12 Houston Spots Made for Drinking and Golf

"Dreading playing a full 18 holes? Divided into four zones with an 80- to 150-yard, link-style short course, this East End/Firth Ward hotspot features a driving range and a massive 12,000-square-foot social putting green, plus an area for pickleball to switch things up. The onsite Riverhouse restaurant and bar, which handles the food and drinks for the golf course, is the perfect place to fuel up, with burgers and sandwiches like the Crispy Hotbird — a spicy buttermilk-marinated chicken breast sandwich topped with heirloom tomatoes and pickles, and a Brussels sprouts and kale slaw. More chef-driven mains include the pan-seared Norwegian salmon, which is glazed with citrus and herb beurre blanc. Take a break and enjoy a drink or two on the expansive outdoor terrace, which overlooks the course and the Downtown skyline, or grab a beer bucket and keep putting along." - Sean Hekmat

Course was challenging and in great shape. Greens were really some of the nicest greens I've seen for a par 3 course and were rolling excellent. Beautiful place with a nice back drop of the Houston skyline. Range was closed the day I was there but practice green was in nice shape. Ate a legacy burger in the bar after the round. Burger was delicious but quite pricey at $22. Bar atmosphere was nice with several TV's for sports viewing. Overall a fun outing.

Google
Play every week at many courses and every other week our favorite happy hour golf is East River 9. Staff is awesome, I play from a wheelchair and they could not be more supportive. This is our go-to fun spot! Not too mention they have pickleball courts, great food and a bar with an excellent view of downtown!

Google
I truly enjoyed the experience. The GM is so friendly and TALL! I adore him. Shout out to the Executive Chef, Napo, everything was wonderful. Thanks again!

Google
Fun place!! The course was decently well kept and players/staff were all friendly. It was a little fuzzy sometimes which way to the next hole and I’ll say it was a bit expensive for what it was. But the bar/restaurant were very cool and they had live music. Great views of downtown. Would recommend.

Google
Just took my Family to brunch here. Definitely can say it’s not worth the $45/person price tag. It was advertised as a brunch buffet with seafood and waffle stations. The seafood station only had two types of shrimp, no crab as advertised or other staples like oyster, ceviche….I could go on. The waffle station was one guy making plain waffles. The only topping offered was cheap corn syrup. No other topping in sight until we asked multiple times. What bugged us the most was the poor hygiene of the buffet. None the shrimp was iced properly (just tossed a few cubes when it would melt down from being next to the burners), and when they did finally bring out some strawberries they put them in a crowded section next the the heated omelette skillets and uncooled shrimp. I could also tell that the omelette chefs where using the same skillets to cook the eggs and shrimp. Last but not least we picked up multiple dirty plates from the start. Over all this place is good to hit a few balls of catch a 9-hole game with a bucket of beer. But definitely I would skip this brunch, better off spending your money at Hugo’s, or honestly Golden Corral. At least you would have better options for 1/4 of the price.

A chill spot to come with a group, enjoy the view of Houston’s downtown skyscrapers, hit the golf ball or play pickleball. Had our gym Christmas gathering here and enjoyed the service and atmosphere of East River 9. The lemon pepper wings were a little greasy but had a very good flavor and was fried to perfection. My only complaint is the infused old fashion drink. Which was an old fashion with the ball of ice infused with the Orange and walnut bitters. My friend and I ordered one and my drink was barely half way filled while hers was almost filled more than half way.

I normally go to this establishment here & there but the reasons I go is because I have attended for ESPN 97.5 for the road remotes & every time I go its never a dull moment. My only draw back is due to the location its hard to get public Wi-fi since they lack towers unless one has a Hotspot on the phones which I don't have. The food is pretty good & one can get a nice view of Downtown from the distance & depending on the weather the views can be interesting from time to time. The employees who work there as also pretty nice & are interactive, I recommend it if you do play golf or not

Google
This course was fun and I will definitely be back. The pro shop had some great merchandise too. They have Pickleball courts too. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I also enjoyed the view of downtown Houston!

Yelp
East River 9 is a nice, outdoorsy establishment that offers Pickleball and Golf. For our visit, we opted for the Pickleball experience, which may require a reservation to ensure that you have an opportunity to play depending on the time of day and weather. From my friend's prior experience (with East River 9 being booked and busy) she made a two hour reservation in advance for our Pickleball session. Unfortunately, we came at time when it was prime time heat time (at least it sure did feel like it) on a Saturday (which I definitely wouldn't recommend), however, we still had a grand time. As it pertains to cost, the two hour session was about $85, which was approximately $21 (if you have four people) per person. One thing to note is that East River 9 also allows for you to rent paddles and balls for about $7, in the event that you don't own paddles or balls. The court is fairly nice and there is a covered seating area with fans that is close to the court. Additionally, they have water coolers strategically placed outside. There is also a restaurant a few steps away from the court (disclaimer, I didn't have the opportunity to try the food here). To sum it all up, a goodT, active time was had here!

Yelp
Perfect combo of Pickleball and food. This facility has several outdoor pickleball courts, a golf course and a gift shop. The staff is friendly and it's a nice place to get a few games in of whatever you like to play and then wrap the day up with good food and drinks. The on-site restaurant has both an indoor and outdoor seating area and superb food. The service was so so, but we didn't have a large group, so perhaps that slowed things down more than usual. Besides that no complaints and I would recommend reserving a court for a round of pickleball and some food.
google avatar

Huyen C.

Yelp
Decided to get a few people together to play pickle ball at East River. It cost about $50 to rent a court for an hour, and divided by a group, was a decent price. Not gonna lie, it was empty, so we were able to play in two courts, which was nice! The employees were super kind and helpful too. Weather was great. Prior to playing pickleball, my husband and his friend got some golf balls and hit a bit before our scheduled pickleball court time! Definitely come check it out on a Friday night. Nice food, drinks and especially if the weather is nice, it's an awesome time.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here to play pickle ball with my family and friends, and it was such a great time. There are several courts that you can reserve ahead of time and you can bring your own balls and paddles or rent them if you don't have any. They have lights you can play at night or during the day. The skyline is Houston is so gorgeous to watch as you play pickle ball. It's nice that they have a restaurant at the golf course as well for drinks and food. I had a great time playing pickle ball here and while I haven't played golf, I'm sure it would also be a great time.

Yelp
Great staff. Family friendly. Golf range, putting green, course, pickleball courts, and restaurant/bar amazing!

Yelp
We came here for a work happy hour and enjoyed their indoor bar space - they have a great patio as well, but the June weather was not super inviting. We ordered several shared apps for the table and lots of drinks; they have your typical bar items - beer, wine, cocktails, soda, frozens...something for everyone. The apps were good; we especially enjoyed the loaded nachos and buffalo wings. Can't wait to come back here in the Fall/winter to take advantage of their patio and amazing downtown view. Lots of parking on site, but even that filled up later in the evening, so you may have to circle a bit to find a spot.

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of EaDo is this fun lil place. There's plenty of free parking. You walk up and to the left is the restaurant/bar and to the right is the pro shop. We came to check out the restaurant, ordered the nachos which is a new item on the menu. The nachos are deliscious, light crispy chips with melted cheese and chicken and brisket. We also ordered the blackened red snapper tacos, which were light and tasty. Food is really good but a lil pricey. Happy hour until 7pm included $3 beer of the day and $6 margaritas. Would like to return to try out their Crawfish which is offered after 2pm an Saturday and Sunday. Would also like to return for some golfing.

Cooper W.

Yelp
They recently redid the driving range mats which was much needed. They very randomly close the driving range and need to start updating their website when that's the case. I've driven all the way over here like 4 times just for it to be closed for no reason - call before

Yelp
Pickleball is America's newest pastime and I'm on the train baby, choo choo. I've been playing since last summer and really enjoyed it, but my friends weren't super interested YET but now they're starting to come around. You'd be surprised but I'm actually very competitive and although I'm not a pro, it's a fun recreational sport I'm decent at! I like the sport of pickle. East River 9 is beeeeautiful. Like stunnin'. I don't play golf but if I did I feel like this would be the place? It's a 9 hole course. Ummmmmmm-- based on my limited knowledge that's shorter than a regular course. So fun, easy, quick time. That's good, efficient! Bonus there is a lot of people here. Variations of people. Major eye candy. We booked online for a 7pm court but got there and supposedly the computers were being weird idk, but luckily we were able to get a court still. You go into the Pro Shop, btw. It's $40 for an hour of play. If you're playing doubles that's an easy $10/pp. With Houston's limited courts *in the loop* it seems like that's the best ima get. Some parks are converting their tennis courts but Houston feels like it's behind. I digress, this was really fun. Great little sports action. Everyone around us was lovely and when the next group of people were ready to use the court we gathered our things and left them to it. Honor system I guess There's a restaurant also at East River. Very smart move on their part. Made for good post-game beers, didn't try any food. 4/5 just because there's still seems to be kinks in their booking system and it's not super clear where you're supposed to go check in once arriving etc.

Yelp
This is an amazing place to hit the range bc of the beautiful views! The course is nice!

Yelp
This is a neat par 3 executive 9 hole course with amazing views of the Houston skyline. They even have LED lights for nighttime play. There are no golf carts but it's an easy walk and they have pull carts. Hole distances range between 80 and 150 yards - great for working on your short game. There's a driving range, pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor dining, and live music on the weekends. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because compared to other Houston public traditional 18 hole courses, it's relatively expensive. Prices range from $36 to $48 for 9 holes; not 18. It's still worth a try, especially if you don't have time for a full round. It's also a fun place to come for just dinner and a view.

Yelp
The smoked club & fries were great, along with the pineapple bourbon wings. The outdoor atmosphere is great as well.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this place! We hosted a charity event here yesterday and everything from the staff, to the Pickleball pro, to the food was top notch! They really made our event so special and we are so thankful for the experience! The tacos were great and our guests have been texting all day about them!

Yelp
18 hole (9 East and 9 River) course in EaDo off of Clinton and Hirsch. Not a fantastic or safe area to be honest; it's right by the dump of a river we call the bayou and half a mile from the wastewater plant and in an area that's heavily being gentrified with lots of road construction. Needless to say, it is a convenient and beginner friendly course, with a driving range adjacent to it. Prices range from $30-50 depending on time of day.
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
Best 9 hole in Houston night and day. Food is good and on the weekends offer live music.
google avatar

Tim J.

Yelp
Loveliest view with a great restaurant. Good food, drinks and a fantastic way to get some golf in without 4 and hour hours of Houston humidity. We got 9 holes in about an hour and was sitting in the restaurant. I would love to go back soon!

James F.

Yelp
50 bucks is already way to much to play this course. Now I wanted to give it another shot, called to make sure tre times are available, lady on phone said yes, raced up there in 30 mins and they say they completely booked. I'm in the park in lot lookin at the course and see one person playing. I recommend your backyard with a net over this place any day. Fuck this place

Alberto A.

Yelp
Golf and pickle ball great experience and great for the area. The restaurant needs serious help The Caesar was bland and the prices are off Paid $14 for 6 pieces of not well cooked cauliflower "wings" the price is the same as chicken wings!??? Since when is cauliflower the same cost as chicken wings I don't think inflation is that high! But the bad part was the amount of flies on the patio was very bad and disgusting we couldn't eat in piece and just was not good I went to the back of the patio to see their dock area and the trash can was full and opened and area was dirty and disorganized I bet they will have other pest soon if not controlled . I hope they fix this because this is a great business for the area

Yelp
What a great place and concept. The views were awesome and the golf and pickle ball combo was perfect. The Guzzlers band was playing and they sounded great. What a great place to enjoy outdoor entertainment.

Yelp
Today bitter experience because I actually had a good time with my friends. And I'm usually not one to leave reviews but after reading on here this seems to be a reoccurring thing, I feel obligated because nothing is changed in 3months to up the security. After my round of golf, I came back to my truck to find my truck broken into with thousands of dollars worth of stuff stolen. In the middle of the day around noon. The lot wasn't even half full. And between 2-3 security guards no one seen a thing while the theif busted my window, climbed in my truck, search through everything and had time to climb out and leave. I don't doubt for a sec this was an inside job. Golfers don't come to play and rob people. Someone watched me put my bag in the back seat. And they knew there are no security cameras anywhere. Minutes later my iPad was turned on a mile away from the course. Notified by the find my device app. Pissed is putting it nicely. We were really looking forward to night golfing here. But no way this place can be trusted at night if they can't maintain a safe place in the middle of the day.

Frank H.

Yelp
The atmosphere and golf is great, but the service at the food area needs to be improved. I've eaten there 4 times and every time the service is less than expected.
google avatar

Simone L.

Yelp
Great concept with a great atmosphere. My only complaint is that they're dog friendly but didn't offer heaters on the patio for dinning in the colder months. According to staff they were broken. Sadly, I did not try the food here due to it being too cold to dine outside and me having to leave because I had my dog with me. If they could have more accommodations during the colder months then they would have gotten 5 stars.

Mark H.

Yelp
A few of us from our spin class decided to have an "out of class" field trip Saturday and selected East River 9 (our spin instructor is familiar with the business). Another classmate and I visited with the venue ahead of time, told them we'd have about 15 mostly for socializing (i.e. drinking...haha). We dawdled and didn't get a pickleball court, but will next time. Everyone had a great time. Just terrific. Our server, Lauren, made sure everyone got what they needed. The weather cooperated (though we stayed inside) and the view of downtown Houston was fantastic. We'll definitely be back in some form or another. What a unique and fun venue!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun Just pure FUN! There's plenty to observe here. If you ou haven't been to the East End lately...you're missing out!

Brian D.

Yelp
I went to hit balls. They have the best quality range balls around. stay for the beer and game too, neat atmosphere and super views of Downtown!!

Sarah C.

Yelp
Had the worst experience here ever. Food is just ok, beer glasses would be better to keep the beer cold (using plastic). Wings suck. Would not recommend based on the staff and "supporting management." Had an unfortunate and unforgettable event happen to me here and the management promised to get back to me and "make it right" - they did not. Reminded them of our phone call the following day and it went ignored. Still have not heard back a month later. Very unfortunate to see such a great facility not be supported by the appropriate staff/ management. Hopefully someone new gets in there and saves it bc it's such a great spot but I personally will never be back based on the way the current management chose to neglect to their good customers.

Francisca R.

Yelp
Beautiful view & kid friendly. Easy, quick and fun 9 holes. 6 Pickle ball counts. Cornhole and ping pong available for free as well.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
Food is EXSPENSIVE, not sure who they cater too. Maybe ripping off out of towners. Many other restaurants on the Eastside are affordable.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Taylor is the best server ever. Has so much knowledge on the menu and even helped with my golf game. True professional

Maria L.

Yelp
Love love love this place!! I have been coming here pretty regularly since they opened and I enjoy knowing that I can get a good round of golf in, in a fraction of the time it would take on a real golf course. I have never had a bad experience here, and all of the staff is so pleasant, Melissa the manager is the absolute sweetest, she is very warm and welcoming and ensures that all of your needs are taken care of no matter how big or small they may be. She is the best!! Highly recommend y'all check out ER9!

Luna Q.

Yelp
Learning how to golf here! Very new to golf, but this place is full of ladies so I don't feel anxious.

Ronald C.

Yelp
This is mainly for the golf amenities. Its nice overall. Small pro shop, larger dining area, plenty of seating inside and out. Complimentary short tees and divot tool(no excuses; fix your pitch marks)! 6 Pickleball courts; looks freshly surfaced. Range is full-sized, at least 20 spots to hit from; only small(8$-40ish balls) and large ($12- 100 balls) baskets. Six Distance markers all ideal yardages to aim; with rangefinder back distance marker gave me about 230 yds and there was maybe another 40-50 yards behind that until the net. Actual course: Grass everywhere. Plus. Two tees, River(back) and East(front). Yardages on hole markers are accurate assuming you are hitting from there. There are mats slightly back that will add 10-15 yards to your shot easily. Sand to fill divots. Plus. Greens are slightly on the firm side but roll pretty true. Was a bit sandy on my visit, but seeing the previous rain we got and how those before me didnt repair their pitch or ball marks, its understandable. I would recommend playing safe shots depending on your skill level, wind, and the pin location(if its changes; all same flag color(red)). Holes 4,5 & 8 create a mini intersection with hole 4&8 actually sharing a two -tier green. I hit an errant shot on 8 that was taken by wind and landed in front of hole 5 tee area, which hits in the opposite direction. (Just imagine if more people were out playing...) I can imagine the Hole 1 river tee, on a busy night, can be both intimidating and distracting seeing its right there in front of the shop and lounge area. Only critiques I have of the venue is that the Music is a bit loud; especially with them attached to poles less than 30ft away from where you are hitting from. Also, while there are markers guiding you, a pathway of maybe two or three mowers lengths wide to provide a clearer, even path to walk between holes (mainly 5-8) would be better. Nice atmosphere overall though. Would like to see it in the Spring time.

Lanzo G.

Yelp
I probably had the worst experience ever I would never come back or ever recommend this place to anyone that I know it's very unprofessional, very dirty and I think I seen a couple rats and cockroaches

Joshua M.

Yelp
How about we throw a little update up on the website if the driving range is closed and save me 40 minutes round trip of driving. thanks

Rob H.

Yelp
Very nice place and view of the city. Food was good! Bar was cool and staff made us feel welcome! Will definitely come back!

Tyson P.

Yelp
Nothing is consistent. SUPER AVERAGE. The food and drinks are over priced for what you are getting. You can't charge country club pricing and serve average bar food just because there is a 9-hole course in the back. Not to mention I went and there was a dog coming out of the kitchen. Literally. The wait staff were petting it all. After speaking with management about it, I was told it was a stray and they well helping him. you don't say. What was I thinking? Considering my own health over a stray in your kitchen.

Charles O.

Yelp
Nice facility but beware of thieves. Got my set stolen from the bag rack after a round. No help from the management either in offering to review security footage to file a report.
google avatar

Danielle R.

Yelp
Beautiful place! Food was delicious and the service we received from Ana was great! Perfect spot to relax with a scenic view of the downtown skyline.

Jesse S.

Yelp
love this location. visiting from oregon and it's a dream. only weird things? it would be nice if it was clear on the site when it's grass versus the mat on the driving range. wednesday, thursday, saturday and sunday are the grass days. also, lyft or uber is a nightmare with the wrong address and the multiple closed entrances. Can this be fixed with maps? again, dope ass place and all the right things going on here.

Austin L.

Yelp
Service is great. Golf is great. And the mayonnaise is absolutely mouth watering. 10/10 would recommend.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We played pickleball and had a great time. The view of downtown is perfect! I can't wait to go back on cool evening night
