Patti Smith Shares Obsession with Quirky Restaurant in Japantown SF | Eater SF

"Perched on the bridge between Japan Center’s East and West Malls, I found an eccentric, family-run restaurant that's been operating since 1992 and is known as much for its collection of anime films and TV shows as for its menu of fusion foods like Japanese spaghetti and okonomiyaki pizza. Patti Smith has dined there several times and wrote, “I just love this place,” noting its twenty-three kinds of Japanese pasta and her favorites: flying fish roe spaghetti, watching continuous old episodes of Dragon Ball Z, and taking sips of Lenny’s wasabi beer. In what felt like mutual admiration, the chef even took a photo with her." - Caleb Pershan

Ebisu Bridge 戎橋(えびすばし) is a great spot to enjoy the lively atmosphere of Dotonbori. Standing on the bridge gives a nice view of the canal, especially in the evening when the neon signs reflect beautifully on the water. It’s a fun place to take photos and watch the boats passing by. There are also many street food stalls and shops nearby, so you can easily grab a snack while enjoying the scenery. The combination of the colorful lights, the sound of the city, and a little street food makes the experience enjoyable and very “Osaka” in style. Overall, Ebisu Bridge is a simple but great place to relax for a moment, enjoy the canal view, and feel the energetic side of Osaka. 🌃✨

Ebisu Bridge is one of Osaka’s most iconic and lively spots, offering a perfect view of the vibrant Dotonbori area. The moment you step onto the bridge, you’re surrounded by bright neon signs, energetic crowds, and the famous Glico running man — a scene that truly captures the heart of Osaka. It’s a great place for photos, people-watching, and soaking in the atmosphere of the city. Day or night, the bridge has its own charm, but the nighttime lights make it especially stunning. The area is clean, easy to explore, and always full of excitement.

Worth going here just purely for photos and seeing the classic sign. However expect a lot of pedestrians so may be difficult to get the best picture! I sat in a bar further down to get some instead with a drink

I got you gulico running man. There are so many people stay in here and take a picture with gulico all day. This is a shopping heaven. Also, there are many local food shop near by the river side. Love this city and Highly recommend to visit.

The whole area gets packed at peak hours as it leads to the Glico Man, the Osaka landmark where people get their photos taken. So expect it to be crowded but for sure there’s cheap and pricey items to shop for that you’ll enjoy!

Great spot for a photo opportunity and to just take in the sights, smells and sounds. Good atmosphere. Not too busy on a Sunday evening.

It was a beautiful and pleasant end to our Kyoto visit. The sakuras, the serene atmosphere, and the sight of petals floating on the water created a scene straight out of a painting. The soft pink layer covering the water’s surface looked like a Persian silk carpet — delicate and breathtaking. The area was full of life, with plenty of restaurants around to enjoy. Truly a memorable experience.
