Yelp
We were planning a trip to London and searching for a certain quality of hotel, having not totally enjoyed our last visit due to that hotel. As we searched, we discovered Eccleston Square Hotel and liked what we saw in our research. The hotel itself is located about 5-7 minutes away from the Victoria underground and train stations which was very convenient. There is a small lobby and dining room area, some additional seating in the rear, and two elevators up to the rooms (five floors total I believe). We stayed in a City King room, here are my thoughts:
Pros:
-The staff was very attentive and helpful. As Americans, we like ice in our rooms and most European hotels don't make this readily available. The staff here would bring us ice whenever we asked which was very helpful. They also provide tea service 24/7, we asked for this one time and it was very nicely done.
-The rooms were loaded with tech, from automated window blinds, multiple plug options, and other items.
-Each room comes with a mobile phone that we could take out as we traveled the city. It included decent speed data so using apps like Google Maps was convenient. We used our own phones for calls but this was a nice addition to have with us each day.
-The bed was comfortable, and could adjust position and offered vibrations as we discovered.
-The shower was the size of a standard tub area (no tub in our room) and offered three different options (overhead "rain" style), handheld sprayer, and standard wall mount sprayer with some different spray patterns. I only used the wall mounted option but it was more than enough. The water pressure was fantastic which was a great surprise, and it heated up very quickly. It was a great service after a long day of touring the city.
-The wifi was very fast (about 75 mbps on average) and we had no problem streaming Netflix etc.
-The TV had an HDMI port by one of the bed stands which we were able to attach our Amazon Fire Stick. There is also a USB port nearby which I tried to use to power the stick, but it wasn't powerful enough. I was able to get up and running using my standard USB plug I had brought.
-There is a mini fridge in the room that is stocked daily. We didn't use their items but rather filled it with items we had bought at the nearby Sainsbury market.
Cons:
-The rooms are very small. There is no desk area at all, basically the bed fills the room so that's something to get used to. The bathroom area is small also, there is decent space in the mirror cabinet and drawer, but not much counter space at all (like maybe 1 square foot).
-The continental breakfast was ok, it was a rather small selection of items. Those items were good, but I didn't feel the offering matched the price. Worse still, on one day when we had tours planned we got there around 7:30am and it wasn't available (it's supposed to open at 6:30). The staff member who was there said something happened, I guess someone didn't show up. He said he could have something for us in about 30 minutes but we didn't have that much time so we just did without on that day.
-There is a large amount of buttons on the walls and by the bedstands and they aren't labeled. The bellman ran us through the functions but it was fast and honestly we didn't remember it, so it was a matter of having to punch buttons and see what happened. I'm sure they would have come up and explain it again, but I think for a room with that much tech they should have a printed guide that runs through the features and options. We weren't told that the bed is adjustable and has a massage function, we only stumbled across that on our third night there, would have been nice to have known from the start.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would consider staying there again. The few service issues aside, the staff all very much were helpful and committed to us having a good stay.
