"Located in Medford Square, Ebisuya is the go-to spot for all sorts of Japanese ingredients, not to mention sushi and ramen made onsite. If you’re lucky, you’ll show up when there’s fresh bread available, too. Look for anything labeled Kevin’s Bread, which is made in-house — you might find soft rounds of tofu bread, mochi-stuffed matcha anpan (Japanese sweet rolls), fluffy milk bread loaves with sweet milk cream filling, and lots more. Keep an eye on Ebisuya’s special bread Instagram account for pertinent updates." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
This store was kind of a disappointment! The tiny Japanese grocery store near where we lived in Greenwich CT was one fourth the size and had much better selections. This store was also pricy and while it seemed they have authentic Japanese goods, they're missing key staples like shoku pan milk bread.

Google
Sushi making class with Tucker was excellent. He was very knowledgeable in both traditional Japanese techniques as well as how they can be adapted to home cooking. Would love to learn more from him in the future.

All the Christmas cakes were delicious! I really miss the Japanese style cakes/desserts. Each cake has the right amount of portions and were just so perfect! Thank you so much for this special day :)

I always look for affordable, authentic Japanese goods and foods. This location is the best I've found in the Greater Boston areas. I plan to keep visiting from now on. The only ding to the stars comes from how small a location this wonderful store resides within.

Google
Great local Japanese market with a good selection of fresh produce, frozen items and prepared foods as well as random stationary and utensils. I stopped by for the 'summer festival' event on 8/13/23 and picked up the freshly made okonomiyaki and takoyaki ($6 each) - tastes just like what you'd get at a stall in Osaka, though I did have to spend 40 minutes in line for that.

Google
best japanese market in the boston area, hands down. if you're into japan and you just so happen to be in the area, or you're going to an anime convention in the area, make visiting this store your top priority. i highly recommend that you try the sushi as well - shoutout to my homeboy tucker, best sushi chef in town fr.

Google
I have been literally looking everywhere for a legit Japanese market like the ones I used to frequent to for years in Japan as a little one. I'm not talking H Mart or other Asian grocers with "all-things Asian". Not that I have anything against them, and I definitely frequent them for most of my Asian needs! But I was looking for a place with anything and all Japanese, and I happened to find it right next to our hotel in Medford of all places. They have full stock on just about anything you would find in a supermarket in Japan, from frozen goods and fresh seafoods to kitchenwares and school supplies. They even have a small restaurant with freshly made bento and made-to-order sushi, AND a fully functioning automatic Toto toilet/bidet in their restroom! For a while now I've been craving arabiki (Japanese sausage) and ever since I left Japan I've only had it once more at Japadog in NYC before they closed. I was nearly brought to tears of joy when I saw that they carried the sausages here, and instantly bought several packs to take home. Among other unique offerings they also had soy sauce dispensers with all different kinds of soy sauce to self service from, and entire sections of Japanese pastries and snacks. We also ordered some fresh made bento and sushi, and were extremely pleased. The oyakodon was to die for, and it was made with haenuki rice, which brought back some fond memories as a child. The tamago nigiri was amazing as well, not to mention the hamachi, tuna, and octopus nigiri we ordered. The only downside, if being picky, is that they don't have any alcoholic beverages. They do have non-alcoholic beer, but nothing that would make you tipsy. No worries there for us, however. We can find them widely available elsewhere. Parking is on the street, so don't forget to pay the meter, it's only 25 cents for 15mins, or if you're like us, walk from the hotel. We could easy spend a whole day here if we wanted to! I know for a fact that we will be making routine stops here if we are in the Boston area again, it's definitely worth the trip!

Google
From Malden to Cambridge it is definitely most clean place, tasty food and kindness staff. Prices are very reasonable. I got pork catsu, sushi (so fresh fish), and also some fish with rice. I tested almost all places around and it is can be my favorite. For the plate on the photo I paid $10.00

Yelp
Awesome Japanese market with a decent selection and small eatery situated within near the front. The hours of the eatery are a little tough to figure out for me... I think they vary. Also, bento boxes, ramen, and sushi are available sometimes... I still have yet to try them. I ordered some takoyaki once and the process was a bit confusing, about how I get a ticket and pay first, then eat... turns out I did not have to pay first and could have paid after I was finished eating/shopping during checkout. So now I know for next time. Closed on Mondays, so make note of that if you are planning a visit.

Yelp
It is nice to see a Japan market in the area. They don't have parking lot tho, so you will had to use the meter. Walking into the market, I surprise with the wide selection that they carry. It would not as big as the big chain grocery store, but they carry all the basic. I pretty like the beauty/stationary section where they have all the Japan's goodies that I can't find anywhere else, unless online. The staffs are nice too, they willing to help if you have any questions about the products. I took a star off because I don't like the lighting and atmosphere in there. It's quite dim and moist in there. But I still keep going here due to its variety of products and the nice staffs.

Yelp
Ebisuya is an absolute gem and I'm so glad I found this cute little hole-in-the-wall lunch spot and market! The shopping area itself is lovely, with an abundance of Japanese products. It's the perfect place if you're looking for fun new furikake flavors, frozen taiyaki, or natto. We stopped in to pick up some mirin, but when we saw the restaurant we knew we needed to try it! The food is delicious, fresh, and cheap. I tried a bento and my partner tried the rolls -- both were great. The only thing is that the ordering system can be a bit confusing, as you order at the restaurant but pay at the cash register. Definitely worth a visit!

Siamab M.

Yelp
Have been looking for a super market that can let me order and enjoy Japanese food as easily and comfortable as this for years. It's a small supermarket that serves its community. It sells many Japanese products that sometimes hard to find in other Asian supermarket. It has a small kitchen and sushi bar inside it.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
So glad I stumbled into this little secret lunch spot! Inside the market there's a food counter that serves a small menu of bento boxes. I got a box of chicken karage with rice and a roll of sushi. All made to order and super fresh! I can't wait to come by more often and try out their other menu items. The ordering was a bit confusing at first bc there's some back and forth. But I remember correctly, you fill out and order form and then take the ticket to pay at the register, then come back with the paid ticket to pick up your order.

Yelp
Went for a quick stop to get some to-go snacks. It did not disappoint. There were plenty of choices of foods fresh-made onigiri as well as a wide variety of pastries and chips. The do have some household items and essentials sold here as well as grocery items.

Luke S.

Yelp
Sushi take out is horrible. Very low quality. Poorly made. Fish is low quality. Complete disregard for hygiene. The gentleman who makes sushi reuses single use gloves, takes out garbage without changing gloves, etc. They always run out of fish. Don't be surprised if they are out of salmon, tuna, eil, and everything else under the sun. Last time got $90 take out and frankly it was the worst take out sushi I ever had in Boston. Bad fish. Shapeless sushi that were falling apart. Bad tasting. Disgrace for a Japanese market. Owners should be ashamed of themselves!

Al S.

Yelp
After having Boston cream donut at Tim Hortons on Grand Island... Ping!!!!!! Time to go to Boston!!! Of all the places to eat in Boston, I had to try this one. It's a small Japanese store with products that are common usage for a Japanese national - daily necessities. But inside the store is a small kitchen that caters to some good isakaya type of meals. Karage, ramen, bento box, sushi, and more. Be advices, There is a limited number of each meal. Each meal is prepared by a Japanese chef and his protege. The karage (chicken nuggets) was as it should be! Crispy on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. The bed of cabbage salad added a touch of clean your palate for the next bite. The mushy egg (half cooked scrambled eggs) with chicken bits over rice was a match with Karage. Tasty and well worth the wait. Served on a not so fancy containers since the motive is take out. As they say in Japanese gochiso-sama!!!

Yelp
Hate to give a lower rating for a local mart that definitely seems to serve its community, but still, want to share my honest opinion and experience. Weekday visit, around 2pm. It's just so .. drab in here. And I don't know about y'all but I want to see fresh food and items well-stocked when I shop. Things just seemed unorganized and the place, unattended to in many areas. Both the lunchbox kiosk and the sushi bar kiosk were pretty much closed, and while we stood there looking for a menu or to have someone acknowledge us - nothing. I finally asked what I could have and lunchbox guys tell me, oh we don't have anything left - we're closed. And the sushi guy tells me I can have some rolls but there's no other stuff available. I mean, thanks for finally telling me after we stood there clearly looking to order something. Attached a photo of 2 maki rolls we were able to order. Blah. Basic sushi rice, tiny and uneventful. We went out of our way to check this place out but BLAH all around. Nothing of interest to pickup at the grocery section, and nothing worth our time as far as food.

Vicky S.

Yelp
I always LOVE going here, the cost for the sushi is so cheap. Although there isn't much variety , it is still really good quality. There is only one sushi chef so make sure to look at their hours. There is food ready to go on the right side if you want onigiri or sashimi as well. Overall, pretty nice spot to go to.

Ben B.

Yelp
This really should not happen. The best ramen in Boston (metro area) is in a friggin' grocery store. Like the market is fine, it has cool stuff in it, rice balls, pocky, tea, whatever. But you're going there for the ramen, my friend. Here's how you know. When you go to the ramen place, it may be closed. Because sometimes they sell out of ramen. And when they sell out of ramen, they close. But if it's not closed, the guy may ask you "when are you eating it?" Because he wants to make sure you're not going to let it sit around and become sludge. It's fresh and you better eat it fresh. It's pretty simple, just noodles, pork and seaweed. Some other condiments, I don't know, I'm not Japanese. But it's just thoroughly good. The broth is thick and flavorful, the noodles are fresh and tender, the pork is nicely seasoned and not too fatty. It just feels...right. The sushi is also pretty good and cheap for its quantity. The place generally is just nice. But honestly, I'd come just for the ramen.

Nancy H.

Yelp
Their rolls are pretty decent! For the price and quality, it may be a little rice heavy but the fish is fresh. Their online menu is straightforward with nigiris typically $1.50+ and the simplest fish rolls $3+. I recommend the unagi/eel if you like eel because it's good quality and boneless. The store is small but well stocked with produce, meats, snacks, and home goods. Parking is plentiful during the pandemic and takeout is fast and easy. Appreciate they provide hand sanitizer at the checkout area.

Yoko Y.

Yelp
Authentic selection of Japanese grocery, vegetables, freshly made sushi, rice balls, home made ramen noodles. From comfort foods to authentic sushi, you can't go wrong. They also have a few seatings to sit down and eat your nosh.

Only The Truth W.

Yelp
I reeeally appreciate having a true Japanese market in North Boston and they carry many hard to find products... so why only 2 Stars?? ...because I HATE IT when someone is cheap with me!! Like MANY of the other comments... the rice:filling ratio is wrong in the Onigiri!! Charge me more if you have to but you should know better. I love Onigiri & have eaten hundreds++ of them over the years... and the ratio ISN'T 99% rice/1% filling. Also... if we're going to get technical, the filling should be in the MIDDLE. Fix it please and i'll change my rating.

Peter S.

Yelp
Great produce, miso, and tofu. Plus school supplies.

Jessica W.

Yelp
I mostly come here for the fresh sushi that's made on the spot for you! I'm also a fan of the onigiri that's right by where the sushi is made too. I typically do browse around the store for snacks when I wait for my sushi. There is a good variety of items as well as fresh produce to shop from.

Aron C.

Yelp
I have been living in Medford for over 2 years. I have driven by this place numerous times. I finally got the chance to stop by last week. OMG.. What an amazing little authentic Japanese grocery store where you can also order freshly made sushi and ramen. I ordered a couple of tuna rolls ($4 each..really?? wow) and octopus nigiri. Yummm.. I am loving this place so much. The rolls were absolutely delicious and fresh. Since last week, I have already eaten here twice and shopped there twice. The place is clean and the staff is polite. What more can one asks for. Love it.

Taya A.

Yelp
I came primarily for the sushi but did a little bit of shopping too. Their prices are a little high but they have a great selection of Asian specialty items and frozen foods. I got some candies, some frozen desserts and delicious canned coffees. I didn't have as good of an experience with the sushi. The person working at the counter was unbelievably rude and made me not want to ever come back. I ordered a tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll. It came to $8.50 for both rolls which I thought was a very fair price. The tuna roll was excellent, but the salmon roll tasted unpleasantly fishy and ended up giving me a stomach ache. I'm glad I finally got to try Ebisuya but I don't think I'll be returning.

Anna F.

Yelp
This is a great small market. Every time I go, I feel like I discover something new. Before, I enjoyed getting these salmon stuffed rice balls as a snack from the prepared food section. This time, I grabbed some of their frozen homemade noodles from the prepared section- which came with a sauce for sautéing them in. I also found microwaveable sushi rice and sweet tofu wrappers- which I used to make a quick inari. Also got tasty seaweed for snacking on. & I'm psyched to try the frozen vegetable dumplings and frozen browned rice balls later.

Hubert H.

Yelp
Contains a wide variety of packaged and fresh Japanese goods here. A good place to get varieties of soy sauce, also varieties of furikake. Multiple types of rice vinegars available as well. Prices might be a tad on the higher side, but ultimately worth it for the variety that the store provides.

Sakurako K.

Yelp
This review is mainly about the actual store itself-- I did not come here for the food (although I did buy two onigiris). Store Review: First off, the best thing that this market has going for it is the fact that it's the only Japanese market around this area. Literally because of this reason, I decided to come here (instead of H Mart, or going all the way to Brookline for Maruichi) instead of trekking out further in hopes that it has what I wanted-- which it did, but at a steeper price. You are very much paying for the convenience cost-- the bag of rice I purchase was easily $6-7 more than it was at H Mart, and almost all other products (such as Java curry) were at least a $1+ more than in other stores. Perhaps it's difficult to get products out here, but the pricing inside Ebisuya started to feel a bit like boutique artisanal food shop. I ended up spending almost $70 on just one basket full of products (and a bag of rice). Even their selection of Japanese wares such as rice bowls, chopstick holders etc. were easily $2+ more. The fresh produce was not looking good the day I came in, maybe it was before restocking day. It was also very pricey, and as mentioned, many of it did not look fresh and was on it's way out. They have a small selection of "Kevin's Bread" which was a nice addition to the store. I was able to purchase everything I needed for my week, but I will only be coming back here for groceries only if I'm in a pinch need to save time! Onigiri Review: I so wanted this place to become my casual Japanese food place. Based on the onigiri, it's solidly okay. Rice was under seasoned, but I did appreciate the generation portion of spicy cod roe on mine. Nothing to go out of your way for. Homemade one is still better.

Sally B.

Yelp
A great little escape in the middle of Medford. I usually come here looking for one or two things (a fresh soy sauce or a richer sesame oil) and end up wandering the aisles and dreaming of new dishes to make. They have a nice homeware and beauty collection as well. My latest foray has been into their fresh sushi, which is top notch. As someone who stays away from raw fish (just not my cup of tea), I really appreciate when someone can pay equal attention to the veggie side of the equation as they do, especially with their inari and egg sushi. Highly recommend, especially for the price!

Dan M.

Yelp
Can't believe I'm just finding this local gem! I was hesitant at first because I'm biased towards 5 star sushi restaurants, but Ebisuya blew away my expectations. The sushi was so fresh and so good! Really authentic preparation and presentation. Their nigiri was excellent, and their spicy tuna sauce was on another level. Plus, you can shop in their mini supermarket while you wait -- an overall really cool taste of Japan in the heart of Medford. Highly recommend!

Emi H.

Yelp
Japan is my favorite country to visit so when I found out there's a Japanese market nearly, I had to go check it out. This place reminds me of the 7/11 in Japan. It sells prepared foods, canned beverages, and assortment of Japanese goodies. It has an area where you can order sushi or other cooked foods. I got some sushi, miso mackerel, katsu sandwich, onigiris, and royal and strawberry milk teas. The milk teas were just as remembered and onigiris were pretty good as well. At this point, I thought I would like this place, but unfortunately the quality of all the other foods fell short. Sushi - decent, but nothing special. The spider maki was made with crab legs sticking out... which didn't make it look appetizing Cooked Mackerel - worst thing I got. The sauce was promising but the fish was beyond overcooked. Highly disappointing Katsu Sandwich - second worse thing I got. Dry pieces of meat with no flavor

Aakanksha S.

Yelp
Small grocery store that leans convenience store. Was able to stock up on a good variety of Japanese snacks and cosmetics. I wanted to grab a full lunch as well, but they are no longer doing the Sunday ramen bowls. I was told that they are looking into re-introducing the ramen in the future. Opted instead for some assorted nigiri, Ramune, and onigiri, devoured at the benches across the street. Not ramen, but a great quick lunch :)

Sarah C.

Yelp
We are regulars at Ebisuya since we don't need to scan the ebisuya member card. At check out they automatically punch in the number for us :) we love their sushi selections - always tasty and fresh. Today we found out that they sell ramen kit from Tsurumen!!! Hand sanitizer and alcohol available at entrance.

B T.

Yelp
This is a wonderful Japanese market! My mother is Japanese and though we are from Portland, ME...we are happy to make the drive to stock up on goodies. We did so today exclusively to come here. Portland has a few options for Asian groceries, but most are Vietnamese or Korean owned and operated. Thus, there are many Japanese comfort items that we can't get as easily. I love that this market has all of my favorite things (miso, natto, frozen ramen, fresh produce, mentaiko, an assortment of pickles...and beyond) but also really wonderful customer service. When we were checking out, our frozen goods were even packed with ice...AND the gentleman at the cash register insisted on carrying out our bags to the car. It makes me miss being in Japan when workers are so kind and considerate; this customer service is above and beyond the American standard . *And I know my mom felt right at home being able to speak Japanese with employees (though they were very respectful and kind to speak in English to me...since I cant speak Japanese). Other perks? There is hot food available, also a loyalty card. I also really love that there are frozen croquettes here, from Hokkaido! As mom says, "Hokkaido potatoes are the best!." We will most certainly return!

Jiyea C.

Yelp
I am a big fan of this little Japanese market in Medford Square. The recently expanded kitchen/dining area is my favorite, and I was finally able to come since the renovation. They are closed Mondays and Thursdays, but I think on the other days they serve food at from around 11:30am to 3pm. You have to pay for the food at the cashier (where you would purchase other items at the grocery store) but you give the people behind the kitchen counter the order. The food is no frills and delicious. I wouldn't say the prices are cheap because the portions are not large, but honestly I prefer that so I don't have leftovers that are only half as good the next day. The ramen comes in "half sizes" for $5 each, so you can get different broths for a full meal. With respect to the grocery store part of the store, I wouldn't come here for produce, but Ebisuya carries a lot of Japanese items that I don't know where else to find in the Boston area. I mean, what other grocery store around has an entire fridge full of different types of miso? Or an entire freezer of house-made ramen?

Dawnah C.

Yelp
The best Japanese supermarket in the greater Boston area. Hands down. Their sushi bar is phenomenal and perfectly priced. No frill nothing fancy. The super market side is so enjoyable that you just want to buy everything and the it home. I have yet tried their Ramen. One day I will come for Ramen and update review.

DJ N.

Yelp
A good local Japanese market in Medford. They carry a lot of popular items that Japanese patrons, and those who are interested in Japanese goods, would appreciate. The prices are a bit high, but you are paying for convenience and availability. The sushi here is good, but I highly recommend against getting any of the sushi rolls. They skimp quite heavily on the fish inside of the rolls. I recommend getting nigiri style only. The prices are good and the fish is fresh. Also, prepare to be greeted by a very rude sushi maker. He is probably one of the worst customer service people I have ever met in my life. I've learned to just ignore him, get my nigiri, and move along. Again, avoid the sushi rolls. You'll be thoroughly disappointed, and it's a waste of your money. I'm glad that this place stopped allowing animals into the grocery store. Keep your pets at home and away from other people's food. There is street parking available, and the city charges $.25 per 15 minutes. City parking is valid until 6 PM. Overall, I give this place 2.5 stars. However, I bumped it up to three as I am trying to support small and local businesses during the pandemic.

Natalie H.

Yelp
This is more of a convenience store that sells packaged foods like snacks and sauces. There were some beauty products and stationary, but we didn't see any produce or perishable foods. There were also some tables and a food counter in the front. We came after it closed, so we didn't get to see what kind of hot foods they sell. The refrigerated food on the side was so cheap and tasty though. In the photo: soba noodles, onigiri, pickled octopus, seaweed salad, more pickles, and drinks. They were all delicious. We'll definitely be back soon!

Manfred S.

Yelp
Greatest Japanese grocery store in Medford. Sunday noon, they sell home made Kyushu style sea salt ramen. Probably the best around Boston. Sushi bar is basic but a great deal. Now I just go down the road to Atlas Liquors and get same Dai Gin Jo cold sake for my happy meal.

P. H.

Yelp
Had takoyaki and Okonomiaki there recently with my son. Barely any tako in the balls. The Okonomiaki was too saucey and there didn't seem to be any cabbage - too much flour it seemed and not enough cabbage. Very disappointing.

Aaron A.

Yelp
Great local Japanese market, with a small "mom and pop" store feel to get all your favorite foods. Everything is incredibly fresh and well stocked, they have a little bit of everything you might be looking for. This is THE PLACE to get Sushi and Ramen in the Medford area, and is worth a drive from wherever you are coming in from. This will be my preferred shopping place for all my Japanese dishes and treats from now own. Great location, too!

Krista R.

Yelp
Cute and smallish shop that sells Japanese noodles, soups, tea, kitchen gadgets, frozen fish, fresh sushi, cold beverages, pastries, and condiments. I was quite pleased that my favorite soy sauce which I usually have to go to H Mart to find was sold here! I'll be back to try the sushi.

Tiffany D.

Yelp
This place is super cute and it sells tons of Japanese snacks and ingredients that can't be found anywhere else (not even HMart!). There is a small eating area where they serve half portions of noodle bowls, bento, as well as onigiri. I will be definitely coming back! Just knocking down a star because things there can be really overpriced.

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Small Japanese market with quality items! I saw a few Japanese families and the workers there are actually Japanese. Lots of snacks, noodles, cooking ingredients, produce, skincare, and bakery items. However, downside is that everything is fairly pricey. I think it may be because they import a lot of their stuff from Japan. They always have sales though on different items Can get fresh sashimi and Onigiris (rice balls). They're really cheap (under $2). I tried the Spicy Tuna Onigiri but they do not use the sushi tuna, they use canned tuna. I thought that was weird...but I guess that was the only way to keep it under $2. They seem to also sell sushi, ramen and other noodles and that's made to order. For parking: there's street parking. There is also a small metered lot in the back

Park G.

Yelp
The market instantly transported me back to Japan! The market itself is not too big but stocked with the food essentials and packaged foods that are imported from Japan. Their Nissin cup noodles are amazing! Both he curry and seafood is so much more than your typical cup noodle and they should, at $2.10 each. You can get a 10% discount if you buy a box of six though! Fresh fish, breads, rice, produce, and household products. There is also a section to order made to order sushi as well! Weekends offer $5 small bowls of ramen, which comes with a slice of pork and green onions. The soup is flavorful and flavored with dashi kombu and pork. The sushi was super fresh and cheap as well at $3 for a salmon roll and $2 max for each nigiri. They also have rice balls (onigiri) at $2 or less. Definitely a nifty store that caters for the Japanese population in the boston area but a plus for others that want their Japanese fix.

Arel C.

Yelp
They have a nice selection of sushi-grade fish. Come early for the best selection. I also like their homemade noodles and buns in the freezer section. And they have good tofu. Good store; check it out.

Nathan L.

Yelp
Ebisuya is an excellent little store in Medford. It is a small Japanese store that sells sushi, groceries, cosmetics and appliances. All there stuff is from Japan. It appears that they primarily serve the local Japanese community along with some other people who are interested in buying their stuff. According to several different blogs by and for Japanese people living in the Boston area, Ebisuya is the only exclusively Japanese grocery store in New England. If you are aware of others, please feel free to leave a comment. Ebisuya exemplifies a Japanese shopping experience, according to my S.O., who is from Japan. Everything is the store is clean and nicely arranged. The staff are extremely polite to every customer. One time I was there shopping on my own with a list of several items which I didn't know what they were or what the English names were. The staff were very nice and helped me find and choose all the things. Ebisuya also has a sushi bar. It is a made-fresh-to-order pay per piece set up. The quality and value are both excellent. On special occasions, we will go there and get a pretty big all sushi dinner for two for about $25-$30. Ebisuya also carries a variety of high quality Japanese groceries, dishes, utensils, cosmetics, and appliances such as Zojirushi rice cooker. They have sell many varieties of japanese rice, Ramen, udon, natto, meats and vegetables. They also sell nice Japanese desserts such as Mochi ice cream mochi with an, and also just plain an. Ebisuya makes several types of Japanese pasta such as ramen and udon in-house. When we moved from the San Francisco Bay area to Boston, my S.O. was concerned about being able to find a good Japanese store for her weekly shopping. The bay area has 10 exclusively Japanese grocery stores while all of New England has only Ebisuya. Fortunately, Ebisuya is very good.

Kaori M.

Yelp
I am from Japan, so I can tell that this is a decent Japanese grocery store. You can get basically every basic stuff with decent Japanese brand. Seafood is especially good.

Andra D.

Yelp
this place has a ton of great products, and the fresh sushi is great and a good price. unfortunately, the prices on the groceries are pretty ridiculous

Yelp
Calpico concentration (try mixing it with Lacroix and you will be in heaven), 吉野家beef don that you can simply just microwave and put on rice, all kinds of snacks, stationary (actually good pens), natto, hot spring powder... you name it, they probably will have it. This is one of my favorite grocery stores, and I just wish I lived closer to it. I often come here if I'm heading for barbecue next door at Sura. But the stuff here just makes me so happy. Not mentioning how the staff here are so polite, too. It's a dangerous place, I'm telling you. Your paychecks will fly faster than a rocket because you will find yourself wanting to buy everything here.

Yelp
Excellent variety of Japanese foods ... from snacks to full course meals and everything in between. Also some great supplies, stationery, and other things from Japan. We wish the restaurant opened a bit earlier but we'll be back to try that too.

Yelp
Excellent fresh sashimi! Excellent fish for grilling, including hamachi kama. It's a small place, but it has everything you need to make authentic Japanese food at home. The market is extremely clean, well-stocked, and organized. Highly recommend checking out if you're in the area.

Yelp
Nice selections in this local supermarket. Checking out the Sushi Stand is a must! Fresh ingredients and great value!

Yelp
This is a really cute market! You can get ramen and sushi for a quick lunch. After lunch you can get some groceries(frozen ramen noodles, different types of Japanese sauces and powders...things you don't see in other markets). It was a fun experience, they also carry dvds and Japanese cosmetics.

Yelp
Love coming to this Japanese market located in Medford! It's the only Japanese-owned and run market I've encountered in Boston. Their groceries are a bit on the pricier side, but I love supporting this business! They sell all of the essential Japanese cooking condiments, snacks, and rice. However, the fresh produce and meat selections are a bit limited. There's a little sushi counter inside that sells very decently priced sushi and it's great quality! A little hidden gem. They also have a pop-up ramen bar that has $5 ramen (miso, shoyu, or yuzu). I tried the yuzu broth and it was light and tasty! This is more of a snack than an actual meal size portion, but if you also order some sushi, it's a delicious combo! Recommend ordering sushi before doing any shopping as it takes a while to prepare. You write your order on the ticket and hand it to the sushi chef. When your sushi is ready, it will appear with a copy of your ticket and you take that to the cashier to pay!

Yelp
This review is for the grocery store side of the business. I'm from an area of California with a lot of large Japanese supermarkets and admittedly this is not really comparable in scale or selection. But given the much smaller Japanese population here, I'm impressed that this authentic store exists. I'm giving it five stars for what it is: a specialty store that has unique items you can't get anywhere else. You probably can't do all of your grocery shopping here, but it complements other stores well--very few of its many items could be found at a regular American supermarket. Maybe about half of them could be found at H-mart, which is the closest alternative, but that still leaves a lot of items that are specific to Japanese cuisine and can only be found here. The store is small, but it has a lot packed into it. For packaged foods and certain specialties, the variety is huge: dozens of kinds of Japanese soy sauce (including bulk soy sauce and some very fancy brands I've never seen anywhere else), a huge variety of miso, shelves and shelves of frozen natto and rice. They also have a great variety of snack foods and beverages. For other departments, the selection is very limited but well-chosen. The vegetables they carry are mostly those that are very specific to Japanese cuisine: e.g., daikon radish, shungiku (chrysanthemum leaves), gobo (burdock). This is the only place in the area that I've ever seen Japanese cucumbers, mitsuba, or myoga. Other small "departments" include: - Baked goods (packaged breads only) - Frozen meat and fish (including berkshire pork and salted fish...not a huge selection but again, well-curated) - Sashimi-grade fish (very small selection) - Japanese kitchenware - Japanese toiletries - Japanese ceramics - Japanese notebooks / office supplies If you're interested in dabbling in Japanese cooking or just like specialty food stores you would probably enjoy this place. If you are from Japan or a Japanese area you have to come here--it's not really like being in Japan, but it's still pretty magical.

Yelp
I absolutely love this little Japanese market! Ever since moving to Boston about three weeks ago, my husband and I have been here about 5, 6 times. From their sushi corner to their general shopping area, everything is perfect. They supply a great variety of groceries, meats, snacks, and drinks, not to mention their miscellaneous things such as kitchenware and beauty products. Did I mention everything is super fresh and the store is very clean?! Their products are also very reasonably priced, in my opinion. The amount of stuff I buy always only amount to about $25, whereas if I were to get the same products from Uwajimaya (big Japanese market in the PNW), it would've at least costed me $50+. Needless to say, I'm going to be very sad once we move out of Medford because Ebisuya is seriously a great little shop.
