Best Brewery Eats in San Diego

"Brand new Duck Food Brewing Co.’s East Village location has a full gluten-free menu developed by chef Stevan Novoa. On the menu are items that should contain gluten but, thanks to his prowess, taste just as good as the original, like a basket of Brazilian pão de queijo. The rest of the menu is comprised of small plates, desserts, salads and other snacks." - Jackie Bryant

Nice brewery place offering Lagers, IPAs and other beers, including wine. This place has both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar. It is dog friendly and they even give your pet treats. Next to Padres Stadium, multiple monitors available for watching the games. Bar trendy was super friendly and knowledgeable.

Google
It might have been just one of the top breweries in the town. But the bartender lady deserves an additional star. I had great beer there and I had great fun there. Great experience.

Google
Excellent Beer, & great brewery tour! We enjoyed a casual, but very interesting & educational tour here. My husband sampled several beers that were produced on-site, & each had unique qualities drawn from the locally-sourced ingredients. Aaron was a wonderful tour guide, tailoring his tour according to the knowledge of his audience. We spoke with him after the tour & were grateful for his willingness to share his experience as a brewery proprietor. Highly recommend!

Google
The single best brewery in San Diego. New beer every week with a wide variety. You’ll love it. But above all, the service and atmosphere is amazing. It is a modern day Cheers, a place where everyone knows your name. Go here before a game or when your in East Village. It’s amazing.

Google
East Village Brewing: A 5-Star Gem! This place is fantastic! The beer selection is diverse and delicious, with something for every palate. The atmosphere is chill and inviting, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a relaxing evening. But what truly sets East Village Brewing apart is their incredible staff. James and Dana were absolutely awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. They made our visit truly memorable. Highly recommend!

Google
Great place to get a drink before the game. I had the Flight of the Peach and the Intepid and they were both crisp and refreshing. The outdoor seating was perfect and comfortable for catching up with friends. The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations since this was my first time visiting.

Google
East Village Brewing Co. is a great spot near Petco Park. The perfect for grabbing a drink before or after a game. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of seating both inside and out. The beer selection is solid, with a good mix of hoppy IPAs, crisp lagers, and some creative seasonal options. The three I tried was fresh and well-crafted. Service was friendly and efficient, even with a decent crowds. My only small grip is that it can get a bit loud and busy during peak times, but that’s to be expected given the location. Overall, a great brewery with a fun vibe and quality beers—I’ll definitely be back!

Google
10/10 ambiance ! Great vibes ! Great staff ! Delicious brews ! Would totally come here again ! Alan and James are fantastic !

Yelp
A lovely neighborhood brewery, really friendly staff. Large outdoor patio in the shade. Dog friendly. They serve wine too. An outdoor burger tent is almost always set up, pretty good food.

Yelp
Super chill vibe. Came in on a Saturday evening and it was not super busy. It does get busy though when there are events or the Padres are in town. The server in the brewery was so nice and very friendly. She let us sample some beers to help us decide what we wanted. I ended up going with the cider and it was crisp, tart and dry, just how ciders should be. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
Very shiny beer tanks is the first thing I noticed. Service with James was so kind and very friendly. Stopped in with a friend and it was a great experience. I'm a local and my second time in with my dog. Definitely will be back.

Yelp
This microbrew beer is fresh and delicious. The waitstaff is friendly and kind. The wine list is good. It's very comfortable and we will come again.

Yelp
Fresh beer - PLEASE brew Ballpark Lager forever. Chill ambiance, with a fire pit and patio, Bonehead Burger is delicious. And especially love it when Dayna gets so excited when we walk in the front door.

Yelp
Love supporting local! Opened about a year ago but took me awhile to pop in. Wish i had earlier. Everyone is so friendly. The place is bright and clean. Cute outside area. Beers are delicious!

Yelp
Impressive for a 1yr old brewery to be winning a Gold Medal at The Great American Beer festival (GBAF) in the Historical Beer category! Come for their Izola Kvass and stay for the imperial stout ;) Very friendly and helpful service. Love the atmosphere here. Great place to hang out and grab a few beers. They don't have their own growlers yet but will fill yours if you bring it! They have a table for 8 and multiple 6 seater tables indoors. More seating outdoors too but I came at night so I didn't go out there. Good for groups and their pups!
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Oh so fine of beer and wonderful atmosphere. Great place to hang and even get some remote work done. What a treasure.

Yelp
As a self proclaimed beer connoisseur and having visited a ton of breweries around the world, this place stands out as one of the best - exceptional! The beers are clean with outstanding hop expression, wow! If you have a chance to visit, please do, the beers are amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
They had a beer strength kvass which was pretty interesting. It's a beverage I grew up drinking a bit and the best description I have of it is Russian root beer. It's usually kombucha strength so it was interesting to have it as a full on boozy beverage. I liked it and if they sold it in SF I'd probably buy it, certainly so my dad could at least try it.

Dc F.

Yelp
IPAs were good but seemed to have a bit of a sweetness to them. Not really my thing, but not bad. The place was clean and looked nice, but to me had the ambiance of a bar with the look of a cool brewery. The guy at the counter was nice and helpful. We stopped by mid day on a Friday, and stayed for one drink.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Good beer and dog friendly. What else could you want? Tried the coconut brown ale and the Kvass both were great

Yelp
I've heard a lots of good things about this brewery and was not disappointed, very nice and cozy ambiance , beer was fantastic, everything tasted so fresh and crisp and James was super friendly and helpful, overall great experience and I will be back for sure .

Yelp
Great place! For all you Padres fans! Brandon is super nice and knowledgeable. We will definitely be back!!

Victoria P.

Yelp
Love this place! The ambiance is amazing & there are always new beers to try! The cider is also one of the best I've ever had.

Phil P.

Yelp
Nice vibe and great selection! Service was awesome too! Came on a Friday night, but there was still a lot of room.

Bobby C.

Yelp
Cool spot with a chill atmosphere. Good food and beer. Defintely worth coming in to check out. Cheers

Yelp
I've frequented plenty of breweries on the west coast, and I have a handful of favorites but East Village is another level. I literally have not have a bad beer from them, and that's especially impressive since they typically drop a new beer a week. The owners are great, always happy to geek out with you. The staff is friendly and attentive, makes it feel like your hanging at a friends house. I just cannot speak highly enough of this place. An absolute gem among the already incredible SD brewing scene.

Christi Y.

Yelp
Love the beer! But also great location, lovely staff and chill vibe. Definitely don't forget them before or after a Padres game too!

Allison J.

Yelp
I love coming here!! It's been such a pleasure. Everyone is awesome but my favorite Beertender is Rocker James and I have such a great time when he's there. Always pleasant, funny and attentive. It's a relaxing place with good music.

claudia o.

Yelp
The service was terrible, I forgot if I had closed my tab and the guy told me "yeah you did close your tab you did not trip me! Get the fuck out of here!" I was so shocked by the disrespect of him. I had only ordered one drink and closed and his rude/disrespectfulness. He should not be working in customer service. Once it was 10 pm he shit the music off and I overheard someone point that out he told the customer "yeah we closed we need to get you all out of here!" The customer said that is rude.. this guy should find another job! Will never return here bad service!!! The worst experience ever! Would not recommend!

Hanny F.

Yelp
Tried the Izola Kvass, wow if you like caramel and New Castle or Bass type beers. Very friendly service.

Ryan J.

Yelp
Overall great, beer tender was very friendly and offered a splash to help my decision. Also, let me know about $6 pint for earth day. Awesome ambiance.

Yelp
Love the brewery and beer! It's the only craft brewery I know of walking distance from the convention center. So it's perfect for events like Comic Con, if you want to escape the chaos a bit and experience some of the San Diego craft beer culture (especially if you don't have a car). The Off the Tracks Hazy IPA, the Sandlot, and their oatmeal stout are my favorites! The staff is also very friendly!
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Fantastic variety of creative and unique beers, all tasty. Enjoyed talking with the owners and learning about the beers. Prices were modest and samples gracious. One of my new favorites.

Melissa D.

Yelp
I celebrated my birthday there recently with a group of us and they were very accommodating. The service is excellent, the place is gorgeous which is right in the center of east village, a very up and coming neighborhood right by the ballpark. I didn't catch the beertender and manager's name but they excelled on the service that evening accommodating my group and making great beer suggestions based on what they like. The beer is very fresh as they tap from the actual beer tank which I thought was super neat. Being a part of this industry I love to see the beer community grow and put out their best product and service. Will definitely be coming back and if you're ever around the neighborhood or before a padres game, stop by and have a beer. They also have cider and wine which is good for people that want variety

Yelp
As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Thomas. He was very helpful and provided us with helpful suggestions. Definitely a nice place to grab a beer.

Yelp
Through the years the many states that have created their own brewing companies and through the year the race for beer was in full swing the days of the cowboys that you had seen the old-style beer machines and over the years beer became frothier and the age of the bottle went into full swing. Beer has a very long line of history from the Germans and the French and the Russians than the American had picked it up in between but the race for beer had gone into full swing. Over the many years you can find many beer imports and some of the great imports but there is one thing what is better from the can or from the brewery that has been freshly brewed and has been aged. Many people would say is that they like the beer from the can or many would say they prefer the draft the one beer I do prefer is the freshly made beer that you can find at a brewery that has just opened and the many tanks and the sounds of the machines that gives you the whole picture to know the brewery is to taste the many beers that they have on tap. Village brewery the Inside was that of great place to have a beer and to relax with friends and coworkers there is no kids allowed this brewery pub that has the close location to the ballpark and the great overlook of the ocean with food eateries that are in a great spot in the East Village. The welcome atmosphere at the East Village Brewery is like when you walk into Cheers you don't hear Hey Norm to have a place where you can go and have a great beer and to enjoy an evening to see what a great looking brewery looks like and the staff they have there. For many that have ever been a brewery that has great artwork that decorates the Interior and has a great welcome feel to it many places that you find can be ones that are smoke filled and the smell of dirty carpets. East village is one that outpaces many breweries here in the San Diego Area and the atmosphere of the East is one with a great beer you also have great flavors to have the public taste and to know what great fresh beer tastes like. This location as an Elite Reviewer may I say its one of the best to be in San Diego and the welcome atmosphere one of the best .

Nikhita P.

Yelp
Great service and free tasters l, I will definitely be coming back. I came here with my coworkers after the padres game and we had great time.

Yelp
Great beer and ambiance! Fun bartenders! If you are in east village for a ball game stop in!

Brenda H.

Yelp
The beer was great across the board. Clean, crisp great tasting beer. Their winter selection gave you a twist on their based beer for a great comparison experience. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable. This will definitely be on our come back to next time we are in the area. Definitely a smaller name brewery that needs to be shared.

Yelp
First impression was great! Came here during one of their first days (8/25/22 - potentially the soft opening). It is nestled in the base of the Park 12 apartment complex across the street from 7-11. This means it is super close for all of the residents of the Ballpark neighborhood especially Park 12 and Alexan. Everyone was really nice. They were just getting started so they had only 5 beer options, but I tried the Bee Patient which was a golden honey ale. I am not much of a beer drinker to be honest, but it was quite tasty. They have a nice small patio where you can do some pretty interesting people watching. The trolley line is nearby so if you frequent this area you know what I mean. The patio is dog friendly so that is also a plus. They also have some seating indoors at tables and at the bar. You can also get a view of all of the beer brewing equipment which is always fun for a tasting room. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. I hope they carry at least 1 or two non beer options (cider, hard tea, Seltzer, wine) as they get moving, but i am still happy with this addition.

Yelp
I love our neighborhood brewery! The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is friendly, and they have a fantastic selection of unique beers. Whether you're a beer connoisseur or just looking for a great place to unwind, EVB has it all. I can't recommend it enough! Cheers to good times in our community.

Erica R.

Yelp
The beer is amazing! Super unique and delicious. Plus they change it up all the time so you can try different things! They also have yummy cider and wines if you're not a beer drinker. Great atmosphere, burger truck on site, and right across from the padres stadium! Amazing location, we had a great time

Yelp
Gabf gold medal winner with Kvass, a delicious style! Interesting selection, well beyond the 100 ipas every brewery has.

Yelp
I visited SD for a quick weekend, and on the first day went to five breweries including The East Village Brewing Co. At each brewery, my partner and I tracked our unofficial scores for 1. Space/location, 2. Service, and 3. Beer. The East Village Brewing Co was the highest rated in each individual category (and obviously overall). The space was incredibly CLEAN, and has comfortable furniture. It has an upscale brewery vibe with the brewing tanks, concrete, and posh (not stodgy) furniture. There are two outdoor spaces, and they are DOG-FRIENDLY in and outside. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Co-owner/brewer, Aaron, gave great descriptions of the beers, and answered all of our questions. He seems to be truly excited about the beer they are making (and for good reason). I tried about eight beers at The East Village Brewing Co (comparing to 20 from the four other breweries I visited in SD) and the FORTUNA LAGER was my favorite from all of the beers, but all were enjoyable at East Village with a great VARIETY for any palette. We had such a good time here, that when we saw they were having a corn hole tournament the next day, we decided to sign up. We spent a good chunk of our very short trip to visit SD at this place, and it was the best time. My one complaint is the bathroom faucets are high tech with motion sensors and I found them tricky to turn off. Tldr; five stars.

Aaron S.

Yelp
good beer! great location and close to the stadium. lager was great lots of seating indoors and outdoors

Yelp
Awesome place to grab a beer! Friendly staff and a fun environment! Love this brewery and their beer!

Steve S.

Yelp
I came here on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. The bar tender was awesome and knew his beers. He recommended a few things I wouldn't normally get and all four beers were awesome. All high quality, true to their origin and very tasty....IPAs, pilsener and a fest beer. He even threw in one for free since he knew I was a beer guy. I'm from Boston where we have some of the best breweries in the country and I was very impressed here. I'd highly recommend it. I sat on the patio, drank some really good beers and did some emails. A perfect afternoon!

Nicky P.

Yelp
Hands down the best beer in San Diego. Wide range of beers to choose from and there's something for everyone. They have a fresh beer every Friday so definitely keeps one coming back to try the new stuff. Super cozy neighborhood spot. Must stop for beer lovers in San Diego!

Brianna D.

Yelp
I was in town last Thursday, just for the night, and randomly stumbled across this place. I absolutely LOVE this spot and am so glad I found it. I spent the afternoon talking with Thomas (I think his name was!) Thomas was so extremely knowledgable about beer and the brewing process and his passion for beer and brewing was so completely obvious and I loved getting the chance to talk to him all about the East Village Brewing Company beers and the different hops and brew styles that went into making each beer. I'm from the Bay Area and we even ended up talking about a few of the breweries I love near me! Fantastic spot, awesome staff, I even loved how the area where they brew the beers was right inside the place! It was awesome to see exactly where the brewers worked. Absolutely will come back.

Keith K.

Yelp
I had the Dog Daze Pilsner. Very good! Looks like they are very dog friendly too! Bonehead Burgers was set up outside. Nothing like a great beer and burger Combo.

L.G. A.

Yelp
The best beer ever! Have been there couple of times and I'm super impressed with the Beer, it is flawless.

Lauren L.

Yelp
Some of the best beer I've ever had with great, very personable service. The ambiance was amazing. Beer was just a little pricey

Karen G.

Yelp
Server was informative, energetic, and very nice. Interior is comfy, with a couch, lounge chairs, high tops, and regular tables. Exterior has padded wicker chairs, benches, tables, and heat lamps for when it is chilly outside. Favorite beer we tried was the Big Guy, an invigorating ginger IPA.
google avatar

Rod D.

Yelp
I had. Aflight with every beer on here and that was my best decision of the day. The beers aRe fire. The service is great the vibes are sincere. Just head here when u are in gas lamp this place is not a fluke the beer is really the truth. I recommend getting every beer here as a $30 flight, preferably with a bad one and then let that be the start to a rock star night. You're welcome.
google avatar

Bobby F.

Yelp
The BEERS! THE BEERS! Wow! Bee Patient amazing Honey Ale, one of the best if not the best we've ever had. And the COG Bomb... super juicy, very smooth Hazy! Just opened and already crushing it with crushable beers. Best kept secret (for now) in the EV and Downtown. Cheers!
google avatar

Phanida A.

Yelp
EVB is an awesome spot that was desperately needed in downtown East Village. The freshest beer I've found in 5 years living in East Village. We will be back for sure.
