Where to Find Supremely Tasty Ice Cream in Portland and Beyond

"Forget the mid-aughts froyo shop with artificial-tasting flavors and super-sweet candy toppings; Eb & Bean is closer to a high-end soft-serve, with just a touch of more tang. The shop always serves froyo in vanilla bean and Valrhona chocolate, along with a handful of seasonal specials, including a couple nondairy options. The magic here is in the creative, artisanal toppings, like Tom Bumble Crumble, a flaky, caramelized peanut butter, and cold brew bourbon sauce. Eb & Bean locations offer plenty of seating with colorful cartoon murals that kids will love." - Michelle Lopez, Janey Wong

Google
I got the non dairy chocolate and my husband, the vanilla, and OMG....It was soooo good, and the service was top-notch. A lot of yogurt places that I have gone to don't serve chocolate, for whatever weird reason, so thank you, Eb & Bean. We will definitely be back whenever we're ever in Portland again.

Google
Great place to be for frozen yogurt! They've got a ton of flavors, even dairy-free and gluten-free options. The staff is super cool and helpful, and it's got a chill atmosphere. You should def give it a try! Their frozen yogurt is made with organic, probiotic-rich dairy and non-dairy flavors. They also have a huge selection of toppings. It's wheelchair accessible, and they offer dine-in, takeout, and delivery. I admit giving them 4 stars as it’s a bit pricey for such small portions.

Charles Nguyen

Google
This frozen yogurt shop is really nice. You can pick your flavor and then decide on what toppings you would like to have. I like the fact that they have dairy and dairy-free options. The staff there are very nice and patient with customers who have no idea what they are doing. (Me)

Hello Somebody

Google
Not self serve like most frozen yogurt shops which removes some of the enjoyment. The flavors that were not vanilla or chocolate were not good. Frozen yogurt and toppings tasted good and high quality.

Google
This place had a really off and unwelcoming vibe when we came in. The person working there gave us a blank and slightly terrified stare until another employee came out and finally said hello. I don't expect to be besties with your works, but don't act like I just walked into your living room without knocking. The ice cream was mid and didn't taste like the flavor it was advertised as.

Ranee C.

Google
One of the staff members felt pretty unwelcoming. When we walked in, they just gave us a blank stare—no smile, no “hi.” We weren’t even sure if they were going to help us until we stepped closer. When we asked to try a few flavors, same thing—just staring, which felt awkward? At toppings, it felt a little rushed with an “is that it,” almost like we were bothering her. The yogurt itself was fine, but the vibe made the whole experience uncomfortable. I usually never run into bad service in Portland, so this stood out as an odd and disappointing visit :(

Blair Busby

Google
Very fine experience. The yogurt was good, but the amount you get for the price left plenty to be desired. For a regular size, which was just under $6, I was provided with an amount of yogurt I consider to be underwhelming. Less than a normal scoop of ice cream, for reference in terms of amount. Overall a very passable experience but prices need to go down or amount of yogurt needs to go up for me to consider returning.

Google
Great dessert option in the area. Tried valrhona chocolate flavor yogurt with hot fudge chocolate on top. The staff was friendly, the place was clean and had some ambiance. Enough seating was available for a group of 10. The had a limited selection of flavors but all appeared to be good. Parking was available on roadside and depends on time of the day.

Yelp
Eb & Bean is so delicious! Their salty caramel ice cream was the perfect mix of salt and caramel! I added Nutella on top and it was to die for! There is good music playing and the employees are very positive! I would definitely recommend visiting if you're in the area!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this frozen yogurt shop after grabbing dinner down the street. I got the salty caramel flavor with the butter toffee crumble topping. The texture was thick and creamy which made me completely forget I was eating froyo and not ice cream. It was quite sweet and rich. The toffee bits added a nice layer of yummy crunch to the melt-in-your-mouth frozen yogurt consistency. I'd probably opt for a different flavor or entirely different dessert place since it was ~really~ sweet but it was a tasty treat to try. There was no line and the service was quick on a Monday night. The space had ample seating, especially for a quickly enjoyed dessert that you can easily take to go. Parking might be a bit hard as Eb & Bean is located on a busy street with lots of restaurants and shops but it's not impossible. No qualms at all, I'm just not sure if I see myself frequenting this shop due to dessert preference and sweetness level. The frozen yogurt was not mind-blowingly amazing nor was it bad. My experience was very average.

Yelp
This Eb and Bean is just the OG for me. It's the one I remember always hitting up for delicious soft serve. And the staff is more friendly (and consistently so,) than the other locations. I'm always happy to stop in when I'm nearby to grab my vegan soft serve that I know will satisfy!!

Yelp
We were out and about yesterday and got a craving for something sweet and tasty. Ice cream sounded good, but gluten-free and vegan options can be hard to find. Well, this is the place! I'm guessing it gets crowded at times, but last night we walked right up to the counter with no wait - - which in a way isn't good because there is no time to figure out your order :) Service was super friendly and helpful and offered samples - - um, yes, please! Usually, my choices are extremely limited, but not here. I decided on Mocha Macadamia frozen yogurt in a cup with peanut butter magic shell, cookie dough and dark chocolate chips. OMG!! So hit the spot. It's street parking around there so if you can't find a spot right out front, look on a side street.

Yelp
Never had amaretto sour yogurt before and it blew my mind. Cute shop, interesting flavors and the flakiest waffle cones I've ever had. The flat of the waffle cone was beyond thoughtful as it allows you to lay it down without it rolling away. Great spot that I'd try again and again so that I can taste everything.

Yelp
Fast casual non essential business who will only accept card payments despite the fact that the US dollar is our national currency. Just not at Eb & Bean. They actually chose to throw out the already made product vs taking cash. Effectively validates the fact the end product is so marked up they do not care are about serving the community just those who have access to card payments.

Yelp
Wow! Can't believe today was my first time coming here. So good! Or as my 5 yr old son said "SO FREAKING GOOD" we throughly enjoyed a small sized serving of Strawberry Lemonade and Date Shake topped with the oat strudel. Will definitely come back and urge you to try (:

Yelp
This is out goto dessert spot in Portland during the spring and summer. They have incredible flavors which are over the top and incredibly friendly staff. Everything we go, there is a new combo we try and are never disappointed.
google avatar

Malika U.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp and decided to come check it out. Tried the passionfruit caramel and it was really refreshing but a little too sweet. It was more of like a sorbet in my opinion. The staff was quiet, but allowed us to have 2 samples each of any flavor. They did have cute little decorations on their wall and certain items you could purchase like bars, gummy bears, shirts and even small pints of ice cream.
google avatar

Kailani S.

Yelp
Very delicious we will be back to try more flavors for sure. Love their non dairy frozen yogurt. Service was good and the ambiance was welcoming and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
The local ice cream parlor has a line out the door so we came over here and there was NO LINE and great fro yo!! I will never understand why people will wait an hour in line like sheep when there are other wonderful options! There were eight amazing flavors to choose from and so many delicious toppings and sauces that made my mouth water. I opted for the vanilla and valhorva chocolate flavors with bourbon cold brew sauce and my daughter chose the dark chocolate with a peanut butter shell sauce. The price was reasonable and every bite was yum We will return! And the popular spot may never see us!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute shop in a great location. It is clean and bright with a fun ice cream themed wall. They let you try as many flavors as you'd like. We came about an hour before closing time and they there sold out of a few flavors. We will come earlier next time. I had the strawberry and crème in a waffle cone. Their waffle cone I nice and crunchy. It tasted like a stroopwafel! There are many toppings to choose from. The chocolate pearls are like chocolate covered rice crispies. There is ample seating. If you come with a big group, there is a big table that can seat 12. Additional seating along the perimeter of the room. I wish I could give them 5 stars, but they weren't very friendly. When it was our turn, the lady barely smiled and I could hardly hear her. Maybe it had been a long day. Kind of a downer when we were super excited for dessert.

Yelp
Solid froyo spot with plenty of topping options. We ended up stopping by Eb & Bean after another visit in the area and seeing the line out the door and people enjoying their cups right outside. This time around we were fortunate to come at an off time so we didn't have any lines to wait in. Definitely come by to get a mix of their VANILLA BEAN and VALRHONA CHOCOLATE flavors topped with almond toffee crumble, brownie cookie, and cacao nibs. Yum!! Froyo has great texture and is nice and creamy. Great to share between two people or devour all by yourself. I also noticed they had sandwiches and pints to go which looked so tasty! They also have a punch card so be sure to pick one up since you'll want to come more than once.

Yelp
Oh yes! This place was so cute, and served accordingly! I ordered the brown sugar froyo with espresso brownie toppings, and it came out to about $5. Although you do not get to self-serve, the portions are pretty decent, and boy was it delicious. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jonathan Y.

Yelp
Love this place and all it's nondairy options (I'm lactose intolerant). The nondairy options have a great flavor thst I'm not heavily missing that dairy component. Only thing is the ice cream was melting fast and by the time we were out the door, the fudge all settled to the bottle and the too began to slump. The brown sugar sesame flavor is amazing.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Great service, cute place, and unique flavors! Love that they have a variety of dairy free options (oat, coconut, almond) and gluten free toppings
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
Was craving ice cream and was eating across the street. Eb & Bean is a organic plant based fro-yo place. Thought the concept was pretty cool. I got the maple pecan butter with coconut, marshmallows, & waffle cone. It was a bit sweet for me, but I'd be down to try other flavors.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
When I go back to Portland, I always stop by! Their strawberry one is good and I believe peanut butter? They also have plugs to work in and it's like perfect on a hot day. I've tried other places, but I tend to go back to Eb & Bean.
google avatar

Angela N.

Yelp
A local business that takes their role seriously-solid and fresh ingredients, top notch toppings, and craveable flavors including options for everyone! Our friends in town ordered the dairy free chocolate and did not even know it was dairy free, saying it was their favorite chocolate fro yo yet! Yep, that's Eb & Bean-on their game and rocking it! Thank you for being a solid in our community!
google avatar

Yelp
"i scream, you scream, we all scream for--" EB & BEAN. organic local fro yo! my fave place to go when my taste buds are wanting something frozen. i love that they remember us dairy-free, gluten-free folks with almond and coconut milk flavor options and a smorgasbord of toppings (fruity bears! sprinkles! honey! streusel! cacao nibs! blueberries in the summer!) OMG the magic shells are vegan and are to run a marathon for. in fact, the hazelnut magic shell has my heart.
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
I've spent way too much money here because I'm a sucker for vegan soft serve and/or froyo. Eb & Bean is one of my favorite spots in Portland for creative vegan options -- I love how they're always rotating flavors, and I can never say no to that Tom Bumble Crumble topping.
google avatar

Gabrielle Q.

Yelp
Came here for dessert and had some creamy frozen yogurt! We got vanilla latte flavored yogurt appoints were waffle cone, dark chocolate chips, and sprinkles. The yogurt was very creamy and taste like ice cream! Even better that it was made locally. The waffle cones was the best topping for sure! The presentation doesn't look that great, but don't let the looks fool you. They are closed for indoor dining. There's some benches outside you can sit at or eat outside while standing.
google avatar

Dena D.

Yelp
Delicious soft serve and toppings. Was super excited to be able to have non dairy soft serve. The chocolate pearl topping was yummy too. Wish they had one closer to my home!
google avatar

Melissa E.

Yelp
I'm so happy I looked this place up after seeing the sign driving by. The name intrigued me. I love they are organic! They have a rotating selection of froyo, so you will have to make this place a regular pit stop! I also love all the topping options...just warning it is an extra charge per topping so don't get sticker shock at the cash register....
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place but I unfortunately didn't have the best experience. I thought the flavor selection was fine, but not particularly exciting. I thought the toping selection was pretty awesome. I got Nutella magic shell and hazelnuts :P I do also recognize that although I am not vegan and do not have allergies, it is cool that they offer a lot of non dairy options. The reason my review is 2 stars is that the employee helping we was unfortunately quite rude. I was chipper and cheerful and she was very short and irritated while I read the topping options. I felt rushed to order because she was clearly annoyed. Secondly I felt the portion was so tiny for the price. Maybe I would have expected a small portion if I had time to ask what the sizes were like. Either way, I left feeling a bit bummed.
google avatar

Jema C.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Eb & Bean, but I have to report that their frozen yogurt was not flavorful and close to bland. I was glad that I had the iced oatmeal cookie as a topping, it added the extra something the yogurt needed. We tried the brown sugar sesame and chocolate coconut flavors. The sesame flavor was not good and tasted nutty to me. I could hardly taste the coconut in the chocolate coconut flavor. I will be seeking to fulfill my frozen dessert cravings elsewhere next time.
google avatar

C B.

Yelp
Super rude employees and extremely bland, flavorless yogurt. This also seems to be yet another example of a company trying to seem woke with "support" for social causes, when in reality they're all about maximizing profits. I only tried them out because they had advertised a 5 day promotion during which they would give proceeds to an Asian American charity. Turns out they only made the promotional item for one day. When I asked them about it, they told me the promo waffle cones only stay good for 1 day and they ran out. I replied: if they advertised a 5 day charitable promotion for an item that only lasts 1 day, why didn't they plan to make them every morning for 5 days? They gave a SUPER rude response about how I was rude to question them and they couldn't afford to give up profits on one item for five days. Just look at their Instagram, you can still see their response up! They banned me from their Instagram moments later, but I took some screenshots. They also lied and said they only claimed the promotion would run for 4 days, while their post is STILL UP showing that they advertised it for 5 days. And first they said the promo cones only last for a day, and then said they were frozen and they didn't have enough space. Which is it? Are they fresh and only last for a day, or are they frozen? These people can't seem to keep their story straight.

Yelp
Such a yummy ice cream spot with delicious toppings. I loved that this is vegan and GF friendly too. You can really taste the homemade, real ingredients. I loved that they had a few different hard shells
google avatar

Delilah S.

Yelp
unfortunately, not a fan! :( soft serve was very watery and tasted like burnt coffee. i got the vanilla latte with vegan caramel and dark chocolate chips in a waffle cone and none of it held up. i've had my fair share of vegan soft serve, coming from LA and this is not it. the waffle cone with caramel was delicious so eb&bean earns one star! we weren't greeted at the door, more so ignored until someone else from the back was called to take our order. customer service could use some help as it would've been nice to explain our options. anyways, not worth going out of your way for! super disappointed. my ice cream melted in my cone. proudly recommend little chickpea for AMAZING vegan ice cream! hopefully they open soon because I miss their great customer service as well :,)
google avatar

Kristin R.

Yelp
Eb & Bean is a reliable soft serve / froyo-type ice cream shop with non dairy options, plenty of mi-ins, and good prices. The "kid" size vanilla macadamia (oat base) ice cream with bumble crumble is SO good, and comes in just under $5. I wouldn't say E&B is the best ice cream in town, but it's delicious, affordable, and quick! Worth popping in on a hot day.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
I believe this place is a vegan ice cream shop. Best decision ever. The ice cream here is the right level of sweetness. They have about 8 flavors and an abundance of toppings. You can even buy ice cream to go by the pint. Stop in and give it a try.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
We stopped in late one night after a show, just wanting ice cream, and we were happily surprised! This was was really good, and we enjoyed everything we tried. Additionally the workers were so fun and nice, just made the experience even better. Can't wait to find my way back!

Christiana F.

Yelp
You'd think the service and food is good after you first walk in but it's pretty shitty. The only thing I like is when the area outside where there's a bunch of chairs and seating area. pretty lights and a good atmosphere OUTSIDE the Eb and Bean shit place. The teenage young short girl serving me had no nice customer service and just wasn't helpful when I had some questions. I still tipped but damn you know your frozen yogurt is bad enough, at least give a nice welcoming smile.
google avatar

Alan F.

Yelp
Giving this place a solid four stars. While I appreciated the vegan options and everything tasted great, it's missing a wow factor that prevents me from saying "I gotta come back here again!" Regardless, cool vibe in the store and a great spot if you want non-dairy dessert.
google avatar

Shauna M.

Yelp
Super tasty. They have fabulous assortment of flavors and I always have a hard time choosing because I want them all! The toppings are also super high quality. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Not a lot of seating for enjoying your frozen yogurt but it's still worth a stop.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
We happened to come upon Eb and Bean and the yogurt shop has plenty of choices and toppings.
google avatar

Huong L.

Yelp
This was kinda a surprise stop in Portland but we're glad we checked it out. It's categorize as a frozen yogurt shop but it taste more like soft serve ice cream which is a bonus for me :) The flavors here are really good and different. We sampled the bourbon caramel, the mint matcha and the palm sugar one. Each had their own distinct flavor so you can tell what you are eating. Ended up getting the bourbon caramel with cacao nibs/salt. It was really good combo. The person who took our order didn't seem as excited or care much so that kind of affect my visit, because I would have asked to sample more to see what other flavors were like. Price was standard.
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Very nice frozen yogurt shop. Tasty seasonal flavors with a plethora of toppings. Waffle cones made from scratch. Friendly helpful staff will provide you tasting samples until you decide on a flavor. Prices as expected for this type of a more upscale frozen yogurt shop. Lines may be long but they move along fairly well. An enjoyable experience.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
I am a fan of Eb & Bean! This location is pretty popping, since it's on a busy street. I got the chocolate hazelnut pudding, which was super enjoyable. Chocolate flavor felt luxurious, and it didn't feel like I was eating a froyo but more like a cold pudding. Interior has a decent amount of seating and is clean/hip/minimalistic.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Not ice cream, but probiotic-rich yogurt made from high quality, organic ingredients and no artificial sweeteners. Thrilling. A ton of toppings that can only spell diabetes for future generations? Even more thrilling! I sense that the toppings are the main focus here since all but 8 yogurt flavors are offered while more than 20 different toppings are listed! Most people get a bowl and fill it with as many toppings as they can (for $0.85 each), but no thanks... After trying a couple of flavors, I wanted to stick with good ole' *Madagascar Vanilla* which, as the worker informed me, they put more than the usual amount of vanilla bean than most recipes. It was rather fresh, packed with that bean flavor, but still rather light and almost whipped. Their yogurt really is something quite unique. I want to say I ordered a small ($3.95) and in a waffle cone (+$1.25). It should be noted that you can still add toppings even if you get a cone. I did coat mine in a *Chocolate Magic Shell*. It did make eating my cone of yogurt more enjoyable and added enough depth without making my little snack so completely overwhelming. The waffle cone wasn't anything special though and was rather generic. Either way, an interesting spot and a change of scenery from the normal ice cream offerings in Portland.

Sean S.

Yelp
One of our favorites in town! Always great dairy and non-dairy options, always nice, fast service, and great toppings like Tom Bumble Crumble and a variety of magic shell flavors. Also, the dog always gets a treat too!
google avatar

Alan R.

Yelp
i'm not sure what the hype is. i and my friends were disappointed and underwhelmed. though the message of the product is grand. the product itself is not

Cannibal C.

Yelp
I rent an office in Lloyd and have been waiting for weather and the general vibe to get right before walking over to this location. I'm glad I did. They're still there and it's still Eb & Bean and if you're nearby and trying to beat the heat, I'm not sure how you can do much better. If you're the dairy free type and it's E&B vs Salt and Straw, I think both are great options and Eb is better by a nose. Also, every time I go into one of these locations the servers are helpful and fun. Either they hire the right folks or train em up. Customer service is a bonus here.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
When my husband and I were in Portland we came to Eb & Bean three days in a row because I have not been able to have a hot fudge sundae with cookie dough in years because I can't have gluten or dairy and so obviously I had to indulge. I want to go back to Portland already because I can't stop thinking about this Sundae
google avatar

Mikhail H.

Yelp
I love all three locations of this deliciousness! I love the fact that I can bring my gluten free and vegan buddies here also...whatever you got going on - they got you! I always make it a point to try out a few flavors also even if I know what I am going to get. This time I got their Madagascar Vanilla (which is always a favorite) and their chocolate coconut - which was pretty perfect with that touch o'coconut. It was so light and chocolate but not too rich plus dairy free! I topped with some simple crushed marionberries. AMAZING! And I brought a new victim who is a firm addict... she started out doing the vegan shuffle like, well...I usually don't really care for the offerings at these places for the dairy free stuff... And then she tasted and would not stop the rest of the evening LOL....yep...delicious... And they have a punch card so you buy and then you get free stuff...

Dee M.

Yelp
Was looking forward to trying this place. Had a sign up saying they'd be back at a certain time, waited, no one came. Not open during posted business hours. Disappointed.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
This is hands down the BEST dairy-free soft serve I've ever had in my life. The cafe latte and the pistachio chocolate flavors were amazing together. I got the vegan waffle cone and was able to split between the two flavors for the price of one large serving. Portions are generous and I was in heaven. The girl helping us was a sweetie and let us taste as many flavors as we wanted. Her smile and great attitude made our last day in Portland awesome! They share the restrooms with Blossoming Lotus and have lots of cute merchandise for sale.
google avatar

Jenny X.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night with no line! A very hipster looking minimalistic frozen yogurt shop with no frills! I got 3 sample flavors and settled on a rotating flavor of macadamia but. The overall yogurt wasn't super stellar but it hit the spot and the craving I had for something chilly and sweet. There's also ample seating and outlets inside so you'll be able to charge up!
google avatar

Belen O.

Yelp
Loved my visit here summer of 2019. Cute little shop in a cool section of the city. Great selection of quality ice cream and toppings. Not your traditional flavors. Would go again!

Yelp
While visiting Portland we stopped by Eb & Bean because of the good reviews! I'm so happy we did. The workers were super friendly even when it got super crowded (the line was out the door) !!! They give samples which is amazing because they have very unique flavors here. I got a two scoop of Madagascar Vanilla & Brown Sugar Sesame. I topped my ice cream with nuts & their Cold Brew Bourbon sauce. Sooo good!!! If you're looking for unique flavors definitely make it a point to try this place out.
