Last week I got a full bouquet of lavender. This week I got a huge bag of basil, a huge bag of parsley, and some Santa Rosa plums (to complement the Santa Rosa plums I just picked from my back yard).
You get the point. Just inevitably, you get a lot of stuff with this program that you wouldn't buy yourself, or would buy in smaller quantities. In some cases it's fun - I had never myself cooked kale before, I'll continue to buy more. Green garlic was also new to me, in some ways it's better than standard garlic. But a lot of the time it's pretty blase. I don't really care for potatoes or cabbage or beets. I don't mind them on occasion, but I don't need a continual re-supply. And the lavender was kind of fun to experiment with, but I ended up throwing most of it away
Going by practical considerations, you're better off just getting what you want at the store. If I went to a Farmer's Market, I could get just the stuff I wanted, of similar quality, for maybe half the price or less.
Most of the produce is of good quality, but nothing special. Strawberries and zucchini and basil were the standouts (although I still threw away most of the basil). Cherries were very disappointing.
I don't want to sound too negative, I didn't have any problems with the service and it's kind of fun getting vegetables straight off a farm. There's an option to get a 4-delivery subscription, I think it's worth giving a try. Give it a go in the summer, when the more interesting fruits & vegetables will be available.
