authentic Chinese food. We tried three dishes, and I honestly wished I could try so so much more. The place was busy and bustling with Chinese accents. They served us tea with the meal, and it was just perfectly homey. The dishes weren't too spicy, thankfully and really tasty. Service was quick although they can be confusing when they speak Chinese.

Amanda N.

Yelp
This has quickly become our favorite Chinese spot in Rockville. The service is fast, food is hot and fresh, and most importantly- delicious! I must first comment on the roasted duck. I had never had duck prior to trying it here and I am OBSESSED! If I were ever to show up on the tv show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" this would be the dish I talk about. It's crispy, juicy, fatty and just insanely good! I order it every time and can't get enough of it! For New Year's I ordered 2 roasted ducks and 1 Peking and it was a huge hit with the family! And surprisingly, not expensive (I thought a whole duck would cost an arm and a leg but 1/2 a duck is under $20 and a whole is $38). Highly recommend trying this dish! The spicy crispy fried pork chop is soooo good too! Really, everything is good! Can't go wrong with East Pearl!

Fabian M.

Yelp
Got their minced beef fried rice the other night. It's a good buy for the amount you get and the taste. It's on the lighter tasting side, like a young chow fried rice and not like regular Chinese restaurant fried rices with soy sauce. Definitely give it a try if you want something lighter tasting. They looked busy, but the cashier/owner was friendly and informative about what to get. The clientele looks makes it looks like a legit canto place from my parent's days. Good OG Canto!

Priscilla T.

Yelp
4.5 stars! Amazing place for Cantonese food! It was poppin' on a Saturday night. Luckily, there is plenty of seating. Our servers were attentive and helpful, but it was definitely your typical Chinese restaurant service LOL totally fine with that it's how it's supposed to be! We got complimentary black tea. We shared the walnut mayo shrimp, eggplant, spicy wonton, fried fish, seafood fried rice between 4 people and it was definitely way too much food. However, all so delicious and filling.

Claude H.

Yelp
The Crispy Pig (siew yoke) was cold and limp, skin was not crispy AT ALL, not even a little bit. The other dish we ordered was bland, almost as if no seasoning was used.

Min Z.

Yelp
A popular Chinese restaurant. The place filled up quickly at lunch time. Surprisingly, it wasn't as noisy as expected; we never had to raise our voices over the din. The prices were on par with other Chinese restaurants. The portions were decent. Like other Cantonese cuisines, the food was mild compared with Sichuan or Hunan food. The menu was extensive, there was a whole book of selections. We ordered 4*Roast Duck 火鴨: juicy and tasty. 3*Crabmeat & Fish Maw soup 蟹肉魚肚羹: a light soup. 3*chicken W. Broccoli芥闌雞: per normal. 3*Fried Spicy Pork Chops 椒鹽肉排: crispy and tender, not healthy. 3*Szechuan string Bean下扁四季豆: Cooked just right, a bit crunchy and not spicy. I would preferred a bit more taste, but it was healthier with light flavor. 4*Golden Jumbo Shrimp黃金蝦 Fried Golden, real jumbo shrimps.

Paul S.

Yelp
Still a solid Canto spot after all these years. Came with a big group a friends after setting up a menu with owners. We had a pretty good spread of food, 10 course meal served banquet style. Cold appetizers came out first and it was a huge platter of roast duck, char siu, cuttlefish and jelly fish; pretty standard stuff and I thought it would include crispy pork. Crab & fish maw soup came next and then the onslaught of entrees afterwards: lemongrass beef, sweet sour ribs, ginger scallion lobster, house special fish fillet, mixed veggies & tofu, seafood pan fried noodles, and young chow fried rice. Ended the meal with sesame balls which would have been nice if they were warm. Still all very good and pretty large portions. Service was pretty good too, as tea and water were refilled constantly.

Lina K.

Yelp
Moved to the DMV area approx 2 yrs ago so I've been on the hunt for finding good restaurants or dining areas. It took awhile but I found East Pearl favorable. Their menu is extensive and it is tasty. Unlike other Chinese restaurants I've tried this one has more authentic taste which is less sweet or drowned in sauce that leaves everything tasteless. I did take out this first time but look forward to dining in and taste everything fresh. When I went into pick up the food the ambiance was busy which is a good sign that customers like this place. And I appreciate the thoughtful packaging of my order.

Richard M.

Yelp
Authentic Cantonese/Hong Kong food. Standard fowl fares are good (roast duck and soy sauce chicken), BBQ pork is better than 99 Ranch or Great Wall. Porridge is authentic. Highly recommend this place if you're itching for some traditional Hong Kong food.

Mikki R.

Yelp
The roast pork is like no other. The portions are not large. The rest of the food is delicious but no ambiance and the service is not terrific but we haven't found another place that is as good

HaLena L.

Yelp
Delicious! Definitely love the food here and the service. We were able to be seated right away which was nice. The server was very attentive and kept checking to see if we were ready to order. The food was great! We had ordered the the roast pork to start and it was really good! It wasn't fatty and it was nice and sweet. For our entree we had ordered the sweet and sour chicken and the chow foon with beef. The chow foon was my favorite, it was really good and very flavorful. The portions is a decent size for about two people. The noodles was a smaller serving and we probably would have ordered another serving of noodles, so don't expect leftovers of the noodles. Overall it was delicious and affordable. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Eileen C.

Yelp
Little surprise the yelp rating is so low. We frequently come here and never review or read the reviews now I am putting in my two cents. Dishes are constantly good, flavorful and good portions wait staffs are quick and friendly. I think I know why there are not too many good reviews. The regular ones don't want too many new people here

Julie K.

Yelp
Tasty food, 100% would recommend you visit! Sliced Beef Congee [3.5/5] I've ordered this like three times. The first two times it was tasty and reminded me of home. Just some warm porridge with large portions and small slivers of ginger. But last time I went tho it wasn't salted. Just tasted like watery rice:( Special House Fish Filet [5/5] My go-to favorite dish. The fish is soft and so tasty. Perfect amount of sauce and perfect taste. Black Pepper Beef [5/5] Super tasty, ate it a while back so I don't remember too clearly!

Julie D.

Yelp
Was super disappointed with my delivery order. I ordered beef chow mein and the spicy tofu. The chow mein did not come with noodles. I just received a container of white rice and some soupy stir fry mainly consisting of onion, bean sprouts, and carrots with barely any beef. The main reason I order this dish is for the noodles. Last time I ordered this I didn't receive noodles either but I thought maybe it was just an accident or fluke. I guess not. The spicy tofu just tasted weirdly sweet salty. Basically it tasted like msg and the texture and consistency was just weird. Instead of actual tofu it seemed like they used soy puffs or something. I love tofu and have had my fair share of tofu and this was not it.

Miles J.

Yelp
3.7 stars? Far too low for what is clearly the best Chinese food in the DMV. ONE time I was served cold crab rangoon and they immediately replaced it with some excellent appetizers before proceeding to take the wonton off the menu. So the service also matched the quality of the cuisine. The best duck I've ever had, delicious lo-mein, and well... everything was just extraordinary. I've taken multiple people here and each person agreed this was some of the best Chinese food they've ever had. There are many in the same tier, for sure. East Dumpling, Bob's Shanghai, Full Kee in Wheaton, etc. But for me, the #1 spot is East Pearl.

George B.

Yelp
Delicious, wholesome Cantonese cuisine. Extensive menu selection to please most pallets. Friendly and helpful staff. Prices competitive but as the quality is quite good, could not expect the prices to be lower. Comfortable seating, very clean, nice ambiance. Only con is that they don't have a brown rice option and parking was a little tight.

Boris W.

Yelp
I grabbed a takeout today and the dish was the Roast Pork, Chicken, Duck, R07 dish. Essentially, it was three mini meat dishes combined into one, and there were roughly 8 pieces per meat. Although the taste was superb, I didn't think the price ($31 after tax) and the portions were fully justified. The chicken pieces were super juicy and tender! The soy sauce seeped thoroughly through the skin and every bite was wonderful. Unfortunately, after a couple of bites, the chickens were gone :( The duck pieces were also delightful! There were a good mixture of skin, fat, and meat. And just like the chicken, the pieces disappeared after a few pickings. Finally, the roast pork were sooooo good. The fat and tendon of the pork balanced well with the super lean part of the pork. And a chew here and there later, the meats were all gone. So, 5/5 for the taste and a disappointingly low score for the portion.

Sylvie C.

Yelp
I think I'm starting to realize I basically eat the same thing from every Chinese restaurants. Keeping the independent variables the same and comparing the different dependent variables. Shall I call this the 3x3 ANOVA study? No? Just kidding. We got takeout using DoorDash this evening for sesame chicken, yangzhou fried rice, and not-at-all-spicy Hong Kong Style shrimp dumplings. Yes, I'm a fussy eater. I wish the chicken wasn't so sickly sweet and they used a different kind of method to batter it. The dumplings were ok. Not at all spicy but just greasy. The fried rice was enjoyable but I wish there weren't so many shredded lettuce roots in it and the shrimp more thoroughly cleaned. I really need to eat non-Americanized Chinese food at Chinese restaurants more often. Shame on me, but I like what I like!

Samantha G.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. We always order carry out and never have an issue. The staff here is pretty fast and the restaurant usually has a crowd. Even when we are eating inside the restaurant, service is quick! Would recommend east pearl. Our favorites here are the roast pork, deep fried squid, wonton soup, and the pan fried noodles!

Rachel R.

Yelp
Delicious duck! Everything is delicious. I had egg drop soup, spring rolls and Peking Duck. Had so much left over. Throw the duck in the air fryer and viola another two meals. Totally worth it and will be back soon.

Natalie H.

Yelp
Ate on Christmas Day and place was packed including a lot of Chinese - usually a sign the restaurant is authentic! Ordered the Hong Kong spicy dumplings (delicious - pork and shrimp and not too spicy), Peking duck (husband loved), beef chow fun (can be wet or dry - ordered it dry which is how most restaurants serve it - very delicious), sweet and sour chicken (crispy chicken and sauce not too sweet), and veggie fried rice (decent but needed more veggies). Ambience very basic cafeteria and most tables have lazy Susans so obvious the focus is on the food here. Pleasantly surprised how good everything was and looking forward to our next visit where I'm going to try the highly rated seafood dishes.

Matthew O.

Yelp
East Pearl is a solid restaurant for authentic Cantonese cuisine in the Rockville area. They have a large and varied menu and they execute the dishes well. While the decor may seem outdated and service can be hit or miss, the focus is to come for the food. Dishes such as the wok stir-fried pea shoots have that delicious high heat wok flavor that goes perfectly with a bowl of white rice. The fried tofu is perfectly golden brown on the outside while being pillowy soft on the inside. Overall, a good place to go for a meal!

Tiara U.

Yelp
The food is okay, but what is disturbing is a waitress coughing without covering mouth! The management should always insist the server to masked when coughing!

Angelica D.

Yelp
THE PLACE TO COME!!!!!! You know a place is legit when overstock bulk items are placed in a corner of the restauraWe came on a Tuesday night at 9 PM and one of waitresses let us in. She was honestly the sweetest and told us to come in because the food is "definitely better than Wendys." LOL. The food came out SO QUICKLY! Steaming hot, flavorful, and delicious. I'm coming back to explore other items on the menu!!

Amanda H.

Yelp
Still the best Cantonese restaurant in the area. Good food, service, and prices all-around

Madelyne V.

Yelp
Amazing Chinese restaurant. Had many of the traditional Chinese American dishes, as well as some Chinese authentic dishes. Everything is delicious and well seasoned without being too heavy on the soy sauce. I tried the beef lo mein, which was amazing. I also tried the shrimp and vegetables to have some veggie intake, and it was great.

Yelp
WARNING... It's courtesy for restaurant to give out boxes for leftover foods to take home, instead this restaurant started charging 6 box for $1.50 and 0.5 cent for plastic bag. This's our first experience ever have to pay each box to take our leftovers foods home. They're so greedy, now they want to pass on the supplies cost to customers on top of their already high price foods cost. They definitely loss their old time client, good luck to your new policy! NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Yelp
If you want authentic Cantonese cuisine, this is a great place for you. Don't come here for ambiance or excellent service though, this is just good old home style dishes. I bring my own MSG since the haters ruined that for everyone, and singled out Asian chefs to take it out of their dishes (note: it's still in plenty of American classics (Mcd's, Popeyes, Cheetos etc). Anyways, here it amps up the tastes of a few slightly underseasoned dishes. Portions could be bigger is my only gripe. favorites here include: stir fried clams with black bean sauce, roast duck, mixed meat chow mein, Chinese watercress, and congee.

Yelp
This is the most authentic Chinese restaurant I've been to in over 15 years. They even serve hot tea at the table! The food taste like it's made with love and passion for Chinese cuisine . I didn't need to ask for any modifications, it was made just how I wanted it to taste. The rice was moist and sticky too the service was very good, and the staff clearly love servicing and working together. It was nice to see them enjoy a meal as a team. Every time I go in there, it's packed so clearly others know how good it is. Since going there for the first time a month ago, I go at least 2-3 time a month and it's like 20mins from my house. Once you go, you can't stop!

Yelp
Food is authentic Cantonese. Portions are soooo small now. Service is meh. Gets busy and the parking sucks majorly!!! 2.5 stars.

Yelp
The waitresses are extremely rude. Agreed with other reviews. It's beyond bad. They talked nasty things about their customers in their native language. The food is forgettable. The ambiance is ok but not comfortable with those bad waitresses around. Better Cantonese food and services in the area. These waitresses are torturing your customers who pay you real money. They act like the customers are begging them to get free food. Why do the customers get yelled at while paying bills for you? Again, bad reviews represent only a small % of my total reviews. Move on to another adventure tomorrow. Please replace your existing waitresses with those who want the job a lot more, more energetic, and more friendly. Please let them retire and stay home for the sake of human beings. Don't be surprised to see that your customers are slowly moving away because of your staff. Just to give you a heads up.

Yelp
Been here a few times before but during my most recent visit, the food was extremely oily and leaves a bad feeling in you the next day. Will be continuing my search for a decent Chinese restaurant in the DMV..

Yelp
This place is great! Our friends took us to this place for cantonese food while we visited them in Rockville MD. Exceeded my expectations from the raucous greeting of hustling waiters, no frills, smells of eats in large portions, and roasted ducks hanging at a corner booth that all felt like some time warp shift to a loud Hong Kong/ Cantonese restaurant. We got the Yee Noodles- which the waitress was hesitant on fulfilling the order at first saying we wouldn't like the texture. My other friends thought it was ok, but I was fascinated. This noodle is fried first before then cooking it in soup. The result is an airy texture that has the oils from the fried but a soaked through in the soup without destroying the integrity of the noodle itself bc the fried oil part had made the noodle impervious to a mush. I liked this dish and honestly would order it in the future because of its texture and uniqueness that I've not found in other restaurants Ordered the fried beef rice noodles- a good solid dish that requires a high heat and copious oil to separate the noodles all without having it too mushy. The eggplant dish was also well done too- one can't go wrong with a good garlic eggplant dish. A no frills place but I would come back here again if I were to visit Rockville.

Yelp
Good food and service, but parking was difficult as the place was crowded. **************************+*****

Yelp
I've ordered food from East Pearl a couple times now, and finally getting around to writing a review for the restaurant. My experience here has always been good, both food and service wise. During my most recent visit we got the seafood pan fried noodles (N12), whole peking duck (C14), two orders of the ginger scallion lobster, and beef fried rice (FR4). Yes, this was all for two adults and two small children. Don't judge! Was it a lot of food? Yes. We had leftovers for days. Was ordering all this food worth it? Yes, it definitely was! My favorite dish ordered was essentially a tie between the lobster and duck. The ginger scallion lobster not only contained a good amount of lobster meat chunks, it had good flavor as well. I like how you could easily pull the meat from the shell. The ginger scallion sauce was not super thick, coated the lobster shell well, and complimented the lobster meat well. The peking duck had a thin, crispy skin and was juicy. It came with so many steamed buns, definitely way more than we needed. I actually would have preferred to wrap the peking duck in pancakes, though. The pan fried noodles were pretty good. I haven't had this dish in forever, and after having it here, remembered how much I enjoy this noodle dish. Even when mixed with the sauce (came in a separate container which I appreciated), the noodles remained slightly crunchy. I like how it came topped with a generous amount of seafood and vegetables. Although good, the beef fried rice was pretty standard. I'd order it again, though.
