"This coffeehouse doesn’t just serve up fair-trade coffee, it also donates all profits to community outreach programs. The Union Station-adjacent shop was started by the National Community Church almost two decades ago, replacing a historic diner that had fallen into disrepair after closing in 1977. Now, caffeine lovers can get a taste of the “coffee for a cause” in delicious seasonal lattes (the year-round honey lavender is a local favorite), grab freshly made pastries, and catch up with friends or work remotely from anywhere in the huge two-level building and patio." - Tierney Plumb

Overall a decent experience, besides one major problem. Let's start with how the coffee was delicious and the service was quick. The workers were kind, and did their best with the influx of customers. The environment was lovely as well. THOUGH display baked goods were cross contaminated by nuts. They were being served to customers WITHOUT being informed! Please consider a level of mindfulness in regards to those with allergies. That could cause tons of potential harm. Also pay your employees more.

The fam and I stopped by here after a trip the Postal Museum (review to come on that for those of you who follow...aka my wife) and were really impressed. Coffee shops are a dime a dozen in the city, but good coffee shops can be pretty hard to come by. Ebenezers was a breath of fresh air both metaphorically in the sense that it's a beautiful shop and had a really refreshing, open atmosphere, and literally because they pump the AC inside and it felt great coming in from the muggy outdoors. The coffeehouse itself it's surprisingly spacious. On the main level there's a good amount of both indoor and outdoor seating. When we came (early afternoon) we were able to walk right up to the counter to order and had no trouble finding a spot to sit. They also have a basement seating area that had a lot of seating, but it looks like they open and close that for private events, so not sure frequently it's available. Nevertheless, it was open when we were there. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They took our orders quickly and we were able to just sit down and wait...and wait...and wait some more. I think there was some issue with the espresso machine because the barista kept pulling shots and then smelling the coffee that came out. After doing this a couple of times he called over another employee and did the same thing with him. After a brief consultation they didn't do anything to the machine, pulled the shots for me and my wife and handed them to us. I'm not really sure what that consultation was, but I've got to say, that little demonstration didn't give me a lot of comfort about what we would be drinking. Nevertheless, putting that behind me, we grabbed our drinks, went outside and started sipping. Honestly, they were both great. I ordered a latte and it was wonderful, my wife ordered a lavender iced latte which was also quite nice. Maybe the barista pulling shots was just THAT exacting, who can say for sure? All in all, this is a great spot to stop off. It's really close to Union Station, easy to walk to and a nice place to sit down and do some work. I'll be coming back and hoping the espresso machine is cleaned by then.

Google
It is a decent spot, but I'd recommend going for the coffee rather than the food. I ordered a turkey and sausage breakfast sandwich, but unfortunately, the turkey was still frozen. When I asked for a replacement, they refused, stating they couldn't take warm it up or give me a new one. After I insisted the turkey was cold, they did end up making a new one. Overall I’ll go for the coffee not the food.

Google
Pistachio honey kouign amann was tasty, as well as the blueberry mint latte. The cold brew was a bit on the acidic side. There’s a nice downstairs area that’s good to work at or sit down to relax.

Google
A delightful coffee shop that provides great service, cool atmosphere, and coffee with a cause. They have such an amazing story of turning an abandoned building (some say an old crack house) into such a gem.

Google
It's good coffee at fair price. I agree with Google, the most solid 4.5/5 I've been to.

Google
We first heard about Ebenezers from the pastors interview on TBN several months back. While in DC we walked every morning 30+ min to drink coffee there. What a wonderful business that turns no one away. I must emit that the cinnamon rolls were a major motivation to return after the 1st morning…coffee, fantastic!! Just enrolled in monthly give a cup

My first time in Washington D.C., I got off at Union Station. It took me about 5 minutes to walk to the store. The first time I saw the store I was very impressed. The atmosphere inside the shop is very good. My boyfriend ordered an Americano. I ordered a latte and it was delicious.

Yelp
omg, this has been the best coffee I have gotten in DC so far :) Was on our way to drop off family at the Station and saw that this coffee shop was nearby. The cafe was cute and accompanied with social atmosphere and ppl working, studying, and chatting. The cafe was clean and offered limited food items, baked goods, and even chips! We got the iced vanilla latte w oat and ohmy it was delicious. Not only do they use crushed ice but the coffee was excellent and the it was the perfect ratio of coffee to milk and vanilla! Although quite pricey for the amount you get, it was def worth getting. This is a solid 4.7!

Yelp
The staff seemed more annoyed that I interrupted their conversation. From attitude to body language, it was one of the less pleasant interactions I've had. Otherwise they're pretty quiet. You can get a better cup of coffee and service ANYWHERE in DC. Honestly this place deserves 0 stars.

Abby C.

Yelp
Staff was super super friendly! Interior is nice but small and they have plenty of lovely outdoor seating where you can people watch. I had the lavender latte which was DELICIOUS! They have a variety of milks and the good ice which gets points from me. Clean bathrooms and there is a free water dispenser. Would definitely return!

Linnea E.

Yelp
Chill coffee shop with great chai, what more do you need? I was early for a meeting and stopped in for 30 minutes just to hang out - hopefully find myself back in the area again soon!

Parisa A.

Yelp
I ordered a seasonal coffee drink and their honey lavender latte, both of which were excellent! The blueberry mint coffee was a bit on the bitter side, and I was hoping for a stronger blueberry flavor. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the honey lavender latte!

Yelp
I stopped by for a quick breakfast, but I can see this place as a nice study spot if you can manage to find a seat. It's very busy and the seats were all occupied; there was a line both when I came in and when I left. I ordered the rosemary lavender lemonade, but I wouldn't order it again because the lemonade was so overpowering that I couldn't taste any of the rosemary or lavender. It was also very sweet, so I waited for my ice to melt before finishing it. I liked the flavor of the mushroom goat cheese turnover that I ordered; it was very umami. However, its texture wasn't as flaky as I had expected because they reheat food with a microwave instead of a toaster oven.

David H.

Yelp
solid coffee, fine pastries, a nice space inside and tons of seating outside as well. good stop if you're nearby but I have other preferred shops in dc/closer to home

Kristina C.

Yelp
Stopped here when it was raining and needed to get out of the rain. Very cute little shop. The barista was friendly and helpful. Coffee was tasty. I had a blueberry latte which was great. There is not much seating and most was taken up by people working. That is the only drawback.

Gabrielle H.

Yelp
I love NCC. Therefore, u will love and support this coffee shop. I'm sharing this item for improvement - the food quality. I was so excited to order a turkey sausage and egg white sandwich, but it was not fresh. The texture and taste seemed like it was a cooked a week or two ago and simply microwaved before placing into the foil and handed to me. Honestly, even the foil presentation was not very good. It wasn't closed. The foil was a bit open and the sandwich overall was not good. I didn't eat it. Sad face. You get 5 stars anyway bc this is owned by my beloved church, but I need to make sure management knows the feedback about the food. Love ya!

Joseph W.

Yelp
Coffee was great! Loved supporting this ministry and love the story behind how this place is here!

Gary W.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this place. The coffee, the atmosphere, how cool it looks - it's all great. The coffee is among the best I've had, if not the best. I highly recommend it.

Madii L.

Yelp
Nice coffee, nice service, nice atmosphere!! Just visiting DC and this place was definitely worth checking out.

Sevana W.

Yelp
The coffee here is solid and the proximity to Union Station is great, but I would look elsewhere for quality food. The last time I visited, I ordered a turkey pesto sandwich. I received a foil-wrapped bundle that had clearly just been pulled from the refrigerator-- the bread was too hard to chew comfortably. Nobody offered to warm it up when I ordered, but I think that would have made it taste much better.

Carmen R.

Yelp
I was going to leave one star but am giving them 3. We came in, ordered coffee which was quick and good however we also ordered egg bites & muffins (premade, just microwaved). Didn't get our food for 20 minutes and after asking 3 times. By then our coffee was cold and mostly gone so we asked for refills and were told we would have to buy them. It's the least they could have done. In the end the manager brought our food, apologized and brought us new coffee so I give it a 3 just for the aggravation.

Katie W.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with nice indoor and outdoor seating options. I ordered a chai latte which was very tasty and had a nice, rich flavor to it. I also got an almond croissant which was flaky and the almond filling was tasty, but there wasn't a ton of the filling so overall, it was a bit dry. That being said, the barista offered to heat it up when I ordered which I didn't end up doing, but I think it might have been better warmed.

Vanessa B.

Yelp
Ebenezers was a great stop to go to that is near the capitol. It was a walkable distance and pretty crowded. The coffee overall was good, there were a few food options, but the wait left a bit to be desired and there was not a lot of seating.

Maggie M.

Yelp
It's busy because there's not a lot of other options close by, but it's fine. The coffee is so-so. I personally think the famous honey lavender latte is way too sweet, but their seasonal maple cinnamon is ok. There's never enough indoor seating, and it's not a great place to study because most of the tables are in the middle of the room and not private at all, but outside is nice if the weather cooperates.

Maggie H.

Yelp
A small but cute spot for coffee and to work. I ordered the special blueberry latte which was a unique and refreshing.

Chloe S.

Yelp
Ebenezers is great! I've tried the black and white latte and the honey lavender latte, which are both delicious. I also love how much seating they have, with two floors of tables as well as an outdoor patio, and the coffee shop itself is super cute and well decorated. They have pretty good wifi if you want to work remotely as well. The service is good but nothing special. Definitely a great spot to stop if you're in the area.

Julie S.

Yelp
Read about this spot in Mark Batterson's Circle Maker so I was excited to visit. The inside it cute with a few small tables and restrooms available. I ordered a matcha latte and a gluten free honey almond bar and it was so yummy!

Demir A.

Yelp
Very convenient and calm. I took my beverage and read here. I liked it very much. I passed the time quickly.

David M.

Yelp
Ebenezers is a great local coffee shop in DC that is near Union Station. With it being near Union Station and the metropolitan branch trail this place sees plenty of foot traffic. The place was packed on a Saturday morning. There is plenty of seating inside and outside and all the baristas were really nice. The coffee was great and they also have pastries available too. I can't recommend this place enough!

Mia L.

Yelp
Was walking by and decided to stop in and I am so glad I did! They were featuring a seasonal blueberry, mint iced latte, and it was delicious. They make the blueberry syrup in house and it really tastes like fresh blueberries. The staff were super friendly and nice.

Bryant K.

Yelp
Darling with nice outdoor seating and a few outlets inside if you want to plug in for a bit. Tasty coffee and treats. Nice folks.

Christopher L.

Yelp
My favorite coffeeshop in DC! It's really quaint and local and is very involved in the local community. I believe it's a faith based coffeeshop based on their bookshelf where they sell faith based books. They also have their own coffee brands that are named after DC things like the Red Line! I always order an Americano or a Cold Brew! They have a rewards program for a free drink every 10 drinks. There is not a lot of seating, but always a lot of people, so if you plan to work or study here, arrive early to claim your spot! Parking also isn't very good as it's on the corner of a residential neighborhood, but that's why I think of it as my local coffeeshop! Go here. You won't be disappointed.

Mark N.

Yelp
Good coffee and lite breakfast option on the Senate side of Hill. Not far from Union Station if you are coming through there. I'm a Starbucks Stan, but I think Ebenezer's coffee is as tasty. Pastries are supplied by https://www.dcsouk.com/ and are excellent. Inside is a bit small with limited seating and the AC isn't very good. Decent outdoor seating is available. Prices for DC are not bad.

Meg J.

Yelp
Terrible coffee. While the coffee shop is cute. The coffee tasted like water. I ordered a cinnamon latte and it tasted like cinnamon water. It was not worth the $8. Very disappointing.

Carrie G.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday around 10:30-11 and it was pretty busy! Balance of people sitting at tables and people getting it to go. I got a 16oz iced latte and their special was gingerbread. Not jam heavy flavor of gingerbread which was fine, better than a lot. And I think you could get an iced 12oz which normally you can't get. Prices were pretty average spent almost $7 with tip.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
Small space but very quaint and cute. There is some limited outdoor seating. Latte was good, little bit on the pricier side but good! Staff was kind. I really enjoy this location to study, but limited seating makes it difficult.

Carlos H.

Yelp
My first cup of coffee in D.C. turned out to the best one I've enjoyed so far on this trip. Their espresso tonic truly hit the spot. Perfect espresso pour and good sparkling too. I also enjoyed a mocha latte later during my visit that was good and a decent croissant too. The cafe sees plenty of foot traffic and people of all ages. Baristas were respectful and friendly. Bathroom was clean. There's a decent amount of seating inside and some plugs. Recommend it! I will return.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Excellent coffee (house drip + iced vanilla latte) and chill atmosphere. Walkable from Union Station and worth it! We could tell right away that the team of baristas enjoy what they do.

Lizzy S.

Yelp
This cute little corner cafe gets great sun and is a lovely place to work for a few hours, in or outside. Their coffee blend is great, lattes could use a bit of a stronger espresso blend but overall, really excellent spot with great customer service and work vibes.

Alberto M.

Yelp
Tl;dr the drinks and service are good. Upstairs has limited seating but lots more downstairs. Come charged bc you might not get a seat with an outlet (only three seats downstairs with outlets). Wifi is hit or miss. But, it's coffee with a cause! I've been coming to Ebenezers for a little over a year now as my partner has always lived right down the street. It's a great community coffee shop with a particular emphasis on community programs. It's honestly not super clear to me what role they serve but just from my experience, they seem to have a special heart for the homeless living near union station, so for that alone, they get bonus points from me. My only real complaints are the hours aren't long enough for me as someone who often works late and that their wifi is not always the most reliable, but usually is! Also, downstairs could really use more outlets. Give them a try :)

Emili S.

Yelp
I went here around 11AM on a Monday and it was fairly empty and quiet, perfect for a meeting with a colleague. I got the blueberry mint iced latte which was good, very subtle blueberry and mint flavor with a robust coffee taste. It could have been a teensy bit stronger flavor to actually feel like the coffee was special. The three stars are really for the cookie. I was so excited for the cherry matcha cookie and it was the hardest thing on earth. Like, could have broken a tooth. I usually never get pastries at cafes and this just made me so sad. If you're gonna serve baked goods, pls make them at least somewhat fresh. Disappointing :(

Jivak S.

Yelp
Went to Ebenezers Coffeehouse today (Sunday, 06/13/21), bright and early in the morning! The seating was plentiful and covid precautions were in place! We got the cold brew w/cinnamon syrup, honey lavender oat milk latte, sour cherry lemon scone, and pistachio Kouign-Amann. Everything was great, especially the pastries! They reheated the pastries which also added to the quality taste. The aesthetic of the place was also nice and a change from the other coffee shops around DC.

Phil T.

Yelp
The reputation of this neighborhood coffee haunt precedes itself, so, I walked over to see if the hype lived up to reality. The queue to hold a cup was incredibly long and, it seemed, I am to wait, though waiting so be hell. After my spell in caffeine-free limbo, I finally received my cup and the wait was warranted. I've often pondered the multitude of variables that go into a stunningly delicious cup o Joe... the beans, of course, and how coarse, plus the source! The water, distilled by a trainspotter, before it's imprimatur. And not to forget the barista's skill, which cannot be run of the mill, especially on Capitol Hill.

Bri H.

Yelp
My friend took me here when I visited Dc a while ago. Ebenezers is a cozy coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating options. Note that it does get busy so if you want to sit and work plan to get here early or keep your eyes peeled for a seat! My coffee was good, nothing too special but my croissant was great and the staff was very attentive and friendly.

Daniela P.

Yelp
Honey Lavender Latte absolute best I have ever had! Service and atmosphere was excellent!

Mayada Z.

Yelp
Very good coffee. Best lavender latte :) Thanks for mad my good mood for today guys. Highly recommended

Eva J.

Yelp
Known for its seats and coffee. No real food is here. The honey lavender latte was good. Very efficient and friendly service.

Teodora L.

Yelp
I recently revisited Ebenezers and couldn't have been happier with my experience this time around. Bill, the manager, has been incredibly kind and really makes sure that his customers have an excellent experience. The first time I visited Ebenezers, it was later in the day, and all of their pastries had been sold out -- pastries I didn't know existed because I arrived too late. This weekend I stopped by again, earlier in the day, and was delighted to see a range of sweet and savory treats that are all from their local partners at Souk. I ordered the ham and cheese croissant and the almond bar, both of which the barista warmed up for us. I am a huge sucker for a ham and cheese croissant, and it's always great to see how to set them apart. This croissant had the perfect amount of dijon mustard in it which was surprisingly delicious. The almond bar was the perfect amount of sweetness, and very filling. We also decided to try new drinks this time around, and I think I found my new go-to! After hearing nothing but good things about the honey lavender latte, we ordered one. I'm always iffy about floral essences in any food or beverage for the fear of them tasting like hand soap, but this latte was perfectly balanced. I also had the caramel whip latte with oatmilk. The caramel was rich and had depth to it like it was browned in a saucepan before being poured into my cup -- it wasn't like a sugary caramel syrup that you'd find at Starbucks. I went downstairs this time to do some reading and writing, and was pleasantly surprised at all the seating they had to offer down there. It was nice and homey, but also modern, and not like a dark basement. All in all, Ebenezers is a great place for coffee and treats, and if you're anything like me and love to eat while you enjoy a beverage, make sure you come in the morning to make sure you can get some pastries you won't want to miss! Wish we lived a bit closer so we could stop by more often!

Yuri C.

Yelp
A coffee house with a mission and a cause! I love nothing more than a good story, and this coffeehouse has it all. The coffee house is under National Community Church, and all proceeds go towards local and international mission funds. They have fairtrade coffee products and a cute interior layout. If I lived closer to DC, I would be a regular here.

Ailun H.

Yelp
Couldn't choose between an oat milk latte and drip coffee, so why not get both to treat myself on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon? Overall, both drinks were pretty average. The oat milk latte just tasted like a very mild coffee flavored oat milk - the espresso flavor did not shine through in this drink at all. On top of that, it was almost $6 (after tax) for a 12 oz. drink, but that's DC pricing for you. The drip was a pretty fruity roast called "Codech". This is apparently one of their bestsellers, but I didn't think it was anything too special in terms of taste. I wish they offered a stronger black coffee drink (besides an espresso shot) than drip, though. I definitely preferred the drip over the oat milk latte, but then again, I'm more of a black coffee kind of person. Still, give this place a try if you're interested in trying their signature latte drinks! Their honey lavender latte seems to be pretty popular and they had other unique lattes, too! The cafe was warm and homey, with lots of space between tables.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool! It's right by Union Station so that is convenient for commuters. It has a historical presence in the community and I enjoyed seeing the art and history in the café as I waited for my latte! My butter croissant was sent from above! Wow, it was so extremely flakey and buttery. It literally but "other people's" butter croissants to shame *side eye.* The staff was friendly and patient and my latte was nice!

Camille S.

Yelp
What a cool piece of history still operating but now as a coffee shop. Great service, great coffee and nice indoor and outdoor environments. I enjoyed the book options as well.

Yagillan Y.

Yelp
Great food! Delicious mushroom goat cheese pastry and Chai tea. Staff is friendly, helpful and courteous. Ambiance is clean and cozy.

John F.

Yelp
I love this coffeehouse in DC whenever I am traveling there on business, and I frequently set up meetings with people there. But it's a great enough place that I would come here on a vacation, too. The coffee is really good, the service is decent, and I enjoy the historic building. Not much seating upstairs, where I prefer to sit for the ambience, but it is louder up there anyway, so I usually opt for the basement, which is quieter with more seating, when the weather is too uncomfortable to take advantage of the patio seating outside. On my most recent visit, I was in the holiday spirit and tried a hot peppermint mocha. It was delicious. Grabbed a cold brew on my way out the door. :-)

Karissa M.

Yelp
Excellent coffeehouse. I've had the honey lavender latte twice now and it's amazing. Probably the best lavender latte I've ever had. The shop is cute and coffee with a few tables and chair to hang out or work. They do close a bit early so be alert of the hours. The mugs they sell are also very cute. I'm sure I'll be back very soon. I highly recommend stopping by to chill with a great cup of coffee.

Alec B.

Yelp
Coffee is very good, better than the average place in DC. Staff is very curt. I went into the basement seating area to get out of the bustle upstairs. Unfortunately, several unhoused people were hanging out in the basement talking loudly and saying weird things. No seating upstairs so I was stuck down there. Basement was dimly lit with flickering lights, you almost can't see. Just a bad time if you're trying to get any work done.
