11 Best Places for Shopping in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Florence branch of Eataly (which now has stores around the world, in the United States, Japan, Turkey, Brazil, Qatar, Russia, and more) is located just steps from the Duomo and offers the very best of Italian food and wine. You can come here for coffee, lunch, or dinner; for grocery shopping; or for cooking and wine-tasting courses. It’s a one-stop-shop for great Italian produce, and it's also a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs. A mezzanine houses a restaurant with everything from potato-stuffed tortelli to burgers; upstairs, the restaurant FAC (short for Fast and Casual) does good, wholesome food quickly. Expect traditional Tuscan specialities like pappardelle with chicken livers, sage, and lemon, and braised pork ribs." - Nicky Swallow

We weren't expecting much from this restaurant, given its commercialized brand and presence in the USA and other countries. However, it turned out to be one of the best Italian meals we had during our entire stay in Florence! They have a supermarket set up in front, while the restaurant is hidden all the way inside, at the back of the space. We enjoyed a delicious Burrata Pizza and Tagliatelle al Ragu, paired with a lovely glass of Barolo red wine. Despite being classic Italian dishes, the quality and execution were outstanding. The service was decent, and we even received a generous pour of wine from one of the servers, which was a nice touch. Overall, for 60 EUR, it was a fantastic and enjoyable meal that exceeded our expectations.

I had the opportunity to dine at Eataly, and the food was fantastic, with excellent service. We were very well taken care of. However, I'm unsure if all restaurants in Florence include a mandatory service charge, which was about 25%—quite steep in my opinion. Aside from that, both the food and service were outstanding.

The person at the front of the restaurant (not pizzeria) was horrible and rude. If we hadn’t missed lunch and were running somewhere else, we would not have stayed. She told me sharply to wait by the stairs when there was no one in front of her and there weren’t many diners. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe her English wasn’t good and it’s not intentional that she was coming across rude. A mistake on my part. They served us crusty old bread that I could hardly bite, and a terrible Caesar salad. Things are definitely priced higher here too than what you can find elsewhere for better in Florence. I ordered an Aperol spritz and it nearly didn’t come. I asked for anchovies that never came. When I asked her for the bill, she pretended not to hear me and then pointed go to the checkout and said in a rude way to go over there when I asked again. She told me the price without giving me a receipt and I had to ask for the receipt which she didn’t like. But I wanted to make sure that the anchovies wasn’t included since it never came. It was a mistake to come here as I’ve loved Eataly in USA and Canada and felt it would be a trustworthy experience that I could share with my elderly parents.

We had lunch here one time during our stay in Florence. I had a pizza with ham and mushrooms while my partner had the calzone with ham and mushroom, both of which were very good. The staff were all friendly, with at least one speaking English. I also had a seat outside with views of the Baptistery of St. John.

Pasta was great, tasted fresh and very light. Cooked al dente 10/10. The remaining dishes were pretty average and the food took a while to come out. Prices were also a little high for the amount of food we got. Overall a decent place if you don’t have any other options in the area. Definitely felt a but touristy.
