Eat Crispy Burger Is Expanding From Encinitas to Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"A popular Encinitas burger shop is opening its second location in the Convoy District by early March; Eat Crispy Burger will land next to Yakyudori and Starbucks in a 1,500-square-foot space that includes a 50-seat patio. Owner Ramzy Rahib, who grew up near Balboa Avenue and whose family once ran the Beach Club Grill in Imperial Beach, opened the original Encinitas shop in April 2022 after a decade in Los Angeles; his wife Angela, a licensed contractor, oversees marketing and construction, their three oldest kids help out during the summer, and the family plans to serve beer and wine once they obtain a liquor license. The burger method involves rolling three-ounce Angus beef patties into balls, smashing them into thin disks, and cooking them at high temperatures, with single, double, or triple patties served on brioche buns. The menu also features avocado oil–fried crispy chicken sandwiches (recently with hot honey sriracha and housemade ranch), low-carb salad bowls topped with meat and an array of vegetables and pickles, breakfast pastrami-and-egg sandwiches, and a lineup of milkshakes from chocolate and strawberry to Oreo, Butterfinger, and the customer-favorite Crazy Ding Dong Shake made with vanilla ice cream and a Hostess Ding Dong. The staff was friendly, and John was very helpful. I was excited to discover that I could customize my order with half fries and half onion rings, both of which were incredibly crispy and flavorful. The cowboy burger was delicious, and I will definitely return with my family. They offer a military discount, but you need to ask for it. While there is limited parking out front, there is plenty available in the back.

We ordered the og crispy burger and the one with hash brown in it, and got French fries and onion rings on the side. The food was very fresh and hot, it tasted homemade and had great flavors. The Jamaica is also really good and not too sweet, just the right level of tart. The staff is really friendly and hospitable, the girl (I didn’t get her name) went above and beyond. We also liked that they had games on TV. We will definitely be back!

Surprising Find in Oceanside I was wandering around trying to figure out what to eat when I stumbled across this little gem — and I’m glad I did. Eat Crispy Burger turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for. This place actually found a new spin on burgers that is surprisingly good! Bun is not too sweet, lettuce, pickles, and burger were all nice and crispy! They use avocado oIl which is far better than the standard "vegetable oil blend", IMO. The All American Crispy and a chocolate shake hit the spot! I've been here ~5 times since they opened a month ago. Never waited more than 10 minutes. It's a nice change from In-N-Out.

I liked my protein style burger. My kid enjoyed the fries and sliders. My wife's gave her burger a 4/10, saying she wanted more meat and more flavor. The oreo milkshake was also light on the cookies. Staff was friendly and the dining area was clean and presentable.

Fan of Smash Burgers? Yep. Definitely roll in and get a Crispy. So good. I got the double burger bowl and added 2 extra patties. The bowl comes with jalapeños, banana peppers, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and I may be missing something hahah. Either way it was gooooood. Staff was awesome and helpful. It was pretty quiet when I was inside but I could see them getting pretty busy on the weekends. Looked like they had a nice bar setup as well if you were to come by for a burger and a beer. I'll definitely be back.

Husband and I did our own food wars with Crispy Burger and Cosmos since they are right across the street from each other. What we failed to do was order the same type of burger from each place. I guess that means we will have to do it again We ordered the original crispy burger and the better Mac from Cosmos. Both are excellent. My husband leans towards the crispy burger, it's a little bit larger in diameter and we both agree that the cheese and beef used really knocks it outta of the park. Fries - crispy burger wins. They're battered and "crispy" plus the dipping sauce choices are a great adder. Staff were great even though all we did was pickup.

I had Eat Crispy Burger in Encinitas about a year ago, and it was decent, but the crispy crazy fries were stellar. I saw the Oceanside location that recently opened where TBG once was and wanted to try it again today. To my surprise, the menu has changed, and many more menu items were added, including a breakfast menu now served all day. Plenty of seating at this location compared to the cramped Encinitas location. Bar seating with TVs also. We ordered the Cowboy and All-American burgers, crazy crispy fries and a fountain drink. Burgers and fries came out fast, piping hot and crazy crispy! Everything was tasty, fresh and crispy! Reasonably priced and are given with their sauces and portions. Will definitely be back

Such a gem! This family owned and run business is a SMASH! Got a late notice about their soft opening today. So glad I caught up with them after work. One of the owners, Angela, was still there toward the end of the day. Such personable and friendly service. Food is off the charts. Shakes are hand scooped and made to perfection. Smash burgers are made to order and handed out quick! Fries and probably the best I've ever had. Menu has slightly expanded since I first discovered their initial location.... For the better! This location also is in the process of applying for their liquor license. They'll have good use for the bar that lines the south wall of the restaurant! Can't wait to see where they'll open next! Something was VERY off with the sauces, especially the ranch. I thought it was because they were left out at room temp for customers to grab at their own convenience but when I received my chicken salad it came with a cold one that tasted just as bad. They had to have been old. Maybe they prepped too many and didn't realize they had expired. Thousand island tasted off too. Bbq sauce was alright, as I was hoping it would make up for the ranch. The crispy hot honey siracha and ranch chicken salad was yummy, the chicken was crispy and I could have eaten just that. I didn't taste any siracha though. We also found a hair on the side of the og cripsy burger. Not sure if it flew in on its way to our table or if it came from the kitchen. Before we saw it we thought the burger was mid. It was very salty but had potential. Inside needs booths and a more welcoming atmosphere, it feels like the tables and chairs were thrown in without any thought. We have so many burgers spots, the standard is high in order to get customers to return.

Been a fan of crispy since when they opened the Leucadia spot. Love their burgers! I usually just go with the double OG combo, never lets me down. They do have some good looking signature burgers on their menu and the breakfast sandwiches look good too. I'll definitely try those next time!

Service was good and generous offering of additional thousand island dressing, ranch etc. Burger was good with a soft bun ... could've used more sauce so make sure you ask for extra sauce just in case. The onion rings were the best ... crispy outside and soft inside so that onion stay in ring bite after bite! Ambience is a 2.5... no place to sit and eat inside not even a small table.

I came in after the 4th of July parade. I ordered the All-American Crispy Burger combo. I went with fries. The burger was really tasty. I probably should have ordered the triple since the burger was smashed thin. It was juicy and had a lot of flavor. The fries were good too. The prices are good. If your spending time at the beach and get hungry make the walk and get yourself a yummy burger. Service was fast and friendly too.

The prices are great and the food is even better! My godson told me "it's the best burger he's ever had" but everything was delicious and the vibes were great.

There was no one in there when we went. Kind of odd. Then we got our burgers. I think I'm just over the whole smash burger craze. We both got the double OG burger. It was so sad looking and overly salty. Will not go back. The onion rings were good though. I think they should put the pictures up on the menu of what the burger will actually look like when you get it. Then I might have ordered something else.

The ambiance and decor definitely needs some help, but I think they're working on that. Service was fantastic. I mean, you're just ordering at the counter and they bring your food to wherever you're sitting so it's pretty simple, but having an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person at the register can brighten anyone's day. The food arrived quickly and HOT. Fries, onion rings, and burgers were all very good. Prices were also reasonable considering downtown Oceanside. My son and I got the Cowboy double patty. My wife got the Original Crispy burger. Very nice crunchy edges on all patties, and the other ingredients were fresh and plentiful. I'll be glad when I can get a beer with my burger, but this place will definitely remain on our rotation for excellent North County burger places.

To be honest, this might be the BEST burger I ever had. Beef Juicy and seasoned. Buns toasted to PERFECTION. And the cheese, the cheese just melts in your mouth. The flavors of this burger was just insane and I couldn't even stop to say something. Me and my cousins just ate in silence, nodding at each other. This place is truly a hidden gem in Oceanside and we will 100% come back next time!!! LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

5 of us wondered in on Wednesday, the place is very clean, the staff was very friendly and service fast for the amount of customers at dinner time. All of our sandwiches and sides were served hot, perfectly seasoned. The only thing that could have made it any better would have been a cold Stout, or maybe a nice glass of wine. Will be back when your bar is open.

Bf and I went on a burger crawl to Tanners, Smash'd, and here. We definitely saved the best for last. The meat had the most flavor, it was hot & fresh, a perfect amount of onions, bread was sweet, overall perfect. Sage took our order and he immediately knew we wanted it cut in half (I didn't have to ask). He knows his customers well! The only thing is that it was warm inside. Outside air was cooler.

Dang it! I really wanted to like this place, but tried it for the 1st time yesterday and: 1. Onion rings were burnt, and there were a couple small black hairs in the box. 2. My burger was way too salty 3. Way too much ketchup 4. Burgers were thin. Meat was not as much as I was expecting for a double. 5. Looked like they didn't have enough Staff for the customer level. Sorry, we'll try a different location someday...maybe. Idk.

I have always been a supporter of this business back when they only had one location. The family is kind and very passionate about their business and burgers. Unfortunately today around 3pm I visited the Oceanside location and the service didn't have that warm and welcoming energy at the register. I understand that expanding business is every entrepreneur's dream but at what cost? Employing people who aren't as vested in your company as you are. It's a bad reflection and not what so remembered from the Encinitas location. :( Side note - Burgers were good and the fries were fire per usual.

I have eaten at Encinitas for a long time. Food and services always extraordinary. I went to Oceanside location to try and the service time was x long from ordering to getting food. 4 people in at the time. The burger tasted burnt. Very sad experience. Ramsey and Angela please fix this so they are up to par with what you started thank you.

We have long been anticipating the slow coming opening of Eat Crispy Burger in Oceanside...but we're gravely disappointed. Just visually...we almost left right away. The space has been completely stripped of any character whatsoever. It felt very sterile inside, not at all welcome but ...thought we'd give the food a chance. Not one of our three orders was delivered correctly. My hamburger bun was cold...which is an odd combo with a burger. My burger was pretty tasteless and the bun just immediately squished to nothing. The fries were good and the onion rings were ok...they just seemed like they were simply frozen...not handcrafted. The restroom was as bare as the restaurant. It seems odd that the entire place seems much smaller than it seemed previously. Losing the ambience and excellent food of Miss Kim's was definitely felt. With so many excellent places to eat in Oceanside...we will not be back. The one positive is that the gentleman working the register was really working hard...and that was appreciated. Pretty disappointed overall.

We love the Encinitas store. But this was our first time at the Oceaside store and we were disappointed. The burgers had so much extra stuff hanging on the edges it was gross. My patty was very flat. Fries were very overcooked and a large order was small.

if you're looking for a smash burger this is the place! Fire AF okayyyyy. No complaints at all very seasoned and every bite is pure flavor. The size of the patty is perfect which is the point of a smash burger! We loved it so much that we are going back today!!! The staff was friendly as well. Cant wait until the bar opens. the ambiance is nice but my only complaint is the bathroom. it's not dirty but its giving old they need a revamp but other than that i loved the food. ( i ordered the cowboy burger ) We need a location in LA/Long beach area !!

I have been going to their original location since they opened. I have raved about their food and service since day 1 and have referred many people. Today I tried the Oceanside location. Food was the same, however the place itself is sort of gross. I understand they took over an old restaurant but not redoing it properly and making it look nice and clean is a turnoff. Exposed conduits, beer lines , soda machine lines, crooked TVs, gross old floor tile behind bar,etc. Their brand is so nice but to cheap out on construction this bad is not smart. Gross restrooms also!!. No AC

I'm not a huge review person as this my first review and I try to just ignore bad service and not comeback but the attitude and micro aggressions I got from Sage the cashier was unnecessary... getting annoyed when he can't hear us or when we asked him for a recommendation. Also not sure why it was necessary to keep looking us up and down. To be fair, the food was good and will give credit where it's due, but the service was interesting to say the least... I'm just going to assume he was in a bad mood that day as he was like that to everyone but prob won't come back, kinda just ruins the mood..

I had been looking forward to Crispy Burger in Oceanside for months so when it finally opened, I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, the experience left me more confused than satisfied. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the burger itself was tasty. No complaints there. But that's about where the positives end. A little expensive, but hey I get it. The option to add a large side and drink for (7$) was good - the crispy fries were large and yummy. I also love the different drink options including horchata. The menu situation was a mess. It was afternoon when I went in, and the digital menu kept flipping between breakfast and lunch every few seconds. It was hard to read, disorienting, and just poor planning. Fix that screen, or at least schedule the changes better. Then, the bouncer situation. Yes--there's a bouncer. At a burger shop. I get that they're apparently getting a full liquor license soon, but honestly, why? This place is more "hole-in-the-wall" than high-end gastropub. The guy working the counter said he'll be the bartender and the bouncer, which was... weird. It felt more awkward than welcoming, and definitely not what I want when I'm just trying to grab a burger. All in all, Crispy Burger feels like it's trying to be something it's not. A good burger doesn't need a bar or a bouncer--just a clean space, solid service, and a straightforward menu. Disappointed to say the least.

Love it here they have food for everyone from you beef to chicken even plant based. All food is fresh and delicious great combos and prices are comparable to fast food but better food. Love the sundae half and half so if u want both rings and fried u good. Their sauces are delish plus my kid loves the nuggets. Guy at the register was nice...but i feel scammed about the price. Ordered an american-classic asked if I could switch ameran cheez for cheddar- he says yes. Added the combo drinks+fries and he said they had half onion rings and fries. OK, what should have been a $13 combo became $17. He didnt share that the cheese was extra and half and half was extra. Not cool! Then they didnt put the onion rings w/ the burger all fries, but the burger was bad, lots of lettuce and cold- this is definitely not a smash burger or a distant cousin. If microwave burgers is ur thing...
