Eastside Fish Fry & Grill

I am visiting Michigan and did a drive from Detroit to Grand Rapids. I did a Google search for lunch spots along my way and Eastside Fish Fry and Grill was one of my selections. This place has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. So, why not give it a try. I am so happy I did!!! This place is a "dive" and you may want to keep driving, but don't. All Staff that I encountered were pleasant and welcoming. They stayed busy while I was there. Seating is limited, but a lot of customers take their order to go. Now, let's get to the food. I ordered the fried catfish with fried macaroni and cheese bites and fried Oreos. The very first bite of the fish received an "Oh My God!" It was sooo good!! The macaroni and cheese bites were good, but filling. I wanted to definitely finish my fish. So, I took the oreos to go to snack on the road. Thank you fellas, I really enjoyed my lunch.

First time here! I ordered the large bluegill & hushpuppies. Waited about 20 minutes ,which I don't mind for hot food! Super delicious and flavorful! The hushpuppies are the best in a restaurant, flavor bomb with a touch of spice. Yummy! Highly recommend! They have a big variety menu to choose from.

Absolutely delicious! I’m in town visiting my friend for the weekend and she said they had the best fried chicken and they did not disappoint! The fried chicken, fish, and the broccoli and cheese bites were so good! If you are in town it’s definitely a must try!

First time at Eastside Fish Fry and it did not disappoint! My son really wanted to try frog legs AND gator and I made him choose one for this time , which was the frog legs. We also got a Tilapia sandwich and fried mushrooms. When we picked up our order, the gentleman who retrieved it for us-named Randy- surprised us with an order of the gator he paid for himself bc he knew my son really wanted to try the gator too😊 The food was great and my son went from upset I made him come here to being excited saying “this place makes great food!” Emily was also very sweet and upbeat and helpful suggesting her favorite flavored kool-aid drink for my son to try😊 10/10 yum

Eastside fish fry & grill is a nice place for great food and service. Everything I've tried has always been good and pleasant employees service. Thank you very much to John and Justin for the awesome recommendation. Justin's cooking is the bomb! My last dog was off the hook :)

Nathan & Antonio went above and beyond to provide top tier customer service for me today. And My food was great! I will coming back in the near future. Justin thank you for taking your time to prepare my meal.

A friend of mine recommended this place and I am very thankful I took them up on their offer. The food was amazing, and the staff were so helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They made me feel comfortable and welcomed me with open arms. I have told all my friends about the food and the Kool-aid. Fried orka was hands down the best, and the fresh catfish nuggets were so delicious. Next, time I go, I am most definitely trying the fried chicken. Thank you all for great service and a long lasting memory!

I ordered the 12-piece spicy wings and a side of chili cheese fries. The wings were cooked well and the chicken itself still tasted good, but you could definitely smell that the frying oil was old, which took away from the overall quality. I’m also not a big fan of their spicy flavor—it comes off a little sweet rather than spicy. The chili cheese fries were disappointing. The cheese tasted like canned cheese, and the chili was chunky, almost like crumbled burger meat instead of a smooth, well-seasoned chili. I’ve been here before and had a better experience with the chicken in the past, so this visit didn’t quite live up to that. Overall, it’s still a decent spot if you’re looking for fresh, cooked-to-order fried food, but the quality was inconsistent this time.

A mandatory stop for food in Lansing! Eastside Fish Fry is well known in the Lansing area for their crack chicken with their crack seasoning (no idea what's in it but as the name suggests, it's addictive!) They have all sorts of other offerings that are super fresh and cooked to perfection, even alligator! As far as the service goes, it can be a little slow at times to get your food out but I believe everything is made to order so it's well worth the wait! The staff is always super friendly and efficient! As far as ambiance goes, they have definitely upped the looks of their shop in recent years but has the kind of vibe that makes you question if the food is really that good (and it is). Don't judge the book by its cover (or by the potholes on that part of Kalamazoo St)

My boyfriend insisted we drive over an hour to try this place and when i tell you we were NOT disappointed. We make a trip out there almost every month just to get Eastside because of how good it is. If you haven't tried it by now you're missing out!!

I've been there twice now, and they have the best chicken livers I've had since Famous Recipe closed 4(?) decades ago

Picked up a chicken dinner after a football game, sooo good and fast service when you call and order in! Will always pick up east side fish fry!! Also don't forget to try the banana pudding.

Went here because it's a DDD! We made it into town late at night and this place was still hopping! I didn't know that many people ate so late on a week night. Like a fish market inside with a cool vibe. We got shrimp which was so crispy and delicious! I also got the deep fried raspberry cheesecake, it had powdered sugar on it and it was like heaven when I bit into it.

Everything was delicious and piping hot! It was worth the wait. Our cashier/server was so nice! She was very thorough to ensure our order was accurate and checked on us. She was lovely but her name escapes me - Kallie? Everyone at the counter was great. Thanks for a great dinner. This was our first time trying this restaurant and we ordered almost one of everything! lol and forgot to take pictures.

Tried Eastside Fish Fry tonight for the first time, I can't believe I haven't been before! Absolutely recommend this place, 1000/10!! I got the tenders, battered mac n cheese bites, fried Oreos, and fried Twinkies. The seasoning on everything was so flavorful - easily the best batter & seasoning I've had. Definitely try some of their sauces, the boom boom sauce was my favorite, but all of them were 10/10. The fried Oreos were the best I've ever had - I only wish I had ordered more. Emily took my order and was super helpful with menu item recommendations. The entire staff was so friendly and kind, I could tell they really put effort into making sure people enjoy their experience and the food.

This place is the best! The service is on point, very polite and efficient. You may have to wait a bit for food but I would definitely hope for a decent wait when the food is as fresh and delicious as it is here! Whether you're getting chicken, fish or any of the other dozens of menu items they offer, nothing will disappoint! (Also, if you've heard of 'crack chicken', this is the spot, not the others haha) Lastly, they keep the store looking nice and clean and organized with the giant menu on the wall. If you need a bomb spot, look no further!

We get food from here quite regularly, and everything we've ever gotten has been wonderful. Their fried chicken has such unique flavor and seasoning, and their various fried fish entrees are always delish as well!

5 Stars - Best Chicken in Town! If you're looking for amazing chicken, this is the place to go! The food is fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The crispy fried chicken is golden and crunchy on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. Their grilled options are just as good--perfectly seasoned with a great smoky flavor.

Best fried ANYTHING!! Hope they keep "extra crack" as a chicken tender request. Juicy and always busy.

I usually enjoy my meals, but the mac n cheese was greasy and tasteless. Pretty sure it was not real cheese

Good food. Nice spices and breading. Good fries. The breading on the shrimp doesn't really go well with it, but the wings and fillets were very good. They never gave me the bread and butter that came with the meal though :(

I specifically went there for the fried gizzards. Although the portion was large, the pieces of gizzards were the size of a pea; for the most part. Additionally, it was a very thick batter that masked the gizzards flavor. The hush puppies were better though. Lastly, they took my number to text me when my food was done, but I waited an additional 10 minutes from the estimate given to me and it was just sitting there; no text.

I was told I had to try it and I was disgusted! Mice, Roaches, No gloves, Kind but that only goes so far... this place needs a health inspection bad!

Probably the best fish I've ever had! Fried perfect, crispy, not too much batter. Fish was also seasoned. Also got the gizzards, best I've had around here by far. Added on the okra which was amazing. Wished they made homemade tartar sauce. Tried the boom boom sauce, ehh it was ok. Definitely long wait times, even when it's not busy. We ordered online and picked it up.

East side fish fry rly the spot, a little bit of a wait time but it's 100% worth it. Service is great, and vibes are awesome.

They have the best chicken tenders and seasoning and ranch this place is beyond anything I've ever tasted. I recommend 1000%%% eat at this place it's the best chicken tenders and fry you will ever have. The service and staff is so kind and the restaurant is welcoming the energy in this place seems everyone's happy.

The home of the OG crack chicken. The ambience and staff are nothing impressive, it's more of a take your food to go place. But as a Lansing native, I have to make sure that I stop by every time I cum home to have a taste of their iconic crack chicken.

Saw them at the movie theatre. Wow what a poster ... what a tiny place when we actually drove up! Lol. So we shall see. We got $2 off with our movie tickets woo hoo! ( btw Upside was funny). I got the catfish dinner (2pc) with okra. Bf got yellowfin tuna steak dinner with 1/2 lb gizzards. And the Banana pudding to share. Yummy We are back for work and we remembered this place! It's by our dropyard too! We were hungry too. I ordered lots. 5 frog legs , 6 pc chicken dinner and small okra. Wow it was fabulous. I ate my froggie legs first then the chicken with okra and roll. The legs were very tender. Gotta remember no to order fries next time. We don't eat them all that much anymore. We love the gizzards still. Love how they are so tender. And bf's ahi tuna steak .... yummo. Lots of people coming in for uber eats and food togo. We got there just in time! One banana pudding to go. Although it's wayyyyy smaller this time. Cutting down I guess. We pretty much pigged our tonite cause we won't be back for awhile.

The fried chicken and waffles were cooked to perfection. Well the chicken was. It was to die for. The seasoning sprinkled on top was mouth watering good and the waffles were good too they were just cold when I got them. But I should not complain because I ate it all. Now lawd let me tell ya the fried skins were oh toooooo good. They fried bacon and called it skins. It was so good. They sprinkled battered up the bacon and fried it just right then sprinkled it with a salt/pepper seasoning and it was finger licking good. My mom had the catfish and she said it was good. I tried her potato salad and it was sweet like I like it. I will definitely return. They only got a 4 star because my waffle was cold when we received it.

Waited an hour and and 20 minutes for our food! When we got it to the car everything was cold. It was awful! Drove 2 hours to eat there since we saw it on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. The worst blue gill I have ever had. Don't waste your time. All the customers sitting in the restaurant were getting pretty mad about how long they had to wait on their food.

Chile, the fried catfish was on point! Got some frog legs too ( because I'm country)! The okra was good too. Y'all quit wasting your hard earned Pennie's on crack chicken, and fry with EASTSIDEEEEEEE!!!! Yay e yay!

Great Chicken! It definitely takes a while to get your food but the wait is worth it. My go-to is their tender dinner which comes with fries and a dinner roll. Their chicken is TASTY. Great seasoning! Their spice is really good too. I love it

It's been on my list for some time and just out of blue was watching Food Network and the rerun of triple D, which just happened to showcase Eastside on the rerun. Yeah, so I picked up my nephew from MSU and headed over. Parked the car, walked in and took 10 minutes trying to figure out what to eat! Wanted to eat everything, but had to control ourselves... so we went with the following items: - Fried Mac-n-Cheese (this was free) - Fried Greenbeans - Catfish Nuggets - Potatoes Wedges - Chicken Wings (20 pcs) First and foremost, I would highly recommend that you order ahead, as foods are prepared to order, our chicken took 45 minutes! The seating area is limited, 5 tables, didn't see anyone eat-in, we were the only ones, all orders were for takeout. - Chicken Wings - The wings come out as a whole (no buffalo style), the crack sauce is sprinkled on top. It's bit on salty side, but that's what sets their chicken apart. However, I was disappointed... the drumettes were bit over cooked and hard to eat, the flats were excellent. - Catfish Nuggets - it wasn't crispy as I had hoped (most likely because it was in the styrofoam with the lid closed), also few of my pieces had bones in them, so be careful. - Fried Mac-n-Cheese - this was free, only because I checked into Yelp. I don't know how long it'll last, but if you have Yelp, check-in before ordering. The mac-n-cheese is basically made from Kraft, made into square, fried and sprinkled with their house seasoning. - Fried Green beans & Potatoes Wedges - they were decent, nothing special. Overall, decent place.... outside of chicken wings being over cooked and catfish not being crispy, it was worth a visit. Their specialty is their crack sauce and they use it on everything. Drink refills were free. Again, if you go, please order ahead, you'll get a text message when the food is ready to go.

Amazing place finger licking wings. My order arrived very hot which I was more than satisfied the only thing the wings were smaller shape than the ones I ordered previously which threw me off for some reason. Other than that they were delicious.

The only reason I'm docking it down a point is because I ordered online that same morning for pickup once they opened. My order was not ready-I don't think they even received my order until they double-checked in the back because I had to wait at least 15 more minutes before my order came out. However, I thought it was worth the wait. There must be something in that batter because I could eat anything fried in it-I ordered fried catfish, shrimp, and even Oreos and they all tasted so good, including the crispy fries! I would order here every Lenten Friday if I could!

Dishonest. They didn't give a full order for a mobile order, sealed the bag ,and tried blaming the delivery company for their mistake. When called they said they "remember" packing the full order, and it is not their responsibility. (Bs) After reviewing other reviews, it's seems like a common theme. They lost costumer for life. Id rather give my money to kfc. At least I get the food I pay for.

Eastside Fish Fry has absolutely delicious chicken. The prices are not so delicious. Coupons make this place incredibly worth it. Stay away from the sides as the price per cheese curd is like 50¢ and they taste like tater tots dipped in butter.

Out first time to Eastside Fish Fry & Grill was awesome. The atmosphere was hype up and Tyann connected with who ever walked in the door. There was mostly take-out traffic, have a few tables for dine-in. The seasoning is the key here, be careful cause it is addictive! Tyann steered me right with the Guy Fieri hard time special and I am looking forward to another visit, but I am 90 minutes out.

The main thing this place excels at...their seasonings. It makes otherwise mediocre food very tasty. The downside is that if you like your chicken minus feathers, this is not the place for you. If you life your shrimp big and worth the price, again, not the place for you. The seasoning is awesome, but I've been here a few times now and the chicken always has feathers on it and the shrimp are tiny. It's literally over $1 per tiny quarter sized shrimp.

I was intrigued by this place in Lansing and ordered food online from them (via Toast Tab). I ordered a Grouper dinner. Among the options in their menu, you could order "rolled in bbq per 10 wings or tenders" (see screenshot) to the fish order. I thought I'd be getting 10 wings rolled in BBQ sauce. I received instead my fried fish smothered in BBQ sauce. The woman that handed me my order thought this was weird, and clearly asked whether I actually ordered something else (instead of the fish) covered in BBQ sauce. I told her that their website's description wasn't clear. She got it and went back to the kitchen to have my order remade. One of the cooks came back with her. He told me I was getting what I ordered and wouldn't remake it. He also said that "I would love it". I had just tried it and certainly I did not like it. My advice would be NOT to order online from them. Their options are very confusing and not clearly laid out. The BBQ fish that I got wasn't good at all. Maybe their fish was good, but I could only taste the BBQ sauce.

I know this place gets a lot of love from the die-hard crowd, so I'll try to be objective. Here's the short version: this place has long wait times and inconsistent food. Here's the long version... I've been here three times in the past year. Recently, I went here on Friday, 3/11/22. I placed an order online at 4:45p for pickup at 6pm. My food was not ready until 6:40p. In the past, this place seems to run a little late with their takeout orders and I usually expect to wait an additional 10-15 min. Granted, this was the second Friday of Lent, so they were pretty busy. I get that restaurants get busy on Friday nights, and fish places are busy during Lent, and I also understand that Eastside cooks their food to order. The cashier was friendly and apologetic, and she offered free sodas to myself and the other people waiting for their takeout. The guy handling the takeout orders was cool and helpful. I could look past the issue of the long wait time if the food was decent, but unfortunately there were problems with my order on 3/11/22. Me & the fam ordered two Whiting dinners, a grilled shrimp dinner, and a 6pc of fried chicken to go. Eastside is sort of known for their "crack seasoning" but our food was inconsistently seasoned. Parts of the fries were caked with the seasoning, other fries were bland. Same with the pieces of fish and chicken. Some were too salty, some were just right, and other pieces were bland. In addition, the fries, the chicken, and the fish were all fried in oil that probably should've been changed. All the food had the mild tang of bitter fry oil. Look, me and the fam were hungry and I hate wasting food. So some ketchup, tartar sauce, and malt vinegar made it all edible. Maybe this is a temporary issue. Maybe I caught them on a rough night. On previous visits, the food was decent. But on 3/11, food wasn't good enough to justify the price and the wait time. I hope this place can figure out the inconsistencies because it does have a lot of potential.

Really great food alongside with good service, I've been getting food here for years and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon!

Filthy and such a risk when considering food poisoning. Have seen mice here on multiple occasions when picking up food running across the floor.

Food over cooked an cold no napkins was given the incorrect order at first needs more employees

This place could be so much better if they would get orders accurate. At least on four recent orders they put their special seasoning on items requested not to be seasoned. This makes the item not eatable for family members who can't have it. Recent missing items include Chicken Strips, Fries (twice) Cheese Curds, Cake, a drink, and don't ever count on desert or sandwich toppings to be correct. I can't trust to order by delivery service as you have to check every item yourself. Good food doesn't matter if it's not correct.

Amazing French fries! Went here with my son-in-law & 6 year old granddaughter and we all loved it! She gave a thumbs up to the generously sized chicken tenders, while he was impressed with the flavor and quantity of the catfish. I enjoyed the whitefish, which was Goldilocks perfect- just right, even though it was more than I could eat! The restaurant does a brisk carry out business and we were the only diners at 5:00pm. Staff is friendly and courteous. I'm definitely going back and will take out of town visitors!

Ordered $60 of food, got charged twice, showed up after waiting for over an hour to wait 90 minutes (that's not a typo) only to be refused our food. Literally refused service. Save your money and order somewhere else.

The food was alright. The chicken wings and cat fish nuggets were pretty decent in size. I had scheduled the order at 5:00pm to be ready for pickup at 6:45pm. When I picked the food up at 6:40pm, it was luke warm at best. It was borderline cold after the 10 minute drive back home. We still ate it, but it was not worth the money I paid. I also ordered 2 fried twinkies. I only received 1, and it was gross--covered in burnt batter and soaked through completely with oil. Save yourself the money and go to a cheaper place. We won't be back.

After a long hiatus from visiting this place, on Friday, I was being lazy so I decided to put in an online order. The process of ordering online was seamless. I order a perch dinner with fries and added a side of fried okra. They also sent me a text when my food was ready. The only problem though is that in the instructions section, I asked for the seasoning and bun to be placed on the side (which you can see on the receipt). After picking up my order, there was no bun or seasoning. That made my meal bland and disappointing. Next time, I won't be so lazy. I have fries in the freezer, and perch, and Louisiana seasoning; I make a really good perch dinner myself. For this trip, I wasted $14.

You know those restaurants where you pull up and think, these guys don't give a shit? Well this is one of them. This place used to be good and I used to tell everyone how great it was. I was back in town this week and took some friends there. The guys at the counter were rude and couldn't be bother to say more than a word at a time or even look at you when you're ordering. We should have just left. We spent over $65 and the food was garbage. Dried out over cooked bluegill. Was a hollow piece of breading. The fish was practically gone, way over cooked. Clams were dark and flavorless. Like a frozen bag of clams from meijer. I called to let them know and they didn't care. This place doesn't care. We were just happy we didn't get sick, so there's the only positive from this experience.

This was pretty good. Not knock your socks off but tasty and satisfied my cravings... I don't crave fried chicken gizzards, but I tried them. Not bad, actually. Tastes like...chicken,think dark meat. A little on the pricier side for fried food, but it satisfied my craving... Is go again...
